Wii Sports offers five distinct sports experiences, each using the Wii Remote to provide a natural, intuitive and realistic feel. Players can use their own Mii™ caricatures in the game and play them against their friends’ Miis for a more personalized experience. As players improve, their Miis’ skill levels will increase, so that they can see exactly how much better they’ve become.
* Baseball (1-2 players): Players grip the Wii Remote like a bat and swat fastballs out of the park, or fire a fastball over the plate with a flick of their wrist. Timing and bat speed will make all the difference between going yard and whiffing, so keep an eye on the ball and swing for the fences. In the two-player game, one player pitches and the other bats – all fielding and running is automatic, so that players can focus on the action.
* Boxing (1-2 players): Using the Nunchuk™ controller as one glove and the Wii Remote as the other, players dodge, weave and punch their opponents. Players hold their hands high to guard their faces or low to block their torsos. They punch high to hit their opponents’ faces or low to get under their guard for a body blow. Swing both arms left or right to sidestep oncoming blows and move into position for a devastating knockout.
* Bowling (1-4 players): Players raise the Wii Remote in their hand just like a bowling ball, and then swing their arms to roll the ball. The speed of the swing and the angle at which they release the ball affects the ball’s spin, so it will take some practice to master control over the ball and knock down the pins.
* Golf (1-4 players): Step up to the tee, hold the Wii Remote like a golf club and swing naturally to smack the ball onto the green. The harder players swing the club, the farther the ball will fly. Be careful, though – if players swing too hard, their ball will fly out of control, so they should be sure to take some practice swings before going for the pin. After reaching the green, line up putts carefully, practice the stroke and try to hole out.
* Tennis (1-4 players): Players grab the Wii Remote like a racket and swing – the game registers forehands, backhands, volleys, lobs, slices, spin and power depending on how fast the user swings and at what angle. Don’t worry about moving around the court to get to the ball – the game automatically moves players into position.

It would've been fun if you could move the characters.
As a result Tennis is flawed, Baseball is flawed and Boxing is flawed just because the concept is shit.
Golf could be fun, but I'm guessing the courses will be very limited and the physics even more so.

Mergh, Bowling seems to be the only gaming concept that hasn't been screwed with to make it more simple.
I guess I'll get a few hours out of bowling providing it takes more than 20 minutes to master the art of getting a strike every bowl.

i wont play this game much by my self mostly as a multiplayer exept for gulf mainly (the only fun thing about bowling is changing your friends names to somthing embarassing when there not looking.) and not moving will ruin the others for single player at least maybe the multiplayer it depends on the limit on controlls
not sure about boxing
i wouldn't buy this game if it was'nt free
Nintendo are hoping that this will be wii's Nintendogs or Brain Training but I just don't think it will be very good at all. But who knows? Maybe the casuals will love it.

I never thought of it as a game so much as your own personal tech demo. Just to see what the system can do for you. But I bet with multiplayer, I'll log at least 4 hours on it. Maybe more, if I don't have enough for another game right away.

I think its a cunning way of nintendo encouraging you to buy a second controller. Very clever on a number of business fronts.

I feel nintendo were a touch lazy on this, doesnt super monkey ball have about 10 times as many mini games on it (plus the main game)? Which im sure will cover all the games here. Plus it has monkeys :P

They are?
I don't think so at all, I think it's just a collection of simple games to show what the wiimote is about to new people. I now I've talked about Wii sports tot my parents and they want to play, but if I showed them the nunchuk and the wiimote and started telling them lots of commands and stuff they'd just move away.

Wii Sports = Non Gamer Heaven, and Wii Sports is an ideal game to show the capabilities of the controller. Virtually no learning curve. Think of it as Wiis equivalent to Luigis Mansion in the sense that its just a tech demo, except that with Luigis Mansion, the focus was on the cubes graphical capabilities, and not so much the controller like Wii Sports as Wii Sports certainly isn't a good graphical showcase for the Wii. I would only buy this game if it were $25US.

All reports of Wii Sports have been good. I can't say it's my most anticipated game either, in fact, if it weren't packaged in I probably wouldn't buy it. But I won't dismiss it like a number of people above. I'm sure it will be more fun than you imagine it to be.

I don't think they have given it to us 'free' they would of costed it into the bundle as they know most gamers if given the choice wouldn't buy it.
And for non-gamers they would need a demo of how to get to grips with the controller.
Seems really could demo - shame it hasn't got online hopefully they will patch it

It's not. People just want NintendoConnect24 to be there at launch (WHICH IT WON'T BE)
On another note, if you want to be gay and play Pong online there's a Firefox plugin that allows you to do so.
I really don't think there will be loads of patches in the way you guys are thinking also.
Patches won't be like ones on Steam.. they'll probably be minor bolt on content and expansion packs.
Nothing core to the gameplay experience.

Connect24 isn't online play, Connect24 is the fact that the Wii is connected to the internet 24/7 and can do things whilst it's 'asleep'. It will be there at launch, for the likes of Opera, the news and weather channels.
The Wii could be online at launch... Everything's there - the libraries, the capability in the Wii and all software (Connect 24 and Opera) is included.
The libraries got released too late however and no developer can implement them on time for launch. Only Nintendo 2nd party GameFreak is managing to make Pokemon Battle Revolution online for launch in Japan.

I'll be playing bowling a lot i think, tennis and golf will definitely. I like golf, don't know why. And tennis, ive liked for a while, always wanted to play with my family at these sports, but we never did. now we can. Would be a great thing to do at night. not saying that it will happen, but you could organise a night in your family for aleaderboard, sure this is getting sad but, imagine once a wek or twice a week, your family gets together, spends time together competing against each other to get to the top of the leaderboard of your family in each sport.
meh, I'll have fun wit theh game anyway.

Well I think we cant move them because:
For newcomers, your throwing them in with the nunchuk aswell as the wiimote, all of the games on wiisports dont use the nuchuk, why should this one.
Another I jsut thought, You don't really move yourself with an analoue controller, maybe its to make it more realistic, so you can jsut focus on hitting the ball back at your oppenent without worrying if your in the right position to hit it back, which linked to my first idea woudl get a bit confusing to newcomers in the eyes of Nintendo.

I think this title is another one of those things that Nintendo will mess up. I reckon it's a great idea, and I actually think the simple and stylized graphics suit it.
But I'm worried that the fact that you can't move the character in Tennis is just silly. And secondly the fact that it WON'T be online is another major downer. All the games look great fun and are all games that have great multiplayer potential.
It's a fantastic idea, and I reckon it's fantastic that it comes packaged with the Wii to show off the features of the Wii-mote, but to not carry it through to it's full potential is a great shame.
It would've been fun if you could move the characters.

It seems to me that you're missing the entire point of the game. Wii Sports is supposed to be a selection of simple sports games that anybody can control and enjoy - Whilst we may find using the wiimote and the analogue stick to play tennis quite easy you can guarantee most people won't.
I have no doubt that full in depth simulations with full controls will come - I expect within a year we'll see Tiger Woods, Virtua Tennis, Mario Tennis, Fight Night amongst others which offer the depth you seem to want and those will be full price games. Wii Sports isn't that kind of game though and its never been pitched as that yet I'm sure it will be the kind of game that is highly entertaining in short doses and will be a great party game and thats precisely what its meant to be.

Nintendo should have 'DS adverts' in their games too.
The 'adverts' seen in that Table Tennis pic have become all too common in Mario tennis and such. Should advertise related games, like advertising Mario Golf in Mario Tennis maybe?? etc etc. Having the Camelot logo, not just Nintendo etc etc.
Looks like it will be fun with a few mates for a while. It's just supposed to be a fun simple game to show people what the Wii remote can do and how easy it is to use. I'm sure someone will bring out a realistic tennis sim sometime. One where you actually control the player with the nunchuck.

Isn't that to do with the publisher as all my Nintendo DS games are green while Ubisoft's is pink.

You talking about the green corner?
Isn't that to do with the publisher as all my Nintendo DS games are green while Ubisoft's is pink. No, it's a code to know where the game is from; where it's intended to go on sale, UK covers have it green. When it's a English and other language covers it's pink, when it's Spanish it's a ligher pink tone and when it's italian it's red. This talking about GC games.
We also got a custom cover for games such as RE4, the thing is... since we are not a official NoE territory we don't have a color, thus... although our cover is equal to yours, since you're the only ones obliged to do "15" and "18" ratings by BBFO instead of PEGI (for the rest of europe) we got a custom cover with PEGI's 18+ (that's the only diference) and it has the pink side-label instead of green.
The portuguese cover (rare stuff) for mario kart DS... it's yellow, but since MGS:TTS on GC is also yellow (and it's english only) I guess it's used in certain circuntances (not our color).
DS games with german, portuguese and french on the cover... are brown.

I hope the spines aren't always just going to be white.Me too, that's just plain, PS2'ish... GC was so much better on that (on the covers that used it).
I don't think there's anything wrong with the spine. DS games are just about the same (plain white, DS logo and game title).
Other game cases, such as American cases, have got artwork on them. The only European DS game I've got that has artwork on it is Sonic Rush, and I've got way too many DS games...
I've got two European games with artwork: Phoenix Wright and Bomberman.

It's more of a Metroid Prime Hunters demo than what Brain Trainer and Nintendogs will do.
Expect Nintendogs Wii and Brain Academy Wii to do that job.
For me this is no more than a demo, it'll be fun for a couple of hours before you realise that you've mastered how to get a home run every time and win against the others.

But if it's as accurate as they say then you could never truly 'master' it, that's like saying you'll get a strike every time you bowl 'cause you know how and where to bowl!! To replicate button pressing is easy, yo replicar whole arm motion is nigh on impossible!!

I've read coments from people whove played Baseball saying that it doesn't take long to get a home run every time.

I was thinking that too. The sensor bar supposedly can measure the speed of your swing or how hard your 'rolling' the ball. Throw in hooking and slicing and youve got a hard game to master. Its got lots of potential. I wonder if you throw more damaging punches in Wii Boxing depending on how hard you jab the Wiimote

Expect Nintendogs Wii and Brain Academy Wii to do that job.
I don't think Nintendogs would be successful on the Wii. I think the only reason it made so many people buy it on DS was because its portable and you can take it with you. I don't think people would want to turn on a Wii just to play with a dog. And also the price...what was it like £110 for the DS with Nintendogs? It's going to be more like £200 for a Wii with nintendogs.
Aaaannndd on a sort of related topic...I don't think games which worked well on the DS will work so well on the Wii. I haven't played so I can't comment but I don't think Trauma centre will be that good...it'll be like performing an oporation from a distance.
They should make a DS to Wii adapter (or wireless) where you can use your DS screen to control the game but the output appear on the Wii screen...again this would kinda be weird cus you'd need to look at your DS and TV screen at the same time.

I'm actually quite excited about Wii Sports because it looks quite... fun. It is in no way going to eclipse LoZ or SMB, but I'll probably play it with friends a fair bit.

QFT, although I will be getting one with Wii Play. I'm gonna have to get another 2 wiimotes for this game, a great party game this would be.
I am really excited about Wii sports. That image above has boosted my expectance of it. The graphics look lovely, nice and bright.

A bit surprised to see so many downers about Wii sports here. Personally, I'm looking forward to it.
In a long run it'll probably become the "Luigi's Mansion" of Wii where we say it was fun while it lasted and it was a good "Welcome to Wii!" game. But I think it's important to bear in mind that playing experience is the key here and I reckon I will have lots of fun with it from time to time.
I certainly wouldn't diss this just because you can't move the characters. That's just kind of missing the point really. If it manages to be enjoyable, they can peg down the characters half way down the earth for all I care. This isn't trying to become the next Microsoft Flight Simulator.

To Phube- Matt's been playing this a fair bit over the Summer and he's pretty much mastered everything except Bowling.
All the other games are too helpful, you could have to be either armless or mentally handicapped to not master the other games in a short period of time.
I'm still hyped for bowling because if it's hard (and scoreboards indicate this for sure) then I'll play it.

Nintendodrk are you joking? If you've been paying as much attention to IGN's coverage as you make out you'll find that they HAVE mastered bowling, so much in fact they can get a strike every time as they've found the 'cheat'!!
I think this game will be good fun for a while, good in multiplayer and an absolute cert for getting non-gamers to play Wii - genius freebie by Nintendo!

QFT. I will invie some of my friends, who will buy this probably at christmas, and itll be a great party game. Just at golf punching him in the side so he misses a shot. Hitting each other over the head in tennis.
tripping people up while bowling. Wii play will add to this.
All this without getting drunk, just physically agressive :D

If you mean the playtest they did a few months back, that 'cheat' was gonna be fixed by Nintendo.

and here's the quote with the important stuff in bold:
Another hotseat game is Wii Bowling, the game we managed to "break" at the Nintendo Wii Launch Party in September. The game is meant to simulate the swing of the ball as you approach the lane, taking remote speed as power and the angle of the swing as curve. But we managed to figure the "exploit" where lining up on the second dot from the right and simply "whipping" the ball quickly will be a perfect shot every time. Unfortunately it doesn't look like this was fixed, as the strikes flowed from our hands right away using this knowledge. Don't tell your parents about it and you'll be fine...otherwise it's going to be mere minutes on the messageboards between the launch of the Wii system and the first perfect 300 score.

Cheating at the end of the day is just cheating yourself.
You can cheat Brain Training in a few hours to lowering your Brain Age to 18/20 (whichever is lowest)
But by doing that you're voiding the scientific basis of the game.. and really are cheating yourself.
I would consider any bowling cheat to be banned from my Wii and would also expect Nintendo to thoroughly check a game for flaws after Mario Kart DS has all that snaking crap.
It could have easily been resolved by having a boost limit on each track which removes unreasonable boosting on straights.
It's debateable which is intended by designers.. and what is cheating.

yeah have to agree, i was expecting scores around 7/7.0/70% at the end of the day there really isnt much to it. I can imagine playing it quite abit at launch but after that it will be only be dipped in and out of very occasionally.
