You can't play games online with the free service, except at certain times when offers are on.

Just pay the money and play on. It's not that much if you pay annually.

Why are you basing on deciding to buy a console because of backwards compatibility? BC is a bonus not something that you should use to decide. Its the games that should do that.

I'm really thinking about getting a Xbox 360 now. They just look soooo nice...

Online looks a blast, considering I've never tried online gaming. Project Gotham Racing looks the bomb.

Other than that though, I think I'll probably wait for PS3 or revoluition. I'm really undecided about the 360 though.....peeps its up to you to persuade me otherwise!!!

Online gaming is the reason I got my Xbox, and the reason I'm getting the Xbox 360. The service is well worth the £30 you pay for it.

Kav, the free service doesn't actually let you play all the time. You can just see who's online and send messages. I think they said you'll get the occaisional weekend that you can play. Just pay the £30-£40 for Gold

That's what I'm doing with the Rev! One of the main reasons I'm buying it is the 5 Generations of games.

But I have been thinking about getting the 360 but I don't think I can fork out so much money for it, especially when the only game I really want in the launch period is Kameo.

After seeing Nintendo's Revolution controller, I have also decided to get a 360 and Kameo, Perfect Dark and maybe Oblivion or Gears of War on launch if possible. Kameo just looks so cool not to get and I can't see Revolution beign able to match the amount of great games that I will be able to get, especially RPG.

Why? It will have a standard controller shell too for 'standard gaming' and with the recent news from Iwata that the graphics will look pretty much the same to XB360, there is no way Revolution can't have say an RPG on Xbox 360 because of the controller/graphics. Rev will be capable of playing standard games on the 360 just fine, if not better.

Gamestation, Game and now woolworths have stopped taking preorders in my area!

I've already preordered from Gameplay on 17th August, but i'm REALLY worried that the extreme shortages (50,000 for the whole of the UK) is going to make it so that only shops can sell it and no online retailers, can they do that?

Well theres always Ebay but to be honest i don't trust spending that sort of money on there!!!!

I so hope i get one! :weep:

I wouldn't worry too much. I seem to remember a similar thing happening in regards to a certain portable gaming device earlier in the month, but on the launch date you could still walk in to shops and buy one straight off the shelf.

^The person in Gamestation, which sounded really informative and knew what he was talking about.

He stated the UK were getting 50,000 XBOX360's and that Gamestation stores around the country were getting 15,000 of that amount.

I've tried other game websites but all state they now can't gurantee delivery on release day.

Gameplay did state i will most probably get one for launch day as i preordered the day it went up on the website (17/08/05), but for some stupid reason i'm still worried.

i have a 99.9% chance of getting one, but i want to preorder somewhere else as well to 100% make sure i get one!

Its a load of rubbish - no-one knows allocations yet, much less some Gamestation goon.

Let me rephrase - the guy claiming those figures is talking bull, as he has no proof. Having said that though, there is quite a high likelihood that there will be severe shortages. Trust me on this though - there are NO official figures yet in terms of allocation. And I should know - I get hassled about it enough by Game and Gamestation in a day. ;)

On a side note, I have preordered mine from Game in case MS dont let us preorder directly through the company ;) I am 5th on the list, so they had better get at least 5!

Random question regarding xbox live subscriptions i know we can take our gamertag over to 360 but say for example i need to renew my live subscription at the end of the month and pay whatever it is for another 12 months when it comes to 360 i'll have like 10 months left will i be able to use those on 360 or will i have to subscribe again to this gold service ? anybody know?

The paid subscription will carry across to the 360 when you register your username again. You wont need to pay again.

I pre-ordered mine back early Sept. I think MS will probably have atleast 250K consoles for Europe. And i mean atleast. They've been on the production lines since last Christmas as they stopped producing XBOX1's. Seriously, they wouldn't do a worldwide launch if they didn't know what they were doing.

They do have like 20 odd places making them pretty much none stop.
Youd think that...but from the incredibly late release date and the lack of information concerning allocation, Im starting to wonder. They have told us that they will "meet demand", but at present I really dont see how thats feasible.

Oh well. Hopefully youre right and they do know. I certainly pray that that is the case.

Consoles are always down to the games for me. I look at the 360 and see really good titles that will be out when the system arrives this year. I'd like to play PGR3, Perfect Dark Zero, Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter, Dead or Alive 4, Kameo and Ridge Racer 6. I know that they have a chance to end up being crap and all, but I'm willing to bet that some of them won't be and I shall be first inline to try play these new great next gen games.

The thing is, even if PS3 has slightly more power, I've heard 360 can still perform better visually. Power isn't everything you know. Also, 360 and REV will be easy to develop for, whereas i've heard PS3 won't and developers are starting to drop support because it is expensive and difficult to develop for.

Xbox Live is awesome, the best thing about the Xbox, I wouldn't play it if I didn't have XBL, I bought it for XBL. There is no way Nintendo can make a better online service, with the way the DS is going I doubt they'll have a decent online service at all, no voice-chat in Mario Kart or Animal Crossing, you don't even get a name, just a "gamer code" and by the sounds of it you get a different one for every game!

And one more thing... Halo 3 is going to come out for the Xbox 360!!!!!! That's reason enough to buy it.

Anyone know how much the games are going to be? Gameplay have listed them as £39.99, which although would be fairly normal for a shop, its expensive because GC/PS2/Xbox games are all £10 cheaper than RRP(All £29.99)
I hope this doesn't hint towards the games being as much as £45-£50 in shops and £40 on net :hmm:

I think the games in game shops will be £44.99-£49.99! sadly...

Good old gameplay will most probably sell them at £37.99-£39.99!

I can't wait for the 360 myself, it's gonna be a blast! :D

However, I'm gonna wait until after Christmas to get it - I got other commitments such as uni and getting people presents. I've asked for a 360 as a gift, I've said even if it's the only thing I get this Christmas (with a game obviously :p) I'm not bothered, but everyone is still saying no. :( If I get enough cash I'll get me a 360 afterwards and PD Zero will be one of my first 360 games. Yayness!! ^_^

Two Masterchiefs works just fine.

It's better to suspend your disbelief and just get on with it.

One the major plus points of playing co-op is you have someone other than yourself to blame when things don't go so well. (If you find yourself playing a game with Guy be careful not to get him in one of his huffs).

Well i have now also preordered another system at 'Comet', it's a MASSIVE store and i'm 4th-5th in the line:

He stated 'Our allocation is that of the preorders we get and a few left over for customers to come in and pick one up', he did state they won't get alot of them though. Although i'm pleased he said i will get one. So that worry is over! :awesome:

Getting a new tv next week for all the next gen systems, has an hdmi port as well, for the sky hd box.

As far as what launch titles im getting, ive preordered, kameo, dead or alive 4, perfect dark zero and project gotham racing 3. From what ive heard though could be like two games there that dont make launch if not ill just get gun and tony hawks.

At launch I've decided i'm 100% getting Kameo, and one other game. For the other game i'll wait till I hear some reviews and opinions then decide, but PD0 is looking likely right now.

i'm very looking forward to Lost Odysee and Blue Dragon in the future though, hopefully they'll come out in Europe.

I think PD0 could have around 32 players+, so if the gameplay's up to scratch and it doesnt become a lag-a-fest, then it should be a worthy rival to Halo's crown.

The Xbox 360 does not come with built in wireless capability, you have to buy an overpriced adapter. I'm not sure if there are cheaper third party options that will work at the moment.

Consumer game website GameSpot managed to contact David Reid, director of platform marketing for the Xbox, who went a little further towards a concrete announcement, commenting "there will be 15 to 20 Xbox 360 titles available on launch day."

Of those titles, Reid was only willing to specifically name Microsoft and EA-published games as being available at Xbox 360 launch: Project Gotham Racing 3, Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero, Madden NFL 06, NBA Live 06, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06, Need for Speed Most Wanted, and Xbox 360 exclusive FIFA 06: Road to FIFA World Cup.

I hope they don't put back the Xbox360 because people are saying to them, perhaps it's best to sort out all the niggles before releasing it, why don't you release it 'spring-2006' I'M NOT WAITING ANY LONGER!!!!!!!!!!!

The games are going to be good,don't worry, alot of them have been in development for sometime, so the rush at the end shouldn't effect their quality, every launch is a 'panic'.

The second batch (so i've been told) should be in December, but quite near Xmas, but GAME stated we ain't promising anything. Overall it really wouldn't surprise me if we are talking Next year, (Jan-Feb time)

Supposeadly, Microsoft we be sending 150,000 Xbox360 weekly after launch, but i have no-idea if this is for Europe or if it's 100% true.

Microsoft have actually been 'very' quiet, lately. They really are putting all there efforts in, to make sure as many Xbox360's are availible at launch as possible....

Your right, i went to Comet in 'Clacton' and they didn't know what the Xbox360 was, (obviously this is bad, but they will get some in on launch day and no-one would of preordered)

Then i went to my other Comet in Colchester and i'm 4th in line, so no-one seems to be using the electronic stores, like PCWORLD...COMET, CURRYS etc..

You may not have any problems getting one on launch day, but it is better to be safe then sorry!

PGR3 isn't my thing
Ridge Racer isn't going to make EU launch.
Neither is DoA4.

I might just buy the console and wait for reviews.

IGN say that Kameo feels like the most "next-gen" game on the 360, they even say it's got a "Nintendo feel" to it! That can only be good!

PD0 has had some mixed impressions, but i'll give it a go definately!

There are people on the forum who have pre-ordered the console and aren't really bothered about the games that'll be out at release. So it's working.

I have ordered PGR 3 with my xbox and hope it will come at launch as some of the new vids i have seen for it are great#! the detail they have put into the game.

360 'Demo Pods' have just been rolled out to Wal-Marts across the states and the previously shown power adapter isn't part of the kit..

Taken from this morning's update on www.360monster.com:

"Oh and by the way, our recent news story about the huge power-lump has been confirmed as a random power adapter. How do we know? Well the 360 pod power adapters are alot smaller in Wal-Mart!"

Not sure if there's a special 'Wal-Mart friendly' adapter, but I doubt it..

Sadly: Ghost Recon 3 (we knew this), Top Spin 2, and Elder Scrolls Oblivion have all been delayed.

Top Spin 2 has been moved in Q1 2006, while Elder Scrolls Oblivion may be delayed by 1-2 weeks, which isn't that bad really!

41 DAYS TO GO! (Could well be 40 if you use Gameplay) :D

like i said before i'll be much happier when we get into November! At least then, the real countdown begins, lucky Americans get it in like 30 days...

comet told me alot have been faulty so there taking them back and re -testing them, so i doubt much will be wrong with most of them this shows there giving them a good test and slo mate remeber, they have a 1 year warenty.

My thoughts exactly, it's very worrying, Microsoft definately have something to hide, PDZ is no-where near finished either i reckon, so many magazine previews are saying this!

I reckon it will be delayed and released 16th December 2005, i'm still certain it won't make launch, either that or another 'top' title is no-where near finished! PGR3 anyone??

Lets hope i'm wrong, otherwise this so called 'best launch ever' is turning out to be one hell of a anti-climax....

However Jordan, you may still be able to get a 'Core System' from them, and just buy the hard-drive? Then again you are missing out on alot of extras.

Microsoft want to sell 4.5 - 5 million by the end of 2005, if thats the case, there shouldn't be a shortage. (i got this info from another board, and the person claims it's on gamespot).

I don't know where-ever to believe this or not, but PDZ is rumoured to miss the 'EUROPEAN LAUNCH' due to the fact that it hasn't gone in for certification, i think the news section was old though, and knicked from Gamespot, so i reckon we will be ok...Surely Microsoft won't allow another big-game to miss launch? PDZ is set to be one of the biggest launch titles even if it isn't as good as we hoped!

Firstly i was only trying to help, secondly the HDD (if you mean the 20GB Hard-Drive) is £69.99 on Gameplay

I understand it would be dearer buying the extra cables and that...but from my perspective there not 100% needed, sorry if they are for you!

It might end up that i buy a Core system and then the Hard-drive, just to make sure i get one on launch day!

lol so what? It's the amount you're paying that matters. If you take into account that an equal job would earn more dollars than it would pounds, and the actual economy, not the numeric value...

Not only that but I am English, I'm only here for a bit, and my account is all in pounds, so if I buy an Xbox 360 with my card then check my account, its going to be my money in pounds that has decreased, by less than if I bought it in the UK.

Incidentally I'll probably wait until after Christmas anyway. These days games aren't quite as important to me, although I would love to get my hands on the new Perfect Dark. No doubt after Christmas availability will be much more realistic and there may even be a sale.

Do you realise what you are saying. Its actually 4.5 million by middle next year, and that is how much they want to ship. that number is worldwide as well, which means there will be massive shortages as that is a very small number of units for worlwide for the next 7 months.

Anyway, i spoke to Gameplay yesterday! and they seem 100% confident that the people who preordered before 23/08 would get one, Lets hope there right! A awful lot of people have preordered on there!

Oh and i'm getting Amped 3 Jordan, it's supposeadly ( can't spell it) more arcadey to play, i liked the realism of the first one, but i would of liked it to be a bit more easy to do jumps/tricks etc.. and Amped 3 is like that! It could be like a more realistic SSX Tricky! :D

For those interested, PD0 is definitely the prettiest of the three I played, although beyond that I cant really comment much as I didnt get to experience any of the story and things, so it just felt like a very generic FPS. Definitely looks nice though. PGR3 was quite nice looking; certainly, the tracks look spanking, but I personally thought the cars were nothing special to look at really (maybe its just me). Kameo looked very standard on the level I played, but it was just a tutorial section so Im expecting it to look better later on in the game.

All 3 are down for a definite Euro release on 360 launch day. DOA will be out the week after. Trust me - PD0 will be out for lauch, Owen! ;) Also, dont watch any more of the videos theyre showing; they really do no justice to the game (at least, none that I have seen).

As for stock, there are no confirmed figures, but it WILL be in very short supply. I think allocation is being based largely on preorders for now, though could be wrong. There will hopefully be a second shipment before Christmas.
