How about a thread collecting all the Wii adverts we can find? You got it!

Example A: Found this on Eurogamer today, when clicking on a preview of Rayman.

http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/9629/wiiadsnp7.jpg

Since there will be many ads like this one, hearing where and when it was seen, will be all the more interesting.

Well, I just posted this pic in the "Wii worldwide ardvertising" thread:

Somehow that thread slipped the radar. But this one is nice also. I hope the mods woke up on the right side of bed.

That advert is BIG.

I saw one on gamespot. But what the hell's the use of advertising there when basically everyone who visits that site is a gaming nerd?

I spotted one yesterday in Comet. It might not be advertising, but where the games are stocked, they had a little display up with Wii at the top. I was surprised to see it there, and i even took a picture of it on my phone. I'll try and post it when i get credit.

The day Nintendo of Norway do any advertising.. I'll be surprised. There's stuff in Spiderman, but other than that.. Nothing. I don't think I've ever seen a Nintendo advert outside of gaming magazines and whatnot. Only a select few (pretty much just EA) games are ever advertised here.

Hmm why are they only on game websites? Surely everyone on there will already heard of it?

They should put it on stuff like bebo and myspace. Then it would be seen by MILLIONS of people!

But was it simply the video preview from E3 or whenever? If so, then no, as that advertising was Comets choice...kinda thing..

just got in from work, and I saw the Toys R Us booklet that will go in to this Sundays paper. The Wii had most of a whole page to its self: peace: , less then 25% of the page was for GC, where as the PS3 had to share a page with the 360:heh: , they both had half.

My local Game has had stuff in for ages, they seem to be really pushing the Wii but they are situated inside Debenhams, the one in town just has a video running on the screen.

Haven't really seen much online however, and Nintendo definately need to advertise on sites such as myspace, faceparty etc, along with news outlets and the like.

Unfortunately you are about right with the numbers, however W3C set the standard for coding XHTML and i do not want to lower my skill set and only work to a lower standard. Its just unfortunate that M$ bundle IE with Windows.

I design and develop for standards compliant browsers and fix for IE, but if more people switch then maybe (one day) we will see that number reversed. The revolution must start now :D

There's quite a lot of double page spread adverts in mags such as Games TM and Edge, but all they say is Wii in huge letters, and a date. It's not really helpful to people who don't know what a wii is. Still, it was a games mag, so I doubt there's really anyone who didn't know what a wii was...

Also: I didn't like that advert very much, but I think it'd be quite good for cinemas.

There have bein ads hanging around on gamesindustry.biz for about a month now, but outside of that I thought that the huge 'Wii' with the date in magazines (I saw it in NGamer) was just an introduction courtesy of the staff, because they're huge fans or something like that. Because there ain't even an Nintendo logo on the ad, nopr any trademark or copyrighjt issues, so it's a poor ad this way. We'll jsut see how that works out, but with roughly four weeks to ge (and on in the Americas), it's about time they started the ad-wagon.

Offtopic: IE is a worldwide standard, but it interpretets the HTML wrongly, even if it's writin correctly. And IE has a incredible insecure system were virusses and SPAM just walk through without problem. Luckily, MicroSoft IE 7.0 will be beter for support with HTML and more secure thanks to it's seperation for the normal explorer. Microsoft does listen every once in a while - and most of the while when it's starting to lose market share to firefox and other browsers...

More like they get a bit miffed when some company releases a product which is better than Micro$oft's and that product actually starts to beat Micro$oft's.

You would be surprised how many products come out which are better than M$'s but no one knows about them.

I'm in Art School, and ask anyone what program they are using for their digital imagery, they'll all answer paint. Paint. Paint. Not photoshop. 'Too complex' - but Photoshop is not complex, it's just english (most of the versions) and therefore harder to use (I'm from Belgium). But if you know WHAT you're doing, it should be no problem. They all are, however, talking about 'photoshopping'... But okay, back to topic now would be a good idea.

I think they should do a Zelda advert like this with a massive orchestral score like the one from the original trailer when it was first unveiled.

Actually, now that you mention the original trailer... If it was updated with some differences (link being right handed in it, footage of the Wiimote and Nunchaku being used etc) that actual trailer would work sweet as an advert IMO.

The second UK Wii advert has arrivedhttp://www.cubed3.com/news/6341/1/New_Wii_TV_Advert_Hits_UK_Screens

New Wii TV Advert Hits UK Screens

Quick News: We've just this second seen a new Wii advert. Instead of "What is this?" followed by "This is Wii", the advert asks "What can Wii do?" ending with "Wii can do anything". The 20 second advert features two Wii controllers being used in a number of ways that seem to represent Wii Sports and Orchestra. We caught it on E4+1, but let us when you see it and where! I haven't even seen the first yet! Bit pointless moving on to the second if there are loads of other people in the UK who still haven't seen the first!

I don't like these UK ads (having watched the first on YouTube).
- They aren't shown enough on the main channels.
- If the whole gradual build-up to Wii is to work then alot of people need to be seeing them, otherwise they'll just catch 'advert 3' for example and not get it.
- The voice over is nearly as bad/annoying as the M&S adverts!

Hopefully these build-up ads wont last long and then we'll get a more traditional 30 second advert for the last 2 weeks leading up to launch; showing the Wii, the controller, games and people playing it, like the Wii sports ads!
Hopefully there will be game specific adverts as well!

ITV is actually losing a lot of money at the moment, the advertising market is weak and to stay alive they have to have those stupid quiz shows running all night.
Literally those quiz shows where idiots phone up and give stupid answers are keeping the lights on at ITV.

Perhaps they should have learnt that people want to watch a film at that kind of night.. or at least something vaguely stimulating. Not 'ITV night screen'

Anyway.. advertising on Corrie shouldn't cost much, but I think Nintendo would have more luck hitting the same people on the 10am-6pm Channel 4 slots.

The Zelda advert starts with the Wii logo and the loading thing circling it, and it starts off with the music that plays when you solve a puzzle and a door opens (diddle doo doo dee dee dee dee doo!). Then in both I've seen theres a bit that show the guy using the Wiimote and Nunchuk to fight the Darknut for a while, then it shows the menu screen and TP logo.

Saw a Wii:Sports one, on ITV during 'I'm A Celeb....'.

Thats the way to do it Nintendo!

Theres no doubt in my mind that Nintendo has already out-done their Gamecube advertisment in a matter of days. It's literally everywhere, so everyone is informed and EVERYONE can enjoy the wii together happily!

they would not bother advertising something that they did not have lots of stock for.

Yup that's standard practice, they will happily put out a copy of Zelda for every Wii that is available.
Most publishers will do that actually.

It's stupid not to really, because I'm thinking 80%+ are gonna want Twilight Princess.

Yes, it's weird that you haven't. But then, it depends on which channels you watch, what time you watch tv, etc. If you watch something bizarre like, i dunno, CNN all day long, you probably won't see a Wii ad. :heh:

I've seen at least 3 today, all the Zelda ads.
Plus, this morning on T4, they were giving away a Wii with WiiSports.

I've only seen the Wii remote adverts on TV so far but I watched the Zelda ones on Wii.com.

The one with the horse riding made me laugh though, why the fuck is the bloke in that ad bouncing up and down on his sofa? I'm like, err... you're not really riding a horse mate! :heh:

This over acting of motion is becoming a bit of a bad habit in Wii ads I think, the Call of Duty trailer was the same, when the guy shakes the Wii remote like he's using a real machine gun!

I was in a nightclub (campus) on friday night, kinda drunk but I'm sure that on the many tv screens there Zelda and Wii adverts were playing constantly lol.

Also yeah, I have still yet to see an advert on tv but then saying that I hardly watch tv at all and if I do its usually the disney channel so its not really saying much :P

I've seen one Wii ad so far on tv where they show the remote and add sounds to it and stuff. Today I sent all afternoon/evening sitting close to the tv and watching commercial breaks, and I didn't catch a single ad. =(

Nintendo Netherlands have hired the very same person that does the voice-over on The Tweenies and Teletubbies to do the Wii commercials... A very high cute and charming voice, though I'm not sure this works that well. Makes it seem like a toy all over again :hmm:

Yesterday there was a couple in my store (i work at currys) and they were on about getting their 7 year old kid a PSP.
