I looked at it in smiths. It was very short, and really only covered all time classics in terms of anime and manga. Very little of it was anything new. I think it was either this or Neo mag had a dvd with something to do with red steel on it, maybe a possible manga/ anime.
I've read a few issues of Neo, and it's quite good but not wonderful. There are too many interviews with Japanese transexuals and the like.

I was thinking about buying Neo a few weeks ago but I went with the SFX Anime Special instead as im used to their normal mag.

I expect i'll get that Manga Force whenever its got a movie that I dont own but that'll be it, and yes I was annoyed when I saw it was named Manga aswell. Its amazing only a few years ago I used to call anime manga aswell but now it annoys the hell out of me.

Anyway for £9 it's not bad but I wonder what they will do for Neon Genesis Evagelion. They have it listed but I doubt they will out the whole series out so it must be one of the movies.

Anyways, Winter 2007 is way too far away. I don't want to wish a whole year of my life away faster, I may have less than 50 of them left! For now I'll be happy with wanting January 10th (Bleach) and February 15th (Naruto) to hurry up :grin:

Yeah I knew it was named after the Manga Entertainment company, but as Supergrunch said they've got a stupid name too. They could pass off their company name with a simple explanation, but instead they try to make out that anime=manga. I've met plenty of people who don't realise manga means book material and not just another word for Japanese animation, mostly thanks to that very company.
The worst person like that was this girl I met who was like "Do you like manga videos? I love watching manga videos on youtube!". So I said "Do you mean anime?" and she said "Yeah, I guess you could call it that...".

Oh well, I suppose it's better than "cartoon porn", which is what 90% of my friends call anime... :heh:

One of my friends said, in English when discussing movies we liked "yeah, I'm into really abstract stuff, I like weird movies, sci fi, and I'm also into that japanese manga and hentai".

Someone else in the class actually turned to him and said "dude, that's cartoon porn", which I found funny.

Just watched the first live action Death Note movie. If anyone wants to watch it and see no spoilers whatsoever from the anime, watch it after episode 12 (most recent episode).

The movie was pretty damn good IMO. The ending disappointed me a little, they really changed the part with Naomi, and up until that point it had been very faithful. Also by making Light already at Uni, they took away the possibility of one of my favourite scenes from the anime, L and Light's first meeting at the freshmen induction. Ryuk looked awesome even though the CG wasn't amazing itself.

To all those who have Naruto 1:2

Just out of curiosity, do any of the 3 dvd's you got have an option for special features? Its usually on disc three, but when I load it into my DVD player, it doesnt show an option to go there. It states on the box too that there are special features, but im starting to think Manga screwed up abit.

Can't find the special features either... although the trailers are on disk 2. Mine also didn't come with the episode guide book, did yours have that? Might just return mine or sell them on ebay and import the American box sets instead....

I just emailed manga and accused them of false advertising, since the box says it contains "anime to manga transition" feature and "textless opening and ending" :D says they respond in three days.

In the meantime... looking at the American ones on ebay. Only problem I have with the American ones is the boxes are huge! What's that gonna be like after hundreds of episodes http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/2884/argwq0.gif I'd need a whole shelf for one series.

Arggh, they're nearly all awful! All the Mikuru choices bite, why do dubbed cute females always sound so damn pretentious? You can never believe a single character even for a second. That poll needs an option: "They all suck". The second Yuki isn't too bad, and it's hard to decide between 1, 4 and 5 for Koizumi... but. Bleh! If they screw up Mikuru I'll be annoyed. Actually I won't care that much because I'll still watch the subtitled ones, but still! *angry face*

The point is, and this is my opinion, Animes that are set in Japan, will always sound stupid if dubbed into any other language, kinda like the dubbed Jackie Chan Hong Kong films.
Agreed, and they always sound worst when they have to say Japanese names in painfully American accents. Even if they know not to put the emphasis on the second syllable, it still sounds off. The only anime dubs I ever liked were Trigun and Evangelion, and that's partly because I watched those series so long ago, and several times, before I was into anime enough to consider listening to the Japanese first.

I've been reading the death note manga, and something very disappointing happens halfway through volume 7. I think other manga readers will know what I mean...

I just got the second half of the manga series, and I have to agree. Incredibly dissapointing.

Dubs = pain, in its purest form.

American ones are the worst... If you've heard the Mai-HiME dub, they made Shizuru Texan... British might have worked, but that just sounded awful. Plus as Shorty said, they always pronouce all the words wrong.

I tend to usually listen to anime with dubs on, simply because a lot of the time I watch dvds when im doing things on the computer so I just dont have the time to be reading subs.

I have absolutely no problem with anime fans hating dubs, I agree that loads do sound terrible. What I do hate is fans on some of the bigger anime sites having a go at me because I dont just read subs and nothing else, how is it changing the way they are viewing or enjoying the anime? It shouldnt matter to them they way I watch it, its not like I ruin a series/movie for them because I dont watch it in Japanese.

EDIT: Oh yeah and that DMC poster looks brilliant

That's the worst of the lot! Why can't any of them just simply say "Kyon"? It's such a simple name, it really doesn't need masses of emphasis like that! If I had to pick one of those I'd probably got with 1 or 4, but they're all awful. American voice actors just try too hard in anime, they never feel vaguely natural. *sigh* Why do they need to dub that series anyway? It's awesome left as it is.

Nothing's been announced, but - there is still a gap before Feb 15th of two episodes, of which the titles haven't been revealed yet. I think it'll be in there. It could come as a flashback a little way into Part 2 I guess, but I don't see why the animators wouldn't put it in the same place as the manga did :)

Why don't you try getting along with people? Why didn't you come in here and say:

Anyone seen the ToS OVA footage yet? I found this on wikipedia.

On December 28th 2006, a video appeared on Youtube.com featuring footage from the Tales of Symphonia OVA. The footage shows several scenes, including Kratos Aurion at Anna's grave, an edited beginning scene in the Martel Temple, and a scene with Lloyd Irving and Colette Brunel outside in a field.

Anybody heard anything?
I must see this.

Based on the Atsushi Suzumi manga serialized in Dengeki Gao from the No. 8 issue, released on 6/27/05, Venus Versus Virus will be adapted to an anime TV series. Shinichiro Kimura (Hand Maid May, Cosplay Complex, Burnup Excess) will direct the Studio Lark produced animation. The story follows regular schoolgirl Sumire who's had the ability to see ghosts since a young age. She tells friends and family about this fact and they just dismiss it, thinking she's a liar. Anyway in regards to the symphonia anime they did a good job of replicating Kosuke Fujishima's work on the tos game. I think remiel looks way better animated as he seems a bit like a kid in tos. Still love it either way, and I'll make 100% completion some day. And what is with everyone having problems with Gendou. I recommended it because I've never had any trouble with it but it seems not to be the case now. Could be it gives you the poop stick if you try accessing at times when there is a heavy load on the server.

It's a promotion for the Naruto Shippuden to start.

Part 1 of the promotion is the announcement that it will start on Feb 15 (Thurs) and will be an hour long special. And gives a few "sneak peaks."

* The change in Naruto and Co's appearance.
* The real emergence of "Akatsuki."
* The re-meeting with Sasuke.

Part 2 of the promotion (the bottom part) is a promo of the a new vol 1 of all of Naruto's battles from the time he appeared to the end of the Zabuza/Haku battle. Title is Uzumaki Daikan (Uzumaki Large Volume). It's 742 pgs long and the same size an SJ mag. And will contain some new art by Kishi as well as colored pages for the fight scenes. Some of Kishi's covers for SJ, plus an extra large poster of the anime/manga double, and will be sold in stores starting Jan 9th.

Curse my inability to read Japanese... Higurashi is fucking awesome, I only watched the first 5 episodes, i'l get my mate to burn em to DVD for me if he can.

I guess it helps make the big announcement that will bring back all their viewers. It'll also show any new fans the difference between fillers and what the show's really supposed to be like. Imagine if you live in Japan and you only watch it as it airs weekly on television. If you started watching it 6 months ago, you might not realise there's supposed to be so much more to it than just fillers. This might help explain it? I dunno.

Either way I don't really get the name myself. It's a decent name and it refers to something fairly significant yes, but it's not really what Part 2 is all about....

Btw, the latest episode of Bleach is out in RAW form (it was a day later than usual) and it has a preview of the next season including the first look at the animated version of Shinji.

The dropping Naruto thing was just a joke, they only announced "Naruto NOT dropped" because so many people believed them, despite the "YHBT" (You Have Been Trolled) at the end of the news post. If they'd dropped Bleach we'd have heard about it by now.

I've seen caps of the email messages they showed in their fake torrent and I can see why they're pissed. They left the email addresses visible so I gave one of the idiots a piece of my mind. Some people just don't seem to get that DB offer a free service that takes a lot of time and work, and make totally unreasonable demands in capital letters... *sigh*. Whilst most of the time DB's pranks are a bit daft and uncalled for, the retaliation to some of the ungrateful idiots is understandable.

All that aside though, I'd still like episode 109 :grin

Btw, the TV Tokyo Naruto site would seem to suggest that the Naruto preview will be on Monday 8th Jan ;) Along with Bleach, Pokemon and Eyeshield preview stuff. Whether anyone will be bothered to rip it and share it online though, I dunno :/

Well, you know the Part 2 story already right? The only thing they changed in the end of part 1 was that they shifted something that could've been in episode 135 a little way into the fillers:Sakura starting her training with Tsunade They showed that at ep 141, then referenced it a bit again during the godawful Mizuki filler arc (142-146), So... as long as you've already know that bit then yeah. I would actually reccomend skipping the fillers for the sake of your sanity. :blank:

Yeah it's the end of fillers. Roughly translates to "Hurricane Chronicles" and is the name for Part 2, it begins February 15. Btw I own that box set and it sucks... its missing things it says that it has and the subtitles are pretty poor.

Wouldn't bloody suprise me. I rewatched a few episodes of box set one the other night, and the subtitles piss me off. Pot noodle.. seriously.. fuck off. We know what ramen is. I also hate how they change all the jutsu names to something crap, like kage bunshin no jutsu, is shadow body splitting or something crap like that.

I'm buying the boxsets essentially to own the official dvds, give something back for watching it on youtube, and hopefully so they continue and get the awesome episodes out on dvd.

Wouldn't bloody suprise me. I rewatched a few episodes of box set one the other night, and the subtitles piss me off. Pot noodle.. seriously.. fuck off. We know what ramen is. I also hate how they change all the jutsu names to something crap, like kage bunshin no jutsu, is shadow body splitting or something crap like that.
The worst thing I've seen in subs is Mai-HIME, where it puts "Mai" in the subs even when people refer to her as Tokiha... What the hell is the point of that?

Doesn't look like Kakashi Gaiden is airing before February the 15th.

Episodes 216-219 are a filler arc with the sand siblings. Episode 220 is 旅立ち (Setting Off) so it's probably a recap of the show so far and Naruto and Jiraiya heading off.

KG might come just at the start of the new series, but who knows.

I noticed I'm posting a lot in this thread because the discussion is on Naruto :heh: so here's all I know about what's been and what's coming up:

What's happening with NARUTO.

Part 1 went from episodes 0-135 and mirrored manga chapters 1-238.

In the manga, the next thing to be published in Jump was "Kakashi Gaiden", a side story set in the past with a bit of history on Kakashi. This hasn't been confirmed for the anime yet. There's no room for it to air before Part 2. It could be an OVA or within Part 2.

In the anime, the next thing to be shown was Fillers. These deviated from the manga storyline and are generally considered godawful in every regard. The only thing worth watching them for is a few fairly decent arcs: Orochimaru's Mansion (136-141), Bikochu arc (148-151), Anko arc (169-173). The first of these actually contains a small amount of canon material that was shown in manga chapter 238 but not anime episode 135.

The last filler will air Feb 1st, with episode 219. Episode 220 will seemingly be the absolute conclusion of Part 1 and a recap of what happened before the fillers began.

The title will change on Feb 15th to Naruto: Shippūden, literally meaning "Hurricane Chronicles", a name referring toThe revelation that Naruto's abilities are wind-element based. This is Part 2 of the series, the return to manga material, which was published just after the short Kakashi Gaiden arc and is still ongoing.

As well as the main episodes, there have been 3 OVAs (Original Video Animations), 3 movies (of which only 2 have been fansubbed so far, expect the 3rd in April) and a Sports Festival special that aired with the first movie.

There now I shouldn't have to answer any questions and we can talk about other anime :D

No, that license doesn't include over here, but once it's licensed in the USA it's illegal to download in the USA. Since Americans can browse these forums we just don't want to have direct links to it on here :)

All the mumbo-jumbo going on in this thread about licensed anime is annoying. If you're going to share links to dowload sites, just tell people to do it via PM. That way nobody gets beaten up. There's nothing worse than anime fans who chirp on about licenses and stuff yet spends half their life watching anime for free via the Internet. Everyone is guilty of it too, unless you're a complete tool in which case... fail.

Bleach 110 was great, yeah... and the lastest naruto one seems like a reintroduction to the main story, for all those that started watching during the fillers or forgot about it... was quite good though, for a filler.

I tried googling for anime before and it came up with a load of porn sites (including ones that open endless pop ups of porn, even when you have a pop up blocker on) and hentai, and generally mostly useless stuff.

Do you mean episode 13? It's already out, but L-E and TW have dropped it. The only one I've seen is by Kubus and the encoding was messy, low quality at a high size, ugh! Also a group called Under9000 has done it, but I heard that the translation wasn't as good as Kubus'. Animanda's episode 13 isn't up yet but I'm not sure how good they were anyway.

Interestingly it sounds as though Viz will be releasing the direct-to-download version as subs! Of course, they won't be free and the subtitles won't be as flashy as the fansubs, but it's good to know there'll be a definite source out there :)

are you talking about the story going in a different direction from the manga?

if not then afriad i don't know what you mean cuz i just finished the last episode (including the OVA), and i loved every moment of it. Characters were great, the two personalities of the main character worked well, the depiction of "normal" humans as being more demon-like that the discilnious is great, although the lead male character was a bit of a dumbass it was cool when his backstory is finally revealed.

the show moved at a good pace, not too fast, not too slow, you get to relate to each character and almost feel their pain/anger/shock, although it would have been nice if there were more episodes, the final ep ends with a few loose ends up in the air (like you never got to learn more of the Director Generals backstory) and it does that thing in the final scene where you just see a shadow of a character, but its kind of implied who it is, yet you never see the face, i hate when shows do that, its so "unfinished" and you want to see how the characters relationships finally pan out.

I thought that's what the OVA was going to do/cover, but instead it tells a story between episodes 10 and 11, but it does provide some extra backstory which is nice, but it would be nice to see some loose ends tied, shame.

But still a good viewing experience and that opening theme, so melencoly yet catchy

I'll say it's name and what it is, but i won't post a link, and won't send you PMs because it's ridiculously easy to find. It's called AniDB. Quite simply there's nothing to download there, but it's a database that associates every possible anime in existence with the respective subbers and it gives you the links to the subbers "official" websites. Considering every subber tells you where to download their releases on their websites, it's easy task to find the goodies. Some may find it usefull, some won't. That's up to you.
