From DS-x2.com:

"According to Gpara, Square-Enix has revealed a few details on the status of the Final Fantasy serie.

First of all, Final Fantasy III is still said to be in development for the Nintendo DS and is set for a release in 2006. Even more interesting is the mention that the game will be fully polygon-based, can you say 3D-Final Fantasy?

Furthermore, the recent notes in Famitsu magazine on Final Fantasy IV on the GBA being the first of a series of ports is strenghtened by Gpara. Both Final Fantasy V as Final Fantasy VI are planned for development for the GameBoy Advance as we speak. Square-Enix must really love Nintendo..."

Wow, that was unexpected. Polygon based FF3? I'd rather have 3d characters and 2D backdrops like in ff7, but it's cool anyway. I've spread the word, thanks.

Wow, I hope that is true, 3D people on a 2D backdrop would be nice. If they remake FFIV, V and VI on the GBA I'll really need to get myself a Micro!

Ooh, I hope FFIII has a really fleshed out story and characters. It'd be a shame to have a NES story with pretty visuals and innovative controls. They want to just loosely base it on the original and make it a real classic.

This is good news because it means its not a direct port. Kewl.

If they did a direct port... it would look like this:

Poor SNES engines.

That's Final Fantasy 6, we're talking about the super rare, apparently best FF; Final Fantasy 3 here. (Final Fantasy 3 in Japan)

I can't wait til next year. I think it will be a golden year for gaming. I'm tempted to buy a GBMicro, FFIV, FFV, FFVI and Wario Ware: Twisted.
