Sonic The Hedgehog Rewrites the Arabian Nights in a Completely New Adventure Exclusive to the Wii Console
SAN FRANCISCO & LONDON (May 9, 2006) - SEGA® of America, Inc. and SEGA® Europe Ltd. today announced Sonic Wild Fire (working title) exclusively for the Wii™. Developed by SEGA Studios, Sonic Wild Fire stars the Blue dude with the 'tude on his first solo adventure since the original Sonic The Hedgehog™ in 1991. This intense and exciting action game takes advantage of the innovative Wii™ controller as Sonic combines his trademark high-speed action with easy to play controls to offer a brand new experience!
Sonic's new adventure unfolds from a storybook of the classic tale, Arabian Nights, the last several pages from the book have gone missing, and it's up to Sonic to re-create the story. The vibrant environments provide for a refreshingly new look to the franchise filled with brightly colored mosaic tiles, glistening oases, swaying palm trees, and crumbling stone columns. Sonic activates specific areas in the prismatic environment to pull off new tricks and stunts, in addition to interacting head-on with various obstacles by jumping, dodging, and dashing.
"Sonic Wild Fire and the innovative Wii controller changes the way gamers play interactive entertainment," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of SEGA of America, Inc. "SEGA is excited to lead the gameplay revolution through its support of Wii with a Sonic release built exclusively for this new system."
Gamers will use the Wii controller to steer Sonic and experience an untapped freedom in gameplay and control. Hold the controller horizontally with two hands and tilt left and right to steer Sonic on different paths and maneuver deftly from obstacles and enemies. Continue to tilt and fling forward to dash-attack ground and air enemies and to break down barriers. In addition to the main game is an array of unique controller-focused mini-games which make Sonic Wild Fire fun to play alone or as a multiplayer game with friends. Get ready for a refreshing adventure that puts you on the forefront of gaming!
Sonic Wild Fire will be dashing to Wii's everywhere in 2007.

I don't know if I like it yet because of the whole 'Arabian Nights' thing.Sounds to me like you'll just be doing doing things from Arabian Nights.I really hope i'm wrong because right now I prefer the PS3/360 version.

I can't believe there isn't more discussion about this game. After playing the amazing Sonic Rush, i will definitely be getting this. They're going for speed and gameplay, which is exactly what made Sonic Rush so amazing.

The only reason the Wii isn't getting ports of titles like Sonic and Resident Evil 5 is probably because it is simply not powerful enough.
Still i'm very happy that Sega are compensating for Nintendo.: peace:
Does anyone else think that since Yuji Naka has just started of a new small developing studio he will be making small budget titles. And we all know the best place for small budget games is the DS and the Wii!

yeah if there was more footage I'd chat about it more but I've hardly seen anything. In fact.. generally where the hell is all the footage and screenies, why does it seem like a lot of journalists have gone E3 and are merely having fun and not reporting back!
After seeing it in action im more than happy.
Couldn't agree more! Even the crowd cheered when it came on (i think, lol).
Looks bright, colourful and graphically very nice. :D
Shame it's out 2007, but we do need some titles out then obviously.

Looks equally as good as the PS3 and 360 version, but we have the controller.
This has me vaguely interested.. the control schemes for 3D Sonics up until now have been seriously below par.
I will consider this if they control scheme is okay.. and preferibly if they ditch the techno.

Hahah yeah, but when you're stressed out and can't work out a tough puzzle or get past a boss the last thing you want is looping high hats over some j-pop.
It can be nice when you're in the mood but most of the time I can't sync with it.
That was what was so good about the WipeOut soundtrack, it was perfect whatever mood you're in.
I'd probably just mute it, but the control scheme is the most important thing for me.

Do you really think developers would bother with making a whole new game instead of simply porting an already existing game with modified controls?
Nintendork

McMad, Activision did.. on the whole though you are right.
Most developpers would rather bolt on a Wii control engine to a ported game than create an entirely new game.

I disagree, if a 360 game (advanced war fight, the best looking so far), is avaible on the ps2, then I think any port is possible.

The video kind of played back using Videolan.....but at the end it locked up my pc.
Its just a clip of Sonic holding and flipping the Wii controller like in this picture:
http://www.sega.com/e3/2006/images/Wii_sonic_art_wht.jpg
He looks at the controller and says: "finally something interesting", points at the screen, shooting a fireball with his hand, then a flame appears on his his chest, he then says "lets do it" and then runs towards the screen.
Then the Logo appears.

That was said before anyone realised that motion detectors were installed on the ps3. Lots of exclusives will be lost where the controllers can match functions. A lot of the 'exclusives' this generation were time limited and could easily be ported. The wii controller was meant to be a barrier.

No; i doubt it. PS3 pad and Wiimote are completely different things. PS3 only has tilt sensors, so if any games are lost, it'll be an extremely small amount.
Games like Madden Wii, Red Steel...cannot be done with the ps3 pad.

IMHO, it may be the only way to truly have a 3d sonic.
2d sonics were all about running and jumping from a to b as fast as you can.
The 3d sonics of old didn't capture this, and that is why they semi-suck(i love adventure).
However, this sonic seems to capture the 2d sonics in a 3d game. My only concern was that it looked quite slow; that may possibly be because of the guy playing it though.
Rather than positioning the game as yet another free-roaming adventure, each level instead acts as a rollercoaster of sorts, sending Sonic on a pre-determined path, while giving the player full control over movement and speed.
I was right; the guy playing it was just taking it easy.

This game looks a much better Sonic game than Sonic the Hedgehog on PS3/360,
Just watch this new video of Sonic the Hedgehog PS3/360;
http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=10660&type=wmv&pl=game
The game seems to have carried over all the problem of the previous 3D Sonics!
The camera is terrible, if not worse than ever! It's constantly switching angles over Sonic and the player manages to die about 5 times in this video, all as a result of the camera not showing you where to go properly or being at the wrong angle!
This game was meant to be all about Sonic going back to how it should be and being extremely fast!
Well the first part of Sonics level shows alot of platforming, slow jumping, not being able to tell quite where to go, with only about 10 seconds of running/grinding!
The second part of Sonics level is flat out running, but there is nothing to do! Nothing! The level is extremely boring!
But this game features 3 Hedgehogs, so they'll be loads of high-speed levels right? WRONG!
We've seen Shadow (at least for some part) uses vehicles,
and it turns out Silvers level are not about speed either, but about using psychic powers! Silver basically walks around the level levitating objects out of the way!
It seems the game will carry on the same design as Sonic Adventure 2;
Running/Vehicles/Exploration(of a kind).
It would seem Sonic Team have completely forgotten what Sonic games should be about; if it wasn't for Sonic Wild Fire!

I've just sat and watched that video and I have to say its looking FAR better than the other Sonic. I was actually going to buy an Xbox just for the new Sonic but sod that. I'm not gonna say this will definitely be great but it looks to have sorted the problems of other 3d sonics such as being boring run fast and hope the camera doesn't balls you up levels, and all that other tedious Knuckles/Tails stuff. This is looking good.

The absolute best part in Sonic Rush was not the main game mode, but the time trial you unlocked after. Perfecting your routes and timing, I could spend hours squeezing every one hundreth of a second on every track...
Watching the gameplay, the game is just that: getting to the end as fast and flawlessly as possible. And that makes me happy. People were moaning for alternative routes, but even in that video you can see a door closing before Sonic because the player wasn't fast enough to reach it.
Looks neat. Might look into it, but I doubt it. Sonic Heroes sucked bad.
