View Full Version : Nintendogs UK hype!

Stocka

So does everyone expect it to be pretty big here? Theres been articles in newspapers, loads of promotion in shops, and advertising on a dog show on channel 4, and Nintendo are expecting it to really take off.
Will it? I hope so, but for it to do so Nintendo need to start advertising it on Tv NOW! itv, mtc, sky one, channels like that need to be full of Nintendog's adverts and its guaranteed to be a winner in sales. Launch is on friday and theres been no ads yet. If anyone sees or hears about anything to do with 'Nintendogs hype' then discuss here, it should be an interesting next week. I'm sure the bundles will do very well too.

Oh and check this out:
Nintendo seem determined to make Nintendogs the number one game this Christmas in the UK, and to further reinforce why everyone should be buying this game, HMV on Oxford Street, London’s shopping capital, will be opening early for loads of fun, doggie style!

On Friday 7th October, HMV will be opening its doors early, the first 50 people to buy a copy of the game will get a second copy free and an exclusive ‘Doggy Bag’ including another free Nintendo DS game and some ‘doggy treats’.
http://www.cubed3.com/news/4371
How lucky is that! its like getting 3 DS games for the price of 1 + doggy stuff!

Anyway, keep all the hype in here guys :heh: (and girls of course)

I'm happy for u guys. The guy in one of belgian's so called definite gameshop (gamemania) hardly knew it was coming out :s So something like that doggiebag is absolutely out of the question here.

I expect Nintendogs to do quite good in Europe, but I think it's mostly going to be a game children and teenagers buy, because of Europe's 'image problem' most of the youngsters have (eg. psp, gta, blablabla etc, you know what I mean)

I haven't seen any ads for it yet, and I don't intend to buy it myself :-p

I just know it'll be like Animal Crossing where you play it for a few days, get really engrossed unlocking stuff, then stop playing it and realise it's all just a wee bit pointless. At least I managed to sell AC for £60 back in the days before it got a UK launch (I never really understood the hype and the demand for a European release, tbh).

I prefer my games to have more tight story or progression, like RPGs or Arcade Racers.

I've seen the Advert TWICE today!! It does the start up DS Ding thing at the start; they should do that for ALL DS TV Ads. It caught my attention before the advert actually strated properly, heheh!!

Aint gonna get the game myself, but i hope it does well!!

The advert was on today during the break in The Simpsons on channel 4 today. It's the first time I've seen it, and it was okay - got the concept across and wasn't too kiddy or trying to be 'cool'.

Yeah...I was suprised. It wasn't great, but it also wasn't crap like most Nintendo ads, so I was happy with it.

I'd agree with that. To be honest I expected the ads to be very kiddy and obviously targeted at the young kids, like the ads i've seen on the net (were they the american ones?).

I hope they get some good play on the telly this week and next.

In other related news... I got rather excited at work this weekend cause I caught a glimpse of a few copies in the stockroom and ended up reading the packaging while i was supposed to be at work. :D

I completely agree that even though nintendogs is a great game, it can get abit boring in the long run. I brought the game last week and justs sold it for £22. It's a shame because it's a very good game and I suggest everyone gets it, but it gets annoying when your dogs can walk a longgggg way becuase it takes sooooo much! But yeh, its cute and in reply to Stocka, I think it will sell buckets loads in europe. I took it to Gamestation and 3 or 4 workers asked me to play it to em! :awesome: Once again Nintendo shows that it appeals to all!

This game will bring my DS back to life. Haven't played on my DS for ages, haven't been impressed with the recent releases, other than the most recent and I've been too skint to buy anything.

I need to scrounge another £9 from somewhere, and then I can get it.

IS this 3 games deal for all HMV's in UK? It doesn't specify any specific ones as far as I can see. Also what time does it open? I'll be getting it, hopefully with the 2 free games.

Edit: I realy didn't look hard did I?

Nintendogs is a great game and I advise everyone to ATLEAST try it. Just don't play on it too much because your dogs get a little tired  . I found it to be good when i had another game to play in between walks and feedings (in my case Advance Wars).

I'd like to see the advert for this - shame I don't really watch enough TV to be able to catch it. I'd be surprised if this did as well here as it did in Japan and America, but I'm sure the advertising and positive articles in the press should ensure a small-scale success, at least. To be honest, I think Mario Kart will do better.

I saw an advert for it today during The Simpsons!! Great time!!

I thought the advert was really good; maybe a bit more ingame and explaination about the game would have been better;
It spent quite a while showing really cute puppies playing in the garden etc... which is bound to grab peoples attention, before the advert showed the game; which i thought was a good idea!

And it also advertised Nintendogs with a DS for £99.99!! BARGAIN!

I also like the new style of adverts; opening with the DS duel screen logos and a chime, and ending with "Open up and play!"

Cool, I haven't seen the adverts (don't watch tv at all) but next time I'm sure to tune into the simpsons on channel 4 or even, hopefully nintendo.co.uk have the videos for me to watch.

Anyway, I have mine preordered from gameplay.co.uk so hopefully I shall get it 1 day early if not then on release date. I can't wait to show it off to my mates. lol

I get no pleasure in saying it but, IMHO, I don't think Nintendogs will be ripping up any trees (or should that be pissing up?) in the UK.

I really, really hope I'm wrong cos without it the DS is starting to look like a dead duck (PSP is just shy of 250K units in UK in 4 weeks) in this country.

Has anyone been listening to Radio 1 today?

They have been talking about Nintendogs launch in every news section!!

They've been letting people know it is launching tomorrow and it's price,
saying how it sold amazingly well in the US and Japan and that the same is expected here,
and how Nintendogs has also helped the DS outsell the PSP around the world!
and how it's a inspirational game that helps widen the gaming audience,

and that it is "a christmas gaming must have"!

They've been getting reaction from the public aswell as thoughts about the game from Nintendo etc...

They've also been talking about the games features and that it's Wi-Fi enabled; and that if someone else with the game is close by, their dog will appear on your screen!

It's really getting the message across!

Wait wait wait.

THE BBC ARE GIVING IT GOOD MEDIA ATTENTION? WHAT THE HELL?
I mean, the BBC online review tried to put it down as much as they can, they refer to the PSP whenever they can and it's 4 day sale figures, and only cover Nintendo if they can put them down at the end of it!

WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO!

Yes, it has helped DS alot, but I realy dont think Nintendogs success wont last that long now, since the new Grand theft auto is out later this month, and before you moan and say but nintendogs owns GTA, think again, GTA has a much larger fan base.

But, back on topic, I cant wait for Nintendogs tommorow, got Daschund and friends, I want a siberian husky for a starter =P Congrats to Nintendo for actualy getting a big public reaction!

Oh and back off topic, I just realised how screwed over sony have gotten themselves, They wont be having any more shipments to europe of PSP's for quite a while, and with the mass majority of people i know planning to buy a PSP on the day of the release, they are going to be very dissapointed.

Sorry for going off topic quite alot, but I do think at some point Sony will bite back at Nintendogs success.

FACT: BBC games section is written by non-gamers, just like the vast majority of tabloid press sections.
