I found the UK Software Top 40 Charts on gamefront.de (http://www.gamefront.de) and thought you lot might be interested, so here they are:

Edit: Here are the new charts, check back every week as I will regularly steal them from Gamefront.de (http://www.gamefront.de)

last week (http://img191.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ukcharts0606061ue.jpg)

Brain Training and Animal Crossing are still around in the Top10. They actually climbed up a little from 6 to 4 and 9 to 8 respectively.
Also Nintendogs Dalmation and Friends entered at the 12th spot.
Then there's a long gap and down from 29 to 38 is Super Princess Peach.

nice stuff, i dont think they do UK or Europe hardware charts, i rarely have seen them. anyway no GC games as usual, Last game i remember which hit the charts was RE4 which manages no.3 which was awesome.

I dont think LOZ:TP will have a bigger impact as i and many others hope, its being released quite late in my opinion and will be overshadowed by next gen games and hype.
Also the graphical power of LOZ:TP will no longer be impressive by then, XBOX 360 second generation games will be launching by that time too.

Anyway we gotta wait and see innit......

Bloody Fifa.. advance wars is a suprise considering it's easy to import but there's no Meteos in there.

why on earth would meteos be there? there is no castlevania in there because stupid konami didnt provide anywhere with enough of them.

advance wars would be higher too if they had made more.

Nice to see a UK and Europe software chart list. Good find btw. It's a pity there is no GC games up in the list, but it is good to see Advance Wars going strong

The new UK charts are uploaded.
Only made this useless post, because I'm not sure if the thread is highlighted (=bold, marked as new...) when I edit my first post.

You know, the one currently shown was where Nintendogs was out for only TWO games. And to be that high, is damn impressive! I mean, that's 2 days of Nintendogs vs 7 days for the rest.

I think that the last two years of Nintendo Internet Fanboyism (or "NIF"!) have really turned the company's fortunes around!

Good work, all!

Wow, I wasn't aware that Nintendogs was only out for two days then - in that case Nintendogs is must be doing really well in the next charts...
thanks for the Info.

The newest hardware charts are up now spanning from 10. to 15. October.

Not too bad for Nintendo I guess with all 3 Nintendogs versions in the charts but I had expected that they do better.

Nintendogs obviously isn't so happily recieved in the UK than it was in Japan, since there's only one version in the charts anymore, but therefore Pokémon could stay in fifth place.

I wonder why Simpsons Hit and Run is still in there, that was released over a year (or even more) ago - a price cut?

And could one of the Mods or Admins please make the thread sticky as I will update it regularly and it's quite annoying to always look it up between the old ones.

Hopefully Nintendogs is a slow burner and sales will pick up when the mad xmas rush kicks in.

I was under the impression that Nintendogs was popular with the mainstream press and they where predicting that i will be the must have "toy" of xmas.

The software charts for 1.11 to 5.11. are up.
Nintendogs barely managed to stay in the charts and Pokémon also declined. RE4 is in the charts too but I highly doubt that's due to the GC version.

Won't last long. Never does.

Regarding RE4 on PS2, I don't think it's having quite the impact that it had on GC. If you have a look on Play.com for example, where they update their own chart daily, it's perhaps not selling quite as well as they'd hoped. It's not reached "Temporarily out of stock" status yet either! Of course this will probably change, and it doesn't really matter anyway, but hey ho. :)

But there's not so much to rejoice for Nintendo, nothing except Pokemon is in the charts.
And who keeps buying all these Simpsons Hit & Run copies?

Mario Kart saw a huge decline in the charts from 13 to 22 while Pokémon managed to craw up one position.

And could some mod change the title so that it doesn't say (26.9 - 1.10) anymore?

Mario Kart DS went down a bit again, but more interestingly one version of Nintendogs re-entered, must've been on a few people's Christmas lists.

- PlayStation2: 1,2 Mio. Units
- Xbox 360: 129.000 Units
- Xbox: 265.000 Units
- Nintendo DS: 800.000 Units
- PSP: 795.000 Units
- GBASP: 63.000 Units

- Hardware total: 3,75 Mio. Units (+ 34% more than 2004)

Wow, even though the DS had a 6 month lead I was still expecting the PSP to be outselling it here. And although the DS sold three quarters of this in a week in Japan it still looks good.

If you add all the consoles figures together you get 3.252, about 500,000 different than the total. So the Gizmondo, Gamecube, Micro, PS1 and Gameboy Advance sold 500k? Or the figures aren't accurate. I just wanted to do some maths really. ^.^

My apologies for last weeks absence of charts from gamefront but thanks to OVERLORD we still got some.

This week gamefront released them in time and it's looking quite ok for Nintendo. Nintendogs reentered the charts last week on place 26 this week on 27 and Mario Kart DS declined one spot from 32 to 33.

Nintendogs dropped out of the charts again, while Mario Kart managed to claim the 33rd spot again. However a very pleasant surprise is Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time which managed to enter on spot number 10.

James McGeachie

where do think Zelda Twilight Princess will be in the top 40?

Depends on whether or not it really does have Revolution control. If it does, which seems likely at this point, a lot of people might buy it with a Revolution when it launches, as well as Gamecube owners purchasing it too, hence it could make the top 10, if not number 1. If it's only released as a Gamecube title though with no Revolution exclusive features, I'll be lucky if it makes the top 20 at all. The Gamecube is essentially very dead here now. Wind Waker may have made first, but the Gamecube was a lot more popular back then, as proven by the fact Metroid Prime made first, but Prime 2 only entered at 33.

Anyway I'm surprised to see Mario and Luigi 2 in the top 10. It seems like a title that deserves it, but 2d rpg's aren't exactly games that usually shine in the UK market.

If you want you can see the DS specific charts here. They're especially useful if you want to see just how badly Lunar Genesis bombed, as it was 20th in the DS charts last week and 14th this week, which probably means it's sold less than 1000 copies, if even close to that. Monkey Ball isn't doing especially well either.

09-03-2006, 02:51 PM
It's been this way for the last few years. For the Gamecube, only the big name games have even touched the charts really and for the last couple of years it's always been the bottom end of the charts too. For the DS, more titles have been doing fairly decently, but it's still rare for any except Nintendo first party titles to be in them. For the GBA....well, they really never touch the charts ever, except for Pokemon and stuff like Sonic Advance temporarily.

http://www.charttrack.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&ct=110025

The DS specific charts for this week have the titles mixed around quite a bit with the game that was previous in the charts, Mario and Luigi, dropping down to 4th, which suggests as a whole the DS done fairly weakly this week.

The whole charts can be found here (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/K0nfucius/uk2103.jpg) as always only this time they are very small, photobucket somehow resizes things that aren't even over the limit. I hope this gets solved or I can solve it/find an alternative.

Yeah, there is an alternative and it's slightly annoying you keep ignoring it. All the charts you keep posting are taken directly from www.charttrack.co.uk, which usually updates on Monday as opposed to Tuesday. So the solution is pretty simple, use the site the charts come from in the first place instead of someone else linking to them with an annoying watermark covering them a day later.

Here, have not only this weeks charts

http://www.charttrack.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&ct=110015

but also this week's full price charts ignoring budget titles

http://www.charttrack.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&ct=110016

and the DS specific charts too.

Yeah I know the alternative but I prefere the picture version, because on the first post, there isn't a link but the picture, therefore I'm taking them from gamefront, because I'm too lazy to take the pic myself.
But if you want to post them on Monday, feel free to do so. I won't be annoyed or anything.

So that stupid photobucket still allows pictures up to 512kB (or it says so at least) but resizes things that are about 350kB to under 200kB, so from now on I'll post the charts from charttrack (thanks to James McGeachie).
Ah and sorry for the delay but I was pretty busy lately.

Anyways Nintendogs remained in the charts but declined 7 spots to 38.

Last week was E³ so the board was closed, therefore I'm going to post last weeks charts as well:

Last week (http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/1847/uk09051mn.jpg)'s charts saw Metroid Prime Hunter entering at the sixth spot, one below Animal Crossing AC that dropped from the fourth. Trauma Center went up from 40 to 36.

This week (http://www.charttrack.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&ct=110015) saw Animal Crossing declining to the 7th spot and MP Hunter dropping to 11. But on 18 Pokémon Link enters and Nintendogs re-entered at 40 but Trauma Center dropped out.

Brain Training claims spot number 3, crawling one up from the previous week. Nintendogs Dalmatian get from 12 to number 7 and long time favorite Animal Crossing dropped from 8 to 10.

But there's more to come. Metroid Prime Hunters reentered the charts on spot 16 as well as Mario Kart DS on 27, Tetris on 29, Sonic Rush on 33 and Super Monkey Ball Touch and Roll on 40.

Sorry for updating the charts this week Konfucius.

Take 2’s ‘Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories’ on PS2/PSP takes a 4th week at No1 (-34%), driven in all of those weeks by the launch of the budget-priced PS2 version. 2K Games/Take 2 can celebrate the long-awaited arrival of ‘Prey’ at No2, originally a PC concept from 10 years ago – now out on PC and Xbox 360. ‘Prey’ was produced by 3D Realms (of Duke Nukem fame) and developed by Human Head on PC / Venom Games on 360 and claims No1 on both format charts, although the Xbox 360 version is by far the lead format, accounting for 77% of unit sales.

Nintendo’s DS ‘New Super Mario Bros’ (-27%) drops one place to No3, while Disney/Buena Vista rise 4 places to No4 with the hand-held versions of ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest’ (+73%) benefiting from a very successful cinematic release. Activision’s ‘Over The Hedge’, based of course on the movie (-19%) drops 2 places to No5, whilst unusually this week, the other new entries are both movie tie-ins – Ubisoft release PS2 ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Legend Of Jack Sparrow’ (No10) and THQ debut at No16 with ‘Cars’ on 7 formats. Even this week’s big re-entry has a movie-related slant, as EA come back in at No9 with the Xbox 360 version of ‘Lord Of The Rings: The Battle For Middle-Earth II’ (90% of sales are 360 and 10% are the original PC version which came out in March this year).

Thanks for replying. I thought no one was reading it because normally one or two people left a comment but the last weeks nobody did so.
It's actually a good idea to move them to the DS thread as I don't remember a GC game being there for the last few weeks and the Japanese charts are also in the DS thread so it would make even more sense.

Despite the new entries Brain Training claimes the 6th spot again - seems the chavs are desperate for it :p. NSMB is down from 7 to 10.
Animal Crossing WW also dropped from 14 to 19, Nintendogs Dalmatian from 30 to 33 and Big Brain Academy from from 32 to 35.

This week Brain Training barely managed to stay in the Top10 - going down from 6 due to some new entries. New Super Mario Bros. left place 10 and went down to 12. Animal Crossing WW decreased from 19 to 25 but Nintendogs Dalmatian claims spot 33 for another week.

You miss the good parts Konfucius.

EA’s ‘FIFA 07’ scores a second hat-trick at the top of the All Formats Chart, holding on to No1 for a third consecutive week in the face of the launch of Nintendo’s revolutionary new Wii console.

With the Christmas chart only one week away, there is no change in second place as EA’s ‘Need for Speed: Carbon’ (Wii version new this week) sticks at No2. Renewed sales of the PSP and Xbox 360 versions push ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 6’ up from No4 to No3, while last week’s retailer promoted game ‘Call of Duty 3’ from Activision falls back one place to No4, despite the Wii version joining the battle this week. In total 6 out of the 14 Wii titles launched this week feature in the All Formats Top 40. Nintendo’s ‘The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess’ debuts at No5 with two thirds of new Wii owners buying a copy, while ‘Wii Play’ (only sold as part of a bundle with the Wii Remote) comes in at No9. Nintendo may occupy the top two positions in the Wii Top 10 with ‘Zelda’ and ‘Wii Play’, but all the other positions are held by third party publishers with Ubisoft leading the way thanks to ‘Red Steel’ at No3, ‘Rayman Raving Rabbids’ at No4, ‘Monster 4x4 World Circuit’ at No8 and ‘GT Pro Series’ at No9. All four All Formats Top 40 new entries are on Nintendo’s new console with exclusives ‘Red Steel’ at No19 and the multi-format ‘Rayman Raving Rabbits’ bounding in at No30. This week’s highest climber is Midway’s ‘Happy Feet’ (Wii version new this week), dancing its way up seven places from No18 to No11. The success of Microsoft’s promotional bolt-on bundles means ‘Project Gotham Racing 3’ climbs from No36 to No22, while ‘Xbox 360 Live Arcade Unplugged’ enters the Top 40 for the first time at No35. There are now 14 DS games in the All Formats Chart ,with ‘Yoshi’s Island DS’ at No36, almost doubling in sales in its second week and ‘Big Brain Academy’ re-entering at No39.

The DS titles actually increased a bit while the Wii titles saw huge drops. However, this isn't particularly surprising because the Wii is sold out everywhere and I guess most people have healthy amount of games for the moment. Also keep in mind that these aren't figures of units sold only percentages so a general increase or decrease can't be determined.

This week doesn't have any Wii titles at all in the Top40 but that is most likely because everyone who has a Wii has the games he want and there's a bit of a Wii shortage...
Also after some times absence Animal Crossing Wild World made it back into the charts. It seems this game as well as Brain Training just won't stop selling.
I'd also like to bring to your attention that Simpsons Hit and Run entered the charts again after some absence as well. If you look at my first post you'll notice that over a year ago it was already in the Platinum range and in the Top40 - as well as Animal Crossing which was released in Europe around that time.

Good evening. The new software charts are available.
And Zelda TP is back. :yay::yay::yay:

Copied from ChartTrack:
If EA’s New Years resolution was to claim the Top 3 games in the All Formats Chart, the giant US publisher has succeeded in week 1 with ‘FIFA 07’ kicking off 2007 at No1, followed by ‘Need For Speed: Carbon’ at No2 and ‘The Sims 2: Pets’ up one place to No3.

Every game in the All Formats Top 40 drops in sales with the seasonal post-Christmas decline accompanied by no significant new releases. Konami’s ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 6’ slips from No2 to No4, while the heavily promoted ‘Canis Canem Edit’ chalks up its joint highest All Formats chart position, up 3 places to No5. EA is the only publisher to have more than one game in the All Formats Top 10 with THQ’s ‘WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2007’ knocked out of the Top 10 from No6 to No11, while their game ‘Cars’ shifts from No10 to No7. ‘Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy’ and ‘New Super Mario Bros.’ re-enter the Top 10 at Nos 8 and 9 respectively. The remainder of the chart pack gets shuffled this week with ‘Buzz! Junior: Jungle Party’ coming up trumps as the highest Top 40 climber, up from No39 to No23.

Capcom brings EA’s grip on the All Formats No1 spot to an end with Xbox 360 exclusive ‘Lost Planet: Extreme Condition’ debuting at No1, ahead of Nintendo’s Wii-exclusive ‘Wario Ware: Smooth Moves’ new at No2 (No1 in the Wii Chart). It’s Capcom’s first All Formats No1 since ‘Dead Rising’, which was also an Xbox 360 exclusive, 19 weeks ago.

Sales of ‘FIFA 07’ are down by 59%, the largest drop-off for any All Formats Top 40 game this week, pushing the Christmas Chart-topper down from No1 to No3. ‘Lost Planet: Extreme Condition’ is the 5th Xbox 360 exclusive game to reach the All Formats No1 position, following ‘Dead or Alive 4’, ‘Saints Row’, ‘Dead Rising’ and ‘Gears of War’. There are now 17 format-exclusives in the All Formats Top 40 this week. After weeks of low stock, ‘The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess’ re-enters the Top 10, up from No36 to No8, boosted also by renewed sales of Wii hardware (up by 85% on last week).

The only other new release to make the All Formats Top 40 is Sega’s ‘World Snooker Championship 2007’ at No17, while there are re-entries for ‘Wii Play’ at No19 and ‘Red Steel’ at No34 thanks in part to renewed Wii hardware stock.

The online gaming phenomenon that is ‘World of Warcraft’ tops the All Formats Top 40 this week with the long-awaited first official add-on ‘World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade’ debuting at No1.

Released on Tuesday 16th January ‘World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade’, developed by Blizzard and published by Vivendi, was allowed 5 days of sales rather than the traditional two, but still narrowly missed beating ‘Championship Manager 04’ to the title of fastest selling PC game ever in the UK by just under 1,000 units. ‘Burning Crusade’ accounts for 30% of all PC games sold this week compared to 40% for Eidos’ ‘Championship Manager 04’ in week 13 2003. In its launch week ‘World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade’ outsells the original World of Warcraft’s launch week by almost 4 to 1 with the number of subscribers to the game now estimated to be over 8 million worldwide. ‘Burning Crusade’ is only playable with the original game so it is not surprising to see ‘World of Warcraft’ re-enter the Top 40 at No28. Last week’s chart topper from Capcom ‘Lost Planet: Extreme Condition’ moves down to No2, but outsells the No3 title Nintendo’s ‘Wario Ware: Smooth Moves’ by more than 2 to 1.

Sega’s ‘World Snooker Championship 2007’ pockets a successful 2nd week of release with sales up 44%, moving up the rankings from No17 to No6 (No2 in the PS2 Full Price Chart, behind ‘FIFA 07’), while Nintendo’s ‘Wii Play’ makes the most of renewed stock, up from No19 to No11. The PC gaming sector does not only receive a boost from Warcraft, but also benefits from strong retailer promotions of super-budget titles with Egames/Greenstreet’s ‘Galaxy of Games Red’ featuring at No24, ‘Sega Rally’ from GDL’s Grabit range at No27, GSP’s ‘Puppy Luv’ at No31 and ‘Sonic Mega Collection Plus’ at No36.

One day late (but I guess nobody missed it anyways) I present the weekly software UK software charts.

Capcom regains No1 in the All Formats Top 40 with ‘Lost Planet: Extreme Condition’, while last week’s chart topper ‘World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade’ feels the heat, dropping from No1 to No5 after an impressive launch week.

Last year Capcom only managed one week at All Formats No1 with ‘Dead Rising’, but ‘Lost Planet’ has not only recaptured No1, but also outsold ‘Dead Rising’ over its first three weeks of launch by 20%. ‘FIFA 07’ and ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 6’ continue to sell well, up from No4 to No2 and No5 to No3 respectively. Replenished stock propels ‘Wii Play’ back into the Top 10, up from No11 to No4, giving Nintendo two Top 10 Wii titles, as ‘Wario Ware: Smooth Moves’ slips from No3 to No6. Nintendo record 8 games in the All Formats Top 40 this week, more than any other publisher (including EA, which has 7).

THQ’s ‘Cars’ reverses back into the Top 10, up from No16 to No9, boosted by retailer price promotions, while the American publisher’s ‘Zoo Tycoon DS’ enjoys a promotional boost, making it this week’s highest climber, up from No37 to No24. Football loses out to snooker in the PS2 Full Price chart this week as Sega’s ‘World Championship Snooker 2007’ pockets the No1 spot with ‘FIFA 07’ down from No1 to No3. No new releases make the All Formats Top 40, but Ubisoft’s film tie-in ‘Rocky Balboa’ debuts at No3 in the PSP Full Price chart, while Nintendo’s new ‘Star Fox Command’ enters the DS chart at No8.

Welcome to the charts ending 3.2.

Capcom’s ‘Lost Planet: Extreme Condition’ holds on to the No1 spot in the All Formats Chart for a 2nd consecutive week, while the football heavyweights of ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 6’ and ‘FIFA 07’ swap places - Konami’s ‘PES 6’ up one place to No2 and EA’s ‘FIFA 07’ dropping to No3.

There are now 6 games in the All Formats Top 10 by 4 different Japanese publishers (Capcom, Konami, Nintendo and Sega). Sega also claim this weeks highest new entry with the ‘Sega Mega Drive Collection’ on PSP/PS2 at No4 (No1 in the PSP budget chart, No3 on PS2 budget), .while Nintendo’s Wii games continue to sell well with 2 Wii exclusives in the Top 10 – ‘Wario Ware: Smooth Moves’ up from No6 to No5 and ‘Wii Play’ down from No4 to No7, while ‘The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess’ is this week’s highest climber, up from No21 to No13. Nintendo can also celebrate success on DS with a Top 10 re-entry for ‘New Super Mario Bros.’, up from No11 to No8 as well as a first appearance in the Top 40 for ‘Star Fox Command’ at No26 in its second week of release.

‘Little Britain: The Video Game’ becomes the only Blast/Mastertronic game in the Top 40 village this week, new at No14, while Ubisoft’s film tie-in ‘Rocky Balboa’ on PSP has an excellent second round, entering the Top 40 for the first time at No27 in its second week of release. The only remaining Top 40 new entry is Sony Online Entertainment/Koch Media’s ‘Vanguard: Saga of Heroes’ at No34, a new MMORPG from the makers of Everquest – set to provide competition with ‘World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade’ which drops out of the Top 10 (down from No5 to No18).

Eidos becomes the 4th different publisher so far this year to reach No1 in the All Formats Chart (after EA, Capcom and Vivendi) with ‘Battlestations: Midway’ flying straight to the top (and No1 in the Xbox 360 Full Price Chart).

It’s the first All Formats No1 for the British publisher since ‘Hitman: Blood Money’ in May 2006 and shoots Capcom’s ‘Lost Planet: Extreme Condition’ down from No1 to No6. The computer says that ‘Little Britain: The Video Game’ from Mastertronic is this week’s highest climber, up from No14 to No2, missing out on No1 by only 1,000 units, but in a rare occurrence, gives UK publishers the top 2 places in the All Formats Chart. ‘FIFA 07’ keeps its eye on the ball, holding on to No3, while Konami’s ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 6’ slips from No4 to No2, but there is only a difference of 50 sales between Little Britain at No2 and PES 6 at No4. Two new entries break into the Top 20 – THQ’s multi-format ‘Avatar: The Legend of Aang’ based on the Nickelodeon anime cartoon, debuts at No13 and the critically acclaimed PS2 ‘Okami’ from Capcom is at No17 (No1 in the PS2 Full Price Chart ahead of Avatar).

There is now only a trickle of Wii games in the All Formats Top 40 as ‘Wario Ware Smooth Moves’ slides from No5 to No21, Wii Play drops from No7 to No27 and ‘The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess’ falls from No13 to No26. However Nintendo enjoys resurgent sales of DS games with ‘Nintendogs: Lab & Friends’ and ‘Nintendogs: Dalmatian & Friends’ both re-entering the chart at Nos 28 and 30 respectively.

‘FIFA 07’ shoots Eidos’ ‘Battlestations: Midway’ down from No1 to No8 to claim top spot in the All Formats Chart for the 10th time (equalling ‘Need for Speed: Most Wanted’). ‘Need for Speed: Carbon’ accelerates from No7 to No2 echoing the Christmas run-in where both EA titles held these positions for 4 consecutive weeks. Their chart-topping performance this time around is partly due to price promotion at retail.

Konami’s ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 6’ climbs one place from No4 to No3, helped by the recent release of the DS version. THQ register two Top 10 games this week – ‘Supreme Commander’ on PC the only Top 10 new entry at No4 and ‘Avatar: The Legend of Aang’ breaking into the Top 10, up from No13 to No6. EA’s Sims games also perform well this week – ‘The Sims 2: Pets’ jumps one place to No7, ‘The Sims 2’ stays at No12 (despite a climb of 43% in sales), ‘The Sims: Life Stories’ enters the Top 40 for the first time at No23 in its 2nd week, and the super-budget original ‘The Sims’ re-enters one place behind it at No24.

Super-budget PC games infiltrate the All Formats Top 40 led by GDL/Grabit’s ‘Bad Boys 2’, back at No17, followed by Extra Level Media’s ‘50 Games Red’ at No19. The success of the film during Half-Term has spun ‘Charlotte’s Web’ into the Top 40 at No30 in its second week of release, while Nintendo’s ‘Excite Truck’ becomes the Japanese giant’s 4th Wii hit, debuting at No36.

The Square-Enix Final Fantasy phenomenon shows no signs of coming to an end with the latest instalment ‘Final Fantasy XII’ on PS2 becoming the fastest selling game in the series, debuting at No1 in the All Formats Chart ahead of Microsoft’s GTA-style ‘Crackdown’ for Xbox 360 at No2.

‘Final Fantasy XII’ accounts for 53.5% of all Full Price PS2 sales this week and is also the 5th different All Formats No1 so far this year, the highest number since 1999. ‘Crackdown’, which was developed by Realtime Worlds with Grand Theft Auto creator David Jones, adds to a successful start to the year for Microsoft and Xbox 360, becoming the 4th fastest selling Xbox 360 game behind ‘Gears of War’ ‘PES 6’ and ‘Call of Duty 3’. EA remains a strong presence in the All Formats Top 10 despite ‘FIFA 07’ slipping from No1 to No3 and ‘Need for Speed: Carbon’ reversing from No2 to No5. EA’s ‘The Sims 2: Pets’ climbs one place from No7 to No6, while the jump of ‘The Sims 2’ from No12 to No8 gives the giant American publisher four Top 10 games in the All Formats Chart.

The continued success of super budget PC software sees Grabit/GDL shoot their way into the Top 10 with ‘Bad Boys II’ up from No17 to No7, while titles such as ‘Sudoku’ at No16 and ‘Sheep’ at No17 help give the new budget re-publisher a total of 6 Top 40 titles. Five games crash out of the All Formats Top 10 – ‘Supreme Commander’ drops from No4 to No12, ‘Avatar: The Legend of Aang’ falls from No6 to No14, ‘Little Britain: The Video Game’ slips 13 places from No5 to No18, ‘Lost Planet: Extreme Condition’ is now at No22 from No10, while ‘Battlestations: Midway’ which was No1 two weeks ago now finds itself at No23. Wii title ‘Excite Truck’ jumps over ‘Zelda: The Twilight Princess’, up from No36 to No21 and now tops the Wii Chart.

Several Nintendo titles reentered the charts this week and three claimed the Top10 with Sonic Secret Rings coming in on 5th place in its first week and keep in mind the stats end on Saturday so Sonic only had two days to go sell.

Square-Enix’s ‘Final Fantasy XII’ remains at the top of the All Formats Chart for a second week ahead of Microsoft’s ‘Crackdown’ which holds on to No2.

The last Final Fantasy game for the PS1 ‘Final Fantasy IX’ is the only other ‘Final Fantasy’ game to hold on to the All Formats No1 position for longer (3 weeks). There may be no change at the top, but there is room in the Top 10 for 2 new entries – EA’s ‘The Sims 2: Seasons’ at No3 and Sega’s ‘Sonic and the Secret Rings’ on Wii at No5 (and No1 in the Wii Chart). The All Formats Top 10 contains 6 format-exclusive games across PS2, Xbox 360, PC, Wii and DS. Nintendo’s ‘Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training’ can’t get enough of the All Formats Top 10, re-entering for a second time, up from No11 to No8 while pushing All Formats No10 ‘New Super Mario Bros.’ down to No2 in the DS Chart. The only other new entry in this week’s Top 40 is Take 2’s ‘Ghost Rider’ at No24 in its second week of release. It’s a good week for Japanese publishers as well as Nintendo software formats with half the All Formats Top 10 being games published by Japanese companies. All Top 40 Wii and DS exclusive games are climbers this week, except ‘Mario Slam Basketball’ which drops from No36 to No39.

The lower reaches of the All Formats Top 40 is peppered with DS re-entries – ‘Animal Crossing: Wild World’ at No32, ‘Nintendogs: Dalmatian & Friends’ at No33, ‘Big Brain Academy’ at No38 and ‘Mario Kart DS’ at No40. Nintendo is the most represented publisher in the Top 40 with 11 games.. ‘Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2’ from Ubisoft and ‘Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories’ are both due next week and will make it hard for Square to realise a 3rd week at No1.

WEEK ENDING 10 March 2007

Ubisoft put Square-Enix’s two-week run at the top of the All Formats Chart to an end as ‘Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2’ on Xbox 360 debuts at No1, pushing ‘Final Fantasy XII’ down to No2.

The first ‘Warfighter’ game never managed to top the All Formats Chart despite selling 10,000 more units when it was released exactly one year ago. ‘Final Fantasy XII’ remains top of the PS2 Full Price Chart by a long margin despite sales dropping by over 50%. The budget priced PS2 release of ‘Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories’ propels Rockstar/Take 2’s game back into the All Formats Chart at No3 (No1 PS2 budget chart). Microsoft’s ‘Crackdown’ on Xbox 360 can’t compete with the new ‘Warfighter’, cracking under the pressure (down 3 places from No2 to No5). Sega’s ‘Sonic and the Secret Rings’ performs better, up one place to No4. At No32, Nintendo’s ‘Mario Vs Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis’ is the only other new entry in the All Formats Top 40 with new titles ‘The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift’ from EA/Namco Bandai only making No10 in the PS2 Full Price Chart and Atari’s ‘Bullet Witch’ only managing to conjure up No7 in the Xbox 360 Full Price Chart.

Ubisoft’s ‘Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2’ is just knocked off the top of this week’s chart by Rockstar’s ‘Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories’ with only 200 sales between them. The budget PS2 version of ‘GTA: Vice City Stories’ is up by 35% on last week, giving the title its first week at No1 on the All Formats Chart.

‘Tom Clancy’s GRAW 2’ on Xbox 360 moves down to No2 and ‘Final Fantasy XII’ follows suit to No3. Sega’s ‘Sonic and the Secret Rings’ is a non-mover at No4 and ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07’ returns to the chart at No5 thanks to the Wii release of the popular series. The PS2 conversion of ‘Test Drive Unlimited’ is unable to move ‘Final Fantasy XII’ off the top of the PS2 Full Price Chart but propels the title back to No7 in the All Formats Chart. There are new entries this week for Disney Interactive with DS ‘Spectrobes’ at No23 overall and No4 in the DS Chart and for EA with Wii ‘SSX Blur’ at No28 overall and No5 in the Wii Chart.

Sorry Konfucius, I am taken the UK & PS3 sales this week.

Sony’s PS3 becomes the fastest selling home console in the UK, selling an estimated 165,000 units in its first two days of release, bettered only by its older handheld sibling the PSP which sold around 185,000. PS3 is the most expensive console to be released in the UK, launching at £424.99 with 22 games from 7 different publishers while PSP had 24 games available from 11 different publishers when it was released in September 2005. PS3 launch software registered almost 3 times more units than PS2, but with a similar software to hardware attachment rate of 1.65 compared to PS2’s 1.67.

‘Resistance: Fall of Man’ leads the PS3 assault on this week’s All Formats Chart, awarding Sony with their first All Formats No1 since ‘Shadow of the Collosus’ just over a year ago. Sony’s ‘MotorStorm’ on PS3, by Cheshire developer Evolution Studios, starts its engines at No2 while there are a total of 6 new PS3 games represented in the Top 10 with 13 new PS3 games in the Top 40 (5 of which are exclusive to Sony’s new format).

‘Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories’ from Rockstar/Take 2 tumbles from No1 to No6, behind multi-format newcomers ‘Brian Lara International Cricket 2007’ on Xbox 360, PS2 and PC at No3, Sega’s ‘Virtua Tennis 3’ on PS3/Xbox 360 at No4 and Activision’s ‘Call of Duty 3’, up from No20 to No5 thanks to the release of the PS3 version.

Other PS3 games represented in the All Formats Top 10 are Sony’s ‘Formula 1: Championship Edition’ at No7 and ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07’ from EA which slips from No5 to No9. Format holder Sony grabs the Top 3 games in the PS3 Chart, more than both Microsoft and Nintendo, who only managed the top two in their respective Xbox 360 and Wii launch week charts. Codemasters’ ‘Brian Lara International Cricket 2007’ is not the only non-PS3 new release to make the Top 10 with THQ’s PC game ‘S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl’ sneaking in at No8.

There are 12 new titles that enter the All Formats Top 40 this week, but not all are on PS3 with EA’s ‘UEFA Champions League 2006-2007’ debuting at No15 and ‘TMNT: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ from Ubisoft at No19. ‘Ridge Racer’ may have topped both the All Formats and PSP chart when Sony’s handheld was launched, but Namco Bandai Games/Sony’s ‘Ridge Racer 7’ on PS3 has to settle for No11 across all formats and No5 in the PS3 Chart.

EA’s new ‘Def Jam: Icon’ on PS3 and Xbox 360 is at No12 with the Xbox 360 version representing 63% of sales. Sega ‘Virtua Tennis 3’ lobs ‘Virtua Fighter 5’ in the PS3 Chart, coming in at No6 - one place ahead of the fabled beat-em-up, with the PS3 exclusive brawler having to settle for No14 in the All Formats Chart.

Sony’s 5th and final PS3-exclusive launch title ‘Genji: Days of the Blade’ enters at No16 rounding off a very successful week for the publisher.

First off my apologies for being late again but Uni and CnC Tibwars kept me rather occupied.

While we're at Tiberium Wars: It's on top of the charts which is quite surprising for a PC-only title.

The original Command & Conquer stormed onto PCs 11½ years ago, debuting in the same week as the launch of Sony’s iconic Playstation console (week 39, 1995). This week EA’s revolutionary strategy franchise proves it is far from forgotten with ‘Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars’ again giving Sony’s console launch a run for its money by toppling ‘Resistance: Fall of Man’ on PS3 to claim No1 in the All Formats Chart.

It has taken the Command & Conquer series almost 7½ years to regain top spot in the All Formats Chart, having held on to No1 for 4 weeks with ‘Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun’ back in August 1999. Sony’s heavyweight PS3 exclusives have to make way, with ‘Resistance: Fall of Man’ down to No2, dropping 66% in sales and ‘Motorstorm’ slipping from No2 to No3 (down 62% in sales). Codemasters’ ‘Brain Lara International Cricket 2007’ has a solid 2nd innings thanks to improved 2nd week sales of the PS2 version (up from No2 to No1 in the PS2 Full Price Chart ahead of newcomer ‘Medal of Honor: Vanguard’ at No2), but still has to make way for Command and Conquer by dropping one place from No3 to No4. The PSP and PC versions of ‘Virtua Tennis 3’ are new this week, but are not enough to lift Sega above Codemasters, the tennis game also down one place from No4 to No5. Ubisoft’s ‘TMNT: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ is boosted by the success of the new film, breaking into the All Formats Top 10, up from No21 to No6. EA’s ‘UEFA Champions League 2006-2007’ joins TMNT as the only Top 10 All Formats games to increase in sales this week. There are only 2 new releases in the All Formats Top 40 this week and both are from EA – ‘Command and Conquer 3’ on PC at No1 and ‘Medal of Honor: Vanguard’ for PS2 and Wii at No11. The PS3 version of ‘Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Double Agent’ is the only new release for Sony’s new console this week, taking the total number of PS3 games available to 23.

Surprise, surprise PC game CNC 3 still on top but I can understand that, it's pretty amazing.

Ubisoft’s ‘TMNT: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ enjoys a cowabunga Easter, almost toppling EA’s ‘Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars’ at the top of the All Formats Chart, up 4 places from No6 to No2, while the PC strategy giant remains at No1 for a second week despite a fall of 43% in sales.

There are only 592 unit sales between Ubisoft’s film tie-in and the No1 spot. Sony’s PS3 exclusive games ‘Resistance: Fall of Man’ and ‘Motorstorm’ both slip out of the All Formats Top 10, down to No’s 11 and 15 respectively, making way for PS2 and Xbox 360 games such as EA’s ‘Medal of Honor: Vanguard’ (No1 PS2 Full Price game, ahead of ‘TMNT’ at No2) up from No11 to No4 in its second week of release and the revival of Red Octane/Activision’s ‘Guitar Hero II’ re-entering at No5 thanks to the launch of the souped-up Xbox 360 version (No1 Xbox 360 Full Price game). The launch of new Sims expansion pack ‘The Sims 2: Celebration Stuff’ has breathed life back into EA’s franchise with ‘The Sims 2’ No12, ‘The Sims 2: Pets’ No13 and ‘The Sims 2: Seasons’ No29, all witnessing healthy sales increases of 52%, 60% and 34% respectively. However, the new expansion pack itself does not make it into the All Formats Top 40, despite debuting at the top of the PC budget chart.

I know but in this case I think it's really good which has mainly to do with the fact that I own Tiberium Wars and love it - although it's no Tiberian Sun but still great.

I actually mentioned it because it's very unlikely for a PC title to stay at the top of the UK Charts.

After last week’s disappointment of losing out to ‘Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars’ by a small margin, Ubisoft’s film tie-in ‘TMNT: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ climbs one place to No1, beating off competition from Nintendo’s 4th Pokemon game for DS ‘Pokemon Ranger’ - this weeks only new entry, at No2.

Ubisoft infiltrate the rest of the All Formats Chart thanks to a strong retailer promotion across 7 of their super-budget PC games. There are now 10 Ubisoft titles in the All Formats Top 40 with re-entries for ‘Rayman 2: The Great Escape’ at No3, ‘Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30’ at No6 and ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’ at No10. ‘Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars’ is caught in the crossfire, falling from No1 to No5, but EA can console themselves with an above par performance from ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07’ which moves its way up the leaderboard from No9 to No4.

With ‘UEFA Champions League 2006-2007 dropping to No11, Codemasters ‘Brian Lara International Cricket 2007’ is only the 2nd other All Format Top 10 sports title, despite slipping 4 places to No7. Nintendo’s ‘Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training’ has now spent 25 of its 45 weeks of release inside the All Formats Top 10, climbing back in to the Top 10 for the third time, up from No14 to No9. After failing to enter the All Formats Top 40 in its week of release, ‘The Sims 2: Celebration Stuff’ enjoys a bumper 2nd week at No19. The highest ranking PS3-exclusive game in now Sony’s ‘Motorstorm’ (6,899) at No22, overtaking ‘Resistance: Fall of Man’ (No27) at the top of the PS3 chart, while there is no change at the top of the PSP, Xbox 360 and PC Full Price Charts, headed by ‘300: March to Glory’, ‘Guitar Hero II’ and ‘Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars’ respectively.

In its ongoing quest to ‘catch ‘em all’ ‘Pokemon Ranger’ defeats last week’s All Formats Champion ‘TMNT: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’, presenting Nintendo with their first All Formats No1 since ‘Pokemon Ruby’ on GBA just under 4 years ago.

‘Pokemon Ranger’ becomes the 6th Pokemon title to reach the top of the All Formats Chart in the past 10 years, while also being the first Pokemon title on DS to reach No1 in the DS chart. Ubisoft’s ‘TMNT’ slips one place to No2, almost losing out to ‘Wii Play’, which rises from No24 to No3 thanks to strong availability. It is another good week for Nintendo’s handheld – there are 7 DS exclusive games featuring in the All Formats Top 40 with ‘Harvest Moon DS’ from Rising Star Games storming into 4th place after not making the Top 40 when it was released last week. Other DS exclusives making their first All Formats Top 40 appearances are Nintendo’s ‘Hotel Dusk: Room 215’ at No22 in its second week, while ‘All-Time Classics’ re-enters at No21 and 505 Games’ ‘Cooking Mama’ gets its first taste of All Formats Chart success at No35. Two more PS3 games are launched this week, pushing the total number of PS3 games to 25. Both games are ports – Vivendi’s ‘F.E.A.R’ debuts at No3 in the PS3 Chart (No17 All Formats) behind ‘Motorstorm’ and ‘Resistance’, while the postponed ‘The Godfather’ from EA begins life in the PS3 Chart at No10.

In a week low on the ground for new releases, the only individual format chart to witness a change at the top is Xbox 360 with ‘Crackdown’ up from No2 to No1.

There are a total of 11 Nintendo games in the Charts this week, 8 for DS and 3 for Wii.

‘God of War II’ on PS2 rewards Sony with its 2nd All Formats No1 so far this year, debuting ahead of RPG newcomer ‘Lord of the Rings: Online', new at No2 (released on Tuesday) and RPG veteran ‘The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion’, back in the All Formats Top 40 at No3 thanks to its release this week on PS3.

‘Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar’, published by Codemasters and developed by Turbine (creators of other MMORPG titles ‘Asherons Call’ and ‘D&D Online: Stormreach’) becomes the second fastest selling online-only PC title, behind World of Warcraft. Last week’s No1 from Nintendo ‘Pokemon Ranger’ is down to No5, while stablemate ‘Wii Play’ moves ahead of it, despite falling from No3 to No4. There have now been 12 different titles at the top of the All Formats Chart in the first 17 weeks of 2007. Fellow format holder Sony proves that there is still life in PS2 with the arrival of ‘Singstar Pop Hits’ at No6, giving Sony two All Formats Top 10 titles. The release of ‘Buzz!: The Mega Quiz’ at No16 rounds off a strong week of first party releases for Sony. Nintendo does however also enjoy chart success - ‘Hotel Dusk: Room 215’ is up from No22 to No11 and ‘Diddy Kong Racing DS’ enters at No13 in its second week of release.

Jesus....

Now that is some impressive sales going on there in Germany,I mean I didn't expect Nintendo to do that well in any part of Europe.

Least there is still a good amount of games in the UK chart, wonder if Tp will get knocked out the top 40 soon.Good to see the DS doing well, especially with some games been out for a while.

Well done guys :)

After one week Sony’s ‘God of War II’ is deposed at the top of the All Formats Chart by Activision’s web-slinging super-hero film tie-in ‘Spider-Man 3’, pushing ‘God of War II’ down to No3, behind ‘Wii Play’ which climbs 2 places from No4 to No2 – up 30% in sales, helped by renewed Wii hardware stock.

‘Spider-Man 3’ records its highest sales on Xbox 360, accounting for 45% of units, while PS2 is 40%, Wii 10%, DS 4% and 1% on PC. It was a different story with the release of ‘Spider-Man 2’ which dominated on PS2 with a 65% share, compared to 23% on the original Xbox back in week 28, 2004. Sony however claim the highest number of All Formats Top 10 titles with ‘Singstar Pop Hits’ showing no signs of losing its voice, up from No6 to No4 and ‘Buzz! The Mega Quiz’ breaking into the Top 10 in its second week of release, up from No16 to No6.

Promotional bundling of the PC version shoots ‘FIFA 07’ back into the Top 10 at No7, while ‘Pokemon Ranger’ manages to stay ahead of the big DS exclusive new entry this week ‘Final Fantasy III’ despite slipping from No5 to No10. ‘Final Fantasy III’ from Square-Enix is this week’s second highest new entry, debuting one place behind ‘Pokemon Ranger’ at No11 in the All Formats Chart and at No2 in the DS Chart, while ‘Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar’ is this week’s biggest All Formats casualty, dropping from No2 to No17, but still holding on to top spot in the PC Full Price Chart.

Activision’s ‘Spider-Man 3’ sticks to No1 in the All Formats Chart for a second week with sales up 26% and benefiting from the cross-promotional activity surrounding the movie.

The Xbox 360 version of ‘Spider-Man 3’ outsold the PS2 version on launch week, but this week the PS2 version is the super-hero, climbing 73% while the Xbox 360 version drops by 25%. However, the Xbox 360 version of ‘Spider-Man 3’ has to contend with the launch of the first Next-Gen version of ‘Command & Conquer’ as the release of ‘Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars’ (82% Xbox 360, 18% PC) pushes EA’s strategy title up from No20 to No2 (No1 on Xbox 360 ahead of Spider-Man 3 at No2). The Platinum PS2 and PSP releases of ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 6’ shoot Konami’s successful title back into the All Formats Top 10, up from No25 to No4, ahead of ‘FIFA 07’, up from No7 to No5 - continuing to enjoy a sales surge thanks to bundling on PC.

After simmering nicely on Nintendo DS in recent weeks, ‘Cooking Mama’ from 505 Games serves up the first ever All Formats Top 10 position for the traditionally budget focused UK publisher - the release of the Wii version propels ‘Cooking Mama’ from No23 to No6. ‘Final Fantasy III’ from Square-Enix also breaks into the All Formats Top 10 this week, up from No11 to No7, toppling ‘Pokemon Ranger’ at the top of the DS Chart.

The release this week of the PS3 version of ‘Spider-Man 3’ ensures that Activision’s film tie-in continues to hang on to No1 in the All Formats Chart for a third week.

‘Spider-Man 2’ managed 5 weeks at the top of the All Formats Chart when it was released 3 years ago. ‘Spider-Man 3’ is the first All Formats No1 for Activision since another film tie-in, ‘Madagascar’ in August 2005. ‘Spider-Man 3’ now tops both the PS2 and PS3 Charts with the PS3 version accounting for 19% and the PS2 version 49% of all ‘Spider-Man 3’ sales this week. ‘Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars’ is a non-mover from EA at No2, while Konami’s budget-priced ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 6’ shifts up one place to No3. ‘Cooking Mama’ from 505 Games, now on both DS and Wii, is starting to get a taste for Chart success, up one place to No5. The All Formats Top 10 is well represented with games on Nintendo formats (Wii, DS) with a total of 7 games, compared to 4 for both Sony (PS3, PS2, PSP) and Microsoft (Xbox 360).

It is an above par week for ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07’ which benefits from strong Wii sales, up from No10 to No6, while EA’s ‘FIFA 07’ moves the other way, down from No5 to No7. With the date for Halo 3 now confirmed as 26th September, ‘Crackdown 3’, which contains a free Halo 3 Beta, re-enters the All Formats Top 10, up from No19 to No8. The All Formats Top 10 is rounded off with 2 DS exclusive games – ‘Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training’ which continues to jump in and out of the Top 10, up from No16 to No9 and ‘Final Fantasy III’ down 3 places to No10.

Wierd that they have both versions of Cooking Mama under one listing but I guess they do that with handheld versions of multi-system games usually too, even if the handheld version is drastically different.

Disney Interactive Studios celebrate a swashbuckling second week for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End’, claiming their first ever All Formats No1 and forcing Activision’s ‘Spider-Man 3’ to walk the plank – falling from No1 to No3.

‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End’ sails into a commanding lead at the top thanks to an 83% increase in sales on last week, becoming the 3rd film tie-in to reach No1 in the All Formats Chart in the past 8 weeks (after ‘Spider-Man 3’ and ‘TMNT’), and topping the PS3, PSP and Xbox 360 Charts. Eidos miss out on the top spot, debuting at No2 with ‘Tomb Raider: Anthology’, but can console themselves with a 3rd Tomb Raider game to debut at No1 in the PS2 Full Price Chart (after ‘Legend’ and ‘Angel of Darkness’). Nintendo remain the most represented publisher in the All Formats Top 10 with format exclusive titles ‘Mario Strikers Charged Football’ dipping one place from No3 to No4, ‘Wii Play’ holding on to No6 and ‘Kawashima’ down one place to No8. Sales of ‘Cooking Mama’ from 505 Games are still simmering nicely with a half-term rise of 3 places from No10 to No7.

The next highest new entry after ‘Tomb Raider’ goes to ‘Shadowrun’ from Microsoft at No11 – the first title geared towards cooperative online play between PC and Xbox 360 gamers. THQ’s ‘Spongebob & Friends: Volcano Island’ erupts into the Top 40, new at No14 in its second week of release. The new ‘Pirates’ film manages to unearth lost treasure, with the budget priced ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Jack Sparrow’ back in the Top 40 at No23.

Microsoft speeds to the top of the All Formats chart as ‘Forza Motorsport 2’ on Xbox 360 puts last week’s No1 ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End’ to the sword (down 2 places to No3).

‘Forza Motorsport 2’ has an excellent launch week, becoming the 3rd fastest selling Xbox 360 title ever (behind ‘Gears of War’ and ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 6’) as well as the 4th fastest across any format so far this year (behind ‘World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade’, ‘Final Fantasy XII’ and ‘Resistance: Fall of Man’). Lara clings on to No2 with ‘Tomb Raider: Anniversary’, but the gap between her and ‘Pirates’ at No3 is only 1,000 sales. Activision’s ‘Spider-Man 3’ is pushed down from No3 to No4, while Nintendo manage to move up one place to No5 with ‘Wii Play’ - the only Top 10 game to increase sales this week (up 14%). However ‘Mario Strikers Charged Football’ is off target this week, positioning itself at No6 (down 2 places), while Konami’s more realistic football title also falls 2 places with ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 6’ down to No7. Microsoft have 2 games in the All formats Top 10 this week thanks to ‘Shadowrun’ climbing from No11 to No10. Microsoft fare less well with the Vista-only PC version of ‘Halo 2’ which doesn’t make the All Formats Top 40, coming in at No5 in the PC Full Price Entertainment Chart. The only other new entry in the Top 40 this week aside from ‘Forza’ is EA’s ‘The Sims 2: H&M Stuff’ which makes its debut at No11, while Nintendo claim this week’s highest re-entry with ‘The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess’ at No24 and also enjoy a first appearance in the Top 40 at No31 for ‘Wario: Master of Disguise’ which was released 2 weeks ago.

Microsoft’s ‘Forza Motorsport 2’ retains pole position in the All Formats chart for a second week with ‘Tomb Raider: Anniversary’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End’ both stuck at Nos 2 and 3 respectively with only 183 sales separating them.

Sales of ‘Forza Motorsport 2’ are down 34% on its launch week, but competitor ‘Colin McRae: Dirt’ from Codemasters cannot beat it, debuting at No4 and selling just over half of Forza’s total on Xbox 360 this week. Nintendo remain the largest represented company in the All Formats Top 10 with 3 titles – ‘Wii Play’ holding on to No5, ‘Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training’ jumping from No8 to No6, and ‘Mario Strikers Charged Football’ slipping 3 places to No9. There is only one other new release to make the All Formats Top 40 – Take 2’s multi-format ‘Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer’ entering at No8 behind another comic book film tie-in ‘Spider-Man 3’, dropping this week from No4 to No7.

Competitive pricing pushes EA’s ‘Medal of Honor: Vanguard’ back into the Top 40 at No18, while ‘The History Channel: Great Battles of Rome’ from Black Bean manages to break into the Top 40 in its second week, at No34.

A third week and a third lap of honour for Microsoft’s ‘Forza Motorsport 2’ (although sales are down 45%), retaining top podium position in the All Formats chart for a third week, something the original title on Xbox never quite managed - it was held to No2 upon release in week 19, 2005 behind Lucasarts/Ubisoft’s ‘Star Wars Ep III: Revenge Of The Sith’.

Back in the present and 2K Games/Take 2 climb six places to No2 thanks to movie/comic book franchise ‘Fantastic 4: Rise Of The Silver Surfer’ (+70%), whilst Codemasters climb one place to No3 with ‘Colin McRae: Dirt’ (-29%). Disney’s movie tie-in ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End’ drops one place to No4 (-35%) and continuing with the movie theme, Activision are up one place over last week at No6 with ‘Spider-Man 3’. Activision also unleashes the next big name summer blockbuster this week with ‘Shrek The Third’ debuting at No13 on 4 formats (DS, Wii, 360, PC) with PS2 arriving on the same day as the film’s general release – this Friday 29th June. Right behind Shrek is Empire’s Xbox 360 ‘Flatout: Ultimate Carnage’ debuting here at No14. On the Xbox 360 Full Price Chart driving is certainly flavour of the week with ‘Forza Motorsport 2’ at No1, ‘Colin McRae: Dirt’ at No2 and highest new-entry ‘Flatout: Ultimate Carnage’ at No3. The final new entry within the Top 40 All Formats Chart is from 505 Games with ‘Armored Core 4’ at No39 (PS3/360).

TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE (ALL PRICES), WEEK ENDING 30 June 2007

EA’s ‘Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix’ is top of the class this week, heading a roster of 4 new games in the Top 5 of the All Formats Chart.

EA recorded 16 All Formats No1s in the first half of last year, but in 2007 has to settle for only 5. Last week’s No1 ‘Forza Motorsport 2’ from Microsoft takes a spin, down to No6, but the Xbox 360 format enjoys a strong week thanks to the successful launch of Take 2’s new I.P ‘The Darkness’ at No2 in the All Formats Chart (No1 in the Xbox 360 Full Price Chart). There are in fact 6 new games in the Xbox 360 Full Price Top 10 out of which Codemasters’ ‘Overlord’ and Midway’s ‘Hour of Victory’ break into the All Format Top 40 at No’s 13 and 23 respectively. Activision’s multi-format ‘Shrek the Third’ appropriately takes up the No3 position, up from a launch week No13 – selling only 11 units less than current Xbox 360 exclusive ‘The Darkness’. ‘Resident Evil 4’ also lives up to its title, re-entering the Top 40 at No4 thanks to the launch of the Wii edition, while ‘More Brain Training from Dr Kawashima’ debuts at No5, finally pushing its older namesake out of the Top 10, down from No8 to No12.

The PS3 version of Ubisoft’s ‘Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas’ is a new entry at the Top of the PS3 chart, while it re-enters the All Formats Top 40 at No7. There are now 4 film licenses in the All Formats Top 10 thanks not only to ‘Harry Potter’ at No1 and ‘Shrek the Third’ at No3, but Disney’s ‘Pirates of the Carribbean: At World’s End’ down from No4 to No8 and Take 2’s ‘Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer’ down from No2 to No9. The Top 10 is rounded off by ‘Wii Play’ which falls from No5 to No10. The release of an Xbox 360 version of ‘Call of Juarez’ from Ubisoft shoots it into the All Formats Top 40 for the first time, at No26, while Microsoft’s ‘Tenchu Z’, debuting at No31, makes it 7 new games in the All Formats Top 40 this week.

The new Harry Potter film is not due for release in cinemas until July 12th, but the video game ‘Harry Potter & The Order Of The Phoenix’ is already in its second week at the top of the All Formats Chart, magically holding on to No1 with a 29% rise in sales, despite competition from Nintendo’s ‘More Brain Training from Dr. Kawashima’ which gets its sums right with help from Nicole Kidman, up 3 places from No5 to No2.

In reaching No2 in the All Formats Chart ‘More Brain Training from Dr. Kawashima’ goes one better than its elder brother whose highest All Formats Chart position was No3 (in its third week of release - week 25 2006). Activision reign over the No3 position for a second week with ‘Shrek the Third’ boosted by strong sales of the PS2 version (knocking Potter off top spot in the PS2 Full Price chart). ‘The Darkness’ slips from No2 to No4, but should bounce back at the end of the month when Take 2 release the PS3 version. Capcom’s ‘Resident Evil 4’ falls one place to No5, while ‘Wii Play’ jumps up the chart from No10 to No6. ‘Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas’ is a non-mover at No7, while ‘Forza Motorsport’ slips 2 places to No8. There are now 8 different publishers represented in the All Formats Top 10 with Nintendo the only company with more than one Top 10 game thanks to ‘More Brain Training’, ‘Wii Play’ and the reappearance of the original ‘Dr Kawashima’ in the Top 10, up from No12 to No10.

The only new entry in the All Formats Top 40 is the PS3 ‘Ninja Gaiden: Sigma’ from Eidos at No19 (No2 in the PS3 Chart behind ‘Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas’), one place behind the UK publisher’s ‘Tomb Raider: Anniversary’, which falls one place to No18.

With the latest Harry Potter film now on general release, no surprise then that EA’s ‘Harry Potter & The Order Of The Phoenix’ weaves its spell with a third consecutive week at No1, although sales are down 11% over last week.

Nintendo’s DS ‘More Brain Training from Dr. Kawashima’ (-17%) remains at No2 with Activision holding at No3 for a third week in a row with ‘Shrek The Third’, although sales have dropped 28% from last week’s high point. Nintendo climb 2 places to No4 with ‘Wii Play’, ever the barometer of healthy Wii hardware sales thanks to the inclusion of an essential purchase for Wii gamers - an extra Wii Remote. Nintendo debut at No5 with Wii ‘Mario Party 8’ although with a product recall in progress, it remains to be seen what happens next week to sales and chart position. The only other ‘new’ entry actually debuted the week before, but Midway now break in to the Top 40 with their second DS title (after ‘Happy Feet’ last year) – ‘Touchmaster’ the mini-game puzzler is at No29.

Potter mania continues to gather steam with Harry Potter the film on general release as of 2 weeks ago, joined this week by the Friday 20th July midnight launch of the 7th and final Harry Potter book.

No surprise then that EA’s cinema tie-in ‘Harry Potter & The Order Of The Phoenix’ takes a fourth straight week at No1. Activision’s multi-format ‘Transformers’ debuts strongly at No2 (although snatches No1 on PS2 and 360 Full Price Charts) - with the movie due for release on Friday 27th July all eyes will be on next week’s chart to see if it can topple the mighty Potter. Nintendo ‘brain mania’ is also affecting the charts this week with no less than 3 brain titles in the Top 10 – Nintendo’s recent DS follow-up ‘More Brain Training From Dr Kawashima’ is at No3, new entry at No4 on Wii is ‘Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree’ and the original DS ‘Dr Kawashima’ is at No8. At No6 is Activision’s ‘Shrek The Third’ joined this week by a PSP version and at No7 is Take 2’s ‘The Darkness’, joined this week by a PS3 version which claims No1 on the PS3 chart. Nintendo’s ‘Mario Party 8’ on Wii drops from No5 to No30 as retail awaits new stock of this product.

Potter-mania is replaced by Poke-mania as Nintendo’s hugely successful franchise debuts with DS games ‘Pokemon Diamond’ at No1 and ‘Pokemon Pearl’ at No3. ‘Pokemon Diamond’ becomes the fastest selling DS game as well as the 2nd fastest selling Pokemon game, behind ‘Pokemon Yellow’ on Gameboy Colour which was released over 7 years ago.

Activision’s multi-format ‘Transformers: The Game’ almost spoils Nintendo’s party with the launch of the film helping boost sales by 76%, but failing to catch ‘Pokemon Diamond’ at the top by only 217 units. ‘Transformers: The Game’ remains at No2 in the All Formats Chart and holds on to top spot in the PS2 and Xbox 360 Charts with the PSP version climbing to No1 this week. ‘Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix’ falls from No1 to No4 as sales level out. There are now 4 DS exclusives and 2 Wii exclusives in the All Formats Top 10 (all published by Nintendo) with the remaining 4 Top 10 titles all released across a large number of formats (from publishers Activision and EA). ‘Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree’ proves that brain training is not just a DS phenomenon by increasing sales by 44% on its launch week, but falling one place to No5, while ‘Wii Play’ drops 2 places to No7 despite a rise in sales of 22%. Both brain training DS games continue to sell well despite ‘More Brain Training’ slipping 3 places to No6 and the original dropping one place to No9.

The All Formats Top 10 is rounded off by ‘Shrek the Third’ at No8 and ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07’ at No10, while there are new entries for ‘Rugby 08’ from EA at No22 and Activision’s DS game ‘Transformers: The Game – Autobot’ at No38.

This week Nintendo almost absolutely owns the Top10. Except for Transformers on number 1 and Harry Potter on 4, it's filled with Wii and DS exclusive titles - most of them with the word Brain in the title.

After losing out to Pokemon last week by a tiny margin, Activision’s film tie-in ‘Transformers: The Game’ takes control of top spot in the All Formats Top 40, despite a 10% drop in sales.

Pokemon Diamond’s lustre diminishes with a drop in sales of 20%, having to settle for No2, while sister-title ‘Pokemon Pearl’ manages to hold on to No3. Nintendo again dominates the All Formats Top 10, improving on last week’s 6 games with 7 thanks to the re-launch of ‘Mario Party 8’ at No9. There are now an incredible 8 games in the All Formats Top 10 that are exclusive to Nintendo’s DS and Wii formats thanks to Cooking Mama’s healthy appetite for the Top 10 (up one place to No10). ‘Resident Evil 4’ re-enters the Top 40 at No26 thanks to strong sales of the Wii version, while Sony’s ‘Singstar ‘90s’ is this week’s only Top 40 new entry at No32.

Transformers can change into anything, but this week there is no change for them at the top of the All Formats Chart as ‘Transformers: The Game’ from Activision holds on for a second week.

Both Pokemon games drop 40% in sales, but ‘Pokemon Diamond’ still shines brightest as No2, while ‘Pokemon Pearl’ slips 4 places from No3 to No7. There are still 8 games which are exclusive to Nintendo formats (DS and Wii) in the All Formats Top 10, although ‘Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree’ is expelled from the Top 10, down from No7 to No16, while ‘New Super Mario Bros.’ climbs 2 places, re-entering the Top 10 at No10. ‘Mario Party 8’ is the highest All Formats Top 10 climber, up 4 places to No5 as the Italian plumber notches up 3 Top 40 games (2 of which are in the Top 10). Nintendo’s dominance is further enhanced by this week’s only All Formats Top 40 new entry, ‘Trauma Center: Second Opinion’ on Wii, while Ubisoft’s ‘Surf’s Up’ has a successful 2nd week thanks to the launch of the film, entering the Top 40 for the first time at No11.

Because the first of anything is often associated with something good. There's some deeper psychological explanation, but on our level: "First is best".

There’s no disguising the appeal of ‘Transformers: The Game’ as Activision’s multi-format film tie-in remains at No1 in the All Formats Top 40 for a third consecutive week despite a 15% drop in sales. No change at No1 then, but there is a change this week to the ELSPA/Chart-Track charts with the integration of an Individual Formats Top 40 for both software units and value.

These new charts represent the highest selling games across one individual format and unsurprisingly sees Nintendo the first company to top both charts with ‘Wii Play’ for units and ‘Pokemon Diamond’ for value. There are 16 DS, 10 Wii, 7 PS2, 2 PSP, 2 PS3, 2 Xbox 360 and 1 PC game in the new Individual Formats (Units) Top 40. Nintendo’s formats also continue to enjoy success in the All Formats Chart as ‘Wii Play’ moves up one place to No2, ‘Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training’ is up 5 places to No3 - its highest All Formats chart position ever, equalling its third week of launch when it also reached No3.

‘Pokemon Diamond’ and ‘Pokemon Pearl’ are the only Nintendo games in the All Formats Top 10 to lose sales (both down 20%) with ‘More Brain Training’ down 1 place to No5, but up 6% in sales and ‘New Super Mario Bros.’ holding on to No10 thanks to a 14% jump in sales. Ubisoft break into the Top 10 with ‘Surf’s Up’ riding a wave following the success of the film, up from No11 to No8. There are only 3 games in the All Formats Top 10 that are not exclusive to Nintendo formats and all 3 are film tie-ins (Transformers, Harry Potter and Surf’s Up). THQ have this week’s highest climber with DS game ‘Purr Pals’ entering the All Formats Top 40 for the first time at No18 in its second week. All No1s stay the same except ‘Surf’s Up’ rising to the top of the PS2 budget chart and ‘Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training’ up from No4 to No1 in the DS Chart.
