I dont really wanna get involved with this but I hate the word FACT used on the net so ive gotta know, how is it a fact?

Well, it's not set in stone or anything, but you get my drift... :heh:

I'm aware of the 100% tax of relativity. :heh:

Which made no sense either, they are both opinion

Fact? That's it, fuck it. Can't be arsed with your line of thought anymore. Bye.

Fascinating. In so many posts, the only thing you managed to say was how deranged you think I am. You wonder why you're getting picked on? Try learning how to discuss, sir. :indeed:

Right, it's obvious you are clearly sticking up for Oxigen_Waste or just for other reasons have some grudge against me. Everyone else here has sussed that O_W is being arrogant and not understanding that any anime is interpreted differently by people - it is not wrong to say an anime is quite watchable if that is what I genuinely believed, as well as the word 'masterpiece' being ultimately an opinion. It is not a factual term like "liquid" or "gas"; it is a term used to describe something that you believe. If something could be definitively categorised as a masterpiece, Monster doesn't even seem to have that many 'awards' (2 displayed on Wikipedia, and one of the awards has even given first place one year to Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles >_>).

I bear no grudge against you and I´m sticking up for O_W because i agree with him.
And what if someone else has sussed him down here? And please don´t say everyone else... i bet most people here don´t really care and are scrolling past this argument.

I believe that it is not wrong to say an anime is watchable if you truly think so

But what i think is wrong when he asks why you didn´t think it was as good as he says and you give close to none reasons and wailing that he´s a fascist
that bans people to have their opinions
And you still haven´t listed what other shows are better, which was pretty much why this debate started

Now that I look back, that "best series ever made" post back there is lacking some very important names... Argh... silly me.

Right, I said I would be gone but Mundi- how can you seriously be agreeing with someone who says this:

Let's put it this way:

A - Klaxons suck. They're a terrible band.
B - I love them.

A - fact
B - opinion

and

Monster
Death Note
Mushishi
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Fullmetal Alchemist
Cowboy Bebop
GTO

These are the best anime series ever made. Fact.

You say I provided no reasons for my thoughts about Monster (which I did), that no one else thought O_W was wrong (again, they did), but worst of all he has no idea of the definition of fact- the very reason this argument started in the first place. If you side with this guy you are basically taking a shit on your credibility. :/

Not to be taking sides or anything...i'm fucking tired of this shit going on for 2 pages!!!
But mind me if I say that quality has a way of making itself notice. especially on music!!! I don't know the klaxons ou o caralho but it's obvious, when comparing it with a band with more quality, wich is worse. simple.

Jesus fucking christ... you're completely incapable of having a proper discussion, aren't you? ANSWER THE FUCKING QUESTION, for once! Stop sidetracking every single thing! So I'm completely wrong and yet you still can't come up with something to prove your point over mine? JESUS!

ALSO, yeah, maybe that second remark about the best series ever made shouldn't have that "fact" word there. The list is lacking various names, but still, that is completely besides the point. And as for the first quote ou had... it makes perfect sense. Your denial of it just proves exactly what I said about you.

Look, no one cares about whatever you want me to prove. You've got a grudge against the fact I don't think Monster is a masterpiece. We get it. We don't need any more pages of this. You have a god complex. You need to sort it out.

While you're at it, learn the definition of fact. Your opinion of a band is not fact. An anime is not a masterpiece because you say it is. Again, therefore, it is not fact. Read this post over and over, digest it carefully.

Then, never speak to me again =D. You're always trying to bash people's thoughts on things, and that really pisses me off.

Yeah, series films tend to suck...

There are some great non ghibli movies though...

Akira (for the ideas in it)
Ghost In The Shell
5 cm per second
Millenium Actress (great)
Paprika
The End Of Evangelion (if you watched the show... this is the best anime movie there is. My favourite, no question what-so-ever)
Cowboy Bebop The Movie: Knockin On Heaven's Door
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
The Place Promised In Our Early Days

Then there's also some not great but good movies, like Tokyo Godfathers, Ninja Scroll, Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro, Nitaboh, Jin Roh, Memories, Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence, Black Jack, Street Fighter II and some others.

I've also hear good things about Tekkonkinkreet from Hellfire, but I don't personally know...

The art was nice. I liked the clean lines and the animation. Then they brought in the CG dragons. It destroyed the show. The story wasn't anything new either.
The same animation used for when they turn into a dragon and when the other person gets in.

Like an extended episode but worse...Hey. The One Piece movies are awesome. A couple of them are really dark and twisted with bizzare animations nothing like the series. After the first couple of OP movies the anime was getting #1 ratings and the budget jumped up and the movies became seriously high quality. Well, up until 8... and the upcoming 9... which are just cut down retellings of previous arcs.

Seen it and loved it too. It's not about the story, which as you say, is nothing special. It's about the relations between the characters. It's also refreshing to see some realistic sci-fi for a change.

The openings last ages, just recapping the previous hundred or so episodes taking up 5 minutes of the time when you actually remember what happened because the last 20 episodes have had the same intro. (over exageration)

I've invented a new drinking game. Just have handy a boxset of Gundam Seed, someone unfamiliar with Gundam, a large bottle of tequila, or your preferred beverage, and shot glasses for everyone. Every time a new character appears on screen, pause before they speak and call the person unfamiliar with the show, and have them guess if the character is male or female. Then play and check by the sound of their voice. If they're wrong, everyone drinks a shot. If you're still unsure, everyone drinks three shots. The last to express drunken lust towards a character outside of their normal sexuality wins.

Yeah I checked out the start again just to see what it was like and the animation was superb. To think that few us in and we thought we'd get that quality every week...

That would take the budget to run a country and a crew that... could fill a country.

I'm still waiting for someone to make a decent anime adaptation of a classic novel. And no, RomeoXJuliet really does not count, and even if it did, it would be an adaptation of a play.

Speaking of which, I've always wanted to see A Dog of Flanders (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flanders_no_Inu%2C_Boku_no_Patrasche). It's supposed to be a very moving story, and it's one of the things Belgium is most known for in Japan. Japanese tourists visit Antwerp just so they can visit the place where Nello dies in the anime.

Here I list books I've read that would make good animes providing they didn't gay them up:
Snowcrash by Neal Stephenson (probably about 13 episodes)
Perdido Street Station by China Mieville (probably 26 eps)
Any book by Iain Banks.

Of course, all of this is sci fi, and they would all be adventure/action/sci-fi. Sci-Fi is all i've read recently. Well that and Palahniuk but his books really would not make good adaptions.

Got 2 episodes left. Ever since Ruhenhiem, it's drawn me in even more than usual, it's just a dream to watch.

I was so sad when he died, he finally got his emotions and cried for his son. He was an amazing character, he was so nice and cheerfull and died trying to help them all. I was upset when he was sitting on the chair with the sun coming in through the windows and finally felt happy/sadness.

And not the conclusion of the anime. Wonder how it's gonna end.

My eyes got all watery when I was watching that, then when it went to his grave at the last episode, his name finally got cleared.

But damn that was good. I'm happy the way the story ended but I was hoping for

to see the reunion at Reichwines and find out their real names and who the mum really wanted to keep, and if she gave one up (Nina) why keep Johan. And where did he bigger off to. Or maybe Kenzo finally being with someone after all that time, whether it be Nina or Eva. Talking about Eva, I never liked her untill the end actually, she always seemed the bitchy type but at the end she looked much better.

Seriously one day i'll find an anime that wraps ever loose end :heh:

Higurashi does, but you have to work out some things.

For instance, what the hell happens with Teppei in Tatarigoroshi-hen... that had me confused for a long time. The trick is to use other arcs and the punishment games played to deduce what actually happened.

I actually have the original soundtrack for the Higurashi games (because I have the games), and there is about half an hour of mp3 recordings of cicadas.

By the way, who else loves the line where the title comes from?

「もう直ぐ終わる… 全部終わる!…そうだ… ひぐらしのなく頃に… 全部!」

"Soon it'll all be over... everything will be over! That's right... when the cicadas cry... everything will be finished!"

Bokurano is an interesting show in that it seems to follow an episodic format like Ghost In The Shell at first but then the continual story takes some wild twists and huge increases in scale. If that makes any sense.

I watched the movie "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" today, very beautifully drawn and animated, as is expected from a high budget movie I guess. It did leave me with a nice satisfied feeling even though there were a few things I didn't think were so good.

What other anime films should I check out.. assuming I've already watched everything Satoshi Kon and Miyazaki have made? I have Tekkonkinkrit(sp?) here which I'll be watching next.

I think what it did well was nightime animation, it's one of the first instances of it being pulled off successfully. I also thought some of the hallucination and telekinesis scenes were clever. I didn't actually like it much though, partly because it's so nonsensical - I prefer the manga, where things are actually explained. (and that is also innovative, though in different ways)

Still, it's not exactly my favourite type of show.

That's why it's great, you don't to like them, you just need to feel something for them (which applies to any character in fiction), they're more real than generic anime girl #300 and the story is very well crafted, so you end up feeling a connection with them.

Spring season lineup

03/07 St. Seiya The Hades Chapter - Elysion Episode 1 (http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/sp/seiya/) - superheroes
03/14 Bus Gamer (http://www.fwinc.co.jp/busgamer/) - Not an anime about buses; it's supposed to be about business (a fit of Engrish, it would seem). Then again it's apparently not really about business either, it's more like a fighting tournament with corporate secrets as prizes. Based on a short manga (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=5726) that apparently has some sort of cult status.
03/21 Kite Liberator (http://www.kite-liberator.com/) - OVA, sequel to the (apparently very bloody) 1998 OVA "Kite" (it has been released in the US but only in a censored version). Apparently it's about a high school girl who goes around killing people with her alternate "angel of death" personality.

03/24 Ikuze! Gen-san (http://www.ikuze-gensan.com/anime/) - Seems kinda like a mix of Super Mario and Bob the Builder.
03/25 Kimi ga Nozomu Eien Next Season vol. 2 (http://www.kiminozo.jp/)
03/25 .hack//G.U. Trilogy (http://www.hack.channel.or.jp/trilogy/) - Even more of this? This one is a CG movie, it seems.
03/26 To Heart 2 Another Days (http://www.aquaplus.co.jp/th2v/) - OVA. I don't think anyone except possibly Moogy actually watches this.
03/28 School Days: Magical Heart Kokoro-chan (http://www.schooldays-anime.com/) - Magical girl spinoff OVA of that Nice Boat show, starring Kokoro Katsura (Kotonoha's little sister) as the magical girl.
03/31 Chi's Sweet Home (http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/anime/chissweet/) - About a cat

04/02 Yu-Gi-Ou 5D's (http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/yuugiou/) - ...
04/02 Lupin III Green vs. Red (http://lupin-3rd.net/) - OVA about everyone's favorite thief.

04/03 Allison to Lilia (http://allison-web.net/) (Allison and Lilia) - Madhouse makes an anime adaption of that guy's who wrote Kino's Journey (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=21360) other novel/manga. This one is about a female air force pilot in a fantasy world with 1930's technology and two cultures that have been at war for hundreds of years.
04/03 Kyou Kara Maou! Season 3 (http://www.maruma-ova.jp/) - MrVacBob says: "gay".

04/05 Kanokon (http://www.kanokon.com/) - Romantic comedy fanservice harem show (read: smut). Guy transfers to new school, meets fox-girl and wolf-girl (voiced by Ayako Kawasumi and Mamiko Noto respectively, what a waste of talent. not because of the furries but because of the horribly generic lovecomedy format).

04/06 Nabari no Ou (http://www.nabari.tv/) (The King of Nabari) - High school student gets pulled into a fantasy world full of ninjas with hidden powers.
04/06 Internet Ghost PIPOPA (http://www.teretoro.com/) - :wtc: (apparently some gay Second Life thing)
04/06 Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 (http://www.geass.jp/) - Another season of chess, mechas, Pizza Hut, mind control and badass characters. If you haven't watched the first season (http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=2124656) yet, you really should. (R2 is not a typo for S2, by the way.)

04/07 Soul Eater (http://www.souleater.tv/) - Shounen-ish action show involving shinigami/death gods/death spirits (seems like a hugely popular ingredient lately) and (allegedly) a rather twisted sense of humour.
04/07 Monochrome Factor (http://www.monochro.tv/) - Based on a manga (licensed by Tokyopop) about some guy who becomes a "shadow creature" and gains various powers in order to maintain the balance of, uh, something. Some of the staff, including the director (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=24730), also worked on the (in)famous shounen-ai show Loveless. Given the manga's pretty boy character designs, I'm not sure what conclusions we should draw from that.
04/07 Vampire Knight (http://www.vampire-knight.jp/) - Shoujo high school vampire show with the female protagonist being a "guardian" dedicated to upholding the balance between the vampires and the normal humans. Prone to lots of angsty forbidden romance. Based on the manga with the same name (licensed by Viz).

04/08 Uchi no San Shimai (http://flower.lolipop.jp/)

04/10 Kamen no Maid Guy (http://www.fujimishobo.co.jp/sp/meidoguy/) (The Masked Maid Guy) - Comedy show that seems suspiciously like Hayate the Combat Butler, complete with crossdressing and everything. Was the Hayate manga created to poke fun at these things or is it the other way around? :iiam:
04/10 Kaiba (http://www.wowow.co.jp/anime/kaiba/) - :siren: Artfags, this is for you! :siren: Madhouse and Masaki Yuasa (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=6940) (the guy responsible for directing things like Mind Game, Kemonozume and Cat Soup) does something that is said to be a "science fiction love story". Be on lookout for the mindfucks.

04/11 Golgo 13 - For those of you who missed it, this is based on a monstrously long (debuted 1968) and very popular adult manga about a badass (the word doesn't really cover it though) assassin. The manga has gratuitous sex, drugs and violence, but it remains to be seen to what extent this will carry over to the TV version. No website yet.

04/25 Tsubomi's Secret vol. 1: "Keep the Baby a Secret" (http://www.naitsubo.com/) - OVA, based on a slice of life manga about a girl growing up and going through puberty (the "baby" thing in the title most likely refers to the pregnancy of the main character's mother).
04/26 Suna Dokei (Sand Chronicles) (http://www.betsucomi.shogakukan.co.jp/sunadokei/) - Cinematic movie, based on a shoujo/slice-of-life manga. Teenage love, families falling apart, small town Japan.
04/30 Strait Jacket vol. 3 (http://www.straitjacket.jp/)

04/??? Wagaya no Oinari-sama (http://www.mediaworks.co.jp/contents/oinarisama/index.php) - Based on a series of romance light novels that revolve around an ancient fox god dedicated to protecting a modern family. Said fox god can apparently switch genders for some reason. The character designs seem oddly familiar.
04/??? Nijuu-Mensou no Musume (http://www.chico-tv.com/) (The daughter of 20-faces) - Bones does an anime adaption of a manga about a female thief (voiced by Aya Hirano). Judging from the trailer, it seems to have lots of potential for gratuitous French. The name of the show (and the manga) literally means "daughter of 20-faces" where 20-faces is "The Fiend with 20 Faces", who apparently is a famous character from a series of (mostly unrelated but very popular) Japanese suspense novels. (update: I have bolded this on the insistence of RH.)
04/??? Toshokan Sensou (http://www.toshokan-sensou.com/) (The Library War) - From Production I.G.'s department of :psyduck: productions we get "The Library War", a military science fiction anime about a group of people who fight to stop an organization dedicated to destroying offensive books deemed "harmful", directed by the guy responsible for Sisters of Wellber and airing in the Noitamina timeslot. (what)

04/??? Real Drive Sennou Chousashitsu (http://www.ntv.co.jp/RD/) - From Production I.G.'s department of Serious Cyberpunk Science Fiction Productions (featuring Masamune Shirow), we get... something that seems like a cross between Ghost in the Shell and Serial Experiments Lain (hi MVB). The director (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=36) has a pretty interesting track record (Zipang, Chevalier d'Eon, You're Under Arrest, Hunter x Hunter, Rurouni Kenshin, other stuff).
04/??? Himitsu Top Secret (http://www.hakusensha.co.jp/himitsu/) - Based on a philosophical sci-fi suspense manga that follows a forensics team in a future world where, contrary to the name, nothing is really secret since brain scanning technology allows reading up to five years worth of the scanned person's memories, even if the person in question is dead. Adaption by Madhouse.
04/??? To-Love-Ru (http://www.j-toloveru.com/) - Some ecchi harem comedy thing complete with loser guy and girl from another planet. The name is supposed to be a really hilarious pun since the English word "trouble" written with kana would be "to-ra-bu-ru" which, if you drop the "ru", is the same as how you'd write "to love" ("to ra-bu").

04/??? S-A ~Special-A~ (http://special-a.jp/) - Based on a popular shoujo manga with the same name. The concept reminds me of early Kare Kano; girl sees guy as rival and wants to beat him, guy loves girl but she doesn't realize it.
04/??? Da Capo II Second Season (http://www.starchild.co.jp/special/dc2/) - Since I can't seem get the relationships between all the Da Capo things straight if my life depended on it, I had a fansubber friend who watches this kind of stuff sum it up for me: "Da Capo - Original. Da Capo SS - Da Capo Shitty Season to capitalize on the first season. Da Capo II - Based on the second game. Da Capo II SS - Improved Da Capo II to make up for starring the wrong girl in the first season." They sure do like living up to the name of the franchise.

04/??? Itazura na Kiss (http://itakiss-anime.jp/) - Shoujo drama/comedy thing that follows genius guy and airheaded girl (supported by the guy's slightly deranged mother) over the course of several years.
04/??? Neo Angelique Abyss (http://www.gamecity.ne.jp/neoromance/tv/neo/index.htm) - Fantasy harem show but in reverse, one girl and a harem of pretty guys instead of moéblobs. A spinoff of this OVA (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=4468).

04/??? Kure-nai (http://www.samidareso.com/) - High school boy swears to protect 7-years old female heir to a powerful corporate syndicate. Allegedly it's kinda like a dark, violent and disturbing version of Hayate the Combat Butler, except the guy isn't a butler and doesn't have any superpowers. Actually scratch that, it's not like Hayate at all.
04/??? Blassreiter (http://www.nitroplus.co.jp/pc/) - Nitro+ and guess who... *drumroll* ... GONZO cooperate to create another CG-animated mecha (?) show. It looks suspiciously like Dragonauts, except it's got motorcycles instead of dragons. This can't possibly end well. The trailer (http://youtube.com/watch?v=wkrgxOjXfwU) has some rather funky CG.
04/??? Kyouran Kazoku Nikki (http://www.enterbrain.co.jp/fb/) (Frenzied Family Journal) - ANN says: "Half-human special-ops unit masquerades as a family to save Earth". Has at least one catgirl; apparently it's a comedy show and not action.

04/??? Crystal Blaze (http://anime.biglobe.ne.jp/crystal-blaze/) (Glass Maiden) - Mandoric says: "The upshot is that it's an attempt at a hard-boiled, allegedly older-targeted detective show set in a near-future fictional East Asian city; the image items, so to speak, are a Smith and Wesson model 29 revolver and an '80s Trans Am. Possibly cool, but probably pure fangirl bait." For some reason the official English title is "Glass Maiden" despite the "Japanese" title being English (but written with kana) in the first place.
04/??? Macross Frontier (http://www.macrossf.com/) - I think you should have heard of this. See the thread (http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=2683062).

04/??? xxxHOLiC Tsugi (http://www.tbs.co.jp/holic/) - Another season of CLAMP characters doing CLAMP-related things.
04/??? Gyagu Manga Biyori 3 (http://www.kids-station.com/minisite/gag3/) - nonstop gags
04/??? Sugar Bunnies 2 (http://www.sanrio.co.jp/anime/sugarbunnies/) - Sanrio toys gimmick.

04/??? The Tower of Druaga ~the Aegis of URUK~ (http://www.druaga-anime.com/) - Gonzo, spearheaded by the Last Exile/FMP S1 director (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=54) and the author of the Full Metal Panic novels adapts a fantasy game series subtitled "The Recovery of Babylim" (sic).
04/??? Zettai Karen Children (http://websunday.net/zettai/) (Absolutely Adorable Children) - Light comedy about three 10-year old girls with various superpowers (teleportation, psychokinesis and "psychometry", whatever that means) whom the government tries to use for various military purposes (not very successfully, to the annoyance of their caretaker lieutenant).
04/??? Amatsuki (http://amatsuki.com/) - Shounen fantasy following the tried and trusted "guy gets thrown back to historic era, meets warrior girl who saves his life, makes new friends etc. etc." concept.

04/??? Junjou Romantica (http://www.suzukisan.info/) - Harem (?) romance show... with only guys. :gay:
04/??? Fire Ball - Apparently Disney does some kind of CG thing produced in Japan. Other than that I have no idea.

05/23 Hoshi no Umi no Amuri (Amuri in Star Ocean) vol.1 (http://www.amuri.jp/) - OVA. Has nothing to do with the Star Ocean series of games; apparently it's something about mermaids. Interestingly, the guy who writes and directs it (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=8064) also directed GaoGaiGar. I wonder what that means.
05/30 Tsubomi's Secret vol. 2 (http://www.naitsubo.com/)

06/27 Tsubomi's Secret vol. 3 (http://www.naitsubo.com/)

Later: (far from complete list)

Spring: Kara no Kyokai (http://www.karanokyoukai.com/) - More Kara no Kyokai movies.
Spring: Eve no Jikan (Are you enjoying the time of EVE?) (http://www.studio-rikka.com/eve/) - Science fiction movie. Looks potentially very interesting.
Spring: True Messiah Legend Fist of the North Star: Legend of Kenshiro (http://www.hokuto-no-ken.jp/) - Movie about MANLINESS
June: Telepathy Shoujo Ran (http://www3.nhk.or.jp/anime/ran/)
Summer: Hidamari Sketch x365 (http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/hidamari/)
Summer: Tetsuwan Birdy (http://www.birdy-tv.com/) (Birdy the Mighty) - Remake of a 1996 OVA (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=105) which in turn is based on an 80's manga (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=4980).
Summer: CODE-E S2 (http://avexmovie.jp/lineup/code-e/) - I can't remember what the first season was about.
August: Sky Crawlers (http://sky.crawlers.jp/index.html) - Mamoru Oshii + Production I.G.
October: Gundam 00 S2 (http://www.gundam00.net/)
Autumn: Linebarrels of Iron (http://www.linebarrels.jp/) - Designs look oddly similar to Evangelion.

EDIT: I stole this from Something Awful so there's some references you might not get.

I thought you knew that.
That's why it's great, you don't to like them, you just need to feel something for them (which applies to any character in fiction), they're more real than generic anime girl #300 and the story is very well crafted, so you end up feeling a connection with them.

Wich is why I keep watching it... :D I may hate them, but I want to know what's going to happen to them. :heh:

Like I said, it's very well crafted. And finally, a shojo with some true brains. :heh:

Need someone's help. Been a while since I've seen Ghost in the Shell so someone who is more versed in it would be useful.

Need to do an assignment on Judith Butler's notion that gender is fluid, and we chose our gender (lets not get too sidetracked about that theory...). I was thinking about how Major is a personality, placed within a (female) body, allbeit with a somewhat male idenity. And I know toward the end she merges (or whatever the correct term is) with the puppet master. So she is part male-part female and the body she is in is mearly a construct.

Anyway, by what I've described am I onto something? I will re-watch the film obviously, but wanted to know if it was worthwhile. If not I'll do Transamerica but it was an idea.

http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/560/xxxholickeiko3hg7.png

Genres: Comedy, Drama, Fantasy, Horror, Mystery, Psychological, Slice of Life, Supernatural

Synopsis:
Kimihiro Watanuki is a high school student plagued by yōkai, supernatural beings magically attracted to him. The creatures are invisible to others, and as a result he feels extremely burdened by them. When he quite literally stumbles into a shop that grants wishes, his life changes drastically.

The shop is owned by Yūko Ichihara, a mysterious, beautiful witch of many names and esoteric renown. The seemingly all-knowing witch offers to grant Watanuki's wish to be rid of his ability to see spirits. However, in exchange, he must pay a price equal to the power required to grant the wish. Yūko discovers that Watanuki is very skilled with his hands and a hard worker. As a result, Watanuki is forced to perform housework and odd jobs for Yūko until he has done enough work for his wish to be granted.

Shortly afterwards, other characters become involved with Watanuki's position, including his love interest, Himawari Kunogi, and his "rival," Shizuka Dōmeki. The three become increasingly "friendly," despite the number of times Watanuki becomes annoyed by Dōmeki's calm demeanor.

What sort of genre is "Slice of Life"? :heh:

Dante
02-03-2008, 02:43 PM
A slice of life is a category for a story that portrays a "cut-out" sequence of events in a character's life. It may or may not contain any real plot, and often has no exposition, action, conflict, or denouement, with an open ending. It usually tries to depict the every-day life of ordinary people. The term slice of life is actually a (more or less) dead metaphor: it often seems as if the author had taken a knife and cut out a slice of the lives of some characters, without concern for narrative form.

I always thought slice of life meant shows like Lucky Star or Ichigo Mashimaro that are sorta cutesy and don't have any special powers and such, just real life situations.

I thought it was literally what it is. A look into someones life, just doign everyday things. So yeah, Lucky Star etc.

Ew.

Can't phrase it any better. I guess I shoud add more to this before I get infracted.
I've stalled on anime recently. Whoever recommended Bokurano (Sanchez I think) does it actually have a good ending, right now I'm not thinking it does...
Still One of the girls in the group being Dung Beetle's sister was a right surprise. Totally wasn't expecting it.

Lucky Star English dub trailer (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=kKtNTbFTtgM)

BURN IT! SEND IT TO HELL!!The voices aren't awful IMO, but the originals were a key part of the comedy - and that trailer just isn't funny. What does Lucky Star have if not comedy?

Nice work Bleach team, this episode had about 16 and a half minutes of content and some really terrible animation. At least episode 165ish should have a decent battle.

Ahh it wasn't that bad, it just felt short. And 166 is going to be the good one, 165 will be all build up

A bizarre atmosphere I suppose... even so, I hate the voices - they're just too damn American. Also I hate the way they butcher the pronunciation of Japanese names - [kɑːˈgæmiː] makes me squirm, it's ['kagami] dammit!

Is there an official complete Ghibli collection available? I can find plenty of versions, and my housemate bought one last year off ebay. The box seems official, but the DVDs are dodgy copies.

I'm on the last volume of Death Note now and I'm just as tense as when I was watching the anime.
One thing that I'm miffed about in the manga is they use 'Delete' instead of 'Eliminate' when Mikami is killing people. It sounds wrong...delete...

They use "eliminate" in the anime??? That sucks... "delete" shows just what type of person Mikami was... "eliminate" is just so... normal.

A clash of opinions then. Eliminate sounds much more evil, like he's actually killing them. I understand where you're coming from though. Delete sounds so impersonal, like he sees these people as scum.
Delete seems more fitting but Sakujo! sounded awesome with Eliminate! at the bottom of the screen.

In fact, I think sakujo has more of a "delete" sort of connotation.

e.g. このファイルは削除して下さい。 - Please delete this file.

Of course it can mean eliminate, but I'd guess delete is the sort of thing the autor was going for.

Reading from the manga, delete looks better. But hearing sakujo with the eliminate sub is better. Each form is adequate to its medium.

Hmm... one day I'll bother to watch the anime all the way to the end... even if it is just for the awesome soundtrack.

No. Delete is more machine-like. Ctrl-Alt-Erase sounds gay.:heh:

Precisely. Erase is sinister. Mikami is like a machine, he's not a regular person. The more computerized and detached he sounds, the better. Hence... delete > erase.

Erase sounds good. But it doesn't have the same feeling as Delete. Delete sounds harsh, the d and the t are strong letters and just deleting something sounds like that something was nothing of value.
Erase sounds like it was there, you tried working on it but then in the end you wanted to change it.

*Navi*Listen!*Navi* (as im sure my questions always get overlooked :p)

Interesting topic for a dissertation? I am 90% sure I want to do anime (although I don't watch as much as 97% of people in here) but im not sure what. Part of me wants to include television (although it can be film &) because I want to do my MA in TV. I thought maybe something to do with Ghibli. But then I would like to do Ghost in the Shell and Death Note...Maybe the dominance of Japanese animation in contemporary pop culture/society/Britain (one of those) and its effects and stuff like that.

Another idea I had was a comparisson or discussion of Dexter and Death Note as they have a fair few similarities. Like an American and Japanese perspective on evil (and can go into religious imagery, pyschoanalytical theory etc). Would be nice to do British as well (seeing as...I am) but can't think of any recent serial killers, other than maybe Jeckyl but I had a reason for not doing that which I forget...

I agree with you somewhat... hmm, I think "erase" is more phonetically suited to genocide than homicide.

I think the effects of Japanese animation in modern pop culture might be easier, you have lots of research material and aren't really limited to a very specialized subject.

I'm still saving my Naruto =o

2 weeks and I'll have stored up 5 episodes (since there is going to be a double episode special in a couple of weeks, although so far in Shippuuden they've all sucked). It will be really nice to watch several in a row again.
