I had a few muliplayer/deathmatch games on Army of Two via Live and it was quite good. Its great how we are seperate from the yank servers so now I dont have to listen to then yap on about mothers and stuff :) So far everyone is pretty friendly on the servers which is a rare thing on Live.

Awesome how people are complaining about Wii games being region locked online, and then your celebrating that they are on Xbox Live, similarly people complaining at the lack of voice chat on Wii and your glad to get rid of it (or a certain part of it anyway)

Not having a go, it's just interesting to see the two sides of the coin.

I rarely use my headset unless I'm playing with friends or my fellow forum chappies, in which case the headset/live combination is brilliant. Otherwise, when I'm playing Halo alone or what have you, I leave the headset and just spend the game chuckling at the insults being hurled at around from across the pond. I once got called a "nigger-jew".

Anyway, Live is definitely worth getting. Most online multi player games don't really need you to wear the headset to fully enjoy them anyway.

If you have some friends to play with.
Live is only good for me in groups of people. Gears of War, Halo, COD4, TF2, etc.
Gone are those days though. I remember not going on Live for quite a while, maybe two months or so then I come back on to see no-one ever played anymore. I tried to get a game of Halo going and then that night. That very night Live went bust. Now, no-one plays of the old group of people that is.

What actually happened to Live then does anyone know? All we got was Undertow as a sorry but were the servers hacked or something?

You'll get a month's trial of Gold when you create your Gamertag, so that would be the easiest way to find out if you're interested.

If you get a headset with your 360 then you can always plug that in and leave it on the side; this technique has saved my sanity plenty of times. Admittedly I don't really 'get' trashtalking, but on Live it tends to boil down to racial or sexual slurs in every game. It's like being locked in a room with Jim Davidson.

I've never been on the end of any abuse on Live. I think some of these pre-conceptions are putting peope off going online.
In R6V there was actually a girl gamer. A pretty good one aswell, her armour was all pink and her gamertag was something girly. She didn't seem to be getting any abuse.

Oddly, I don't recall ever having any issues with Vegas. In fact I had a great time with these two French guys where we decided to keep the game as pistols only. Smaller communities tend to be far friendlier.

I don't think people should be put off by it, per se; it's easy to shut everyone up one way or another. Just don't don your headset expecting amiable conversation, as more often than not you'll be horribly disappointed.

They're all in Halo 3 now you see, and are also to be found in Army of Two I hear. Generally any games that are designed to appeal to high-pitched pre-teen American boys. Most other games are generally fine otherwise. PGR4 is full of laid-back German racing fans.

Aimless and gaggle you're both right. It's the games without strategy that attract all the idiots. Games like Vegas which require you to sneak around and think have some good people in it.
Live should probably have a suffix. 'Best experienced with friends', because it is.

I don't think it's necessarily a strategy thing. PGR4 has roughly the same driving model as a Scalectrix set. I tend to think it has more do with the bullets and blood element. A pair of blood thirsty, psychotic mercenariness murdering hundred's of "America's enemies" for fun? "Fuckin' a."

Hopefully. It all started going down hill with R6V.
Everyone was getting bored of Gears so it was suggested R6V which was only £18 at the time but no-one wanted to get it. Some of us played that whil others went off crying because they didn't want to buy it.
Gears 2 and R6V2 hopefully might bring back those nights of sitting in the lobby telling jokes at 1 in the morning.

Like it was said earlier, when you sign up to Live you get a months trial anyway. If you like it go ahead and buy a year one or 3 months one. If not then you don't ever have to go online.
I was just looking down my list of games to counter that all online games are shooters but I can't. Nearly all of my games I have played online on are shooters. Crackdown is fucking A though.
Guitar Hero is online if you want to get that, skate. and TH games, Virtua Tennis, there's more but I don't have any on my games list.
You have the Arcade games that are a blast on Live aswell. Bomberman, Uno, N+, Worms, Marble Blast Ultra, etc.
I'm not trying to force you to get Live, it's just really good.

Well, we don't know.
The PS3 version is bound to have a giant install, since the blu ray drive is pretty slow at loading large volumes of data. The 360 game has to fit on a single disc so might have lower resolution textures, but better comparable loading times due to its quick DVD drive.

We'll see how it goes!

There are some excellent applications and franchises on the the PS3 (Little Big World, Home, GT4, MGS4, the big Final Fantasy epics, etc.) which definitely make the PS3 a very attractive, especially with the most recent price cuts and Blu-Ray's triumph in the HD format war. I went for 360 because of it's low price and pre-existing library of cheap games, but if you've got the cash the PS3 is no doubt a worthy investment.

Check out that agressive pricing, the fact a Premium 360 is ?9.99 more than a wii is insane. I still don't think Nintendo are in any pressure to drop their price in reaction to Microsofts moves. But my god for ?10 your getting a lot more for you money ( in terms for hardware )

I'm going to get it on the PS3 for two reasons: so my brother can play online without using my profile, and because the DLC doesn't really interest me.

I don't play GTA games for the missions, I just enjoy exploring the worlds and messing around. I will go through the story but that isn't the driving force behind the game for me; I'll more than likely progress the narrative simply to broaden my options. With this in mind, the DLC isn't really a big deal to me.

Of course this decision does hinge on one proviso: performance. If the 360 version turns out to run noticeably better than the PS3 version then I'll get it for the Xbox.

Like what? I've finished all the games that are out for the system I'm bothered about. The only games confirmed that i care about playing are Gears, Banjo and Halo Wars.

I only have the space and time for one machine and the PS3 serves my needs more.

Back on the GTA issue the DLC does not bother my at all, at the end of the day we all know it's gonna be a really long game. By the time you do all the missions, run round killing old people for no reason and the other bonus stuff there is to do most people will have had enough by then. Then when the DLC comes out in the fall i will have Gears, Resistance 2, Little Big Planet, Killzone 2 etc to play.

Lol. Yes, I'm a big fan of the MGS series but for me, the 360 really has the better games on it. Not gonna get a PS3 for just one game tbh. Only when it starts getting a bigger and better library of games will I think about getting the PS3.

Touche'. A lot of the big series have gone multiplatform this generation; Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Soul Calibur, Devil May Cry and GTA.

There's a future for both consoles. Games will come out eventually, just because nothing is announced now doesn't mean there won't be anything. It's just choosing which one will suit your needs for the long run.

PES 2008 is complete shit even many other hardcore PES fans admit that (apart from those clutching at straws), at least last year Fifa 08 came out on top in terms of everything (gameplay, graphics and sound well apart from player models). Konami have alot of work to do to make PES 09 a big improvement for next gen.

Played Eternal Sonata and Beautiful Katamari today. The battle system in ES is fun and the graphics amazing, but the story and characters not so good. And what's with the piano music with real life photos? Worst time filler ever. Katamari is fun as always, but the Kings feels harsher than before. I usually get under 50 points. Got 27 two times.

Im currently playing The Simpsons. Has anyone else played it?

The demo is kinda frustrating a bit of a strange level to chose for the demo, but the game is really awesome to be honest with you. The difficulty level is good, apart from the level Im on know basically as soon as you get Homer and Bart over together on this section it spawns like 20 enemies, and 2 flying enemies that shoot lasers on top of the platform you need to be.

Same thing has happened to me. At what part did yours crash the second time? Mine has crashed twice on Lost Odyssey, once exactly the part you were on. It's fine with any other game as well. I think it may be the game? Does the framerate sudddenly choke and the battle music stop when the disc read error occurs?

The first one kept freezing etc...the second ones disc-tray opens randomly when playing a game and the third is a elite which is ok at the mo (touch bloody wood).

I think I must have a faulty xbox, since ive got it back from MS last September I cant actualy hear it when watching DVD's, HD-DVD's and the only time its noticeable during games is when the Disc drive spins.

I had my 360 vertical for the first couple of weeks, then Viva Pinata stopped working and started crashing the system, personally I think it was just the disk, but when I swapped it for a new copy, they assured me I should have it horizontal.

Got to watch a demo playthrough of Far Cry 2 today - narrated by the narrative director and played by the producer. It was a really early code - 4 months old - but even then the game looked gorgeous and all the dynamic wind/vegetation/weather added great variety to the gameplay and interesting new mechanics. Like when he used the flamethrower in tandem with the wind to set fire to a thatched roof that an enemy perched on.

Hangliding to safety also seems cool; and the dynamic between the two factions in key locations seems interesting - should be fun starting of unwarranted scuffles.

Which is why I enjoy playing Arcade games more than disc games. Mine makes some funky noise, I think the fan is making it I'm not sure. Hella loud though. Stops after a while, it's louder than when a disc is spinning.
It's loudness does deter me from using it as a dvd player. I watched Firefly on my PS3 because of the noise difference.

Having played both Rock Band and Guitar Hero III, the ONLY thing that I like about Guitar Hero III compared to Rock Band is that it shows your streak of notes, while Rock Band does not.

And the GH guitar strummer is a tad better, but its all in opinion (feels more solid) and it can be used on RB anyway, while the RB guitar can't be used on GH...

I have plugged it in and done the test connection thing but nothing happens other than telling me the obvious; I have a wireless device connected. I keep getting told that I'm not connected when try the Xbox live menu. Wii works fine btw.

Assumably yes. They havnt confirmed specifically but they said previously that at the time of the Legendary DLC the Heroic will become free, and will in fact be a mandatory download to participate in several MM playlists including Ranked BTB.

Go really, really slowly, yet the gunship and your squad do the hard work, and stick with your starting piece - scoped silenced fully automatic rifle and underslung grenade launcher with 9-odd rounds? Yes please!

The sniper rifle found in the church tower makes a nice replacement for your pistol (or if you don't like the starting weapon at short range, a shotgun or MP5 will do nicely), and when it comes to rooms, flashbangs are a god-send.

Last time I did that level (albeit on Hard), I found the sniper/gunship combo followed by a rush with the assault rifle works a treat, going from building to building.

The problem is the infinitely respawning enemies. You can't clear out a building like you'd want to because 5 seconds after you've killed a guard at one position another respawns in the same place meaning you can't advance. That's my big big gripe with the game.

....You just need to watch the videos on YouTube and copy exactly what they do. Then you need some luck.

I did the whole of CoD4 on veteren. It was a combination of luck, skill and moving very slowly. Just wait until you get to the bits where you have to run to an extraction point with a time limit, or do the silo level with enough time to spare. The silo level took me about 3 days to complete. Also the plane after mission is outright impossible, don't even try.
