View Full Version : Zelda: Twilight Princess Discussion (SPOILERS: BEWARE)

I thought it was strange that it didn't have a thread here yet so I decided to make one.
Talk about the upcoming Gamecube hit "Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess", where Link will have an epic adventure. He turns into a wolf, he rides his horse, solves classic Zelda puzzles in huge dungeons, and battles enormous bosses. Miyamoto said this will be the last Zelda game as we know it.

We had one on the Cube europe forum, and it ran for 19 pages! Before the site got hacked and the thread was lost forever.
Although, let's see how far we can take this!
I am soooooooo dying to get my hands on this game. Today, the Revolution controller had made me realise something: We have not seen everything until we have heard from Nintendo! We can speculate all we want...but they hold the trumph cards.

I want that game, I want that Game, It's the best game ever, if I'm lucky and it will come out before my computer class starts and I start learning how to make a website, I'm gonna make it all dedicated to that game, if it isn't I wait until it comes out, purchase my own domain and domainname and do the above. sorry of this was a little off-topic...
anyway I want that game, it's so realistic and there are some beatifull graphic, from what I've seen.

As much as I love all this Rev news, hell all the next-gen news, it kind of saddens me. Zelda could be the greatest game ever made, but no one's gonna play it, because everyone will be playing the XBox 360 or looking forward to Rev and PS3.
It's kinda like the end of Lord of the Rings (and I mean the good book ending, not the crappy Hollywood film ending). You know alll the elves have left and you know soon they'll all be forgotten never to be seen again. I just feel it'll be left behind and forgotten.
Maybe I like this game a little to much.

This game is the only reason I'm keeping my GC for the moment. When it omes out Ill play thru it, sell my GC, and buy a Rev (when its out). Then Ill play thru it again on the Revo.

I remember Jordan told me that Link would actually age in this game, like the character in Fable. Is this true or not?
masaki86
18-09-2005, 03:32 PM
I have heard nothing officially about ageing being in it, so I wouldn't hold your breath. However, if included, the aging system would probably be purely superficial, and would more than likely be something like, in the opening village scenario, Link is 16....but when the real adventure begins, he is 17 or something like that.
Can't wait for this game though; really looking forward to giving my GC a dust down to play; infact, I may well go play through the whole series (on nes,snes,ng4 and gb) over the coming months just to get into the mood.

Although, Link did age in Ocarina of Time. We played some parts of the game as a kid, and some parts as an adult. Maybe there's something like that here? I guess there's no way of knowing? :(

This is aparently Work In Progress (WIP) 3D model for Hyrule Castle in the upcoming Zelda Twilight Princess, not confirmed to be true though, nintendo hasn't spoken about it, and even if it's the real deal... it could and should be changed.

Link does age in all the games by getting hearts and upgrades in a sense. ;)

Excited as I am with Revolution and believe me I'm VERY excited. This is my top priority when it comes to games. I seriously can't wait for it, specially since Miyamoto and Aonuma have admited the mistakes they did in WW and that they're working to correct them. Now we know why this is the last Zelda of its kind. I don't want to create hype, but this might be the best game ever.

I don't know if anyone else gets Nintendo Power, but they've been doing this thing where they tell about the influences and past of one important person on the Twilight Princess team in each issue. It's really interesting where some of the artists came from. ne guy's first project for the company was the Ravens in Luigi's mansion and he went straight onto projects like Baby Bowser in SMS and secondary characters in WW. He's now in charge/supervisor of all of twilight princesses playable characters.
Don't know if anyone else noticed, but in a screenshot of wolf-Link running, there's no Midna.

id hate it if zelda turned to an mmorpg. its it probly will be just with a diffrent controle interface.it can't turn into a mmorpg because miyamoto created link to be the link between the game and the player, if we have 50 Links on-screen the player can't possibly feel like "he's the only hope for this world" also zelda is not zelda without dungeons, it would feel like starfox adventures felt like: what is fox mcloud/link doing here?
Playing the demo of this game recently made me look forward to getting the full game even more. If anyone has any questions about the demo, ask away! :)

Ah, now that's one question I can't really answer. Unfortunately, when I played the game it was on a demo pod outside, in the blazing sunshine, and the brightness level on the flat screen TV looked like it had been turned up to its fullest. That meant that it was actually quite hard to see what I was doing, so I couldn't really say what the graphics were like. I'm sure there'll be nothing to worry about on that front, though.

The thing is, by the time its out over here in UK do you really expect to see it on shelves in shops?
It may be on online sites, but by 2006 its likely shops like GAME,HMV,Gamestation etc. (okay maybe not the last one) will no longer be selling Gamecube games anymore, I heard some GAME branches are already no longer selling it because of space needed for DS,PSP and XB360.
It personally doesn't bother me too much as I order all my games online, but its a shame that what could be the game of the generation might not even be available in the majority of stores in UK. Not only that, but it is bound to be overshadowed because of all the next gen buzz. I am beginning to think its very likely that they will launch Zelda bundled with the REV so it sells well, because it could easily by ignored by the majority otherwise.
He said it will be the last Zelda game ever in the form we know it.

You cant compare Zelda to RE, not even in the graphical department, because Zelda has huge scenarios and Nintendo is probably aiming to have no in game loadings. It also seems like a a faster game, so its easy to have framedrops. I think the game looks absolutely gorgeous even if it isnt like RE4. Anyway arent those pics of wolf link running in the "light world"? Because Midna probably only appears in the twilight realm.
I never watched an in game segment of the game till the other day, I couldn't resist watching the CUBE disc. Im not Irish or anything but oh my fecking god, I thought it would be great but not that great. The music in the villiage blew me away, some of the greatest music I ever heard in my entire life. The only downside was that the CUBE dude who was playing totally sucked arse on it.

Although, enough about that, how badly do i want tis game? Very much so. :(I don't know about that... miyamoto still drives the series and he named link after the link between the player and the game, he wants you to see him, feel like him, it will stay that way I think, the controller scheme is perfect for the current camara standpoint, just like they wont change the voice acting issue, they probably wont change the camera standpoint. I hope so, anyway, maybe they'll include a first person view where you can walk using weapons in first person and even play with you sword, but not on the "standard dungeons" exploration

I can't wait for Twilight Princess!
Anyone remember the Spaceworld Zelda video? That was sweet! I'd love to see Link facing off with Ganondorf like that in Twilight Princess, a little cutscene before the duel!
I think that after releasing Twilight Princess (on the Gamecube), Nintendo should do a bundle of it with the Revolution, for those who missed out on it on the cube but could play it on the Rev! It'd sure help Rev sales too!
ps: wouldn't it be awesome to see Fierce Link in Twilight Princess, he'd look so good!

Guys bad news it looks like nintendo may be canning the series after the above nazi symbol was found in the game.
Also blatent homosexual steryotypes have been seen in the game with assocations of slavery, pedophilier and gneral odd behiavour with homosexuality. This character is the reason.
http://www.zeldadungeon.net/Zelda6/Characters/Tingle.jpg
The game also subtly attacks feminism, branding women who don't conform and stay in the village looking after their men as wild aggresive amazoninan type women.
http://www.hyrulekingdom.bravepages.com/images/Charac-Gerudo.JPG
It has also encouraged an age old link between overwieght people haveing the chartaristics of being jolly but stupid.

You do make a fair point. One of the main reasons i loved Ocarina of Time and Majora's mask was because i had no knowledge of what the games would be like. When i came around to play them both, they blew me away. Maybe i'll feel this when i come around to play the new zelda. I'm kinda glad that trailers and screenshots are not flying around left right and center because trailers can sometimes ruin things. In the trailers for Star Wars Episode 3, they showed so much of the movie that there was very little that you saw on release date. I hated the trailers for that.

I always get chills watching the Zelda videos, but the one with the croud reacrtions is great to see. Its impossible not to smile. I dont want to see anything more about Zelda, but I know that I wont be able to stop myself from seeing new pics and vids. My only fear is that the wolf part isnt very good as its something really different. I trust Nintendo though.

Hmm. Well ive had this game preordered for quite a while now. And was really excited about the November 05 release. (yeah well, i guess the joke is on me). and am still excited for its release.
The game will be awesome, and funnily enough, i think it will sell some gamecubes along with it.
i do like the idea of a 'darker' feeling zelda game. that was the best part of the N64 zelda games. In OoT with the future being screwed up, and MM with the whole 'moon is gonna kill us' thing. This was lost i think in WW, but i really did like the tie in.
Favorite Zelda game? Majoras Mask. Simply because of the way that Link becomes part of the lives of all the characters. Cmon, dont tell me that you werent on the edge of your seat when trying to save the ranch from the aliens! Or when you helped Kafei with the whole Wedding thing....
But anyway, my point is (finally), if Nintendo manage to pull off this, it will be a truly amazing game.

hmmmm; I have decided to block out all incoming zelda spoilerific stuff. I ruined wind waker by constantly going on gamefaqs and seeing that people had found hyrule and such; it was such an exciting time tbh, but I knew everything by the time i started playing.
Majoras Mask and OOT were in teh same vain, as I had constantly been reading reviews and previews of them, and I had seen stuff I wish I hadn't. It makes me think back to the NES and SNES, where I would get games without knowing what would happen in them, so apart from the odd preview/review; I will not be following the spoilers to this game.

im doing the same thing, i will not be downloading any new traliers or looking at new screens till realise date, actually that is the only thing i will look up. I do not think this will last to the very date it comes out but i wont to be pretty left in the dark when it hits. Maybe when it comes out in Japan and the US i might check out and visit forms about twilight just to see people views and reactions to the game. :)
even though im having a media blackout im still 100% hyped for this game and i know that it will last till i have finished the game 100% of the way through. This is going to be an uphill battle but we have to remember that this is zelda and it is a nintendo creation.

Alright I made a real cool reply to that with a fairy granting you that wish and everything but IE crashed now you will only get the short story:
Eijo Aonuma confirmed in a recent interview that Zelda: TP takes over 100 hours to finish the main and sidequest.
He also said that the development team is quite huge and gets loads of cash - which is also spent on motion capturing Link and the animals. TP will become the guideline for any next-gen Zelda.

100 hours, this game must be so huge, I wonder how many discs it will contain. But maybe the 100 hours calculation includes finding all the heart pieces and something like the Skulltullas and this can take a lot of time. I'd like to know how long the main quest will be.
And I don't know if anyone else would like this but I think it would be great that after completing the game (or any Zelda game) you could continue. Evil is defeated and the people are recovering and you can now see what changed and talk to them and all being thankful and such.
I went back to OoT to just to ride with Epona in Hyrule Field.

It's like that in the oracle games; they build a statue for you commemorating you victory. The people express their thanks and praise, their lives continue, with some moving countries as they are finally free from the evil that lurked in their lands.

I played the demo a couple of months ago. I can't really comment on the graphics, because the screen I was playing it on was really bad, and I could hardly see what I was doing, but it still played well. I spent most of my time in the village part of the game, where I rescued a cat, swam in the lake, smashed a bee hive and had a short go at rounding up the cattle (which I gave up on because it was pretty difficult, and I wanted to explore the village a bit more!), then I had quick go on the horseback swordfighting section, which was again pretty fun, but I couldn't really see what I was doing.
If you've got any specific questions, I'd be happy to try and answer them! :)

As for ehancements in framerate, textures, particle system, bump mapping, resolution, AA, AF and Super Sampling... I hope they implement at least some of them.
It would be easy to include extra paths in the code like "if this is a revolution console [id verified]instead of the grass texture just generate real grass all over hyrule".
real simple and manageable, just like in PC games they make a diferent path for each GPU suported with slightly diferent settings, on the Gamecube it can run like a... say, a direct X 8 game (not really but...) without fur effect and all but with revolution new settings can be applied, like fur effect for all characters and grass everywhere, just little freebies from running the game from Low settings to High ones, not really making it next gen, but certainly with more eyecandy, giving a reason for people to upgrade from cube to revo, or buy a revolution just to play that game.

Not a bad theory, I'm not a fan of having Link die though, he's just too... I dunno, nooooooooo!
Here's another thought:
Hyrule IS flooded, yet as opposed to this being the end of the game, it's an event that is simply part of the progressing storyline.
Link manages to get to high ground and now has to defend the last remaining strongholds from falling, these in turn end up being the islands of Wind Waker, as Link survives for his lineage to continue...
I dunno, just bored and thinkin of possibilities.

OMG, sorry, but I think that is a really great ending. I'm sure I'd cry at the end, even though I havn't cried in 3 years... but wow, I mean, who cares about Aries? She was only there for 1 game, if Link died that would be 20 years of getting to know each other gone. Even though he'd came back again, and this Link is just one of many... but still, it'd feel like 20 years.

As much as people think Nintendo don't care about the fans when they delayed it into 2006, I actually think it shows how Nintendo care SO MUCH about their fans. They could of released it this holiday season, and it would of sold like crazy, or they could give it a few more months to improve it and make it as perfect as possible for the fans. They care so much more about the quality of the game rather than its sales, I admire them.
And as pissed off as I was at the time it was delayed, you've got to admit its great now because we still have SO much to look forward to!
This year we could of seen some Revolution games at E3, and have Twilight Princess in our homes right now, but then there wouldn't be so much to look forward to. We better get Zelda before the summer though or I will be pissed off. :heh:

Anyone heard Spong's rumour?
There is a strong chance we hear, that Zelda will come bundled with the Revolution as a 'showpiece' backwards-compatible title at launch. The wait before the final GameCube boxed version may be as long as a month.
Sounds like a good move to me, it would persuade people to buy a Revolution who are big fans of Zelda but weren't originally planning on a Revolution, as otherwise they'd have to wait say a month.
Also, it would guarantee more sales, as I doubt that the game itself will be being sold across most chain stores by then.
I think its likely, and hope its true to be honest.

the spec of them making a perfect game, only releasing it when it is, makes me hyped enough, and the news blackout leaves me mad, you could say I'm more hyped than ever.

I think that bundling the game with the revo is a cool idea but it's going to confuse the people that consider knowing all the names of the playstation consoles by heart a great gaming achievement. i recently read in the paper that DS wasn't backwards compatible and then they went on to put a picture of the gameboy micro and referred to it as a GBA SP. Backwards compatiblity is going to be cool but as someone mentioned before with the comment that half the world was against WW, then it's going to be those same people that rite off the revo.
The bundling i mentioned would probably push me over the edge to sell my cube in exchange for revo. \
Can i ask if this is what cube to revo owners will do? Does the revo have any slots for the cube memory cards or should i sell them too? and if i'm not jumping the gun, does the revo have any limitations for backwards compat like how the DS won't play multiplayer GBA games.
Looking forward to new Zelda...was playing MM and there are faint pictures of the N64 controllers under the water inside the clock tower.

Yes I'll give my GC to my neighbour (with a few games I'll never play again) but I'll keep a controller and the memory card since they can be plugged into the Revo and GC games are also running on the Revo, multiplayer should work, not sure about LAN though - Nintendo didn't say anything about it.

Although backwards compatability is lovely, may i remind you that Ocarina of Time was meant to be played on the N64, A Link to the Past on the Snes and Link's Awakening on the Gameboy. Although backwards compatability is lovely, may i remind you that Ocarina of Time was meant to be played on the N64, A Link to the Past on the Snes and Link's Awakening on the Gameboy. These are how the games were intended. I will most certainly be keeping my cube to play the new Zelda game, just like i kept my N64, Snes and Gameboy, as nature intended.
I heard that many of the people that returned WW did so with the OoT bonus disc missing - not many people have the old consoles and i think animal crossing has a thing going with all the nes games you can play. i'd give any game a go with the funky revo controller.

If you missed the era or don't have the old console, then i can see the point. But, imo, there's simply no contest between Ocarina of time on the N64 pad and Ocarina of time on the Cube pad. The n64 controller is perfect for such a game. But, i can understand both arguments. :)
Just to let you guys know, i'm de-stickying this thread. Please try and keep all Zelda discussion here.

Whole soundtrack orchestrated? Yes please!
GIOVANNI: a. Can you tell us about any developments regarding Metroid Prime 3, or when we can expect some? / b. Retro said they're taking MP3's music in some new places -- could that possibly mean ORCHESTRATED?! / c. When can we expect to hear any news on Super Smash Bros. Revolution?
REGGIE: MP3 has been confirmed as a Revolution title. It's definitely in development. (Mentions Zelda Rev too, nothing specific.) As for the music, I'm pretty sure that's done in Japan! (Laughs, says he doesn't make the games.) If Retro Studios says so, then MP3 is taking the music in new places. But I can't divulge just what those will be. (Not sure if he knew / wouldn't tell. Didn't come off like he was a huge cog in the MP3 machine. Sort of laughed these questions off.) Twilight Princess will be fully orchestrated, though. Maybe you ought to take it up with Retro! (I laugh, mentioned talking about it here, said I'd take his advice! MP3 MUST BE ORCHESTRATED! Sorry... Reggie goes on As for SSBR, that's been confirmed as a launch title. I can't give you any more specifics than that -- although, I can say it will be another high-quality Nintendo experience, for sure! (Laughs again.) You'll see.

Well it was unneccessary in my opinion to sticky the charts thread instead, its updated every week anyway so when it needs to be discussed it is at the top of the first page because its just been updated.
There's no other MASSIVE GC games left that deserve to be stickied really...okay Baten Kaitos II but thats ages away, and probably won't be out till after Twilight Princess.

The way i worked it out was like this:
5 Stickied threads. So i just reduce it to 3, to keep the place in order and to stop looking tatty. I think anything over 4 threads is a bit messy.
Another factor was that it is December, and coupled with the fact that the forum is (unusually quiet), the release date for this game has yet been confirmed. Also, we've been given little, next to barely given information about this game. Now, i think that when more information is release or more forum activity takes place, that this thread should be unstickied. This also allows for possibly another thread in the meantime to be stickied in its place, If there is need for it.
Makes sense, no?

UK Nintendo Magazine NGC has revealed in its latest Jan 06 issue that one of the reasons Zelda Twilight Princess was delayed was to add functionality with the Revolution Controller.
Here is the quote from the magazine
NGC can exclusively reveal that Twilight Princess will be playable on the forthcoming Revolution using the upcoming console's unique controller.
Now we all know that the Revolution features backwards compatibility but the ability to play Zelda: TP with the innovative controller is excellent. Back in September when Nintendo announced they we're taking extra time to add some incredible elements they weren’t kidding. Basically what will happen is when you insert the disc into your Revolution, you'll be given the option to use the Revolution's controller, with all the advantages this will bring.
This is very cool, No word on how it will be used but most likely for fishing sword fighting and the like.
Heh, it was kinda obvious it was going to happen anyway. I think I'd prefer to play through it first normally though, and then possibly play through a second time using the Rev controller.

Heh, it was kinda obvious it was going to happen anyway. I think I'd prefer to play through it first normally though, and then possibly play through a second time using the Rev controller.Let's hope they also ehance the graphics... using the extra pipelines for bump mapping, ehanced alternative 3D models/characters (non playable and playable) and use the extra fill rate to render realistic grass all over hyrule, all this would be simple and easy to achieve with more power, it would just be a matter of including extra code to be recognized by revolution, like they're doing with the control system...
I hope they make zelda TP a game between last gen and next gen (seeing as it already seems next gen...) enhancements would make wonders to it.

You know Nintendo should really come forward with this, it kind of seems they're confused. If the game releases that close to Revolution it might suffer from "OMG crappy old-gen graphics!" and the sword swinging will be passed of as a a gimmick. Of course that this MIGHT give Revolution a boost in sales. Who knows. Just make the game awesome Nintendo :*

i can see the controller being used for minigames (eg. fishing)/ but for general gameplay it will be stupid.

believe me when i say that i would love nintendo to prove me wrong.well... you dont have to swing the controller like you saw in the video, you may just tilt it a little it's a matter of taste I believe, a small tilt in the direction you want may do the same as a swing in the same direction, as for the rest... it gives you more overall liberty for slashing in the direction you really want to, in a manner that the joystick could only dream off, also it could be much more involving to the gamer. because you control the sword movement with one arm and the mobility in the other... did you hear wind waker was suposed to let you control the sword action with a joystick at first?
for instance: how do you aim arrows in a revolution controller? you may use the main controller as the arrow position and camera and use the analog joystick to pull the arrow back and forth, adding more pressure or less pressure to it, it would work like a charm wouldn't it? all this while giving you more control over the game.

After reading up more on this rumor, I've decided that it must be fake. TP delayed until November? That would be completely illogical since Nintendo already stated that TP would be the last "conventional" Zelda and a new Zelda for Revolution would be totally different. TP is a GC title, the whole idea behind the new Zelda Revolution title will be the Revolution controls. TP with Rev controls would ruin that idea.
I just highly doubt Nintendo will screw GC owners to put in Rev controls, when they already have a seperate Rev Zelda planned.

I just highly doubt Nintendo will screw GC owners to put in Rev controls, when they already have a seperate Rev Zelda planned. :sad:I don't see it as screwing the cube owners... firstly because it'll still run on gamecube, secondly... it's not like they'll send all the team home and stay there with the control system team tweaking it... no need to keep developing animation frames, more cutscenes, soundtrack and add more dungeons while polishing all the game for release... and we know all that development is going on; I believe it's like the "control system" comes from the wind waker engine (Zelda TP uses it) so it must be finalized: ok we have extra time to implement what we want, so instead of leaving that part of the team without work or moving them to other places... "well you guys add support for revolution in the meanwhile".
They are not delaying Zelda just because of revolution support, I'm sure of that, even because nintendo needed that title this christmas.
Also... look at the recent news: revolution gone gold, and rummors of it comming next may/april... If those are true you'd still get your zelda by april right? :) let's have some wishful thinking
Glenn_Returns

I don't see it as screwing the cube owners... firstly because it'll still run on gamecube,
Yeah but it would be suffering another very long delay just to add something that will already be in Zelda Revolution.
"well you guys add support for revolution in the meanwhile".
Well Nintendo just delayed it to April. The only possible reason they would delay it again to November (as the rumor states) would be to add the controls. In my opinion Rev controls in TP just aren't logically worth another long delay, when they will already be implemented in the next Zelda. We'll see, I would still definitely treat this as a rumor.
James McGeachie

I think it's extremely, if not certain, that the Rev controls thing is true, because the thing is, the Gamecube is going to be heavily overshadowed by competition next year, making it extremely hard to sell Zelda. With a title they've put this much work into, they're not going to be happy if it hardly sells and gets no attention. The way to combat this? Add exciting new elements to it that will work with their upcoming new console so that it can almost be considered a Revolution launch title and will therefore shift a ton more copies.

Yeah but delaying TP isn't going to help. They need to just work on Zelda REV rather than focus on putting the same stuff in a GC game. And don't worry, TP will hold its own just fine either way..

It doesn't have to be delayed until the Revos launch. Say it launches in June then you play it on the GC and when the Revo comes out you can play it again with the new controls system.
From a marketing standpoint it surely is better to release it close to the Revo though. But maybe Nintendo releases it a few month before the Revos launch for the GC and when the Revo is released they'll bundle it with the Revo - that would shift a lot of units. :yay:

Someone please find the scans to the new NP magazine.
In the 200th volume of Nintendo Power,Kazuaki Morita is interviewed. He's one of the coders for EAD's Zelda Team, and you may recognize some of his work. He's the man responsible for the fishing mini-game you saw in Ocarina of Time and what you will see return in Twilight Princess. There is also a small new screen shot that shows Link out in the marshes, fishing on his canoe.
Nintendo Power also put out a special interview with an artist who did some work for the magazine.
You can see a special Zelda drawing of the original NES Link, cast and enemies.
But the real treat comes in the form of the poster which has a rendition of Twilight Princess Link (see the chain mail) and apparently Twilight Princess Ganondorf. Yes, he looks just like Ocarina of Time's Ganondorf, but please pay close attention and you will notice a small difference.

I'll copy & past my post on gamespot forums that I hope you read:
Everyone knows Orcarina was tricky when they first played it, and so was Majora's Mask, with the huge temples and non-linear temples (meaning you had to go back to old rooms, thus making the game longer). But Wind Waker was very.. simple. The temples, (all though I loved them, much better than OoT's) were a bit straight forward, and you really kept just going forward with simple puzzles.
Now after looking at the latest videos of the E3 demo, the temple looks too simple. Just keep going forward, amazingly simple puzzles (hell, the Deku Tree in OoT had harder puzzles) such as "rolling into a poll", and plain fighting. Though I do love fighting, the puzzles really kept me going and kept the player immersed in the game. Take a look at MM, there was so much you could do at one time, and figuring out what to do in what order. And it wasn't just "Go here" then "go here" then "go here", it was more complex and tricky thinking.
Looking at WW, it was kinda plain sailing (no pun intended). Go here, go here, talk to them, go in temple etc. And I don't want 100 hours of that to be honest in TP. Looking at the latest gameplay for TP, it seems its much more simple than WW, and doesn't look as magical. It looks too easy as well (I mean, the boss takes up 1/4 heart when it hits you).
Anyone else think this or is it only me? Maybe I just need some new screens to re-assure me this is going to be the Zelda we've been waiting for.
right...heres a smart idea right, rev comes out after summer, zelda comes out before summer. since it is a 100 hour game, u dont want to be bored during the summer now. now what do u think of that..HUH HUH
I agree - it needs to be out here by the end of June at the latest, otherwise we won't be getting it until at least September, I'd bet, what with Nintendo's bizarre refusal to release anything when people are off school / uni and actually want new games to play.
And I agree with you, skarmachild, part of what made The Wind Waker such a let down (compared to other Zeldas) was that enemies hardly did any damage, and heart refills were all over the place. I also agree that the dungeons were far too linear - I much explored exploring the N64 games' dungeons. I just hope that, as the forest temple is the first one in the game, it's the easiest, and later ones get much harder / less linear.

I say wait until the game is out before you decide if it's going to be easy or hard. You can't just judge from the trailer or from screens whether the game is hard or not. And, Nintendo are not going to show you screens of certain things. Like the end battle, or key points in the game. They're just showing you basic things. ;)

I'm pretty sure NGC were saying that TP will be released early Spring on GC becasue they wouldnt want to dissapointed/piss off the loyal GC owners.
NGC are saying that Nintendo will re-release TP for the Revo release, only this time TP is implementing funky new Revo controls, meaning that the Big N wouldn;t lost out on a big game due to poor GC sales and that people buying a Revo could play the whole game again as it would be a completly different experience, actually swinging your sword and such.

http://games.kikizo.com/news/200505/135.asp?f=135.asp.
The trail to the above article began from this journal entry:
http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars/2005/12/24/2210
which had a link to this impressive video:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6760524994902687555&q=zelda.
Best to watch it off Google as it streams nice and fast.
Apologies if this has been posted somewhere before, but if not, enjoy!
:)

About whether the game is easy or hard:
The parts I played were pretty easy. The temple I did seemed very simple, I didn't get stuck at it at all. The horseriding battle was very easy, charge forward press a and the guy dies after a couple of times. They hardly ever hit you, even if you get knocked off your horse you only lose a little bit of health.
And I really hope the 'Z' hint button is removed/replaced with an item/fairy. I think Link should find Navi later on or something. You know you want it to happen.
I played two different parts, the E3 demo and another part. The E3 demo had the hint button in it and I'm pretty sure that the other one didn't have the hint button and used it as the targetting system like TWW.

And the horse battles are like, half-way through the game (well not that far, but after the forest dungeon). I hope they rack up the difficulty.

And the horse battles are like, half-way through the game (well not that far, but after the forest dungeon). I hope they rack up the difficulty.people would get frustrated if it was dificult, it was a demo in a crowded space, so it would be dificult to be concentrated on the game all the time, so I think they eased it a bit... it would be great if nintendo put a unlockable "hard" mode in it though :D

OoT and MM were amazingly difficult, and thats part of what made them so great.
Or at least add an instrument, they were awesome.

I definitely wouldn't call OOT difficult. Some parts were very slightly challenging, but that's as hard as it got. MM is probably the perfect difficulty for a 3d Zelda though, it was a good bit harder.
If TP is too easy it'll likely ruin the game for me, because although I liked Wind Waker, it would've been a good deal more satisfying if I actually had to use effort in the entire game. The closest thing to a "hard" moment in it was the Puppet Ganon battle and that was still pretty weak in comparison to most of the MM/OOT fights.
By the way, although Nintendo called the Rev control rumour "speculation", they didn't actually say it was false, so it's still possible. People have argued that there'd be no point because of Rev Zeldas having the same control, however personally I don't expect Revolution Zeldas to control anything like TP with rev control would. Miyamoto said TP would be the last Zelda in its current form, so Rev Zelda's are definitely not just going to be different in the basic controls, we're talking a massive overhaul, one I personally think is going to probably be a first person perspective, with the DS title also being first person as a "test" for the Revolution one, to see how people will react.

well, if shigsy reckons that the game is more 'hardcore' and for the more mature gamer, i would assume that it would be harder.
and that would be great!
in my opinion MM was a more mature game... i mean, that moon and every characters sense of impending doom was quite creepy. if TP is able to instill that feeling into the player, it will be good. i also loved the character interactions in MM. very cool.
i didnt find OoT, MM or WW very hard at all, but that doesnt mean that i didnt find them enjoyable!
i agree with james that nintendo havent ruled out the forwards compatability thing.
looking forward to the TP release!

Today's thing with NGC sticking by their word makes me feel that the Rev control is actually almost definite, one article about it had a really good point about how Nintendo worded their "speculation" comment, it really made it seem like they were just trying to keep it more under wraps.

It will use revolutions controller

I got the NGC copy which mentioned the rev controlls and it's a really good read, they rely on the fact they "know" it will use the rev pad and then make conclustions of how some of the other parts of the game will work.
Edit: Zelda will be so good using the rev pad, do you recon they will sell 2 versions then, or put it all on one disk?, i wonder if the rev will launch will optional zelda bundles, i'm, hopping it will :)

I think you'll only need to buy one game (weren't there rumours that it'd have 2 discs? dunno..) but if you put it on revo it'll give you the option to play with the shell or with rev controls.

On another Zelda related topic, what happened to the "three versions of the game" thing from way back when?
pedrocasilva
12-01-2006, 08:12 PM
On another Zelda related topic, what happened to the "three versions of the game" thing from way back when?don't know... but I guessed back then one of them was a optimized code for revolution, like a alternative path used in home computers, like: "if revo add grass" (over the regular grass texture, "if revo add bump mapping", for example. based on the last info, it could be both, enhanced graphics and control, or just control. (and possibly slightly enhanced graphics like forcing 60 frames per second, AA and AF.)
also back then they said they planned on selling 2 final versions, one cheaper for $10 less and a more expensive one, aparently the versions would feature diferences between them.
It would make sense to blend in a 3rd version of the code to be recognized by revo and add things.

That 3 versions of the game thing was total bull, Nintendo only said that there would be a special edition. I think it was spong that created that rumour. Man I'm psyched for this game.

TP takes place before WW so it should be about Ganon's rise to power, or at least feature ganon. I hope it does, Ganon is the ultimate Villain.

Eh that list was modified later, but I think that's like Wikipedia anyone can modify that. But before that list, it came from an official source, just don't remember where. I'm still hoping 50 cent will voice Epona.

The voice actor lists were from IMDB, which is far from an official source. They accept user submitted information and before something is actually out, they're basically the most UNRELIABLE source, although they're good once it's actually been released. The Japanese voice actors were submitted on assumption they'd be in it (although Ganon has been confirmed in interviews anyway) and the English ones were all a joke.
For anyone who's played the demos by the way, is the combat completely satisfactory? I've noticed they still have the Wind Waker pause effect everytime you do damage and I don't think I like that much with the new visual style.

I was under the impression that it was from an official source BEFORE imdb, but maybe my mind's playing tricks on me. My bad. I actually like that pause effect.

I'm not a fan of the pause effect, I think it's too long a pause, maybe if it was really quick and only on the final/heavy blows I wouldn't mind it so much.

Well on the demo, instead of having a sidekick, you use the Z button for hints.

I believe Nintendo said it would be out soonest March 31st/April 1 - the end of their fiscal year. Whether it was region specific, I don't know. I hope they do release it within a close timeframe though - I need my Zelda fix.
