and Yes, the name of this thread is a pun.

Anyway, i thought that it might be a nice idea to dedicate a thread to:
-wii advertising seen
-non 'hardcore gamer' talk of the wii
-general non internet hype.

to get the ball rolling, Toys r Us in australia is strongly supporting the wii. not only are they currently giving the best preorder deals, but they also have tv screens in their stores with wii-e3 clips running throughout the day.

also on the train home, i saw a couple (aged 24ish i reckon) playing their nintendo ds (brain training). being a gamer myself, i struck up a conversation with them, and they seemed VERY excited about its launch.

what else has anyone seen/experienced?

Toys R Us have the best deal?

That's debatable, considering Electronics Boutique will match it and Myer is offering $600 of vouchers to be spent in the home entertainment department.

All you get at Toys is a free game.

most GAME stores have E3 or promo footage of Wii being shown on their TVs in store-next to a pretty lil 'preorder Wii' sign.

I went to the first GAME store in Portugal (theres a lot more now), and there was a pre-order display for the Wii there, with the 3 pre-orders.

EDIT: Blue_Ninja0 yer bastard

haha! and i will debate it!
EB will match any deal, but they wont beat it. and, of course, buying from EB comes with a cost... that being that you have to deal with the arrogant EB salespeople.

with the myer deal, it will be a bunch of coupons.
nb. the coupons also said 'electrical equipment'.
and in the past the coupons have been of the kind:
"in may, buy this game for $20 less", even though you never wanna play spongebob squarepants' awesome adventure...

as it stands, ill get mine from toysrus, and will prolly convince my brother to get his from myer... get all kinds of deals!

People can be as arrogant or charismatic as they wish, it has absolutely nothing to do with the company. People at the Shepp EB are great, only too willing to ensure you get what you want.

People in Wagga have been pricks, however, I must admit that there hasn't been any one particular person stay there for more than 6 months, or so it appears.

You have no idea what the vouchers will be at Myer. Therefore, you can't discredit them. Just because something has happened in the past doesn't mean it is set in stone in the future.

In a few weeks, Kmart (soon to be Target or Coles) and Big W will add their programs, and I'm willing to bet they will beat out anything Toys R Us or EB are willing to do.

On that, I noticed a promotional video of the Wii in EB two days ago, albeit at their rediculous trade in value.

Anywhere taking pre-orders for the Wii just now is being a little careless - and may end up holding customers into bad deals since no one knows the release date or RRP.

/bitter he can't pre-order one yet at work

Can you preorder a Wii at GAME at any United Kingdom store now???

I didn't know.....:indeed:

Your only putting your name down aren't you? Then you can go for a bundle deal on the day? (whenever that is).

Yes but logically, $600 worth of good vouchers to every wii preorder would be ridiculous. Insane even. Id bet my $50 toys r us preorder deposit that myer will have lousy coupons...im not judging them from past experience, im just saying that its unrealistic.

A free game is a good deal, and its probably about the best people are gonna get...

however someone on dspot.co.nr mentioned that theyre going to get a free game (that GT racing one) from myer...which is odd.

Just register your interest, which is name and number. When the company knows more (ie date, price and their stock allocations) they will be taking (most likely £20) deposits. And you can buy it by itself. They may try and promote bundles, but you have every right not to buy them.

And as I've said before, if you've seen the GAME stores showing Red Steel and Raving Rabbits its a Ubisoft promotion, not a Wii one ;)

I already saw Wii on the news, on female mags, newspapers,... And not ads, but articles. I bet the name also helped a lot.

Havent seen any Wii advertising in Ireland. Maybe it's just where I live, but I doubt there's a lot anywhere.

DS lite ads are only trickling onto tv and in fact I've only ever seen the same one over and over again.

Im moving to Dublin next week, so maybe I'll see some up there.

Gamestation and Game both have the E3 trailers showing quite often, and there are quite a few leaflets about the console and pre-orders too. Exciting stuff :P

Nope. Thats what they call bullshit.

I remember a day or two before we had an email coming down basically saying "Yes, push bundles anda ll that, but nobody is obliged to take one." I think PS3s may be a bit different, because people who don't buy in bundles are generally just going to sell it on eBay.

unfortunately some managers, like our's in belfast, on 360 launch day turned away anyone who wasn't wanting to buy one of the GAME bundles. if HQ in england found out how these guys operate at times (the stories i could tell!) just to make themselves look good, they'd all be fired on the spot i'd wager...!

AFAIK Gamestation is waiting for a release date, then expect to see Wii marketing stuff in their shops very quickly.

And the GAME in town here were indeed letting people just buy the console if they pre-ordered (unlike Toys 'R' Us who famously required the customers add shit launch titles in order to get the console they'd pre-ordered). However, the few 360's they had available on the shelves were in ridiculously bad bundles and they wouldn't let people buy them without.

I believe this was the management of that store being arseholes and not a GAME policy though.

Not just there. I think it's a global disease. Just because it has Playstation in the name doesn't mean it will be as good as PS2 and yes, most people are unaware of the price or will probably be fooled by the cheaper (but still expensive) version without half the features.

Damn, why do you guys all live in Lisbon?

My town sucks arse like a big arse sucking thing...

It's quite a big town, but the only place you can buy games is Smiths, which only have like 5 DS games, and no Cube stuff (I did get TWW there though, which was nice-no waiting for it in the post from play.com!)

I have to go to St. Albans or Luton (you should know where Luton is if you live in the UK...) to get to GAME/HMV/Virgin Megastore.

However, a shop has recenlty shut in the centre of town, and there have been rumors of it being a GAME, which I highly doubt but would be nice...

I'm also from Portugal, but I am not much of a "counter buyer"... my previous experience with gaming shop employees is not very pleasant.

I'd rather pick the article up from the shelf, and that's probably why I'll end up buying in Fnac or something.

I can only imagine. The only reason I'll try preordering it is because I may have the chance of getting a free t-shirt (sometimes it happens!).

Talking about t-shirts - I bought one of these: http://www.spreadshirt.net/shop.php?op=article&article_id=3040073#top

The closest discussion to the Ubisoft DVD I could think of; but the Ubisoft rep came in yesterday and I told him how everyone was interested in Raving Rabbits (and kinda Red Steel, but RR stands out more) and how it had caught a lot of people's eyes. He seemed impressed.

All the Wii advertisements in GAME are in the DS section, and with the DS being the hottest console on the market, it's right at the front of the shop. I'm glad to see they've finally given the DS it's rightful position. What's funny though is the fact that the PS2 has moved to the back, and that's where all the PS3 ads are. So people are seeing Wii first which is good.

In a Codemasters booklet (that came with a magazine for Software/Games sellers) has a advert from Nintendo inside the back cover.

Basically its

[Nintendo Logo]

Would like to (congratulate codemasters on their 20th anniversary - or words to that effect)

[DSlite logo] [Wii logo]

Still, no insider news about launch dates in the magazine.

Recently, in my local GAME store, I saw the first advertisment for the Wii, remember, this is in Spain, where everyone has been brainwashed by Sony, and people only buy games for graphics, and think that games like Paper Mario 2 are crap because it has 2D graphics, then compared it to Need For Speed Underground... Of course, we all know that PM 2 is the better game.

On-topic again: The advertisment was rather small, but most adverts are small in this shop, and it was with the DS games, which are near the front, just next to the XBOX 360 games (which are at the front) and oposite the PSP games.
