There hasn't been much hype on this game, but I'm definately looking forward to it. I never got to play the original. What did you people think of it? How similar is it compared to Paper Mario? I loved the paper mario games and heres hoping that this could be even better :hehe:!!!!!! Hopefully, depending on reviews, this could make my christmas wish list, along with Tony Hawks and Mario Kart! Hype away my fellow gamers!

Anyone who hasn't got Superstar Saga I recommend you to get it now!
It's fantastic, anyone who likes SMRPG/Paper Mario 1 or 2 will adore it. I wonder when this is coming out? I doubt we'll see it till early next year. The boxart is so sexy though:heh:

Superstar Saga was brilliant. I totally loved the whole game.
If this next installlment is anything like Superstar Saga/Paper Mario 2 then I don't doubt for one second that this game will be anything but great.

I heard that there might even be an online mode in this game! If not, it was multiplayer...and I heard it will be out in America at the end of this year so I might have to import. Was that Baby Peach in the Boxart? Nintendo just keep thinking of more characters! Whats next, Baby Waluigi??? :D
What also intrigues me about this game is the fact that you must use to screens simultaneously, using mario+luigi and then their baby versions. Seems this could be the perfect multiplayer game! And oh yeh, I just ordered superstar saga! woot
Superstar Saga was one of the best - and funniest - games on the GBA, so I'm really looking forward to this. Such a shame that it's not coming out this side of Christmas over here.

Yeah I completely agree. With the first Mario and Luigi game, many people ( including myself) were reluctant to buy it but since it did so well, im definately getting this one. It's just a shame that there hasn't been mnay updates to it, because E3 was the last I heard of it :wtf: Hopefully Nintendo will give us some info soon.

E3 was the only time anything has been said about it apart from the boxart. Here's soping that Nintendo will just pull this one out of there pockets are screa "it's finished!" and I will import it straight away.

I think it's cool that the use the babies for X and Y(you could think the DS was made for this game.

The more I'm hearing about this game the more it interests me! How do the battles take place? I heard its not like the ones on Paper Mario? Can anyone explain, cos I'm really considering getting it atm.
In other news, I heard it's coming out 11th November in America, and as its an RPG, i guess we can expect a January release here in Europe!

Everyone who is wondering how it plays GET SUPERSTAR SAGA NOW!
It's fantastic, and i'm sure you'll find it cheap somewhere. I'm sure Partners in Time will play very similarly.

I own the first one but I haven't touched it yet (I got it for my sister but she didn't really like it...neither of us are into RPGs, but I can tollerate a good one every now and then). I plan on playing it sometime in October to see if the sequil would be intresting to me.
The only thing about it is, Nintendo is so hush on it.. you think it'd be one of their bigger games of the fall.. maybe they're downplaying it because it's not as great as we all hope?

Japanese don´t celebrate christmas like we do. Usually, game sales are HUGE before christmas but they are also pretty big before and after new year.

(Just noticed Stocka also put this info in the DS Rumble Pack for Metroid Pinball thread)
It's just been confirmed that this game will also support the DS's Rumble Pack!!
www.cubed3.com
"Quick News: Metroid Pinball isn't the only title to vibrate to. For those who prefer a little male action, Nintendo have also confirmed this week that the upcoming Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time will feature rumble support via the DS rumble pack. What focus this will provide to the hotly anticipated title isn't clear though expect interesting sensations from the two plumbers."
http://www.cubed3.com/news/4407
Interesting huh, I wonder how?
It will probably just be like the rumble pack in any action game, such as a rumble when you perform a powerful attack, or there is an explosion etc..
but great news, as it helps to immerse you in the game even more!

New facts:
- In this sequel to Mario & LuigiTM: Superstar Saga, the Mario bros. team up with their young selves on a quest of lunatic proportions. Control both sets of bros. to explore the very fabric of time and take on an evil alien entity known as the Shroobs.
- Duke it out with crazy foes using the celebrated fast-action battle system unique to Mario & Luigi games. Dodge enemy attacks individually, then use items like the Trampoline and Cannonballer to team up all four bros. for super moves.
- The second screen will quickly become the players' best friend as they use it to study the land, keep track of the pair of bros. not under their control and even maximize combo moves in battle.

Awesome! Modojo.com has reviewed the game and it got 5 stars out of 5.
Some quotes from the text:
"Ah, yes. I desire someone, or something, bring me the chocolate cake. That, or a copy of Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. Why? Because the game is awesome. Damn awesome. Better than chocolate cake awesome."
"The dual screen integration shines in this title like few other DS games before it. You use no stylus - both screens are for gameplay, interface, and cinematic purposes. It's actually an amazing testament to the design team; you hear so many complaints about half-assed touch screen implementation in other DS games, but here Alphadream ditched all that jazz. What you have with Partners In Time is a no-nonsense title on some unique hardware that knows exactly where its strength's lie."
"Ok, I should stop gushing. I mean, one could almost see Nintendo's hand up my ass as I ramble on and about why this game is so incredible, but who cares. This is an incredibly well done piece. If you own a Nintendo DS, there is no excuse for not checking out Partners In Time. That's not a guarantee that it's a game for everyone, but rather a big fat A+ for Alphadream when it comes to Advanced Game Design. This game is the cream of the portable gaming crop, and you'll be really hard-ressed not to be taken in by at least one of it's plentiful charms."

I loved the first, though never finished due to my brother getting too far.(It seems pointless to finish a game when a sibling of yours already does, like RE4 for me, it always happens with the games I buy). This should be good, it's pretty much number. 1 on the import list for me.

So its getting up around the 90% mark then, thats good enough. I wonder whats kept it back from getting up there at the 95% area though.
Anyway after taking into the first one again I got it completed today. It was great fun except the swimming bits... but swimming levels are the bane of most my gaming experiences. The only thing I would have liked though would have been a bit more of an ending, story wise. I can hardly fault it though and it was lovely to see the Thank You For Playing coming up... no need to thank me, it was a pleasure to play!
Im not sure if Im looking forward with superly high anticipation for Partners in Time but once I get a break from RPGs for a month or that (Baten Kaitos for Chrimbo lol) Ill be raring to go again once February comes round again.

Gaming-Age forums have pointed to a Japanese-language interview with Alpha Dream, the developers of Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time for DS, via the Official Nintendo Online Magazine website. Fortunately, the particularly choice part of the interview is visual - a snapshot of Alpha Dream's 'development DS' which the team concocted before the real Nintendo DS hardware was available.

The game rocks, i haven't played that much off it, seeing as i have my 360 and other games (completing the two thrones for example) but it just feels like older Nintendo which we all love, a true Ninty adventure!
I am finding using Mario and Luigi, Baby Mario and Luigi a little confusing though...

Argh :hmm:well my parents told me last night we are going on holiday in my half term in early February (and of course I was pleased and suprised etc.)
A few minutes later I then thought about Partners in Time, and how it'll be great as I'll be able to play it on holiday...so I asked my mum when we are leaving, and she said Thursday 9th February! I know the game is out on the 10th, but i've pre ordered from Gameplay.co.uk so I should get it on the thursday...the problem is we are leaving the house at 10am, so I am SO hoping it gets through the post in time, it usually comes like 11ish though :red:
So depending on the Royal Mail I'll either get it just in time to take on holiday, or they'll come just after I leave and won't be able to play it till I come back a week later.

Well, I don't want to set anyone up for a disappointment, but it has that feel-good feel to it. Good for giggles. The battle system has a smaller emphasis on strategy and more on proper timing. So you either dodge all attacks, or get confused and get a smacking. I haven't played the original, but I don't feel like I'm missing on anything while playing this.
I'll just say that if you think you could see yourself enjoying this game, you most definately will.

I can see the four player thing getting very confusing in battle!Yeah, the button combinations can get quite intense with the special moves like the Green Shell and Cannonballer. I much prefer having a system like this though rather than a boring choose a move and just watch it happen style game play, you're so much more involved with the battles when you have to perfectly time the attacks.
I've played for just over an hour and it's totally great! I really do think it is the greatest RPG battle system ever made!

It is a really great game but I prefer the GBA version. I mean I loved to walk around, find new stuff and just explore everything but now everything starts at the castle and that is a bit boring in my eyes. I also believe that the NDS game is a bit easier. I am near the end and I think I had to use about 2 1UP mushrooms.
Jordan
10-02-2006, 04:27 PM
The game is MILES easier now that you have a map though. Before you actually had the explore and use spacial awareness. Now.. you just have to follow the top screen.
Yeah it is easier but you've gotta love the dual screen use. It's brilliant when you have the babies on top and the oldies on the bottom.

I know your on holiday but I will still post this. You have to be kidding right? I have just beat the last boss from the first game and I didnt even have to heal once. I was level 42 with both bros. and just had them both equp the Mushroom AA badge. I then bought 99 of each mushroom and hey presto the Last boss was dead in a few rounds.
Now on to Mario and Luigi: PIT.
I also found the last boss on Superstar Saga really hard. It took me five or six attempts, if my memory serves me correctly, and each attempt lasted about 25-30 mins.
I'm really enjoying Partners In Time so far, and I'm around ten hours into it. It definitely doesn't feel as good as Superstar Saga, though. The script's not as funny, it's more linear, and the gobbledegook conversations between the bros, which were great in the first one, are just the same old same old in this. Still good fun, though.

I forgot about my copy that I reserved. I was under the impression it was coming on Jan. 27 in Ireland, as Nintendo told me, but nope, that Nintendo retard told me a lie. Heh, didn't realise I was meant to get it until I looked at the last cover of NOM.
It's a good game, but the American English bothers me. I would think they'd at least put a "u" in "colour", but nope, it's still "color". Laziness, it would've only taken a few hours to correct the simple differences.
The game is a little easy I think, I was always stuck on Superstar Saga, but the map makes it far too easy. ><. I'm still not used to using X and Y for the babies, espcially when they're seperated, I keep pressing A and B.

Although I dont think I really got stuck in the main game of Superstar Saga I did enjoy just walking around the map and having to find my own way around. I have been playing this one for a couple of hours and so far I have been guided the whole way. Im hoping this changes later in the game. Oh and yes I too keep pressing the A and B buttons when im seperated.

Is that the one with the Yoshi eggs? I've lost count already. :heh:
Anyway, I've not had any problems so far. I use the Cannonballer for the bosses because it seems to do the most damage, especially if you get lucky hits!
That wasn't the one I meant actually, I've only just done that one. I should have said 2nd shard, it was the big red thing, I've forgotten already. Anyway the Yoshi boss was a lot more fun, the other just seemed to drag.
I've played for almost 7 hours now, I like the new moves they've added to this one.

I was on this for a while yesterday and I have just finished the Yoshis island Area. Does anyone else miss the Bros. moves from the first game? Sure the items are alright and all but the amount you get off enemies and in blocks is making it very easy. Also im starting to get the hang of the controls as I dont seem to be pressing the wrong ones now.

About 14 hours in. 2 of those hours wasted on leaving it down to use the computer and such.
Mrs. Thwomp has to be the worst battle ever, it took me over an hour to beat her. I didn't die or anything, it's just that she takes a very long time to die. And there's a 25% chance you won't even hit the right one when she splits up (The only time she can actually be hurt). I got 90-something Fire and Ice flowers from smashing her boulders though.
I'm at the end of the volcano, and this boss is incredibly evil, you can be dead in two hits.
I'm probably going to stop playing this for a while, this in turn, making me not complete it so fast. I want it to last the Mid-Term =/.

I have noticed this with all the bosses so far. The attacks are easy to avoid but they must have godly HP as they all take ages to beat.

Ugh, turns out the volcano boss was easy, or I got lucky. Usually he'd get nearly 10 attacks in every turn ._. .
Though, after beating him, I move on to the mothership only to find, I can't even beat the shrooboids there. Seriously, there's five of them, they all take a while to die, and if they hit you you lose nearly 20 HP.

30? That's kind of steep. I'm guessing 16 is below par by the time you get to toadstown (or whatever it's called). I seem to have a lot more difficulty with enemies. Better go Level up a few before I progress any further.

They say that if you kill every enemy you encounter you wont be far off that. Im on lvl 15 now and I have just entered the desert area.
I've just got to Thwomp Volcano and I've been on for 8hrs 40mins. I'm at level 18/19 and I've been killing every enemy I have came across.
It's a quality game so far although it isn't as good as Super Star Saga. The Bros. Moves aren't really that good I'm just using the cannon one on every boss as it does the most damage and it's easy to use. My hands hurt now from holding the DS for so long.

Played through and completed it: 21 hours, all beans, lvl 27(all).
Was highly enjoyable however I preferred M&L:SS, the story on M&S:PiT seemed a bit stitched together... like they were just making it up as they went through the game instead of planning beforehand.
Was a little disappointed at not being able to visit different areas within the present.
But other than the issues I mentioned, Id still recommend people who haven’t tried it give it a go.

Hey all (just got back from holiday)
I been playing it quite a bit over the last week(about 11 hours in) and am really enjoying it. Not as good as the first one, but then again I didn't expect it to be.
Like Jordan said though, it just dungeon after dungeon and then back to the castle, towns are needed in RPGs to break it up and make it a more relaxing experience.
The battle system is fantastic imo, but yeah some boss fights are lame.
So far I've actually laughed more than the first one[not much], its pretty damm funny at times.

Ah, welcome back Stocka, I assume the holiday was well.
I got this last Friday, and recently completed it. I wasn't expecting for it to be as short as what it was to be honest. It was easier than the last game too. The game did give me a few laughs, which can only be a good thing. Also, they've fixed Bowser's sprite, which looked awful in the previous version. Anyway, that's enough chatter from me I think :heh:.

Yup thats pretty much what has happened. Problem is they messed with the formula. Instead of just creating a new story and keep the map system the same they now guide you through the whole game making it incredibly linear.
Still its worth picking up if your a fan of the Paper Marios and the first game.

The game was a lot of fun, but there was something definitely missing.
Was far too linear.
Was too easy.
Was too short, bought it on Thursday, felt a little annoyed when I finished it on Monday, and I feel no desire to go back and collect all the beans.
Hope that should they do another one they try combining the best ideas from the first two, like the bros moves, and a free roaming world rather than just a hub that lead to all the levels. The baby bros. were used really well at times though, and would love to see them appear in any sequel.
Hero-of-Time
18-02-2006, 08:20 AM
I have just finished the Shroom Flying Saucer. For some reason I cant play long stints on the game I usually do like 1 section of the map and then save it.
I completed the game last night, after just over 19 hours of game time (and 97 beans collected). Just like in Superstar Saga, the last boss took me absolutely ages to beat (at least an hour and a half, I'd say, counting all her forms), but at least I managed to beat her on my first try, thanks to all the mushrooms, ultra drops and refreshing herbs I had. I expect I would have completed it sooner if I'd brought more trampolines and cannonballers, and if I'd worked out exactly what to do to beat her last form sooner, though.
Overall, I really enjoyed the game, and there were some great new additions, like the babies and the bros items. Like many people have said, though, it did feel far too linear, and it just wasn't as funny as Superstar Saga. There were loads of hilarious characters in that, but in Partners In Time, the only character to really make me laugh was Luigi. And on the subject of characters, there seemed to be far fewer cameos from Nintendo characters in this one, too. I would have loved to have seen Baby Wario and Baby Waluigi.
Still, this game was definitely worth getting, and I'd recommend it to any DS owner who hasn't tried it yet.

Well I have just finished the game. All my characters were level 29 as I hardly missed an enemy fight. My final time was 17:18 and i had just over 10000 coins.
Im a big RPG fan and I have to say that I have never found a boss so irritating. I have played most the Final Fantasy games and I always beat the sidequests which usually have uber powered bosses and even them bosses werent as annoying. The thing is the last boss is hard at all. Sure I got killed in battle but I had MORE than enough mushrooms to win easily. The fact is the boss just has too much life. I was doing near enough 300 damage with each bro and still it took ages.
Well its all over and done now and I have to say its the worst of the Mario RPG family. I did enjoy the ending though.....
GigaPlay
18-02-2006, 08:40 PM
The last boss was quite annoying. She could get an attack in when ever she felt, and sometimes they were just impossible to dodge. All the targets grew back nearly instantly, so you could hardly ever get any real damage on her. Good thing I hadthe Ulti-Free Badge so I used loads of Mix Flowers.
Only read if you beat her:
The very very last boss, bowser with Princess Shroob's spirit is the easiest in the whole game. Though, after the pain of the last boss, I guess they had to lighten up.
I finished at Level 31, as I'd kept trying to kill enemies and such in the castle.
The game was great, but it is nothing to the original, or Paper Mario. Having never played Super Mario RPG, I wouldn't know. But then again, quite a few of us haven't, because we're European.
Come to think of it, I'm going to have a hard time going back to the simple A and B original. This always happens, I can no longer live without the addition. Like with the babies, I tried to play Superstar Saga, but the babies aren't there. *sniff*

Despite the critisism and although I agree it is the worst of the Mario RPG series, you have to bear in mind how high the standard is, and when you look at it in general its still a damm great game.

It is a good game to play but I hate the way they changed the way you play it. Changing the map system was the worst idea they came up with, hopefully they return to th eroam-based system if they make a third part.
Im also quite shocked how high a score this game got. Most places gave it at least 9/10 or 90% which is pretty generous in my eyes. Many games get slated for being liner, easy and too short and M+L:PiT was all of these and yet managed to get great reviews all round.
At least other people are enjoying it though and aslong as you do then dont worry about my comments.

Ok I think I made a big mistake and now I've got no idea what to do.
After finishing the Star Hill boss I didn't pay that much attention to the story as I couldn't wait to turn the DS off after it having taken so long. So I go on it again today and go down the path west, see there's a warp pipe and off I go into the present.
After wandering around for ages I decided to look at an FAQ as there didn't seem to be anything to do, and it now looks like I should have gone to a shrine instead? How on earth do I get back there? It just looks like I'm stuck forever now.
