Ubisoft confirmed they were working on a next-generation Naruto game back in April, but many assumed development would be outsourced to any number of random Japanese companies. Turns out the publisher's taking the Xbox 360 release a little more seriously; Ubisoft Montreal's been tasked with development.

Lets hope it's a good game.. and not a fighter.. I have had enough Naruto fighters.

Another game on that 'leaked' Ubisoft release schedule comes true. Pretty much confirms Assasin's Creed will indeed come out on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PSP and PC like it says.

More on topic, I'm not into Naruto but it's great to see lots of japan based games being made for 360, I am delighted about Trusty Bell.

im suprised nobody is talking about this now. There is a lot more known about it it like you can fight Neji and you can run around the hidden leaf village like GTA you can go anywhere and just choose what mishions you want to do. The fighting looks good like the gamecube game or maybe the PS2 game but I never played that Narultimate Hero I think.

The graphics look really good but all the videos i can find are in french! I saw the HD trailer though.

Take a look cant post website for some reason copy paste this:

I really can't wait for this one, it looks like it'll be the best Naruto game yet.

It's also been confirmed that the game will cover episodes 1-80 from the series. So there's going to be plenty of awesome content! I cant wait to play through the Haku and Zabuza saga, the Chunin exam saga will be interesting too. I also saw a video of the multiplayer mode, and I noticed that Naruto, Kakashi, Neji and Kiba were selectable characters. There's deffo got to be loads more available in the final version, Sasuke and Gaara were also shown fighting in the E3 trailer.

I'm getting this and have only ever played one Nurato fighting game on the GC.

Will this start from the beginning of the story and help newbies understand the characters etc..? I would hate it to be a game that only Nurato fans can understand.

It's looks great though!

I think it's going to be an action/adventure rpg. If you've played Uzumaki Chronicles, then think like that (except that this will be a lot better than that game. :heh:)

This game covers the plot of the actual series from episode 1 to episode 80. So it should give you a good idea on what it's all about.

I got to play the beta :) (German version). I got 20min of footage. It follows the anime pretty close in the start, it has many scenes from the anime series put into the game (English dub). The game is freerooming adventure like game. with loots of side quests. But at predestined places the game turns into a fighting game with very basic controlls. The game is filled with naruto stash, and ubi did a great job with the naruto license.

How was the seals? I remember you had to press LT then do analogue stick combinations. If that's still it did that work well?

DiemetriX
11-09-2007, 10:47 AM
yeah. Thats the way you do them, and it works well. They are very simple so you'll probably remember them all. You can also go into your inventory screen to see all the combinations you have learned. You use both analog sticks and you will see Naruto forming the seal with his hands.

Sexy no jutsu: Press LT | down down | left right | Release LT

That looks great! I really like the idea of having to perform hand seals using the analogue sticks. Just mashing buttons in previous Naruto games didn't feel right. I'm glad that you can see all the combos in the inventory too, I was worried about forgetting about the moves in combat. Nice one Ubisoft! ^^

Now, just to wait for the rest of the footage you got, I can't wait to see it!

Shorty
15-09-2007, 07:45 PM
The handseal idea is nice, but at the same time... since when does Naruto need several handseals to do a kage bunshin? Or any hand seals to run up a tree? Naruto running on water and vertical surfaces should be normality once you learn it. Not something confined to trees that are glowing blue. It would make the street running in Konoha so much more awesome if you could just run sideways along any wall...

ShadowV7
16-09-2007, 02:41 PM
As cool as that map and footage looks I always imagined Konoha was bigger :heh:

But anyway it's looking amazing so far and I can't even wait just to roam the streets. But Naruto only does one Seal for Kage Bushin and none for walking on trees and water but either way I won't care to much it's still looking fantastic.

But that footage just looks lovely.

I want to pre-order it but right now we don't know if it's going to suck or not.... I mean it looks mostly promising right now, but we really haven't seen enough of it. Just Konoha and Neji over and over again.

Does anyone think regular fighting would've been much better than a flat beat-em-up style?

Here's what I would love to see in a Naruto game:

You're playing as Rock Lee, you have the camera behind you, like Zelda or something. The boss of the level is Gaara. He's just standing in the middle of the room, arms folded, launching out sand at you. You can dodge around him, double jump off the air and speed boost. You can throw Kunai with B. Your task is to dodge the sand and get close enough to try land a kick :D

Now that's what I want to see. Fights shouldn't be limited to beat em ups with health bars. That's not how the fights take place in the manga.... Naruto shouldn't beat Neji just because he dodges the Hakke Rokujuu Yonshou and lands twelve combos til his HP drops. Neji should be like a 3 stage boss or something.

Making the fights like Ubisoft has just seems like laziness to me. It could've been so much more. Still, the exploration/RPG side looks enjoyable. Fingers crossed it works :)

C'maan Rock Lee is like... Dave Mariner in Waverace 64. You're going nicely around Marine Fortress and you start the last lap in first place, no pressure. Then out of the blue, he knocks into you on a corner and you finish fourth cos theres not enough time to get back on the jetski and catch everyone up. By the same token in Naruto, everythings looking good, theres no sign of either Gai-sensei or Lee... then before you know it, bam! There's Lee striking his "nice guy pose" and whinging about how he can't do proper chakra based moves and all his hardship... and derails my Naruto enjoyment. :heh:

Now, being more slightly-on-topic(ish), has anyone seen that Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 2 is out? My girlfriend got it the other day, and it's awesome! Definitely a lot more polished and refined than the first Ultimate Ninja. It even has a proper story mode, although it can be a bit random sometimes.

The online mode, I remember reading up is kinda like a King of the Hill 'type'.
You go online and fight against someone the same skill as you. If you beat them you get a certain amount of points then move up in skill level.
You keep fighting more and more opponents until you get to the highest rank where you have to retain that.
This is all from memory so excuse if anything's wrong. The online achievements are mostly collect so many points to get to a rank like Jounin.

Mines would of aswell but there was a bank problem. When I went to put money in the server was down so they couldn't put in money straight away and said it would be in later today, but it didn't get in fast enough and my order got rejected T_T

Let me know whats it's like for newbies. I did have it on preorder but cancelled it due to the amount of games coming out!

Seems rather cool though and £29.99 ain't bad!

I like adventure games, hopefully it's fun for everyone and not just Nurato fans, but like a couple of you said earlier in the thread, it starts from the beginning which is great!

Glad I booked Friday off work, I'm gonna be playing all day long. Whats this about Japanese voices, that will be pro as long as text stays in English. :p

Yes, it is. They mean relatively similar things but Believe it is such an awful phrase, they actually dont use it much/at all in the dub any more cos they had so many complaints. I will definitely use Japanese!

ShadowV7

They actually removed that!? Thank god. You have no idea how much that annoyed. Annoying as hell hearing it, it's like scratching your own ears. Japanese is much superior. That's the type i'll be playing through the game with.

Impressions from Kotaku

There I was, standing in the middle of GameStop yesterday, holding a copy of TimeShift in one hand and a copy of Ubisoft's Naruto: Rise of the Ninja in the other. I only had $60 to spend, and the cashier behind the counter kept chanting, "TimeShift...TimeShift.." over and over again in a monotone voice. On the one hand I had been waiting for TimeShift for over two years. On the other, my nephew might come over this weekend and he loves him some Naruto. Having kicked a Frag Doll's ass at the game earlier this year, and being a good uncle, I had to go with Naruto. To my surprise, it turned out to be one of the best purchasing decisions I've made in quite some time.

Rise of the Ninja is really two games in one. There's an adventure game in which you run around Leaf Village doing quests as you follow Naruto on his rise from an obnoxious orphan everyone despises to an obnoxious ninja everybody seems to like. Then there's the fighting game, which allows you to test your ninja prowess against friends both online and offline. Statistically speaking, at least one of the two should suck. It is a licensed game after all, and while there have been several spectacular Japanese Naruto fighting games, this one was created by Ubisoft Montreal - the first non-Japanese developed Naruto game. Somehow they completely beat the odds. Both modes are pretty damn entertaining.

Tales Of The Obnoxious Ninja

Story mode features you as Naruto, running around Leaf Village doing quests, powering up your fighting moves, and going on missions that carry you through the storyline up to Naruto winning...some big thing. The Chunin Exam, possibly? Not being a big fan of the anime itself didn't stop me from enjoying story mode. It just made me terrible at writing about it. There's this evil sand guy, who tries to kill the bushy-eyebrow kid after nearly killing him anyway. I'll assume it does a pretty good job of following the story, because at several points I recognized moments from the Cartoon Network episodes I managed to catch.

The action in story mode is a mix of platforming craziness interrupted by rounds of fighting. Say you are running through the woods and a bandit appears. In JRPG fashion you enter a battle screen which plays out like your standard 3D fighter. Despite a bunch of fights against the same four or five types of fodder over and over again, the fighting was always nicely balanced with the platforming so as to never feel tiresome or annoying.

The main fun of story mode lies in exploration. I could run around Leaf Village for hours, just sprinting about, jumping across rooftops, and generally being a little hyperactive jerk, just like the real Naruto. As you level up your jitsu powers, more areas open up to you, providing almost as much of a driving force to complete the game as the story itself.

The neatest thing about story mode as far as I am concerned? Memoclips. As you progress through the game you earn memories after important events, called memoclips. When you fall in battle during your adventure, instead of dying, you are taken to a screen that allows you to select from whatever memoclips you have acquired. Like any fighting anime, when Naruto falls, he uses memories of his past to inspire him to go on. Depending on the memoclip you choose, you'll have a certain number of seconds to tap the A button to recover power. It's such a simple little mechanic, but it adds to the anime-feel of the game tremendously.

Kungu-Fu Fighting

The fighting game portion of Rise of the Ninja is relatively simple. There are only eleven characters to choose from, with buttons for vertical attacks, horizontal attacks, blocking, jumping, and grabbing. What sets it apart from other fighting games is the special moves, known as jitsus. Rather than just using a combinations of buttons to unleash a
jitsu, players must hold down the left trigger, standing completely still until their power reaches the target intensity, indicated by a sort of ring power meter dealie bob on the screen. If you are successful, your character launches into their particular jitsu, which acts as sort of a mini-game. For instance, when Naruto performs the Shadow Clone jitsu, he inputs a button combination. If his opponent matches the button for any particular part of the move, the damage is negated and Naruto misses. While jitsus are extremely power, standing still and charging one up leaves you very open to attack.

Thanks to the simplicity of the battle system, characters animate as smoothly online as they do offline, but trust me...online is where it's at. Specifically the Forest of Death Tournament, which unlike regular fighting tournaments is always open. A persistent world fighting tournament? Once you enter the tournament, you have to win two consecutive matches to enter the Tower of Doom. Win three more matches and you are a champion, taking on opponent after opponent until you fall, all the while gaining points that reflect on your score in the leaderboards. You can of course just play one match against a random opponent for a quick online fix, but the tournament mode is so much more fulfilling, assuming you win. I am not a winner. *sniffs*

Super Sexy Jitsu

I really didn't think I would enjoy Naruto: Rise of the Ninja this much. I expected a passable fighting game with a forgettable story mode tacked on, but what I ended up with was so much more. Now I've got to run out to GameStop and beat up that cashier that laughed at me for buying it.

This game's kinda weak really, they use cut clips that I think were first aired on Jetix ¬_¬ the bit where Naruto goes to stab his hand the screen just judders and goes red... also they miss out vital characters and moments and make the anime look shite. There was no explanation at all for why Naruto threw his kunai to Zabuza! And Inari and Tsunami didn't even feature in the arc, and it's Naruto's effect on Inari and Zabuza that was the key point to that arc.

It's fun to play and everything, but they're taking too many shortcuts to do Naruto justice as a manga.

Also I still can't change the voices over to Japanese.

In terms of the online part I have read on G-Faqs that the disconnecting issue is with the opposing players. If they dont want to fight you due to the charcter you are using then they just quit which sucks. Also, the fact that when fighting online matches it doesnt match you up with people that are the same level/skill as you is a joke.

I can see me trading this in, ah well you win some you lose some.

Ok. So I wait a week for the game to bloody come and now there's an age restriction on exclusive content.
This is getting worse by the minute.

Is the exclusive content finally out? About time, english voices are doing my head in. Age restriction is pointless.

Still can't see any. I'll check in Market Place.

Jap voices are in the exclusive content...well will be.
I really think I might wait and play the game with the Jap voices. I felt like turning it off when I heard 'BELIEVE IT!'
I've never heard something as bad as that.

Because I got angry at its lateness I kinda started to critisize the game while I played. The compass/map was a bit choppy while rotating which caught my eye a few time. You fall extremely fast, double jump ooff a high builing you fall realy fast, like zip down to the floor.
Still, I love just running around.

Played this for about 10 minutes and i have absolutely fell in love with it.

I'm going to get into the Naruto series now and buy the box-sets etc..and any-other cool stuff i can get my hands on!

Why haven't i got into Naruto before?!Please, stop playing the game, watch the anime, uncut and subtitled, all the way up to episode 80 - or read the manga - before you play. You will really ruin an amazing story and not even be able to follow it all. The game misses so many characters, so many important points, so much content and backstory. I'm not faulting them that much, there would be too much to sit and watch, but really it takes a lot away from Naruto.

As a big Naruto fan, I was left somewhat uninspired by the game. I just spent the entire time saying 'well that could be better' or 'hmm here I would've done things a little differently'. In the end I finished it before I got the Japanese voices and I'm fairly sure I'll never play through the main game again. I hope they bring out a sequel and drastically improve all the areas they seemed to cut (big) corners on.

Also where the heck was the hospital in Konoha? Or the dango bar? Or the market? Ino's flower shop? The path out of town with the trees and bench that Sasuke left Sakura on? The Hyuuga or Uchiha clan residence? The rooftop where Team 7 met Kakashi? A lot of Konoha was great, but sometimes I think they didn't use the anime or manga for reference at all :/

The thing that got me most of all though, was that they used censored footage. I couldn't believe what happened when Naruto went to take the poison from his hand x_x

Well, I completed the game now, and it finishes too fast imo. In terms of gameplay, I think it is the best Naruto game, but whilst it's still an enjoyable game, theres too much missed out. And I wish they'd hurry up releasing Shikamaru and the Japanese voices as downloadable content.

I couldn't agree more. There's tons of important plot points missed out, and a lot of brilliant and emotional scenes. It's best to watch the anime first.

I really hope that if they make a sequel (which is likely, considering the scene after the end credits), it doesn't skip too much of the anime too. But I did find it quite enjoyable and I think I will play through it again. It's just not the Naruto experience I was hoping for.

Very good point, I never thought of all this actually. It is a bit rubbish that they didn't add all these areas. I also find it annoying that a lot of the cutscenes, that are taken from scenes within the anime, are in completely the wrong location. Like the scene where the 3rd Hokage announces the chunin exams to the senseis, for example. That was indoors, not on the bloody roof! I do think they used the manga/anime as reference, but just not well enough.

The thing that got me most of all though, was that they used censored footage. I couldn't believe what happened when Naruto went to take the poison from his hand x_x

I know, I hate the fact that they have censored footage too. Mind you, I guess they did it so that the game got a lower age rating.

See when Naruto stabbed his hand in the footage, it almost made me cry.

This is gonna be my first 360 game that i'll get all the acheivemants I think. Just need those coins and a few other side quests.

Funny you should mention that....I haven't had time to play this game but i was beginning to think i'm going to ruin the DVD by playing it anyway!

Now i'm in a bit of a pickle...i'll hopefully get the box-set of the first series for Christmas, so...do i stop playing the game altogether and watch the series first, and then play the game up until the bits i've just watched?

Leaving the game until i've watched all 80's episodes would mean i won't be able to play it for at least a month?! lol :D

No idea what to do now....in your opinion, the game isn't ruined by watching the Series,no?

Also, wheres the best place to buy the Dvd's?!

Thanks for the info mate! : peace:

You should just download the Japanese subs or if there still on youtube, watch them. Only the first 52 episodes are out on DVD here I think.

Should try and hold out on playing the game, you'll appreciate the anime so much more.

I'd play the game then watch the series. That way you'll get the base story and then have it expanded upon

My biggest problem with the game was that as a non-Naruto fan i didn't find that i cared much for the characters. There was very little character building in the game, which sucked big time. I do look forward to a sequel though.

I traded Naruto in today for CoD4

I traded Naruto in today for CoD4There is so much behind every character that you have missed by playing the game first. Gaara's reasons for his hatred and his tragic past, where Zabuza and Haku are from and what they're really aiming for. Naruto's 'nindo' or 'way of the ninja' was never expanded upon. Sakura and Ino's friendship and eventual rivalry, the origin of the three sound ninja, what Sasuke is after and why Orochimaru bit him. Most importantly, the most moving part of the entire second storyline, The Third Hokage vs. Orochimaru and it's finale, were completely skipped out. Wonder what that big smoke explosion was in the stands during the exam finals? That was the beginning of an epic battle.

Honestly I can't imagine feeling anything for the series if I had only played the game, the story was rushed and choppy and half of it didn't make sense. Now if you go back to the anime, you'll get all the expansion and character development you wanted, but you'll know how it's all going to end!

I agree with Shorty, so much has been missed. Every little part of the story they attempt to tell is cut so much. Even the beginning with the scroll.

To be honest I don't think I would like it at all if I didn't like the anime. I think perhaps the only reason I stuck through it all to the end was my loyalty to the series. That said it's enjoyable for a quick go. You could rent it and complete it in a couple of days, with little to draw you back in.

Thats why i look forward to watching the Anime, the game hints at all this stuff. I've got a lot of questions that need answering.

I know the game won't spoil my enjoyment of the Anime because theres so much more to see, but the Anime could spoil my enjoyment of the game if i'd watched it first.

That bit was awesome! Although the battle with Orochimaru and the Third Hokage did drag on a bit in the anime. And it is in the game, but just briefly as images in the background as the credits roll. I find that really annoying tbh. :heh:

I think that the end of the land of Haku Zabuza saga was the most emotional moment in the first series though. I was literally in tears at that moment. Mind you, the finale of the Orochimaru vs. Third Hokage battle had the same effect, but it wasn't as sad imo.
