Mine would be Ocarina of Time;

Having been through such an amazing experience, i thought the ending was sublime, and ended the story perfectly;

The scene of Link and Zelda saying goodbye, The Party,
The Sages watching over and knowing their work is done,
Link returning the Master Sword, then returning to see Zelda;
all accompanied by a fantastic, emotional music soundtrack;
Also i love how the camera flew over all of Hyrule,
showing you all the places you've been on your epic journey,
and Epona galloping across the field!
Overall, fantastic and moving!

I don't know what the best ending ever is really.
I'd have to say Second Sight is quite a good one though
I was quite disappointed with Wind Wakers one

A bit of a dangerous thread this, as many people have yet to play many of the games which will be suggested, and theres bound to be spoilers, some may be forgotten to be put in a spoiler box.

Anyways, I'd have to say Majora's Mask. Don't get me wrong, I loved OOT's ending aswell, but MM's ending was possibly the closest to magical an ending could get. The best bit was (not really a spoiler, but I'll put it in a spoiler box anyway)...

When you see the words 'A New Day' in black text on a white

background, as apposed to white text on a black background,

which is shown to instruct when a new day begins ^^

What about DKC II? When you complete it with everything down in the Lost World. It was nice with them looking out over the ocean.

Mario 64 aswell, the Princess coming down from the stain glass window and all. "Thank you so much for t'playing my game!"

And Majora's Mask. Great game, great ending.

I completely agree. Majora's Mask remains one of my favorite games. If you work at it, you can become completely absorbed in the world. Twas a proud moment when I finished getting all the masks.

Hooo boy, this was a tough one, but I would have to say Zelda III on SNES. That ending has a place in my heart. The music during the entire ending (especially where the camera goes over the mountain-range and the credit is shown) was, IS, a masterpiece.

yeah one of the best endings ever was OOT that was awesome! i saved just before the last battle so went back and done it quite a few times to see the ending again and again! ah those were the days.

mario on the original gameboy has a feel good ending after the aeroplane level :)

Ocarina of Time did have a very cool ending, so did Tales of Symphonia. I thought Metal Gear Solid had a great ending, personally. Ocarina probably sticks with me the most though, simply for some of the hauntingly good music and scenes in that sequence. You really did feel like you'd saved the world.

Mario 64 has great ending music, by the way.

A few favourites spring to mind. A Link to the Past had a great end credit sequence. The music was magical. I liked the super monkey ball idea of collecting bananas while the credits dropped, but it went on a bit too long imo. I always liked the ending to Phantasy Star on the Master System too.

Yeah i've saved before the Ganondorf battle aswell, and replay from that save quite often just to relive one of the best boss battles and endings ever!

I found Super Mario Land to be very hard when i got it; i was quite young and i was SOOO proud to have completed it!!!!!

Final Fantasy IX had a wicked ending!!

You think Zidane is dead, and theres garnet all sad and alone watching the same play as how the game started, and then theres a firmiliar face on the stage, and she rushes down and drops the royal thingy..and leaves it. and then she runs into zidanes arms and its very cute, stiener and beitrix raise the big fat sword and theres light shining off it..very nice ending indeed

Same here. An absoloutly phonomenal ending to the most original and deep game seen in years presented in the most spectacular of fashions. The Donnie Darko of games. All must play it.

Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask also ofcourse are worth a mention, and i'm gonna bet we get a similarly incredible ending to Twilight Princess.

In my opinion though we still have a way to go with video-game endings. Movies these days can have absoloutly brilliant endings e.g. Fight Club, Sin City, Snatch, Downfall (German Film about the last days of Hitler and the Nazi rule, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) Life Aquatic and many others i can't think of right now. Killer 7 was a huge step in the right direction, but we still have a way to go.

You better read this (http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/gamecube/file/killer7_plot.txt) which sums up the game plot.

OoT, MM and WW have great endings. Mario 64 ending is pretty cool, I have no idea why but it rocks. MGS3, FFX and Chrono Trigger endings rule too. And of course Eternal Darkness. "I was once a fool"

Rolf

Half Life 2. It was neat when everything slowed down - explosion and all - then froze. I said 'Woah'.

Like Neo.

So, yeah - either HL2 or Eternal Darkness.

AND!

While we're on the subject of game endings. At the end of Starfox Adventures: Dinosaur Planet, the final building you go into - the big one - I can't be any more specific - is the floor texture in there, the same as in the Carrington Institute bottom-level lobby on Perfect Dark? I'd check, just to make sure, but I sold Dinosaur Planet when I finished it. But I think it is the same, from memory.

I like the music in the Mario Kart 64 ending.
That ending made me cry when I was 8!
I also liked the "ending" in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

DiemetriX is not allowed to read this, neither is anyone else who hasn't finished episode 4 of Phoenix Wright:
When you kind of see diffrent interviews with all the characters from the game,
and they talk about you and what a great person you are :P
(p.s. by "ending" I meant the first ending of course)

I loved both OOT and Majora's Mask endings, but OOT will always have a special place in my heart :D

And I remember watching the ending of SMB3 when I was 6 years old. (finishing SMB3 at the age of 6 was a very big thing)

I also really love the final grpahic on the game.

I thought SM64 was a bit of a dissapoiting ending really.. then again when i first did it i thought it waqs pretty good.

I remember a Neo-Geo(or was it arcade?) game me and a pal of mine played at a friends/or in a pub or something, it was a sidescrolling shooter - a la Contra etc, and when you completed it it turned out that you had been working for bad guys bent on world domination all along. And you didn't get any chance to kill em or so, you might even joined them :) :P

Eternal Darkness is definitely one of the endings I liked the most of the current gen.

And Majoras Mask is my favourite Zelda ending, but then I include the end battles etc too.

Secret of Mana (awesome!)
and thats all i can think of at the moment...

Come to think of it, Earthbound had a very nice ending. remember how you had to pray to all the people of the world to beat the last boss? that was a goodie.

hey, ive just finished Terranigma (on cartridge might i add)...
how bizzare is the ending?!

My favorite ending would be that of Final fantasy 7 Especially after seeing Advent children.

When red and his children run across the plains and end on a cliff overlooking a really old and deserted Midgar

Next in the line would be final fantasy X and X2 (mostly X2 because I really had to work hard to get it)
When first Tidus seems to have dissapeared and when you finish X2 he wakes up underwater and swims up to Yuna.

I generally dont really like the Zelda endings because it marks the end of a really great game. I think ÓOT's ending is kinda weak compared to the game itself. It's pretty and really good but just so sad that the game had already ended. (me wants more)

Majora's Mask's ending has a real bittersweet taste to it. Not because everything gets resolved - it doesn't. Even though the credits sequence shows everyone's best endings, no matter what you do, you can't save everyone. You can't be the hero and save the day completely - if you stop Sakon robbing the old lady from the bomb shop, Anju and Kafei can never be reunited. If you want to help Anju and Kafei, you have to let the old lady be mugged. Even though you can rewind time and make sure everything happens right at least once, you can't help everyone at once.

I liked the ending of Tetris, the classic GB-version. When you score about 200 lines or more you get to see a rocket being launched, and some hoopleheads apparently feeling compellingly totemistic about it start dancing away. That's brilliant.

And of course, OoT. Not that the ending was that great, but getting any ending after such a game is what it was all about. Well earned.

OoT - was so emotional! Probably the closest i'll ever come to crying at a game (and not out of frustration). Mind you a lot of the sadness was from having completed it and knowing i'd seen everything.

Killer 7 - Didn't understand it, but liked it. Very stylish and hard-hitting.

Super Mario World - it was my first experience of completing a game and luckily it WAS a good ending as well so i have very good memories of it. I liked the music and cast of characters and the little baby Yoshi's hatching (even though they're quite ugly as babies).

One thing always kept me puzzled in the ending of Majora's Mask, in the end sequence you see the Deku Princess's butler crying next to the weird-looking tree that's found at the start of the game...
if you remember rightly:

1) the butler had a son that looked exactly like you. (end of pig mask quest)
2) right at the start, the fairy says that you have the same expression and look the same as the weird looking tree.

ipso. the weird looking tree is the butlers dead son. SO THATS WHAT HAPPENS TO DEKUS WHEN THEY DIE!!!! OH HOW TRAGIC!

anyway. killer7 did have an interesting ending. Pancake, you really should look up a plot analysis for killer7. there is some AMAZING stuff out there.

I actually like the ending to HL2 - Episode 1. That whole thing of speedin away from the city, only to watch the massive blue explosion storm it's way towards you from over the horizon.

Grim Fandango on the PC has a really moving ending. In fact, that game's got probably my favourite storyline in gaming.

I'd put my money on Link to the Past!

"Sweet, man, my freaking uncle recovered! I thought he was dead!"

Also, it was the first game I had ever seen through to the end, so it's naturally burned into my brain. I just like the sense of acheivment.

By far Shadow of the Colossus has one of the most depressing endings ever.

But then again it is by far one of the most moving and meaningful.

This is why it is my favourite ending ever, even though my mouth started to dry up at the end of Final Fantasy X (sniff, sniff).

And sadly Metal Gear Solid 2 has the silliest ending ever.
