Huh? I mean if they would just port the GC version it would look better. Someone please give me a valid reason how a developer can deliever something like this.
The Wii is fully backwards compatible to the GC so they could just used their old engine and increase details, polygons, ... whatever and it would look better. And before someone starts TIME doesn't matter because I doubt it takes more than 6 months to do something like that when you have the complete engine + assets on your computer.
I like Battalion Wars but if developers completly start to ignore graphics I don't buy their games.
I thought this. It has to be in early stages. Both Strikers and this look a little more rough then the GC versions...mmmm...
I don't think i'll be buying this though, not my sort of game.

I'm starting to think that people are excepting that "Wii graphics suck", and have lost neutral perspective to any screenshots that are posted. This game doesn't look worse than Battalion Wars but it doesn't look better either. Only thing is that these are in bigger resolution than original BW preview pictures were.

Give it some time. The games have just been announced. They had to show something. It still looks like it is an early work in progress.

Compare the pictures and I am sure you will obviously see that both use the same engine. Grass, soldiers, tanks, ... look nearly identical. Now if they use the same engine but with a obviously better console I highly doubt there should be any problems to make a game look seriously better than its precedessor in a few months.

Graphically, i like this style. If they make changes before release, then good for them. But, don't be too wound up about the way it looks. I'm more concerned about the way it plays, right now.
Online. You can't ask for more than that!
Question is, how many players?
Haden
23-08-2006, 10:54 AM
Please Please be at least 4 players. As then 2v2 willl rock. Also a game like this needs voice chat if your playing co-op. Man alive though base building and 4 player online mode would be wonderful.

This game is going to be awesome, providing that Nintendo can get the online to work. I loved the cube version and the only thing that was wrong with that IMO was the lack of a multiplayer option but they have sorted it out.

i thought i read somewhere that it was 4 player online. ive checked ign and nintendo-europe, but i cant remember where i saw it.
well i saw it but it was for strikers: "Strikers offers anywhere from one to four players."
4 player for this online would rock.

Finally , the conference provided us with something to look forward to.
The first game was absolutely amazing but cried out for multiplayer/online. Although not grapically outstanding (as yet) , this doesn't really look like it can fail.
I think its safe to say that I already need this game.

That ship is way too underarmed...
Oh, and the game is at least 4 player and has a CTF mode :)
I want to go and play the original again now, pity I won't be getting my cube back off my mate who I leant it to until tommorow. :(
It's 4 players online! From the preview it seems very cool and it still has a lot of time. Now I can't wait!

Crystal Chronicles? (Oh WHOOPS! More Wii stuff we don't know anything about!)
What the first game desparately lacked was a co-op mode. These new multiplayer elements might make this game worth getting.

I haven't completed BW yet but I'm definitely getting this one. Especially with the wiimote this should be excellent to control.
Multiplayer is really good news too but I hope for a full 2 player mission coop, that would be so much fun.
I agree with system_error; it looks like the GC version.
I think they started developing the sequel before they got their hands on Wii devkits and it wasn't updated in any way except for the controls because otherwise these graphics would indeed by disappointing for a Wii game.

I really liked the gameplay of the first, it was great but the game lacked missions(a bit anyway, altought there where really cool extra missions) but most importantly multiplayer. And this seems to deliver that great! This is now my third or fourth most wanted Wii game.

Under "Judging a book by its cover", or more precisely "judging a game by a couple of screenshots", here's the hands-on by IGN:
http://wii.ign.com/articles/727/727651p1.html
The first thing we noticed were the graphics were greatly improved compared to Battalion Wars on the Cube. The characters are more detailed, the environments look and feel bigger and more realistic, and the effects are quite impressive. The game does still have its comic-like look which is going to make the game very familiar to fans of the first Battalion Wars.

People have to stop judging things from one screenshot, the videos for this game look really good and it seems to have a ton of potential gameplay wise.
Something about Wii graphics by the way is that since they're not going to be using fancy next gen effects for the most part most of time they're only going to really look better than current gen in videos as opposed to screens, because most of the improvements are things you see better in motion like better draw distance, better graphical effects like smoke and what not (like in this game and Prime 3), more characters onscreen, bigger areas, better lighting, all that kind of stuff. You really have to watch a video of a game before exclaiming "THAT LOOKS JUST LIKE THE GC VERSION!!"

Also from ONM (taken from Cubed 3)
# Players can play as the various different races throughout the game, with varied vehicles, troops and surroundings to use and explore.
# The Wii hardware has allowed the developer to create larger, more expansive worlds, special effects and extra details that weren’t present in the original, "expect to see great water in the game!"
# Attacks take place in the air, ground and seas:
# Naval battles have been added for some beach/sea battles.
* Frigates – Fast, easy to manoeuvre and come packed with armaments. Can locate submerged crafts, like submarines.
* Submarines – Stealth tactics when deep underwater, but very venerable when surfaced.
* Dreadnoughts – A large craft packed full of armour and weapons. Powerful but slow.
# Kuju and Nintendo have tried various control schemes, and ONM notes there could be the possibility of different setups come launch, depending on one’s preferences. The current setup:
* Nunchuck Analogue stick – move units, standard control.
* Flicking the nunchuck allows soldiers to jump and roll!
* Nunchcuk trigger – allows player to lock onto the selected unit.
* Wiimote – pointing device to move around the screen, used in combination with the analogue stick to turn/strafe.
* D-pad – used to cycle through commands/select individual units.
* Wiimote trigger (B) – main firing trigger.
* Wiimote A – context sensitive action button.
# The game will feature over 20 missions for the single-player mode, and 15/16 multiplayer maps. ONM has praised the current multiplayer build, “it really shines in that department”.
# There are currently 3 multiplayer modes for co-op battles, standard versus and arcade styled battles.
# The game has Wi-Fi capabilities that are “very much supported”, for those looking to take on the world. As with the standard multiplayer there are currently 3 modes to work with:
* Co-Op: Go head on with a friend to defeat an enemy, with different scenarios and players controlling different types of units.
* Assault: One player defends, the other attacks for an all out… assault!
* Skirmish: Complete strategy battles – capturing bases, placement etc.
# BWii is set for release in the first half of 2007.

I think it looks very good in motion.Yeah I agree!
I wouldn't really want realistic rock textures etc... I like the cartoon look of the game and I think if the graphics went too far and were similar to those of Kameo for example, it would ruin the look of the game.
When I first saw Battalion Wars 2 in motion, I almost thought it was abit too polished and preferred the look of the gamecube version.
However, I think they've got it just right and the draw distance is great!
