Italy vs France
The time has come, the world was shaved down to 32 teams who traveled to Germany, 30 of those teams have now gone home and we are left with just the two. Two teams who have fought as hard as they could to gain their place for this the biggest of footballing nights that comes but once every 4 years. But only one team can get the gold and lift the trophy high and be called World Champions for the next four years.

Nah, bein serious, I do want France to win, but I think Italy are playing some beautiful football at the moment. Its gonna be tense but I have a feeling the French Frogs will triumph. Zidane will have the game of his life.

I will be supporting France, simply because I reckon they'll be the underdogs and it's always nice to see an underdog win through (though I will be betting on Italy). Hopefully this will be a great tournament finale, and quite frankly it's going to be nice seeing someone other than Brazil lift the cup.
You cant call a winner from these two teams. Italy seem to be more favorates due to a more lethal attack than portugal. france are great offensively but seem to lack in defence.
Cant wait to see guttuso and viera clash!

C'mon France
After last nights performance, holding on to the 1-0 lead, they deserve to lift the trophy. And it will be a good send off for Zidane, winning it twice in his International career. I lost all respect for Italy ages ago.

I seriously wanted Germany to beat Italy. I don't like the fact that for the first time there's a WC Final I'm old enough to remember without Brazil in it. So this is strange.
Despite the fact I followed AC Milan all last season (Ricky Kaka, man!) France have a fantastic squad. It'd be perfect for Zidane to bow out of football as a World Cup winner, a nice bloke like Thierry Henry should be able to properly lift the trophy, Franck Ribery to be known as a Scarfaced World Cup winner and Florent Malouda to have a World Cup winners medal next to his tube of Preperation H.

I don't get all the hype over Zidane here, yes i agree he is a great player but this world cup i feel he's been far from his best and IMO on their performances in the group stages they were lucky to get out of it.

Italy are gay for cheating and *beating* australia

such an immature comment.
using your logic then, can it be said that australia are not "gay" for having a man extra for 40 minutes and not taking advantage of that situation?
I suggest you watch germany-italy, but then that would be to no avail as you've made your mind up over a sole incident.
Anyway, i should be going into city to watch this, i'm assuming a good but tight match but we will see what happens on the night. Best for both teams, but of course i hope italy win.

I disagree. After the first half it was all France, except for the obvious offside goal that Toni scored. Other than that, France had the majority of the ball. France had the chances, and France blew it.
Well done to Italy, they didn't play badly, but they weren't the better team over the 120 minutes.
Keep that trophy warm, because England are coming for it in South Africa.

I loved the way the French crowd booed the Italians everytime they got the ball after the sending off. Like it was their fault.
I'm very, very disappointed in Zidane. With Wayne Rooney, you could argue that the guy was young and was still developing maturity towards the game. You can't argue that with Zidane. He should have known better.
As i was saying to my brother, France deserved to win that game, but Italy deserved to win the tournament.
Saying that, congratulations to both teams. There was all this nonsense talk about England or Brazil getting far, but nobody gave teams like France, Italy or even Germany a look in. They've surely silenced all their critics now, so well done to them.

The first half was a good game but the secong half was pretty poor. When it went to ET... Whats the point Zidane? Its your last game and you might win it, but getting yourself sent off isnt helping you, your team or helping david trezeguet take a penalty on target.

nothing compares to the feeling of seeing your team win the world cup, the best moment was when cannavaro held up the trophy, i say without a doubt the tournaments best player, it's something to trreasure for life.
that was damn stressful watching that match, but the feeling of winning is like nothign else.
As for the game, it started off rather evenly but later france started to play better from the 2nd half onwards. No way was that a penalty, but anyway we managed to get a goal back and that proved enough, although i did wish it ended in the 90 mins. It must be said both teams made many errors in play and passing.
Zidane... what a way to end your career, no matter what materazzi may have
said that was simply unforgivable for a player of his esteem.
But in all we actually a won PK's in the world cup, whats more amazing is we scored all of em. it was fitting that trezeguet was the man to miss his PK.
Well thats over, the critics can say nothing, the joy is ours!

Alright, don't bloody rub it in! Nothing compares to seeing your team win the World Cup, maybe, but nothing also compares to seeing your team crash out when you were so sure they were gonna win it this time after 40 years, but it turns out the team weren't good enough.

Picture it, the England team left for Germany with players who had been fantastic over the course of the domestic season (Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham, Neville etc.) and critics and professionals had labeled the team as "The best England squad since 1966". Mars had even been temporarily renamed Believe to instil hype into fans. Plus bookies were rating them as favourites.

Zidane's MySpace Suicide.
I think Materazzi called him a homosexual.
Here's why, moment before the headbutt they were involved in a head duel, because the ball came from top. Materazzi pulled Zidane and jumped so he could hit the ball, while doing this Materazzi grabbed Zidane's nipple.
So here's what went on:
Zidane: Keep your hands to yourself.
Materazzi: I'm not the one who's gay here.
Zidane: Are you implying i'm gay?
Materazzi: Well seems so.
Calling a muslim gay is pretty offensive to them, so like in the arab stylle he did, Zidane proudly stood up for his religion and gave him a headbutt.
Provocation is a very nice weapon indeed.

This world cup is up there with the likes of 90, 94 and 98.
You are shitting me right? World Cup '94 a classic? You are having a laugh. The only good thing about World Cup '94 was Diana Ross missing a penalty in the opening ceremony and the goal exploding as if she scored.
The World Cup '94 itself was poor, very much like this one. This year no one player stood out, no one team performed amazingly. It was a dull affair, that produced only glimpses of greatness. A way of proving this is ask yourself is there any player you can't wait to see play for their club or get signed by your club. I can't think of anyone.
Fierce_LiNk
10-07-2006, 03:20 PM
I wouldn't say this World Cup was a poor one. It was only poor for teams like England and Brazil, who failed to perform. For Italy and Germany, they had a fantastic world cup.
The big players for certain teams failed to live up to the hype, imo. Players like Frank Lampard, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo and Totti all had poor world cups.

Well, that must make his parents very mad, doesn't it?
A little game.... (http://www.bastardidentro.it/node/view/18910)
:p
That thing spread like wildfire, didn't it?

No clue. I don't even see why that's relevant to the fact that he's just born into it and not practice it himself.

Well, it's because it saddens Muslims to see a world-class player like Zidane being a Muslim, and not practice. Makes them feel like they look bad.
Also, his last name is Zinedine (pronounced Zein El-Dein in Arabic), which means "the adornments of the religion".

Right so his mother, very ill in hospital, matterazi calls her a whore in front of zidane.
and all he did was headbutt him???
I would of fucked him up big time.
Talk about lack of self control. :p

But, it's the psychological battle. Alex Ferguson plays mind games on other managers every year, the fans do it, and even players on the pitch. This was just that. Materazzi used his mother as bait, and Zidane fell for it. Whether he loves his mother or not is irrelevant, he should have kept his cool. Right now, i bet Zidane is angry with himself for losing it.

I think we established ages ago that he shouldnt of done it. you dont seem to realise why he done it. Rememember footballers aint robots.
Of course i realise why he did it. But the fact is, it was a trap and he fell for it. Materazzi saw his chance to wind Zidane up, and it worked a treat.
Footballers ain't robots. But, they ain't thugs either. I've always thought of Zidane as a strong minded player, and he should have remained strong minded. There's absolutely nothing wrong with walking away.

I remember when I was young,
Me and my buds had so much fun,
Running 'round and kicking ball,
Had shaved my head bald and knocked one in on my own,
But the dumbest thing I've ever done,
Was doing a thing called the bald-headed head butt,
While my team mates were tryin' to win it all,
I got a red card for that bald-headed head butt...Well...
Head buttin' is something shockin'
When I known better than that,
I never have picked a better time,
And I guess so much for that.
Oh lawdy mama, that Sunday night,
When the fans wore their flags tight and,
The bald-headed head butt was out of line.
But the time went by and team just died,
The fans went and left us for some Italian team.
Long nights cryin' by the television,
Dreamin' of my glory and my old bald head.
But they'll never kill the thrill we got,
Burnin' up to the bald-headed head butt,
Learnin' fast as the weeks went fast,
I got a red card for that bald-headed head butt...Well...
Head buttin' is something shockin'
When I known better than that,
I never have picked a better time,
And I guess so much for that.
Oh lawdy mama, that Sunday night,

So everyone who retaliates at someone who verbally abuses their ill mother is a thug...
I didn't call him a thug. I said footballers weren't thugs, meaning they shouldn't resort to violence.
It's a typical playground thing. Oh, so and so called me this, so and so called my family that. It doesn't matter WHAT the player said, the intention always was to wind up him.

It was a moment of passion a bad thing sure but I don't think we can judge him to badly. His mum is in hospital and someone calls her a whore. I would have been really upset myself. Add all the magnitude of the occasion and exertion of the match etc. Im not saying it was right im just saying I can understand why he did it and wouldnt judge him over it.

He's probably beating himself up about it, at the moment anyway.
I didn't think the match itself was that great. Apart from maybe the first half.
well if you were gonna retaliate (sp?) and know your gonna be off you might as well do it proper that leavs mattaratzi really sorry. something like what was done to edmundo back in the day.... good old edmundo.

ha edmundo, that guy was a tool.
How can anyone possibly defend zidane's actions? Regardless of what was said on the pitch zidane was stupid enough to let a bunch of words get to his head, standing up to someone is NOT giving a ramming headbut.

Apparently if Materazzi did use racial/religous abuse then Italy could lose the World Cup under the new FIFA rules...

is that a joke? along the lines of that drug test forfeit match email that goes around nearly every time England/ a Big english team get knocked out of a big tournament?
anyway, unless Zidane had a dictophone hidden under his shirt I doubt they'll be able to provide 100% proof of what Materazzi said.

Zidane learnt Italian while he was playing for Juventus.
Plus they got lip-readers to read what Materazzi had said.

yeah, but it will be one mans word against the other. Unless what was said was fairly harmless, in which case Zidane may say "he said nothing particularly bad..."
Thats the only scenario both may agree. I guess they could have lip readers confirm the likelyhood of what was said.

i've heard that, but i belive that would not be the case and would be highly unfair. It'd be like sending off the french team for zidane's headbutt.

OK so the greatest month in football is once again come and gone and with it so is our World Cup board.
A moment of silence please to mourn its passing
........

............................
Ok thanks for that,
Ok as you can see a small part of the World Cup has been saved, i have moved this thread here to general chit chat aswell as the "Sweepstakes" thread, the "England team" thread and the "World Cup Dream team" thread
I still haven't filled the grave of the World Cup board yet, so if there are any other threads you want brought back PM me, if there's enough demand it will be saved, if not the grave will be filled this weekend.
But don't worry like the Phoenix rises from its own ashes so too will the World Cup thread, but it will take 2 years and it will have metamorphed(sp?) in a Euro 2008 thread :p

WTF, that game is wierd.
ANyway zidane, spoke and claims materazzi said something about his mother and sister. None of this rasict BS.
he apologised for what he did but said he had no regrets.
He also said, "But I can't regret what I did because it would mean that he was right to say all that."
Fair enough to upset, but how could materazzi be right? he dosent even know his sister or mother, so how?
Of course materazzi was shitstirring, but still he let silly commets get to him, i see that as weak, there are better ways to stand up against such comments.
