There is a hint that Ubisoft will develop a peripheral for their GT game as well. Plus the news that they have many more titles in development.

7 LAUNCH TITLES!!!!!!
Ubisoft are absolute legends!!
Of their games I'll probably get (though probably not at launch);
Rayman, Red Steel and Far Cry.
It's GREAT news that the Wii is getting a realistic racer with GT Pro Series, because that's a genre the Gamecube always missed out on; but Wii will have one there at LAUNCH!!

I hope it's the most recent FarCry with HDR and everything but actually I'm a bit surprised by that move. It's been out on PC for a long time now.
I'm quite happy they released Blazing Angels. I'm so longing for a flight simulation (I even enjoy TopGun DS) and if you can hold the Wiimote like a big joystick this will be a must have for me.

Ubi's 5 extra games pushes launch number to near 30 titles. If Ninty are to add more that makes 35.....??
Im in sheer disbelief that the Wii will have circa 35 launch window titles!
This means that between 1st October and 31st December we could possibly see up to 35 games for the Wii.
This is mind blowing stuff really!
Beats GC's launch for me already!

Publisher Ubisoft on Thursday morning announced that it would bring seven new games to Nintendo's Wii console in time for the system's launch. The company's seven Wii efforts include the previously revealed Red Steel and Rayman Raving Rabbids, as well as Far Cry, Blazing Angels, Open Season, Monster 4x4: World Circuit, and an exclusive new racer called GT Pro Series. IGN recently chatted with Ubisoft North America's president, Laurent Detoc, about whether or not these games could realistically be called ports. And could Ubi be planning a Wii accessory for its new racer? Keep reading.
IGN Wii: Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions. What is your opinion of Nintendo's Wii console? Do you think it can compete at retail against Xbox 360 and PS3?
Laurent Detoc: Ubisoft believes in the Wii and we always have. We saw great potential in the platform from the beginning and as you know, have made a huge splash with Red Steel at E3 and now Rayman Raving Rabbids. Both of these games were built from the ground up for the Wii. Wii is a different video game experience than the Xbox 360 and PS3. It's unique, immersive and redefines the experience of playing games. We think it's going to be a hit.
IGN Wii: Seven Ubisoft launch titles for Wii! That's a lot of support. What is driving your decision to bring these games to Nintendo's new console?
Laurent Detoc: We made a bet by starting development for the Wii earlier than others and we intend to maintain our advance on the platform. You can see it as a double-down move. We don't have a crystal ball but we think the Wii is going to be a huge success right away and we want to be the number-one independent publisher for Wii in 2006.
IGN Wii: You announced Far Cry for Wii. Will this be a port of the Xbox version or based more on the 360 game? What can we expect in terms of graphics and gameplay control from this version of what is a very popular franchise?
Laurent Detoc: First, Far Cry Wii will include elements from Far Cry Insticts Evolution, in addition to a fresh storyline, new maps, characters and equipment. Second and even more importantly, Far Cry has strong diversity of gameplay so the game is a natural fit for the Wii remote.
IGN Wii: Far Cry will be releasing against Red Steel, another first-person shooter from Ubisoft. Are you afraid of cannibalizing your own sales?
Laurent Detoc: At first glance people think the remote is perfect for swinging movements like in baseball. I think FPS with varied gameplay using the Wii remote will be a blast. Both games will be excellent and offer different experiences.
IGN Wii: What major changes, if any, can we look forward to with the Wii version of Far Cry?
Laurent Detoc: You will be able to shoot using the remote; you will also be able to throw grenades, punch, jump, run and balance to keep from plunging to your death. You will also be able to drive cars, trucks and boats. If you're looking for a game that allows you to experience the true beauty of the Wii and its revolutionary remote technology, this is it.
IGN Wii: How will Blazing Angels be enhanced for Nintendo's new console?
Laurent Detoc: For a dog fighting game like Blazing Angels, we think the best idea is for the player to separate their two hands. The left and right hands will perform separate roles with less crossover and collaborative control patterns. Players will have an easier time concentrating on one hand while using the other to facilitate simple routines.
IGN Wii: How will Monster 4x4 be enhanced over the previously released version?
Laurent Detoc: From Day 1 we had a research team work on all the ways to exploit the remote and while Red Steel was unveiled first, driving controls have been studied ad-nauseum for a while now. So for Monster 4x4 we rebuilt the controls to use the motion-sensing features and aimed for easy controls with a focus on intuitiveness. This enables the best emotion possible in a driving game: you feel like you're at the wheel.
But it's an arcade game too so be ready for stunts. Your truck can do a donut when you make a circular movement.
IGN Wii: What can gamers expect from the racer GT Pro Series? The game seems to be exclusive to Wii. How does it use the remote to better the racing experience and what sort of features, cars and options can we expect in the finished product?
Laurent Detoc: GT Pro Series is inspired by a Japanese game that was never released here and Ubisoft is optimizing for the Wii. It will have more than 80 licensed cars, tons of tuning options and its fluid drift-style controls and physics. Talk about how the Wii changes the way you play games, we're working to include an accessory in GT Pro Series that will make this game a must have. Stay tuned, literally.
IGN Wii: Are there online modes planned for any of these games using either Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection or WiiConnect24?
Laurent Detoc: We will be able to provide more information on this feature for each of the new games soon.
IGN Wii: Finally, any final words for Wii readers anticipating these projects?
Laurent Detoc: From what I've played and observed, the Wii will be successful. It changes our entertainment experience as gamers. It is innovation at its finest. As a creative company, Ubisoft embraced the remote as a gold mine for our talented developers to imagine new ways to play and interact with their TVs. That's what you will get from us across seven games in four different genres.
New Far Cry :D

Its fantastic to see such support from Ubisoft. Not only are they praising Wii to the hilt, but they're putting their money where their mouth is and developing for the Wii (and seem to be fully utilising the Wii-mote).
With EA "ramping up" their Wii development, and Midway also pushing titles forward, the Western developers have embraced Wii far more that many larger Japanese developers have (Capcom, Konami, I'm looking at you..!).

This is great. Even if no-body outside these forums buys the wii, we're going to have the best launch of almost any console. As a student I only get my student loan to buy everything, so I'm going to have to give up eating for a few weeks to afford all these games.
No-ones going to be able to complain about Nintendo's third party support this generation. woot

An announcement press release from Ubisoft specifically indicates the seven announced games are meant for Wii's launch date, not the "launch period" we had originally suspected. The company also promised "more" games are in development for 2007.

Loving Ubisoft right now. They are really into the Wii and believe in it and Nintendo. The fact that they are developing a peripheral for GT Pro is very interesting. I'm sure it will make many developers look up and see what they can do.
Will most likely get both Far Cry and Red Steel. We must show our appreciation of their support. No doubt Prince of Persia is already in development, and hopefully a new Splinter Cell.

Yeh but launch games usually sell really well so its quite a wise move.
I hope Ubi get repaid for their efforts in the Wii.
Anyone concerned at the lack of eastern support?

There has been talks about Resident Evil Wii. There's some RPGs heading for it, Dragon Quest and FF:CC I think. Good old Sega on the vitual console. It might not compare with what Ubisoft is offering but I woulden't say there was a lack. EA support everything.

EA support everything.
EA are the gaming equivalent of a good bra.. it'll support what's there but you'd kinda rather it just wasn't there..
(I'm only joking by the way.. before the 'pervert' insults start flying around :heh:)
The Ubisoft support is great though.. like a Wonderbra..

Well its best that Nintendo's nipples aren't showing and that EA is there. We wouldn't want another Dreamcast now would we?
thomaschung
05-08-2006, 10:14 PM
Give EA a break, they make games people buy and Wii definitely need them on board with all the Need for Speed and Fifa games.
We will see the Eastern support grow once they see how phenomenal the Wii does at launch. Seriously, I anticipate another DS Lite kind of performance in Japan.
It has to be said some of these developers are a bit slow getting on board. Konami, Temco, Capcom and even Sega have only about 1 game each announced. Square Enix is slightly better.

7 games on lauch window is a feast!! Let's see if the games stack up to the hype Ubisoft of America president puts on them. At least Far Cry and Red Steel are bound to be at least good.
Why Ubi, why? I barely have any money already

Because the Gamecube showed that people with a Nintendo console normally buy lots of first party games and leave out the rest. It is hard for a third party developer to sell his games against Zelda, Metroid, Mario, ...
Exactly, Ubi are taking a risk with this one. But hey, you've got to take risk to become succesful, and Ubi are right on this one. With Red Steel and Rayman they've been hyped mucho already and their Wii launch should be fantastic.
I'm really looking forward to Far Cry.

FAR CRY <3<3<3<3
That's what I thought. I've never played it, but it's supposed to be pretty good isn't it?!...Ubisoft is going all out it seems, helping Nintendo make a console that really is for everyone (within reason :heh:). The whole problem with the GC is that companies just abandoned it cos they weren't selling many games to start with, therefor causing it to lack in many of the more 'mature' genres.
Software companies don't seem to realise that it's mostly the software that 'defines' a console.
Goron_3
06-08-2006, 06:17 PM
I haven't played it either but am also REALLY hyped for it :P
What's even better is that the Wii is getting FPS games early in its life-span (whereas the DS didnt even though it's perfect for them).
Hopefully EA will announce a RTS for it too

yay prince of persia's been confirmed as being in development for Wii :D
Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!
I hope they can compile the trilogy and revamp the controls and graphics. I'd buy that, as the Cube versions had horribly compressed FMVs, PS2 graphics and PoP 2 sucked the way it was designed.
A new storyline would be even better though.
