We've all had them, plenty of emotional ones especially. I'll start us off with a personal favourite.

Vyse, Aika, Drachma and Fina are all together in the ship when they get attacked by the massive whale, Drachma falls away and it seems like he has died and Vyse gets seperated from Aika and Fina. Vyse ends up on a deserted island, and you go directly 'into his skin' and feel like you are him, as you write entries into the diary each evening and feel lonely, and lost.
That part is so special :)

Tales of Symphonia

Near the end of the game it gets very emotional especially when everyone is scarafysing themselves for Lloyd to carry on. Can't really remember the order, Sheena stays back to fight the remains of the tree she falls down somewhere, Regal leaves you to fight the angels, Presea gets caught by the vines of the tree to save Lloyd, Rain stays in the room that gets shattered and Genis saves you from getting caught by letting himself get caught.
At first i was really sad coz i though that they were dead. But it was Amazing when they all came back to help you fight Lord Yygdrasivile (sp)
One of my favourite games. It's in my Top 3.

The flashbacks in the Hotel scene. I don't want to ruin it for anybody, but it's just incredible as you see everything finally come together. Plus it's done in a way that best most Hollywood films in terms of style and atmosphere.

I'd have to say the same as Nintendo Fan, that part on Tales of Symphonia had me so worked up, by the time i got to Yagdrasill i was so icthing to kick his ass for what had happened.

TOS had many great emotional moments like that but that was the best due to the events that happen in, i think its because the characters are so lovable that you start to relate to them like you would your friends.

Also the ending of Ocarina of Time (by this i mean from when you find the "7th" sage in the Temple of Time up to the end). When Ganon kidnaps the "7th sage" it made me angery, the cut-scene before the battle with Ganondorf reignited my desire to kick his ass six ways from sunday and the ending was just magical

Mario 64
This was the greatest moment in gaming ever. EVER. Just starting the game in the castle garden and experience for the first time full 3d control. Running through the garden with the birds following you and tweeting is just... oh god I'm crying. :P
Zelda:OoT
So many great moments. From the beggining, to Deku Tree's death. Pulling the Master Sword out and striking ganon down. The awesomeness of the ending goes without mention.
Wind Waker The beggining of the game where they tell the story of the Hero, Valoo burning Ganons Tower and the ending. Wow.
Metroid Prime
Controlling Samus for the first time in 3D and entering Phendrana Drifts. Lovely
Super Metroid
The first minutes where everything is silent and moody. Great game
Shadow of the Colossus
The ending. So.Freaking.Beautiful.
New Super Mario Bros
Mario's back bitches! In 2D! Hells yeah!
Eternal Darkness
The beggining and the ending, best narration ever. And all those crazy ass sanity effects, like seeing a guy that hanged himself over a piano.

Yeah it's a big list, so I'll just stay here :P
EDIT:
Anyone that comes here not expecting spoilers has to be retarded.

That was great, but also reminded me of Final Fantasy IV [Which I'm actually playing now on teh GBA] where characters sacrifice themselves to save j00. Most notably Palom and Porom, who turn themselves to stone to stop the walls closing in on you.

Awsome topic. I would have to agree that my fav would be that part in Tales of Symphonia. I honestly shed a couple tears :weep:

Im sure there was another game that almost made me tear! I'll have to look thru my library of games :D It actually might be another part of ToS when Kratos + Lloyd fight..

Clearly we must be playing different games.

Yes, I imagine that death would've seemed special if several people hadn't ruined the reveal beforehand.

Oh, wait, there's something topical going on there.

Yeah okay use spoilers from now on guys.

Halfway through fighting the Shadow Queen at the end of the game, the sequence where all the friends you've met on the journey send their good luck as power, and the crystal stars music plays. As annoying as it got having to watch it over and over again as it took me quite a few goes to complete the boss, it was always a warm feeling.

Guild Wars Factions

I was walking thorugh a particularly hard level on cantha with my team of 8 real players and 2 npc's, we got into this room which trigerred a cut-scene. Tons of enemies poured out of every corner of the map and through holes on the ground, too many for just us to handle. But then you see a group of 8 npc's rushing down the stairs to help you. 17 people surrounding me all casting there spells and skills. Screen as a blur with all the colour, but was a great feeling as we worked together to take out hordes of monsters. Great moment...and game.

Ps. PM me for my name

Not really a spoiler, plus i cant seem to work them??

God there are far too many... but heres a run down.

Super Smash Bros. Melee: Getting the last trophey! :D
FEAR: The ending, enough said.
Pokémon Red/Blue: Beating the Elite Four, then having to battle the "real champion" >_>
Zelda: Ocarina of Time: Pulling the master sword from the pedastool. Awesome... fucking awesome.
Killer7: Some of the story parts with Susie... shes a crazy head.
NEW Super Mario Bros.: Hearing the Mario 1 finishing level music and the fireworks is awesome! :D

I don't think single player moments come anywhere close to multiplayer goodness.

Things like rocking up to the enemy base in Halo 2, dropping in through the roof for a sneaky flag steal with a shotgun to the face for anyone silly enough to try anything. Then wheel-spinning away from the base in a warthog while you and your team mates all laugh their heads off.

And don't even get me started on the WoWz man.

Seconded, when i saw that scene i forgot all about the crappy blood collecting i had to endure to get there. Soooo worth it

Final Fantasy VI Opera scene is one of the most clever things ive ever seen in a videogame.

Beach Spikers- the ultimate social drinking game. I would have said NFL2K2 for Dreamcast but even the girls would stick around and play Beach Spikers

An absolute outstanding moment there. I loved every second of it as it was so epic.

Metal Gear Solid 3

The whole ending was very emotional and well put together and the twist made it all the more welcome. Also when Snake gets the living hell beat out of him I never wanted revenge so much in a videogame.

Final Fantasy 8 and 10

Again the ending sequences for both of these games is truely rewarding and emotional. One of the few games where I have had tears in my eyes when seeing the ending.

when i first played FFVII i was amazed by the cinamatic start and then was buzzing all the way to the scorpion boss once had killed him had to leave store..i knew at that moment i HAD to get this game. (brought for PC :P)

Another gaming moment in bout december i think was killing Razorgore for the first time with my guild on world of warcraft (first boss in blackwing lair). All 40 in the guild were going YESSSSS...AT LAST on the chat and on the microphones everyone was saying well done. During the fight on last 20% of razors HP my heart was on overload. great moment

Completing sonic 1 on megadrive i remember was a good moment as well for me cause at time was pretty young and loved the game so much

Final Fantasy VII. End of disc one.
No idea what I'm on about? Play it.. you'll never play a more enthralling story.

I really have to play Zelda, Killer 7, Metroid, Metal Gear Solid and most importantly Gears of War.

I wish my PS2 hadn't broken.. so many great games i've missed.

Halo - Bowser and T3C have pretty much summed up Halo for me. However, killing Mr CVD with his weapon of choice the Jockgun is spectacular, as well is killing Mike at any time - especially with a turret or a plasma rifle/SMG combo.

Also:

Eternal Darkness - the insanity, the progression of the game and its unique gameplay - all plusses.

Forza - Progression onto the fast cars is great. Then kitting them out with the most outlandish turbochargers possible and listening to them scream around the Nurburgring.

Metal Gear Solid - I completed this game 8 times in one summer holiday. The whole game is a work of beauty and art. Need I say more?

I got the bad ending because I must have run past D's other shoe. It was quite sad for me because it ended with me condemning D to a life as a ghost. I felt awful that I hadn't helped him but he had helped me so much.

Answering the questions to try and work out who shot who

Tales of Symphonia
The whole god damn game was awesome, actually. There were some really memorable bits but the whole thing had a magical feel to it.

Paper Mario 2, once again, the whole game.

AND OF COURSE
Bubble Bobble

When you complete the game, you get this message thingy, which then tells you to work out the code. I have yet to do that, it's too fooking hard to get to level 20 without dying. Then 40. Then 60. etc. But I have beat the final boss ^_^

I'm going to post my special gaming moments, so you should all be weary of spoilers and such. I expect most of you have played these games anyway, so I'll spoil away.

Getting a game to work for the Nintendo Entertainment System

We all remember the flashing button, the black and white screen. The blowing and salvia that flied in frustration as Bubble Bobble wouldn't load up. The sense of accomplishment after FINALLY getting it to work is a special gaming moment on it's own. This can be applied to any early NES game.

Chip n' Dale's Rescue Rangers for the Nintendo Entertainment System

Play two player games and you're able to pick up your buddy and throw them around, off the level, into baddies. It's hilarious and will always remain one of my firmest early gaming memories. The resulting argument about you being an ass is always special.

Super Mario World for the Super Nintendo/GameBoy Advance

The first level, when you kick that Koopa shell into all the other Koopa's and score a 1-up. It just sits there as one of the coolest 2D platformer level starts ever.

Mario Paint for the Super Nintendo

What more needs to be said? Using the mouse to draw on the SNES was remarkably cool. You could also make, edit and animate a selection of sprites which was always a lot of fun. Making up a little video scene etc. That was special to me, and still is.

Super Mario 64 for the Nintendo 64

Running around the castle for the first time, exploring and playing with Mario's moves. That was truly a wow moment, making a very amazing Christmas that year.

Goldeneye 007 for the Nintendo 64

Hero health, Complex, pistols. I need say no more. A special moment EVERY SINGLE TIME.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64

The entire goddamn game was a special moment, from the way they displayed Boss Titles, the Master Sword sequence, the ending. What an experience. This stole Christmas that year in a way the Grinch never could.

Super Smash Bros: Melee for the Nintendo GameCube

Scoring a direct hit with the charged up Super Scope. Underwhelming on the accomplishment scale only in comparisson to getting a NES game to work.

The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker for Nintendo GameCube

After a tiresome later segment of the game, almost killing it, you find Ganondorf atop his castle and SWORD FIGHT HIM. I know it's easy, but it's just so much fun to go at the big man with swords flying. I felt denied a sword fight with Ganondorf was left out of Ocarina of Time, but this one wins it big.

Tales of Symphonia for the Nintendo GameCube

This game is host to several special moments, the battles being most of them. When the music is blasting out, and you're really held back by a powerful foe, the emotion of the game really gets to you. As does when you're running to the final battle with the cool music blaring out.

Halo 2 for the Xbox

Multiplayer on this gets my heart racing like mad in tense games, trying to capture the flag when you're surrounded by enemies gives a rush like no other. That feeling is another special moment in gaming, and one of the strongest I've ever felt.

I'm sure there are more, but those ones there spring to mind as I sit here typing. If I can think of any other good ones, I'll sling them in here.

Getting to the end, defeating the elite 4, then fighting gary. Ill nev er forget the first time i read "ASh, you are the world's best pokemon trainer" and watching all my pokemon go into the computer

Phoenix Wright
All those parts int he game, when the Judge reads guitly, but then someone comes running in to save the day, i always jizzed at these parts.

Super Mario Sunshine
Ahh yes the ending.. Oh wait, this is for the BEST gaming moments, my bad

Shenmue II
This is actually my favourite ever moment probably.
http://medlem.spray.se/tremerechantry/GIF_shenmue_rooftop_fight2.gif
After AGES of working your way up to the top of the Yellowhead bldg with Ren(and meeting Joy on the way), you finally get to the roof. You see Yuandu Zhu and Zong being held captured by Dou Noi, who you then fight for the HARDEST fight of the game. It takes a while to beat him and then you finally do and you get superb satisfaction.
Ryo then looks up to the Helicopter to see Lan Di( ) staring directly into his eyes, to which they both stare with wonder and hatred. What makes this so special is the fact that you haven't seen Lan Di since the very start of Shenmue, and after hours and hours (probably over 100) of journeying in Shenmue I and II you finally see him, it made me go all cold inside!
Suppose i've said a bit much lol :awesome: Well I'm a bit of a Shenmue lover.

You good sir, are now my favourite member on R-E forums. Exceptional description, and exactly how I felt when I encountered it.

Shenmue II still remains as the pinnacle of my gaming experience. I remember my mate saying he'd been into EB(on the tuesday) and Shenmue II was due out on the firday. He let me know that he saw Shenmue II behind the counter, and after phoning my local EB up, I found out they were selling it early. I had to beg for money off my mom and elder sis to afford it; but damn was it worth it!!

That was a special moment for me.

The whole Wind Waker experience was so memorable for me. Sailing around on the great sea was really relaxing and all the references to OoT and the other Zeldas made me feel very nostalgic.

OoT was also full of great experiences and one I remember very well was when the Deku Tree tells you that you are Hylian.

The feeling when playing Phoenix Wright and turning the trail around with some evidence and that cool music made me feel like I was a super defense attorney.

Completing the first mission in LylatWars when that Mission Complete music sounds and Fox says something like: "We're heading out, all fighters report!"

Thers sooo many. (halo2 live,Zelda,Goldeneye, phoenix,Goof troop, manymany more)

But one that really sticks out is Metroid Prime

Coming to the planet and going to the Artifact building. I remember looking upp at it's beauty. Rain splashing on my visor. I actually cried a tear of joy.

It was the best looking game I had played at that time.

Im yet to complete any Metroid game and Im still without this one... however, something about hearing Arnie like that and having him rain bullets on me is making me strangely motivated. I think however Sir that Ill be joining you in Final Fantasy IV before I get near Metroid Prime II.

Yep, one of the most beautiful parts is outside at the starting place. Forget the name, but it's where you are out on a giant ledge and you can kinda see over it. Where you fight the bird. Amazing.

There are some really special moments some of you guys have mentioned but nobody's mentioned the obvious ones:

Chrono Trigger:
When you first travel back in time to 600AD and enter the world map and the "Yearning of the Wind" music plays...well, it's enough to bring a tear of joy to my eyes...and later on, when Crono scarifices himself to save his friends from Lavos, and is revived later or to help them defeat Lavos...and after the battle finishes he floats to the skies never to be seen again

Metroid Prime
When you first put the game into your gamecube and the wonderfully animated menu and title screens come up, and the music plays, you know you have something special on your hands...later on, going into Phendrana Drifts for the first time and seeing the snowy world for all its splendour and glory is wonderful. Fighting Thardus (who i maintain is one of the best videogame bosses of all time) is another highpoint...hell the whole game is a high point if you ask me

Final Fantasy 7
Aeris dying, man, after going to the gold saucer, and getting a "date" with aeris and being around the cute and innocent lass that she is, its enough to break your heart...Sephiroth Destroying Nebelheim, your hometown and you swearing revenge...The Final boss...Sephiroth in three stages...Second stage it gets so hectic with your party trying to prevent him from using meteor...and the last stage, the greatest moment in videogame history, you press the single button that triggers your limit attack, and this one attack finished the already ravages Sephiroth off, and a huge cut scene ensues with the planets mako energy being restored...and the last frame...Aeris is underwater...and her eyes open.

Resident Evil 4
So many from this game that im not going to list them all...

EDIT: Who can forget riding Epona for the first time in Ocarina of Time??

The first time I ever played Banjo Kazooie and Zelda OOT -- no specific moments really, perhaps the first time I ran into Hyrule field and tried to fight one of those giant propellor pineapples, or when it got dark.... Sometimes when listening to certain music or playing certain parts of the game you can remember what it was like to be playing it for the first time :)

Call of Duty 1,UO, and 2 are full of them.
The defence of Pegesus bridge in CoD1, with your squad mates being taken out by the tank, and franticly running out of Panzerfausts after the 88 gets knocked out, with the music rising with each paniced melee attack, trying just to hold out for a few seconds longer.

In UO (united offensive, the expansion pack) when the airstrikes hit the tanks and halftracks which have come to finish you off in the chataeu.

And there is nothing quite like both the attack and defence of Pointe du Hoc in CoD2, especially running accross the muddy field with your friends being shot up around you, trying desperatly to get to the next trench.

They all still get my heart racing today.

My three favourites are:
1. The end of disc one on Final Fantasy VII
2. The beginning of the Plant chapter in MGS2, i was one of the few in Europe that didn't know about Raiden.
3. The first moments of Resident Evil 4, to play a game you love so much reinvented in an even better way.

I envy you sir. Stupid SOBs on gamefaqs spoilt it for me.

Majora's Mask:

-Watching the giants efforts to stop the moon from falling, but without success.
-Trying to end the biggest sidequest of the game (the kaffei and anju one) and waiting to the very last 5 minutes of the last day in the Inn, not being sure if Kafei would come or not, listening to that sad music of the night of the last day.

Super Mario 64 - getting the last star that took me 6 months to find where it was.

OOT - the game...

SSB Melee - the first time i booted the game, going all crazy pressing Start on the controller just to get in-game as fast as i could.

to just name a few

I think thats mine too. I also love the end to the 1st one, it was really emotional, which is strange because games don't ever make me like that. I also love the start to Shenmue II the music as you're on the boat was amazing, cus you're thinking, at last the I get to find out the next part of the story.

I suppose seeing Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast the 1st time was pretty amazing. Also finishing expert mode on Monkey Ball, cus I was so determined to do it.

Super Mario 64: Like many people have said, just running around the outside of the castle for the first time was truly amazing.

OOT: Lots of great moments in that: The first time on Hyrule Field; the ending; and one of my personal favourites: escaping from Lon Lon ranch by jumping over the wall on he back of Epona.

Majora's Mask: Reuniting those two people who were going to get married; the ending sequence where you see all the people you've helped (I was most happy about saving that poor old postman..)

Streets of Rage 1/2/3

Most notably the first was more memorable for me. My previous game being Super Mario 3 this was quite a jump and brought out the rebellious teenager aspect. I could not believe there was a game where I could roam around beating people up with bars, bottles and knives whilst at the same time watching my mate head pound someone to the ground. Why is there not a Streets of Rage 4 I hear you cry, Sega thought there was no market for one that's why. THEY ARE WRONG!

Super Mario 3

Best Mario game to date. It was also the first game I owned.

Zelda OOT

Every single moment of this game is classic. The hype of Twilight Princess has got me playing through the GC port and it's just as brilliant as I remember.

Goldeneye/Perfect Dark

Can anything touch the greatness of the multiplayer in these games. I fear not. I still play them with my mates. Granted the N64 controllers I own now suck but it doesn't stop me laughing like a madman when I plant a head shot on someone with a pistol.

Super Smash Bros/Melee

Apart from Goldeneye and Mario Kart these games are multiplayer heaven. A brawl with Nintendo superstars, which has a surprising amount of depth to it than people give it credit for. When you get so good at the game, that you and a mate can time an aerial attack with such precision you both fly out like the end scene of Matrix Revolutions, you know there's been a good 500 hours of play time on this baby.

Mario Kart 64/DS

The two best Mario Kart games in my opinion. Provided so many fun memories. It's scary how much fun can be had from simply knocking someone off a track with a star and getting in 1st.

Final Fantasy Adventure original GB. It's a happy ending on one hand, but left a bitter taste in my mouth. It left me feeling warm, gentle, and sad.

I think FF8 left a strong impression as well. Particularly THE spaceship cutscene. Never thought it'd happen at first, but half way through I was emotionally obsessed with that girl.

A bit of an odd one out is Dragon Quest 5. The story with Bianca is memorable because of the way the story is told.

One for me had to be completing Skies Of Arcadia on Dreamcast and then doing it all again 2 years later with Skies Of Arcadia Legends. Bliss!

Obvious one: Completing Ocarina Of Time, total marvellity at its utmost.

This next one might be a spoiler, so I'm marking it as one.

The platform on which Dagger and Eiko are on starts to collapse, Eiko jumps off but Dagger doesn't, it looks like the end for her, until Zidane jumps onto the falling platform and with help from Eiko gets Dagger to safety, then straight afterwards Alexandria is destroyed!

If anyone who hasn't played FFIX up to that bit has read the spoiler, I apologise.

Also, on FFIX with Vivi and the Black Mages, perhaps the moment aforementioned by TakeoMiyazaki.

Soul Calibur, when Xianghua's sword transforms into Soul Calibur!

Pro Evo 5 when I witnessed my Aston Villa squad, consisting of Ricardo Kaka, Fabio Cannavaro and Javier Saviola, as well as Olof Mellberg and Gareth Barry beating the "almighty" Barcelona squad, consisting of Ronaldinho, Mark Van Bommel, Lionel Messi and Samuel Eto'o 2-0 to lift the European Cup (as I renamed it) In the knowledge it will most likely never happen again in real life.

GoldenEye, although part of this is special for my brother. He unlocked the Invincibilty cheat after so long as well as Invisible Bond and 007 mode, as well as unlimited ammo. Which involved me blowing up baddies on the Depot level and watching them fly high after 3 Remote Mine explosions. Classic.

Ocarina

All. Of. It.

Final Fantasy VII

You know... Aeris & Sephiroth, I'm not going to elaborate...

Final Fantasy VIII

The opening fmv! One word: wow. Also the bit where squall carries rinoa along the railway bridg to esthar.. really emotional. And beating omega weapon, a pretty good achievement methinks.

Final Fantasy IX

The bit in castle pandemonium where zidane is trying to find himself and is swayed away from garland by the help of his friends. Great music.

Metal Gear Solid

Just a brilliant game. Such a good story as well.

Conker's BFD

The bit where you fight the giant caveman and bite a chunk out of its arse!

LoZ LTTP-the whole game but especially the music and shadow world-pure genius-first game to keep me up all night playing and also the first game to get me so immersed in a game i forgot to eat . . . yeah kinda explains why im so skinny now since the GBA version did exactly the same to me!!!!

also LoZ Four Swords Adventures! i managed to get 3other players to come round on day and play it-we got half way through together but the competition was excellent and there was some hillarious moments-so it'd prob the fights for the best items and the voting at the end.

Beating all my friends at MK:DS is a pretty special moment for me-considering one of my friends always seems to beat me at games till then mwahahahaaaa

I bought a copy of that on ebay, was watching the opening and thinking "wow", and then it froze just as Squall gets slashed in the face... (this happened every time I tried the game, no matter how much I cleaned the disc)

I sent it back, and haven't got round to buying another copy.
