Iwata on Wii controller - “The current design for game controllers was determined by Nintendo, so some of our staff disagreed with changing it. Yet after some hands-on time with the prototypes, we knew we had a working formula. That is why I declared at last year’s E3 that revolutionary interfaces will bring change to future games.”
Iwata on Virtual Console - “When creating a packaged game to be priced at 5,000 yen, developers tend to feel the need to create a rich game. Yet it is possible to create a reasonably entertaining game in 2 months with a team of three. Offering such games for 500 yen over a network could lead to a reasonable number of people purchasing it. By offering an environment that allows this, we hope to encourage more developers to pursue basic yet enjoyable gameplay.”
Iwata on WiiConnect24 - “Let’s say your Wii is connected to the Internet in a mode that allows activation on a 24-hour basis. This would allow Nintendo to send monthly promotional demos for the DS, during the night, to the Wii consoles in each household. Users would wake up each morning, find the LED lamp on their Wii flashing, and know that Nintendo has sent them something. They would then be able to download the promotional demo from their Wii’s to their Nintendo DS’s.”

Some interesting stuff there. :) I really like the ideas behind Virtual Console and Connect24. Downloadable DS demos? Yes please.
I just hope Nintendo Europe does that stuff too. :P

That's going to annoy the hell out of me at night, I'll have to find a cloth or something to cover it up. My Mac Mini's white LED dims then brightens when it's "sleeping" and my mouse bloody flashes, I have to work really hard to get my chair in exactly the right place so I can't see either....
Good news for the rest of the stuff though, DS demo's will be good.

WiiConnect24 sounds sweet, all we need now is them to sort out the online service for setting up games and it'll be awesome.

I don't think it will effect the DL limit if they send you stuff.:awesome:
"You can not offer me this Demo."
"But I'm giving it to you!"
"Don't temp me Nintendo, through it I will want to DL it, but through my Wii it will kill my DL limit!"
"But it won't because we want you to have it."
"Oh, well then give it here!":awesome:

You don't know what download limits are do you?
Internet connections (at least in portugal) have a download limit, while downloading stuff for Wii, you can possibly kill the limit. Of coruse that you can turn the internet off, but I doubt that you can't turn it off and most things will probably be small.

But its WIFI its different than your average internet connection, even if you are running through your ISP.

The amount of information passing through the phone line is monitored at all times. Doesn't matter if there is a network connected to it or whatever.

Yes because anyone offering Wi Fi can not charge for it, its like charging to breath. A cellphone commpany here, Verizone I think, offers broadband Wi Fi in some cities and it does it for free. A company is trying to setup a Wi Fi connection here in my county, for free, and even offering to pay for any construction, and paying a lease on all light polls they add radio devices to, in order to relay Wi Fi signals: peace:

There are some free hotspot here but that's nowhere near a IPS connection, anyway if you have an Internet connection in your house, anything that connects to it , either with wires or wireless, they all get the same bandwith, and therefore the same download limits.

The thing is you're thinking wireless is just made of hotspots. It itsn't. There are free hotspots, but most people use their own internet connection, it makes no difference wether its wireless or not.

for those whose parents pay for their internet service, here is how it works...
your isp monitors your downloads. plain and simple. anything going from internet to your computer is monitored.
depending on what sort of account you have, depends on how this will affect you. a lot of people have an account in which the speed of their connection dramatically drops if a certain amount of downloads is acheived, some will have an account in which you are charged EXTRA. and others have no limit, but usually mommy or daddy are paying a large sum for this sort of account. (or the user actually has a job).
but i can imagine it could get difficult with nintendo sending out stuff.... but id say it would be no concern unless they sent out 20+ demos per night, and even then im sure someone would complain. if you are downloading shitloads of games for the virtual console, you probably have the money not to worry.

Glad I don't have a DL limit (btw whats so hard to understand about them :?). Anyway should you have one don't worry since the wii only has 512MB of internal storage anyway. I'm pretty sure (not positive) that your DL limit is higher than that.

DS demos will be a mamimum size of 4MB (the size of the DS' RAM) so I don't think that will pose too much of a problem.
IMO the smartest thing Nintendo could do with the Wii is to include the USB WiFI Connector with every Wii console. That way anyone with an Internet Connection can connect online (As accessories, aside from controllers and memory cards, never sell!)

So, will 'normal' people be able to create their own games and upload them to Connect24? Or do you need a development kit?

Did I read that right or did it say that we'll be able to download smaller games directly to the Wii over the network. If so that would just be incredible.
He said 500 yen, so thats around £3, 4 Euros. Thats just awesome.
I'm guessing these will be games like polarium and tetris, smaller games that don't cost a lot to make.

Depends. If you have a wireless router, then no. If your computer IS your router (ie the net connection goes through it, then out again, like with the Nintendo USB key thing), then yes.

Lets hope that we can plug it in normally for the internet because the wireless screws all the broadcasting tv thingys in my house

I think I have a 30GB data transfer limit (30GB download and 30GB upload).
I dont think the Wii will be capable of downloading 30GB of stuff during a month!!

There is €10 flat rate in Ireland too. (i think for 30hours online per month)

i wonder if hey could do the samish as the 360 having it hooked straight up to your router, does it have a etherent port on it, the wii? if not then ive got a USB to ethernet adaptor, so i could put that in the back of my wii and hook it up straight to my router. tha would be as awesome as i wont have to have my pc on for the ninty dongle.
also i noticed an LED in someo f the pictures from he TGS i think. wondered what it was.

Nintendo have said that you can buy a USB/ethernet adaptor, stefkov, so you can use your router.
To whoever asked if you could download things at other times - I'm 99% sure there will be an option to turn off downloading things automatically and you can choose when to download them.

As I said, I can only guess that they'll have that option, but it would be one of the worst decisions Nintendo would have ever made not to be able to do that.
To be honest, I really can't see NoE doing things like that for us, most likely we'll get a game demo once a month and new content for games about twice a year.

Yeah, this sounds great, I'm just so annoyed if they use seperate friends codes for each game. For me, if they just had a friend code for each Wii, then, when you type it in you get them come up on your contact list managed in the Wii home menu. Then you can send them messages etc. from there and that list is then used in all of your online games. Simple, practical, and most of all could still be for free (It's similar to MSN is it not?)
What do you guys reckon? Good idea?

Charlie

Probably about £25, most controllers are that price. Hopefully that will include a nunchuck too.
Tellyn
03-06-2006, 01:10 PM
I think they will all include nunchuks, all games require them (or 99% do).
Yeah, it's probably 20 to 25 pounds or 30-40 euros. I hope they do add the nunchuck in the package, Nintendo made comments on that 50% of the games in development use the nunchuck and the other half doesn't.

04-06-2006, 10:09 PM
One option for the nunchuk attachment would be for Nintendo to release a big game at launch that needs it, such as Metroid, and bundle it with that. That way everyone would buy Metroid, and Nintendo wouldn't be losing money because they would have bundled it with the Wii before. Didn't Lylat Wars 64 come with the rumble pak?
Theories theories;)
