Sales of the PlayStation 3 have dropped dramatically on the second week of release in the UK, with official Chart Track figures revealing a fall of 82 per cent.
Chart Track data is gathered from 7000 UK retail outlets representing 90 per cent of the software market, including GAME, Gamestation, Play.com, Asda and HMV.
A spokesperson for Chart Track confirmed the figure to GamesIndustry.biz this afternoon, stating: "Yes, sales of PS3 hardware have dropped by 82 per cent."
Last week, Chart Track revealed that the PlayStation 3 had sold 165,000 units in the first two days following the launch, making it the fastest-selling home console in the UK.
"We publish the first week figures because there's such a clamour for them that we can't keep it a secret," said the spokesperson.
This week's software charts revealed that sales of the top two PlayStation 3 titles, Resistance: Fall of Man and MotorStorm, had dropped by over 60 per cent.
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe declined to comment.

Well of course it was going to sell well the first few days, everyone who had pre-ordered or wanted one was going to pick it up when it came out. Now you're left with people who either can wait and are not in a rush to go out and buy it, and people who are just not all that excited about it.:heh:

And it likely it will fall each week still, until some must buy titles get released!

Bear in mind the 165,000 were sold over the launch weekend, so to get an idea of how many were sold last week you'd have to deduct from the launch week's total. And no, I don't know how many that was.

It didnt sell out and nothing has changed between this week and last to make people want one more. So it was pretty obvious that it would happen really. If people wanted one they got it on launch week because they where avaliable.

For a console who's whole business startegy is sustainable games sales, this and the situation in other territories doesn't exactly bode well for the future in any case.

New DMC4 Info
* Series staples remain intact - everything running at constant 60fps.
* Attention paid to every detail in the game is staggering.
* Characters are a lot more expressive in-game.
* High-definition graphics everywhere you look.
* Environments look so in touch with the DMC universe.
* Environmental destruction during battles such as the Variel boss battle are unparalleled with anything ever seen in the series.
* The game will have a crisp and responsive feel when playing.
* The game feels like a PS3 game more than anything else.
* Capcom are making the game so they exceed the break point of what they can handle.
* The camera is much more cinematic now.
* Vehicles can be seen strewn across Fortuna. Cars and vans will be on the side of the roads etc.
* 16x9 aspect ratio. The camera will play a big part.
* More meaning and justification to the cutscenes and flow of the storyline.
* Same graphics engine as Dead Rising will be used to give the basic support to the graphics and appearance of everything.
* Yuji Shimomura will be directing the cutscenes etc. again. He will ensure that the cutscenes will look much more action-packed and more stylish than ever. He understands the universe and Dante so will be able to make the cutscenes suit them.
Characters:
* Nero's Devil Bringer is natural and not difficult to use.
* Dante's animations and expressions will be in the same cool tone as before.
* Dante plays totally different to Nero. He also has the four basic styles from Devil May Cry 3 returning - Swordsmaster, Gunslinger, Royal Guard and Trickster. The core animations still look the same from Devil May Cry 3 but everything has been upgraded to look more natural and enhanced. He's as responsive as ever. Much more like DMC3 Dante than DMC1 Dante in terms of mobility.
* Nero's moves now have button combinations which will go in to the Info thread. Similar presentations in the menu screen as the Devil May Cry 3 moves.
* Vergil was a subject that was avoided as it was reiterated that Dante was one of the main focuses of this game. His character will be built upon. Dante and Nero are the main focus points in this game and in the future of the series. This could hint that Nero will play more roles in the future. Vergil was still not confirmed to be in the game though yet it wasn't said that he won't be.
* All of the cutscenes will be done by Yuji Shimomura
Enemies:
* Variel will be extremely detailed with his battlefield being an epic scrap. Destructible environments will have a place in this battle as Variel destroys everything to get to you.
* The Frosts will be difficult enemies to destroy. They can disappear and reappear. Plus they can attack you in groups.
Nero moves list
Charge Shot - Hold square to charge, then release to fire
"As well as shooting bullets in rapid succession, you can charge up your gun for a slower, but more powerful shot."
Exceed - Pull L2 to charge the EX-guage
"Revving your EX-guage like a motorcycle handle, you can build up to three levels of extra power for your moves."
Streak - While holding R1, press the left stick towards the enemy + triangle
"Streak is a powerful forward strike"
High Roller - While holding R1, press the left stick away from the enemy + triangle
Hell Bound - Face the Grim Grip and press R1+Circle
"Think of this as a a grappling hook-like move that you can use to reach far away platforms - but only if there is a globe to catch.
Buster - Press circle near an enemy
"This attack can be performed after you catch an enemy. Best used at the end of a combo, since it doesn't work well with juggleing.
Snatch - While facing an enemy, press R1+circle
Used to grab enemies in the air or on the ground

PSP, a New Focus On Teen Market
Sony is shifting its marketing focus for the PSP platform to the 13-17 year old demographic, with a new marketing campaign titled "Dude, Get Your Own."
I spoke with PSP senior product manager John Koller this afternoon about the PSP's recent price cut, and he says that the move towards the teen market is based on who's buying the system:
Most of our registered owners database stats have shown the 13-17 year old consumers far outpacing other groups in terms of purchase. The intend-to-purchase crowd is living mostly in that group as well. We're looking to expand beyond where we've been. PSP started as a device to appeal to 18-34 year-olds, but north of 26-27.
More Q&A with Koller on PSP's future after the jump.
"There were a few reasons," says Koller, for dropping the PSP's price now. First, Sony "received some savings on the cost of goods, which we wanted to get to the consumer." Second, "Wal-Mart sold 110,000 units in five days on Black Friday [last year] when they dropped the price to $169." Finally, the aforementioned shift to the 13-17 year old market.
The desire to more directly target that 13-17 year-old market was what led to the All I Want For Christmas Is A PSP campaign last year, Koller said. "That campaign clearly did not work," he said, but it was an attempt to "identify ways of speaking and marketing to that 13-17 year-old consumer. It was an effort to be able to target that individual in a more quiet manner and not go out and promote it and have it be something that was found. The way it was done is not correct... In the future, we'll be more clear and transparent to the consumer."
Going forward, Sony will unveil the "Dude, Get Your Own" campaign.
The idea this year, says Koller, is to "break out of the home cycle." A significant amount of PSP users in that 13-17 group play the device at home. "The teens that are doign this value the ability to utilize the portability," Koller notes paradoxically. By portability, he clarifies, he means "I can play it upstairs while my parents are watching the TV downstairs."
This, of course, is of little value to adults with their own apartments and TV sets. For teens, it is a big draw, which is one reason for the high sales in that group.
But Sony wants them to get it out of the house and "into more of a lifestyle focus." That's the reason for adding the T-Mobile hotspot functionality that Sony touted last month. Koller says that Sony will "regularly launch" firmware updates this year with functionality that is strongly directed at that 13-17 market, although he could not reveal details on any of them.
Sony has found that more and more PSP owners are using the device for multimedia applications, specifically, downloading music and movies from their PC to the PSP. "There's a lot of that," says Koller. In fact, Sony says the "second most valued use of PSP" is as a music playback device. "Music shot up substantially" over the holiday season, he says.
As for releasing a new hardware redesign of PSP that includes more onboard storage, Koller would not say.
In the meantime, Sony isn't giving up on the embattled UMD movie format, although -- again -- they're going after that teen market with "more targeted content, rather than the kitchen sink approach," says Koller. "What we're seeing from studios is that they are establishing what that content needs to be, primarily action and comedy. They're calibrating that towards what the consumer is."
As far as gaming goes, "there are a few titles we're looking at as hardware drivers this year" -- from God of War to SOCOM to "a number of third-party exclusives" which Koller declined to name. Third party makers, though, are on board with the demographic shift, he says. "They're very aware of the direction that owner registrations have been going in. You'll see a lot more teen-oriented titles launching."
Even with the software release list waning, Sony's American branch still remains committed to delivering unique PSP experiences. "We really want to be able to identify ways to set the software apart from console software. Consumers don't want a mobile version" of a game they can play at home, says Koller. God of War on PSP will be "entirely different than anything you can play on consoles."
Finally, I asked what Phil Harrison was referring to when he lumped the PSP in with his "Game 3.0" concept of user-generated, dynamic, ever-changing content. "The PSP, within the PlayStation brand, sits as kind of the cultural object of desire, the ability to take that content with you elsewhere outside the living room," says Koller. "With a number of initiatives coming out, they'll be able to use the PSP in new and exciting ways."

Disgaea PSP isn't a port of the PS2 game. Instead, the story of the title is actually a prequel to the original title, and takes place right after the death of King Krichevskoy. However, instead of focusing primarily upon the adventure of Laharl, the prince of the Netherworld, Disgaea PSP highlights the story of Etna this time around. Not only will players wind up waking up Laharl and helping him along in his quest, they'll also work on turning Etna into the Beauty Queen Ultimate Overlord that she's always wanted to be. In fact, if players manage to achieve this status, they'll wind up unlocking a new secret ending for the game.
Disgaea PSP has suddenly just become wanted!!!
I didn't get one...yet, but i don't mind as i purchased the movie last month anyway. I don't think my brother got one either. A brilliant film it was, just thought they took out some of bonds 'great-ideas' what makes 'James Bond' such a success. They made it more hardcore as well.
I kept forgetting that it was for the whole of Europe 500,000 and not just the UK.
I'm playing Genji more and more now, and for some reason, i'm really enjoying it. It's like a no-brainer game and the graphics are lovely. Really pretty good, just shouldn't have been £39.99, of course you can get it MUCH cheaper now, so i would say it's worth getting.

Halo3 in September?
September is shaping up to be a big month for PS3 games. That’s when we’ll see Heavenly Sword, the ultra-responsive arena-based swordfighting game, innovative dragon-fighting game Lair and the air, foot and vehicle combat game WarHawk, which is still looking likely to be released over the PlayStation Network rather than in the shops. First-person shooter Killzone, too, should surface in September, as well as the first PS3 version of Ratchet & Clank.

If I was your mate, you wouldn't be posting that post right now, as you would already be dead, and buried beneath the garden patio. :heh:
Hmm, if you did that to the Wii with it facing upwards (on the stand), I think it would be as good as buggered. Surely the drink would spill through the disc drive. Maybe that's what saved the PS3 from possible breakage, the position of the drive. :)

Oh and another question
I burned a movie from my computer to a DVD RW and on the PS3 the sound is terrible, all jumpy and cackly, yet the original copy on my computer is fine. The DVD player downstairs plays it perfectly too
Im thinking its a copyright protector deely, thing? Being honest the copy I have isnt legal but dammit I wanna watch 300 24/7 and nobody will come to the cinema with me to see it multiple times so I have no choice
Whats the story then?

Since it's launch Sony has shipped more than 25 million of the portable gaming devices and at least one analyst predicts that will hit 29 million by the end of the year.
And with the recent drop in price, the PSP has already seen a 300 percent increase in sales. This jump in sales, be it a temporary spike or a signs of things to come, comes with the surprising news that the UMD movie format is also making a bit of a recovery. As we approach the heart of 2007, Sony sees this as being the year of the Playstation Portable, a year that saw a price drop and return of the UMD, a year that is seeing a change in the portables marketing and a year that will see a slew of major PSP announcements.
"In 2005 we launched the product, last year about establishing the software," said John Koller, senior marketing manager for the PSP. " think this is going to be the year for PSP, I think it's going to be a fantastic year for it.
A very very good year."
Koller said decision to drop the Playstation Portable to $169 was threefold.
"We got some cost savings out of the product, and we wanted to pass that on to the consumers," he said. "The second reason was we looked at the Wal-Mart experience over black Friday, that was really a good point to go to that price point. Lastly, we are really trying to promote the PSP heavily toward the 13 to 17 consumer group."
That new, younger market that Sony is shooting for is one that has seen a significant increase in the past year, Koller said. In fact, 13 to 17-year-olds are the largest group of PSP owners.
"I think that goes back to content," he said. "A lot of the games that have launched have done a lot to target that group on its own."
"The campaign we are including with the price drop is called Dude, Get Your Own," he said. "We've seen an increase in sales immediately."
In the the first two days following the PSP's price drop there was a 300 percent increase in the number of the portables sold.
And with that increase among teen gamers has come a jump in the amount of downloading. Video is the top type of download, with music coming in at number two, Koller said.
While the interest in downloadable content is at an all-time high, Koller still declined to talk about when or if Sony will be launching its own store for content.
Koller was able to talk about UMD, a format I and many gamers and writers thought was dying. Not only is Sony not thinking of ditching the format, it seems to be making a come back.
UMD movie sales were actually up 35 percent from 2005 to 2006, Koller said. And that jump in sales enticed Target to bring the format back to their stores.
And games too are attracting attention, with more developers creating original content for the portable.
"Our greatest successes take place when publishers and developers recognize the value of the PSP owner as a PSP owner not repurposing a title," Koller said. "We've actively encouraged third parties in that direction."
The upcoming God of War title for the PSP is a good example of that, he said. It will be unique to the PSP, offering an extension of the plot that made the first two games such a success.
"I think you're going to see a lot more of that," he said. "I think third party is starting to understand the value of doing that."
Riding a wave of increased interested, higher sales and better titles, Sony plans to make some big announcements about the PSP in the near future.
"There will be some major PSP announcements this year," he said, "they will be coming over the course of the next few months."

Just as Microsoft's about to introduce a new Xbox 360 SKU, Sony's announced they're removing one from the marketplace. Sony Computer Entertainment America announced today they've officially dropped the PlayStation 3 20GB SKU and will no longer be offering the cheaper, Wi-Fi less model to North American retailers. Sony says a 10-to-1 retailer demand for the 60GB SKU has prompted the move.
Don't panic, though, as 20GB owners will continue to receive the same customer service support they were guaranteed upon purchasing the machine. The architecture between the 20GB and 60GB SKUs are the same, save for a few feature differences, so the shift is minimal from a customer relations and development perspective -- unlike Microsoft, who cannot drop support for the Core SKU, as that model doesn't come with a built-in hard drive.
"At launch, we offered two separate models of PLAYSTATION 3 to meet the diverse needs and interests of our PlayStation fan base. Initial retail demand in North America was upwards of ninety percent in favor of the 60GB sku, so we manufactured and shipped-in accordingly. Due to the overwhelming demand for the 60GB model from both retailers and consumers, we have ceased offering the 20GB model here in North America," said SCEA senior director of corporate communications Dave Karraker.
"In addition to the larger internal hard drive, the 60GB PlayStation 3 features added storage media slots and built-in Wi-Fi not found in the 20GB system. Based on retailer and consumer feedback, we have decided to focus our current efforts on the more popular 60GB model," he concluded.
And so it's official -- less than six months after the launch of the PS3, the 20GB SKU is officially dead.

Just bought Super Rub a Dub for 3.49. Simple and fun stuff, nothing new in design but just simple fun. it got 6/10 on eurogamer.

FFXIII info:
-The game is supposed to be more sci-fi than traditional fantasy;
-Lightning is really the main character
-Several cutscenes will have a "split display" system that will allow to show what's happening in the game to different characters in different locations at the same time;
-Lightning is supposed to be a very mysterious character, rarely talking about herself;
-They still aren't sure if FFXIII will have any mini-games: It is possible that the mini-games are developed into additional, separate releases;
-FFXIII's drama scenes will have an extra sense of presence and impact, thanks to PS3's high-resolution capabilities;
-FFXIII should be just as long as your average FF;
The story details revealed at Jump Festa cleared out (no more confusing/ incomplete translations):
Game will be set on a floating island called Cocoon. A separate world, used as refuge for those who are evicted from Cocon, is called Pulse. The game's plot seems to be more political than most FF games, with a focus on how the governement of Cocoon and Pulse is treating its citizens in its domain. Initially, there is an invasion of Cocoon by beings from Pulse, which leads to a quasi-revolution.
Cocoon, as its name suggests, has developed into something of a haven from the ills of FFXIII's universe, leaving those outside of Cocoon in a dangerous environment. Crystals formed Cocoon, but it seems that Cocoon's strenghts as a fortress are susceptible to infiltration and, more alarmingly for its inhabitants, the prostect that Cocoon could be dislodged from its position above the orbit of Pulse.

Happy Anniversary FINAL FANTASY! Square Enix Celebrates Twenty Award-Winning Years of the FINAL FANTASY Franchise
New Remastered Editions of FINAL FANTASY and FINAL FANTASY II Announced for PSP(R) System
Originally released in Japan in 1987, FINAL FANTASY has been hailed by gamers and critics as one of the first RPGs to create a fantasy world that captured the imagination of players around the globe. Each game has brought new worlds and characters together with impressive graphics and storylines that have evolved into a one-of-a-kind series with a massive worldwide following. With unique characters, vast worlds and compelling storylines, the FINAL FANTASY series has generated its own subculture with the release of 28 console, online and handheld games, two CG-animated films and 49 music soundtracks worldwide.
"So much has changed within the video game industry since the first console was launched, and FINAL FANTASY has always pushed the envelope, creating the most advanced graphics and immersive storylines possible," said Executive Producer Shinji Hashimoto. "It is amazing to see how far FINAL FANTASY has come in the past twenty years, and we cannot wait to continue bringing fans more FINAL FANTASY titles in the next twenty years."
Remastered as two separate titles exclusively for the PSP system, FINAL FANTASY and FINAL FANTASY II are timeless classics that created the blueprints for the future of RPGs. These all-new anniversary editions contain the best treatment of the classic RPGs and feature all-new character art, updated graphics, new dungeons, full 16:9 widescreen presentation and an updated camera view that gives players a new vantage point on two of the greatest RPGs ever made.
In FINAL FANTASY, the tale begins when four young warriors, each possessing a Crystal, are summoned to bring the world back to a harmonious elemental balance. During their voyage, they discover a nefarious entity has created turmoil in the structure of time in order to take control of the world, causing the heroes to travel to places they never imagined possible.
In FINAL FANTASY II, a malevolent emperor has called upon monsters from a demonic realm to take over the world, ending what seemed to be an eternal period of peace. Thousands of lives succumb to their attacks, leaving many children orphaned. From the destruction rise four young survivors who will take it upon themselves to stop the merciless ruler and avenge the death of their parents.
FINAL FANTASY is rated E10+ (Everyone 10 and older) by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) and will ship to retailers on June 26, 2007. FINAL FANTASY II is rated T (Teen) and will ship to retailers on July 24, 2007. For more information about the ESRB, please visit: www.esrb.org. Yeah, you're right.
From wikipedia:
Square Enix recently announced they had licensed Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3 to use on a number of particular next generation titles, but will still use the White Engine for Final Fantasy XIII.[14]. In February 2007, an interview with Square Enix President Yoichi Wada in the Nihon Keizai Shimbun misstated that the game would no longer use the White Engine, and use the Unreal Engine 3 instead to reduce development costs. This statement was recognized as an error by the editor. While the use of Unreal Engine 3 is true for other upcoming Square Enix games, the White Engine is still being used for Final Fantasy XIII.[15]

Shares of Sony Corp., the world's second-largest consumer electronics maker, rose to a two-month high after the Nikkei reported operating profit this fiscal year will beat analysts' estimates on Bravia television sales.
The stock gained 2.7 percent to 6,510 yen at the close on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, after rising to a five-year high. Operating profit for the year ending March 31, 2008, will probably reach 400 billion yen ($3.4 billion), exceeding estimates for 350 billion yen, the newspaper said today, without saying where it obtained the information.
``The Nikkei numbers are just estimates and we can't comment on it,'' said Mami Imada, a spokeswoman for Tokyo-based Sony. Sony is scheduled to report fiscal 2006 earnings on May 16. The company in January said it expected operating profit to gain 20 percent to 60 billion yen.
Chief Executive Officer Howard Stringer targets an operating profit margin of 5 percent by March 2008, about double the current margin. Tokyo-based Sony confirmed today that it will only sell a more expensive version of its PlayStation 3 game console in North America, a strategy it adopted for the European market to bolster margins.
``Profit margin will probably exceed 5 percent if Sony doesn't lower the price of PlayStation 3,'' Hitoshi Kuriyama, an analyst at Merrill Lynch & Co. wrote in a report dated yesterday. He rates the stock a ``buy.''
Shares of Sony gained 28 percent this year, compared with a 0.8 percent advance in the Nikkei 225 Stock Average.
Sony will stop selling the 20-gigabyte PlayStation 3 model in North America, and will only offer the 60-gigabyte version, said Satoshi Fukuoka, a Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. spokesman in Tokyo, confirming a separate Nikkei report.
`Consumer Needs'
``It's in line with our strategy as we had planed to choose models based on consumer needs,'' Fukuoka said. The larger model, which retails for $599 in the U.S. and is $100 more expensive than the smaller version, accounts for about 90 percent of sales, he said.
The company is also considering introducing the model with a bigger hard disk, Fukuoka said, without providing details.
Sony also denied a Nikkei report that it aims to ship 10 million PlayStation 3 units in the year to March 2008, a 66 percent increase from the projected 6 million units for the fiscal year just ended.

However, Nero is the focus so Dante in DMC4 is a replica of his DMC3 combo system, but this time they've added instant 'style' switching to the instant weapon switching. They also updated the animations. (For the people that want to bitch, Dante isn't the highlight, Nero is the focus. So don't bust a cherry about him havin some re-used combat from DMC3)
1080p / 60 fps
Hands on impressions let them fight against Bariel and the twin frost enemies. Says, each boss has to be killed in a unique way. (none of that god of war / shenmue shit either, apparently it has to deal with using the devil arm in unique instances -- for example, "slamming the twin frost demons together via devil arm to finish them off)
"Dante is getting too powerful" says Hiroyuki Kobayahi, and said that "making him the main character would take all the challenge outta the game".
PSM prefer Nero over Dante
-This game ran at 1080p and 60fps when they played it.
-DMC4 is a mixture of the best bits of DMC1 and DMC3:SE
-gameplay is very polished, solid, and responsive, it shames games like Genjiawn of Blade (this doesn't really say much, but sure -- sounds good)
-Two levels were playable, the seaside setting level with the docks, and the Ice level with the enormous gothic cathedral and snow capped mountains.
-Frosts are hard mofos to kill. They can disappear, recharge their health by freezing themselves, and when they freeze, their health is revived almost to the stage when you first started fighting them.
-The move "accelorator" is very handy in this battle, since its "spewing flames and steam" out of the sword.
-Demon arm could be used to slam the frosts.
-Plenty of green orbs spew out if you successfully defeat Frosts.
-Press "select" for neros taunt, in which he says "scum"(Hint to Vergil and Nero similarity?)
-Variel is now known as Berias?
-Nero mocks him by saying "he doesnt tan"
-Berias's face is his weak point. Nero is capable of double jumping to his face.
-When he gets pissed, he sends nero flying backwards with a deafening roar.
-Using guns eventually start ti diminish ihis flames.
-Accelarator gives it the slight edge of doing extra damage(Sword goes firey red when he puts that petrol handle down)
Neros moves:
-Grim Grip: Lets neo stretch out his arm like the bendy one outta fantasic four. he can chuck enemies around, but its main use is reaching distant objects.
Fly Over: While Dante is stuck to the ground - Excluding cutscenes where he regularly darts up the side of buildings, Nero can use the grim grip to pull himself across caverneous gaps. You can do this at set points,so keep an eye out for the blue markers.
-Devil Bringer:Not only does this contiune the fine capcom tradition of "arms that do stuff"(God Hand, Onimusha), but happens to be one of the most interesting things in the game. It gives nero an extra egde over Dante in combat.
-The Red Queen: Neros sword is bettar than neros because it has a motorcycle rev in the handle, if you press R2 in time with your attacks he revs until it glows red, which unleashes nasty flame attacks that get steadily more damaging, so long as you keep your rhythm.
-Another shot of CGI Nero Vs Dante, except this time, without pointing guns at each other, they are weilding their swords.

Im not sure im liking the shift of focus to Nero, especially as I hated the DMC3 version of Dante. He was such a cocky little loud mouth, bring back the broody and mysterious Dante from DMC1 I say.

Whats it like Dom? Game Central gave it a good write up the other day and its budget price has got me interested.
Just got me another PSP after not owning one for a year now, I bought a white one with Monster Hunter. Last time I got one I imported the Jap Monster Hunter game as I couldnt wait to play it, it will be nice to play the english version. I cant start playing yet as my mem card still hasnt been shipped from Gameplay. Also preordered Valkyrie Profile - Lenneth from play.com for £17.99, been wanting to play this for ages now, no doubt Dom has had the US version beaten for a while now

Puzzle Quest is a really neat concept. I've only played it for about an hour so far but from what I played of it I really enjoyed. Basically the lines you delete, by matching three of the same, either horizontal or vertical give you the the line you deleted, so exp lines give you exp, red orbs give you red magic and skulls make you damage your opponent.
Story seems pretty average at the moment, but as I said that is only from an hours time, but my guess is that it's all about the gameplay and it's alot of fun. Great twist on the puzzle genre.

Silent Hill 5 details
Akira Yamaoka has worked on Konami's Silent Hill series for a while now. He was producer on the PC version of Silent Hill3, but he's more famed for his work in the sound department. Yamaoka have given a few details on Silent Hill 5 in a recent magazine interview.
"At the moment I cannot reveal much detail on the story, or our progress, but I can tell you that this game will resemble Silent Hill 2 in the terms of the way the player is directed and the characters' behaviour," he told Game Pro magazine.
"At this time we are still not sure," confessed Yamaoka . "We are thinking of putting the next game on the next generation consoles like PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but we have had a good past experience with PlayStation [where the series was born] and we hope to continue that trend, but there are no definite plans as of yet."

Once again, it seems like a developer wants to keep a game Sony exclusive but can't due to sales.
Looks like they just lost another exclusive. it's really shocking tbh just how much Sony are struggling atm; 07 could prove vital for the history of video games indeed.

Looks like that rumour wii game of Beautiful Katamari Damacy is only for PS3 & Xbox360.
Not really surprising. I still maintain my belief that Nintendo messed up again this generation, this time by trying to get people to buy into their 'Gameplay Over Graphics' ploy. They'll miss out on a lot of multi-format releases because the Wii hardware wont run them.
Not saying that the Wii will flop though, just that they should have ramped it up a bit to make developers lives easier

Thats the reason I want it as well - we must have good tastes. I'm starting to realise the reason why I love to game. Its not about the content/graphics/gameplay. Its the emotions they have over me. Sadness/ happiness etc.
So I take it you can just use the power cable from a PAL slimline ps2 on a US one then HoT.

SCEI and Sony announce Executive Management Transition at Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.
TOKYO, JAPAN, April 26, 2007 – Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) and Sony Corporation (Sony) have jointly announced today that Ken Kutaragi, Representative Director, Chairman and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., will retire from his executive position at SCEI effective June 19, 2007, when SCEI’s annual shareholders’ meeting will take place. Mr. Kutaragi will pass on the torch to the next generation, stepping back from his executive management responsibility of the company to serve as Honorary Chairman of SCEI.
With his deep and instinctive insight into future technology, Mr. Kutaragi will also continue to support Sir Howard Stringer, Chairman and CEO, Sony Corporation, as senior technology advisor.
Concurrently, Kazuo Hirai, currently President and Group COO, SCEI, will be promoted to President and Group CEO, continuing his responsibility as the leader of the PlayStation® business worldwide.
Mr. Kutaragi, well known as the “Father of PlayStation”, invented and launched the original PlayStation in 1994 and its successor, PlayStation 2, in 2000. Since the introduction of PlayStation and subsequently PlayStation 2, these platforms opened up a vast market of computer entertainment. The two platforms combined now have an installed base of more than 200 million units in homes around the world, with more than 2 billion units of PlayStation and PlayStation 2 software titles shipped worldwide. The third generation of the company’s home computer entertainment system, PLAYSTATION®3, launched in November 2006 in Japan and North America and in March 2007 in Europe, will continue to revolutionize the computer entertainment experience with its immense computational power connected to the network.
After completing the launch of PLAYSTATION 3 worldwide, Mr. Kutaragi has decided to pursue his dreams beyond PlayStation and to accelerate his network vision.
“I am happy to graduate from Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. after introducing four platforms to the PlayStation family,” said Ken Kutaragi, Chairman and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. “It has been an exciting experience to change the world of computer entertainment by marrying cutting edge technologies with creative minds from all over the world. I’m looking forward to building on this vision in my next endeavors.”
“Ken Kutaragi is a rare combination of a powerful visionary and entrepreneur in one figure,” said Howard Stringer, Chairman and CEO, Sony Corporation. “Not only has he created a multi-billion dollar business for the Sony Group, he has brought the industry into a new dimension. Sony has benefited tremendously from his vision, his 2/2 creative genius, and from the very strong team he assembled and nurtured. As Ken moves forward to pursue new opportunities, we will encourage and support him. My support also goes to Kazuo Hirai, who is a terrific executive with a proven track record with PlayStation business in the US. I am confident that he will inspire and lead SCEI to new heights.”
USA accounters can now download a demo of Ninja Gaiden: Stigma (is thats what it's called?)
Also loads of trailers etc..
The demo is taking YONKS, 2% in 10 minutes.

I was extremely irked upon my reading of this month's GamesTM cover story on a profile of Square-Enix to find that it was exactly the as this article, bar a different alignment of text boxes and a modifying of the screenshot captions.
Grrrrrrr - extremely annoyed as I bought GamesTM this month for this feature, only to find it was a cheap copy and paste job of an article I'd read weeks prior.

That was when the Game Boy camera was pretty much the only thing that let you edit photos on-the-go. Now most phones have that function (probably why the Game Eye was canned).
£34.99 for a 1.3 megepixel camera...rip-off.

• Sony will release SOCOM Confrontation as a multiplayer-only title for the PlayStation 3. It will support up to 32 players online with full clan support, etc.
• Sony is developing a bowling title that uses the SIXAXIS -- much like Wii bowling.
• Nearly all major first-party titles will be coming out in the fall.
• A Warhawk public beta will begin on May 25 with sign-ups available now.

Eh? I found the Ninja Gaiden Sigma Demo to be beautifull and very fun, as did many other people. I've yet to finish Resistance and MotorStorm, so no, it's not shit for me at the moment.
Also, Lair, Heavenly Sword and Uncharted all look fantastic.

Has MGS4 been delayed from its US release in November? Im sick and tired of arguing it with my 360 fanboy mate, and if Im wrong life wont be worth living.
I think November is a go-go until Konami say otherwise, whats more likely to happen?

Anyone interested in Folkslore? Comes out June 7th 2007 in Japan and will have English voice-overs (supposadely).

Latest PLAYSTATION 3 Firmware Update Provides PlayStation, PlayStation 2 and DVD Upscaling Remote Play on PSP (PlayStation Portable) via the Internet and DLNA transfer of media content also enabled
London, 24 May 2007 – Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) announced today availability of the latest version of the PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) firmware. Version 1.80 features upscaling of PlayStation® and PlayStation 2 games, and DVD movies up to full 1080p HD resolution when viewed on a compatible HD TV set.
The capability to upscale DVDs to HD quality is a feature normally only associated with top range DVD players, and its inclusion in the latest firmware upgrade now allows PS3 owners with an existing DVD collection to dramatically enhance the viewing pleasure of their DVD collection when viewed through a compatible HD TV set1. Not only can DVD movies be enhanced to full 1080p HD quality but so too will PlayStation 2 and PlayStation games be upscaled to provide much improved gaming pleasure.
In a comprehensive update to PS3’s already impressive capabilities, Version 1.80 also allows users to enjoy Remote Play on their PSP across the internet, allowing them to access their PS3 anywhere in the world where a broadband internet connection is available2.
Version 1.80 also allows users on a home network to seamlessly view and play rich media content such as images, music and video on their PS3, that is stored on their DLNA3 enabled devices such as PCs and laptops elsewhere in the house, reinforcing PS3’s credentials as a home entertainment hub that truly deserves pride of place in the Living Room.
A host of other enhancements include the ability to print photo images stored on PS3’s hard disk or inserted storage media to a selection of Epson printers.
PS3 owners will be able to upgrade their PS3 with the latest Version 1.80 firmware from 24th May 2007.
- ends -
Notes
1. DVD-ROM (including DVD Video content) can only be upscaled with HDMI compatible TV sets.
2. Use of Remote Play requires a powered up PS3 with Version 1.80 as well as PSP firmware version 3.50 which will be available at the end of May.
3. DLNA – Digital Living Network Alliance. For more info on DLNA, please see http://www.dlna.org/en/consumer/home

Upscaled PS2 games - Killer app. Seriously! The likes of Okami in 720p? Jesus I need a PS3 right now!
I wonder if that'll work on the UK machines as well since euro machines are software based for the BC and the US/Jap ones are hardware based

I'm wondering the same, but the news didn't say anything about 720p - just 1080p.

It says "up to full 1080p", so that would encompass 720p.
The thought of upscaled PS2 games is tempting me to buy a PS3 sooner rather than later. I'm going to see how it plays out first, though, as if the machine has issues emulating games at their original resolutions I can only imagine HD complicates things even more.

It'll generate the image in SD, then upscale it seperately (stretching, guessing the "blanks"). So it won't effect emulation - except perhaps cause lag.
It's basically the same as opening an image in Photoshop and making it bigger.

I was debating about putting this in the tech thread, but I thought I'd put it here, as PS3 owners might have had the same problem I do, and rom what I've read, it seems you guys in here know a lot about the tech side.
OK, I need help as I'm in a bit of a muddle about the whole HDMI stuff, and I just want some clarity before I order a PS3 as I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I'd really appreciate some help :)
OK, first of all to clarify, HDMI is the best right? I'm lead to believe it looks a shade nicer than DVI, and Component
However, the problem is that I have a HDTV that doesn't have a HDMI plug. Now if I was to buy a PS3 with a HDMI cable, and use a lil DVI to HDMI adapter thing like this:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/images/300/n24cj.jpg
Would that be the right thing to do? Would the image still be better than a one through a standard component cable? Thanks!

DVI is HDMI without the audio, if your TV doesnt have either a DVI port or a HDMI you will need componant.

But I have a DVI port, so it's all aces right?
EDIT: Wait what? So is the only difference between HDMI and DVI the quality of sound?

Yes you can. My PSP was one of the first Japanese models and you could just put any 8 diagram socket into the PSP block to charge it up.
So did anyone get 'crush'. I was thinking of buying it, but wanted some opinions.

They're not at all. For someone who's dedicated to the game, there a loads of little nuances that you have to get used to with each new game in the series. Tekken is one of the only fighters that can be played professionally aswell as on a completely casual level, so some people don't really notice much difference between games, but trust me there is a huge difference betweed say, Tekken 4 and 5...

I understand that it's just I can be bothered with this sort of game just to play the AI as thats no fun. If they aded online and made the graphics piss poor (so no lag) I would be happy as then I would get some enjoyment out of the game.

Capcom not Happy with Sixaxis
On Gamer.TV on Sunday there was an interview with the Head of R & D for Capcom. He stated that Capcom will not be using the motion-sensing capabilities of the Sixaxis controller in any of their upcoming PS3 games. Simply because they believe that Sony implemented it just to be different, rather than to be innovative like Nintendo. Those are harsh words from Capcom. I thought that Devil May Cry was going to use it?

Everything, the controls were horrible, mixing different vehicles seemed incredibly unfair and it's just not as fun as ET. Also, for a console that touts graphics so much there are some pretty bad stuff there.
But I guess it's useless saying these things to you.
