View Full Version : Lost in Blue recieves disappointing reviews...

And there was me hoping for an 80%+er at Gamespot/IGN. Well, the Gamespot review is still to come but IGN gave it a disappointing 6.8
The touch sequences are clever additions, but aren't really fun to play for the extended run of the game, and the visual update doesn't bring with it more complex modern gameplay. What we liked about Lost in Blue wasn't developed as fully as we wanted, and the mix of action sequences just doesn't seem balanced with the game's regular pace. We wanted more to do, more to see, more to experience. It sounds odd that we found ourselves yearning for more menial tasks and daily labor to do in a videogame, but when you're stuck on a desert island, boredom is as big a killer as the blazing sun and battering winds.

Sounds like it had such potential but didn't live up to it :hmm:
I hope Gamespot reviews it at least in the 70 zone because I trust them the most.
1up gave it 75%, and nintendo Power 80%, so you never know, it could just be IGN personally don't like it. i'm disappointed though

Yep I'm a bit disappointed by this also but it could just be IGN being silly again so we'll have to wait and see. Owen is expecting the game from VGP so hopefully he can post his opinion of it soon.

Anyway I just got Advance Wars today so I'm not too bothered at this precise moment, if Lost in Blue turns out to be OK then I'll try to squeeze it in-between Trauma Centre and Mario Kart!

I had Stranded Kids on GBC and it was a bit boring, frankly.

Maybe it just isn't the reviewers kinda game.

imo, this is like camp, but in a game. I never really had much interest in this game, and I thought the review was pretty in-dpeth as IGN provided many reasons why the game recieved that score.

It was one of the titles that I was interested in out of the pre-christmas releases, but as there's so many decent games coming out in November, this may be one of the games I'll have to pass up on.

I've yet to read the IGN review, but I don't usually doubt their opinion, and I trust they've given it a fair going over. I'll read through it tomorrow though when I've got the spare time.

My copy is in the post :D

I tend to remain sceptical about reviews, as I have enjoyed many supposedly "sub-par" games in the past. Hopefully this and Lunar will have enough pulling power for me for the next week or so until Black and White 2 comes out.

Man all the DS games I've been looking forward to lately are turning out to be duds.

I don't always trust reviews but this isn't very encouraging.

hmmm, I'm not getting thiis one, but this is going to discourage most gamers (like me, I maght've bought it if it got better, but nope) also:
Hey, guys, remember how I said I was getting broadband? Well I am, This means I will have to change E-Mails, So I will probably have to make an account (I plan it too be similar to this one eg: Nintendo is cool, that's what I plan to go with) So I was wondering if I can change my accounts email? (may be posted multiple times ;) )

The way I'm reading the two reviews, so far, is that the reviewers were expecting an adventure game with survival elements, the reality is that it's a survival game with adventure elements. It means the emphasis is more on figuring out how to survive until you can reach a point where you're able to be fairly self-sufficient and can then start exploring. Both reviews I've read talk about leaving the girl behind and her then dying, unless you're absolutely forced to do that, why not take her with you when you go exploring? Some of the videos have shown the two of them wandering around the island, with the boy helping the girl get across difficult areas of terrain. Maybe they should be looking at the game as a more free-form version of "ICO"?

I have been playing it for the past 4 days and I can assure everyone, the game is clever and fun to play. It has nice graphics, some very relaxing music and a lot of stuff for you to discover. Yes, you're on an island and you are required to dig out vegetables and hunt for fish on daily bases at start, till u can go for the bigger animals, but hey! You're struggling to survive right? And the game really gives u that feeling. It's pretty hard to master at first, but after a few game overs you'll be able to stay alive and go for long distances, finding new things to attempt leaving the island. It's kinda cute too when you're making the fire in your cave, the girl is cooking and then u eat together. Afterwards you hold hands and go out for a drink from the river.

I have played it for about 10 hours now and I can't say I'm not having fun. I never played a DS game as long after eachother as this one. It's addicting

I've heard a lot of positive things from gamers, so perhaps it just wasn't the reviewer's thing?
I'll see, Gamespot and NGC are usuually the two I trust the most.

Stocka, you know me, I'm really critical. This game is awesome !

I have played it for 12 hours now after counting my days and how long it takes in real time.

It's incredibly rewarding when you find some new stuff and there's a lot in this game to keep you going while it's all pretty repetitive ( running from point A to B over and over again ), it doesn't get that bad because you always try to plan ahead like THIS TIME i'm going for vines, and THIS TIME i'm going for food, while finding new things on each trip :).

Really cool !

A minus I encounter now is that you're left to find out a lot of stuff by yourself, not only fun stuff you like as a suprise, but also gameplay mechanics. Like how exactly you have to build furniture and use your bow and fishing rod :) , but i managed to find it all out so hooray !

his game can't score under 8 for me at this moment.

Some lad on Gamespot has given a reader review. This also has boosted my hopes for this game...

"If your a fan of the Harvest Moon series, take a moment to check out Lost in Blue. It has the same basic elements minus the crop/animal raising.

After a fierce storm at sea your character, Keith, finds himself washed ashore on a "deserted" island. Soaking wet, tired, hungry your first goal is to find some food. The only thing edible at this early stage is the coconuts laying around, they will do for now but don't provide much.

The bottom screen shows the action while the top screen can be toggled to show three different things. Two different maps, and your characters stats. The stats view is what you will want to keep an eye on most often as it can tell you if you if your about to die...."

Amazon.com reviews are also positive. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00092A720/qid=1128306934/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-5638334-4305407?v=glance&s=videogames&n=507846

As I've said plenty of times, reviews are just other peoples opinions, try developing your own opinions. If I went by reviews I would have had one boring summer last year.

Go buy Kirbys Air ride.

Deer hunting is suprisingly hard at the moment. My wooden arrows with stone arrowhead just bounce right of a deer ! lol Back to fish for me at the moment :)

I got this this morning, and it was pretty interesting and engrossing for the 15 or so minutes I played it before dying of dehydration. Whoops! Better planning next time I think.

The games sounds fascinating, but very time consuming. I mean, do you just keep on going, or evenetually do you find your way OFF the island!?

Might wait till I can get it cheap. Got a lot of games to be playing and lots of work too!!

This game is really starting to frustrate me now - it seems almost impossible to keep the stupid kids from having between 0-5% of their stomachs full. I mean, I made the girl cook all my food for us and it went to about 45%, then after a night asleep it was back down to 0%! I guess that makes sense, but the constant agonising search for food is starting to drive me to distraction; although luckily I have now made a spear to catch fish, so I have a better supply of food. Cant even think about exploring though, as the stupid kid is always moaning about being tired and starving. I never felt this hampered during Harvest Moon - and thats saying something!

One you need a lot of patience with I think.
