View Full Version : Weight to the Revolution's new name?

Could we be discussing the Nintendo RS next month? With Ubisoft releasing details on Red Steal, it seems coincidence that the games namr mirrors the rumoured RS name.

If, and it is an IF, the Revolution is called the Nintendo RS, perhaps it would be an acronym for Nintendo Revolution System?

I really wouldn't mind it to be the Nintendo RS.

But now with Red Steel, it seems to be the second last nail in the coffin.

32 days to go.

I rreally dobt that, just like DS did Revolution should keep its project name as it does describe the system really well.

exactly, revoulution is the perfect word to describe where nintendo are going with the game industry.

Why would the name of a game from a developer other than Nintendo give anything away for the final name of the Rev? The name could be RS but it could also be a lot of other names, I don't see the connection between having a game called Red Steel and the name Nintendo RS. The DS didn't have a game that used it's name did it?

If it was called Red Steel RS then yeah, I'd have to agree but it's just Red Steel. It's just the name of a game, if they'd have called it "Steel of Redness" would you be saying the Rev will be called Nintendo SoR?

Nintendo RS is still a good name for the system though, and could well be the final name but I wouldn't base that on this game's name.

The DS's project name was 'Nitro' actually so it did change.

I certainly hope its not Nintendo RS.

In Australia RS is slang for RAT SHIITE.

"Hey guys, look at Tommy, he's playing that RAT SHIITE Nintendo console"

"WTF, the new Nintendo RS console is RAT SHIITE"

Bah, don't like RS it's too similar to DS. Nintendo DS and Nintendo RS sound like catalogue codes instead of real console names. They can come up with something better!

Don't generalise, I haven't heard someone use that term for years, furthermore, I've hardly ever heard someone abbreviate it to RS.

I'm from Melbourne and I hear this term a lot. I wasnt having a go at the Rev, but I can see this happening.

Yes, they're going to call it something which in common speech will sound like the "Nintendo ARSE".

I don't need a link that thinks it can tell me what it thinks it knows to be common speech in a place I live in.

Poor Melbourne, slipping down the drain every year. Such a pitty too, it's so much better than Sydney.

Regardless, I don't think the console should remain with Revolution, it sounds far too cocky.

Nintendo aRSe

I'll be happy with that, because at least they've kept Revolution in the name- my favourite bit.

I'll still call it Revolution for short if they name it RS.

I'd put money on it, and i'm not a gambler. It would make sense for many, many reasons.
It would be keeping the Revolution name, and the hype that has been generated along with this name will stick.
It's giving it a catchy name that doesn't sound cliched or aged. (playstation3 anyone?)
It is showing that the console is from the same company to that who created the NintendoDS. Shows a link. Keeps the continuity.

You knows it.

Colin

I'm pretty sure they won't keep the Revolution name, as it's just too many syllables for a mainstream catchy name.

God knows what'll be though ??? But RS seems too close to the DS name, but I dunno whether that's a good thing or not?

I thought they overdid it with the DS games.. I mean
Mario Kart DS, fair enough it needed a title to differentiate it from the other Mario Karts.
But Dawn of Souls?
Deadly Silence?
Advanced Wars: Dual Strike
Dig Dug Digging Strike (WTF)
Guilty Gear Dust Strikers
Lunar: Dragon Song
Mr. Driller Drill Spirits
Poker: Deluxe Series
and a wealth of other titles that were just plain lazy to think of something original so just named it Harvest Moon DS (for example)

It's not hard to come up with something original and catchy.. I mean, No End Soon wasn't such a bad name really.. despite being a homage to the NES. And WarioWare Touched!/Pushed!
That's original but still echoes what the system can do.. Yoshi Touch and Go, crap game but good name.

I hope we don't get a load of games named RS just because the system is called that and it's an exclusive game.. that will suck balls if that's the case.

I mean, we don't get 'Grand Theft Auto: pussy street party' or Gran Turismo: perfect simulator portable'

So why plague the Revolution with a bunch of titles with names that barely relate to the plot. I'll let Red Steel off if the name is in fact Revolution System.. but I really don't want to see 20 other launch titles with RS in the name.

As much as you'd hate it, i can really see it happening. It didn't happen on the gamecube though. We didn't see Mario Kart gamecube. Or F zero gamecube. So..maybe. Just maybe.

I was wondering about that the other day.. I think Nintendo would be crazy to do so because they'd be creating an axe wound across the internet.
I don't think it would be wise to change.. but it's not more than a few days work to switch it.

Maybe we will, maybe we won't. It's not even a problem, with things like redirects. :)
And, we've already established a user base under the revolution name. I'd be happy to keep this site name even if Nintendo decide to change the name of their new console.

I think they should keep the Revolution name. Don't even bother with Revolution System. We'd all probably shorten it to Revo anyway. Most people who play games know the Revolution as the Revolution. Plus whats wrong with Nintendo being ballsy for a change and naming it that.

IMJ
09-04-2006, 02:51 PM
Even though I like the name Nintendo RS and makes a link to the Nintendo DS, it just sounds too much like Nintendo Arse, like someone stated previously.

I don't see them keeping the name Revolution either. Do you realize how many products, services or trademarks has something called "Revolution" in it? It's too cliché and overused for such an innovative product.

My bet is it'll be something universal, mainstream, that doesn't have a direct link to gaming and yet it does. Something along the lines like Nintendo Go, but then something else. Um, yeah, I'm being vague huh?

Ty say: The Nintendo PS360.

Thats what it should be, because its entertaining, and just like the original it will change how games are played, plus its going to have all those Retro games on it...Right. I’m pretty sure I heard the Revolution being referred to as the Nintendo RS a few months before Red Steel was even announced publicly, but then again that could always be coincidence.

Blue Wave would fit quite nicely with the wave like effects Nintendo WiFi seems to be putting forward (along with its colour scheme).

blue wave has NO charm. it's not catchy and it's ugly. They said we will love the name and it won't be rev so I believe RS is not the name for it.

Fierce_LiNk

They'll be hardpressed to come up with a name that sounds better than Revolution. That's my opinion on the matter.
A lot of people don't even call it the Revolution. They refer to it as the Revo, or the Rev. The true makings of a good, catchy name. ;)

Blue Wave is really ugly for the console! It's more or less nice for the controler but for the console it's too bad.
I guess the "Best" thing to do would be going back to "Power Rangers time" and start adding prefixes to the names like: Meganes, SuperCube... you know...

I think it's more likely that "Blue Wave" is actually a reference to the "Blue Ocean" strategy that Nintendo have repeatedly stated is the thinking behind the Revolution.

Calling it "Blue Wave" would make it sound like aftershave.

ZeldaFreak

Well explain why they would put a blue light in the revolution, and why the controller is meant to be waved about.

3. Nintendo is following the “Blue Ocean” strategy and they released a wireless controller for the Gamecube called “Wavebird”.

4. Nintendo released a rumble pak for the N64 therefore it may be called the Nintendo Rumble Wave.

How I would love if Nintendo just kept the name 'Nintendo Revolution'. It's a pretty simple name ("Revolution") and it makes a point. Some people think that it would be too cocky of them to keep the name but they are making a point that there needs to be a revolution in gaming, they believe (as do I) that they are bringing this revolution to gaming so why not keep the name - I think it's very fitting.

And another reason why they (imo) should keep the name... What if the new name is totally naff??? "Starcube" anyone? :shakehead (I know it wasn't the final name, but if NOA didn't step in, it would have been).

They have been doing nearly everything right so far (wrt the Revo); price, innovation, looks (of the console), timed release of info, potential media uber-avalaunch(sp?) at E3 etc etc - they don't need/want a sh1te name to tarnish their quest for gaming domination.

Please Nintendo, don't change the name for the worse?!?!

I read somewhere that "Nintendo Bluewave" was an option. Given the fact that the console does emit a blue light, and you will be waving your arms to control, it's not such a bad idea. However, the smartest move in my book would be to include "5" in the name, the revolution being the fifth console and all. That way "Playstation 3" and "Xbox 360" are lagging two points behind in marketing-numerical-psychology, if there is such a thing. Xbox waited cunningly for Playstation to be the first to name their console with "3", so they wouldn't make the mistake of calling their console "Xbox 2", so it became also a "3" of some sort.

And what other reason for a blue-ish discdrive than pure product-recognition. "hi ya Norm, bought meself a console today, you know, the one with the blue light and all". And with the gamecube being a cube, the DS having dual screens, it wouldn't be the most alienating thing for a blue-light emitting console to have "blue" in its name.

What are you saying Mulder?
