So, what do you use to Jump in SSBM?
It may seem really random, but hey, interesting in a weird way!!

I think I use X mostly(or is it Y? Nah, it has to be X), but sometimes I use UP too. A button just feels more "secure"(ie, you are sure your character jumps).

I tend to use Y most of the time but occasionally use the analogue too (usually for the double jump).
I guess I just mix it up but use Y 90% of the time! Whichever i feel will be my quickest reaction!

I use up automatically sometimes. I've been saved by doing unconcious jumps quite a lot!! But i primarily use Y

I use X, it feels best.

I use 'UP' to jump;
That way i have total control over the character just on the analogue stick; up to jump/doublejump, hold down to accelerate down etc...
I much prefer it that way; less buttons to worry about!

I always use up to jump, it just feels right to me.

I always use Y. I think the button is in the perfect spot for it, instead of X, and using up just feels weird to me.

X for me as it is direct in line with my thumb

X. I always use X.

X is the obviouse choice. Up on the analogue is just too fiddle, especially if you want to jump forwards for example.

Indeed, which is why I never use Up to jump.

I use X. I can't get used to the idea of flicking a stick to jump, it's wierd, even if it's more logical.
After picking up my Wavebird I can tell you that I use...Y to jump. Don't like using up to jump. It doesn't feel right to me.

I use the Y button, mainly because I used the C up on the N64 version and got used to it.

It was to be X and Y all the way, using Up always confuses me.. though I still use it unintentionally nearly as often.

X is in the worng place to jump. And if you use the analog you can't angle your jump, Y it is.

I always use up and have never use X or Y unless it was a mistake. It just seems easier and you have less thumb movement to do for air attacks.

I always use Y to jump.
It's safer to push the button than press the stick forward/upward and you still have full control over your character that way.

X all the way, don't like using up because I find it too fiddly, although I do occasionaly do it by mistake!

Hmm, i tend to use the X quite often, but now and again the Y button is used. I use X when i play against my mates, and UP when i play against CPU characters.

Y!
Like Ty said up there, I got used to using c up on the N64. I think as well y seems logical like c up did because its above the punch and kick buttons...?

Y all the way.
I feel I have more control over the direction of the jump with a buttion. And why Y over X? Don't know why Y but I never use X.
If X is the one on the far right of the controler, then thats the one I always use when I play. Y is too far away for speed, and Up just doesn't seem right, like cheating almost :-/

Absolutely Y. It lies under the tip of my thumb, while A is under the base of the thumb.

I'm an up man myself, only because thats what I started playing the game with and it stuck, too late to change now.
I use either X or Y but X is the most used, dunno why, maybe because its easier for my thumb to reach. :)

I always use up so I can use my right hand to flick the c-stick with. I hate not being able to reach it. Feel so vulnerable without it.

Y... using Up is suicide if you're playing seriously.

I probably use y most conciously, followed by x, and very occassionally up, generally by mistake and as a reaction to something unexpected.

I use the Y-A-B triangle, you're a bit lower if you use X to jump to do aerial special (b-)attacks since the distance on the controller is greater...when I jump out of reflector with falco or fox, I use up because a button is less acurate then.
Y... using Up is suicide if you're playing seriously.
lol, you've gotta be kiddin' me, the dutch champion here plays with controllstick jumping...he even wavedashes this way...so if you play on a higher level then it truely doesn't matter which button you use to jump

I always use UP, just feels easier and gives me more control over the character.

Just because he's the "Dutch champion" doesn't make him good :P. I don't believe in a "champion" because you get people who don't go to tournaments who could potentially be "the best". I get what you mean though, I mean, Ken doesn't wavedash at all... >_>;. In general... though... I wouldn't say using Up when you could easily use Y is a very clever thing to do against someone at a proper competitive level.
I do see your point however. Maybe "suicide" wasn't really an appropriate word. xD;

Y springs to mind first of all, but to be honest I'll use whatever seems best at the time, sometimes up and sometimes X or Y. It all depends on what kinda attacks I'm up to.

X all the way baby. Its right there in reach and its much better to jump acurately than up.

Man I can't believe us UP users are in the minority - I've never actually used X or Y. :p Better give that a shot and see if I get any improvements.

I find X really awkward to use to wavedash with... maybe it's just 'cause of my small girl hands though >_>;

I voted X, but check a pic of the controller and should have voted for Y. I only EVER use Y and if i push up its by accident of just for an UP attack.

Y is much easier as you just slide your thumb up and over it

X or Y, whichever way my fingers decide. I think it's usually Y.

Has to be Y really. The thumb sits nicely in that position over Y and A, and you can jump and attack easily.

you obviously haven't seen higher level (japanese style) ssbm gaming...there's no way you can even get to that level without going to tournaments, there's only so far that you can go if you play against a few friends or even cpu's.
Y is simply "better" then up or X for casual gamers but once you've surpassed a certain point, it all doesn't matter anymore

x for me, use to use up but then i learnt about hopping/wavedashing.
