I have only played the ones on the NES and the N64 but im looking forward to this due to the great reviews its been getting. I always wanted to pick the GBA ones up but they are pretty hard to find so I will get this as soon as it comes out.
Castlevania 64 was one of my most memorable gameplay experiences :) By the looks of it, this will be a great game, and a good challenge like past castlevanias

Sounds good. I'm quite looking forward to this. I've never played Castlevania before but the DS version has my attention.
My first GBA game was Castlevania: Circle of the Moon and as we all know the GBA's screen was really dark to play on but I still managed to completed the whole game and collect all the cards and guess what, I totally loved it. I didn't play the other 2 castlevania games because I couldn't find them but heck, I preordered this game over a month ago and I so can't wait until I get it lol :D

The Castlevania series, in it's 2D guises at least, has always had a cult appeal and has garnered very positive reviews. NOM seemed to like this one in their review last month. I never really had any affection for the series, myself, but I might give this one a shot for the heck of it.

Same with me. The great reviews it's been getting have made me think about getting it quite a bit (though it's not top of my list). The GBA ones were sort of released without anyone noticing.

Now I eagerly await the arrival of my copy of Castlevania. Heres hoping Gameplay give me it early :).

And have you got any initial impressions at all?
I plan to pick this up on Friday, along with Advance Wars DS, Burnout Revenge and maybe Fahrenheit................although if money's tight, then Fahrenheit will have to wait another month.
What!?!?!?! Is this already available in europe? I just picked up meteos yesterday.. Seems I have to make another trip to the store soon.
I just checked, It is released the end of next week here in finland :O :O
Too close a release to meteos I think.. But I guess I cant complain as I've been seriously waiting for this :D

My first try at a Castlevania game was back when i first got the GBA. I found the game too dark and without backlit screens it was impossible and annoying.

It was possible.. Under a spot light.. My neck was sore for a long time after completing the game ;)

Yes, I bought it. Haven't played a Castlevania game before, but I like this one. I had no problems getting into the story. Not sure if the game deserves such crazy high scores, but maybe the rest of the game will convince me.
A review of this game should be on Revolution-Europe next week.

The first time I actually played a Castlevania game was about 6 months ago on the GBA, I think it was Aria of Sorrow. Anyways, It was one of the sweetest game ive played on GBA, i could't believe I had been avoiding the series since NES.
Dawn of Sorrow is a definent buy for me.

Best Castlevania game I've played so far... (only played the once on Nintendo consoles)
I'm gonna pick this up on Friday. Looks very good. I have played Castlevania on the GBA and SNES. They are very tough games (I haven't completed any of them) but they are enjoyable. I want a game to play for the long, long trip down to Portsmouth from Newcastle on Saturday so this game should do nicely! I'm probably gonna but Yoshi's Touch & Go as well.
BTW NGC Magazine gave it 4/5 (2/5 for Dual Screen & 4/5 for Touch Screen).

I've quite a few of the "old" style Castlevania games (for my NES and SNES, I also have Castlevania 64), and I've completed all of them except the 64 version, only came to the last boss. I have only dabbled a bit with the "new" style 2D Castlevania games, but I find them interesting, and I'll probably get this one.

Man this game looks awesome even 1-up said that this is was the best Castlevania ever and probably the best DS game. Of course that's kind of subjective, but still, good to hear. The touch screen thing is cool, but not the main focus for me, on the other hand the second screen with a map and stuff is very useful for this kind of game.

Also thinking of getting Fifa tomorrow (now I NEVER thought Id say that!!!).

I've just picked this up, aswell as Advance Wars.
Only played upto the first boss (15mins in), but so far seems quality. I died nearly straight away once I started fighting the boss, so it seems to be quite a challenging game.
The story was well introduced near the beginning, although not everything has been revealed from the start, so it looks like it will develop throughout with quite a few NPC's.
The thing that stood out the most was how good the sound was. Sound effects are top notch, and that's accompanied by an outstanding soundtrack...........although Castlevania games are usually renowned for their sound quality (gba versions are brilliant for sound).
Going to get back to playing it now, and hopefully I can tear myself away from it later to put some time into Advance Wars DS.
So yeah, I recommend picking it up. And that "Best of E3" award on the front kind of does it justice so far.

Oh! That's a surprise, I didn't realise it was out in the UK already!! Is it a long/good game? I want a new game :)
Does it make good use of the duel/touch screen? I hope it doesn't use the microphone. I need something to play on the train to work.
Thanks!
Just wondering - for those who ordered this game from gameplay.co.uk have you recieved your order yet because I haven't? This isn't really a bad thing considering I got Advance Wars: Dual Strike yesterday so I can keep playing that without any distractions but still, its the idea that I don't have it thats bugging me. :(

Normally they're very good with delivery times but I did have to wait until the Monday once for a game, think it was Paper Mario. :hmm: You'll probably get it tomorrow, if you don't have it by Tuesday then you can start worrying.
I won't be getting Castlevania just yet as Advance Wars is more than enough at the moment. :heh:

Okay I picked this up today, and posted these impressions on another site, thought ppl on here might like a read too.
Have eagerly picked this up today seein as it's been quite a while since my last castlevania fix, sadly only gamestation were stocking it and they only had 2 copies (so theres currently 1 left in coventry city centre tongue.gif). Have only played 25 mins of it so far and am already 8.3% through it, but have to say it's possibly the best 2D castlevania game yet. Everything so far is right with it and tbh I can't really fault it so far.
Graphics: Gorgeous, 60fps, and for the first time in a handheld one, the animation is damn fine. Have to say there are some damn fine little effects to it too such as when u stand on a van the suspension lowers on the side ur stood on and the snow drops off it onto the floor.
Audio: Gorgeous again, some really lovely tunes in it which nod back to the earlier castlevania games such as symphony of the night, really epic is the only way I can think to put it.
Gameplay, tradition Sympohony of the Night onwards gameplay, unlock new abilities, open up new areas explore etc etc etc. If you like it then you'll love this, if not then it's probably still a game thats not for you. The Touch screen is used, but so far it's not been anything to write home about, just tacked on elements for casting seal spells to finish bosses.
Oh yeah, 1 key thing to say, for the first time I can think of in a castlevania game, the opening area is completely different to the norm, ur actually in a "lost village" that has nice buildings, vehicles, and shops etc. So I guess it's Castlevania, but it actually feels fresh instead of the normal "outside draculas castle, enter, etc".
Obviously I've got alot more to do and see, but if any1 was thinking of picking this up I'd highly recommend it, possibly the best DS game yet for me and definately best game I've played in a while fullstop.
Well i had to cancel my Gameplay order, then i decided to buy it from Gamestation, what a rip-off, i had to pay £32.99 for it! thought DS games were £29.99????!!!!!!!
Still it seems a very good game so far, i'm not like 'wow' but the Gameboy Micro has diverted my attention for today. Still i do like the game so thats the main thing i suppose!
:D

Haha, I think I did something earlier at work then that I really shouldn't of done.
I was getting staff discount, and a colleague put the game through the till and it didn't automatically scan with a price. So he asked me what price DS games were, so the answer from me was of course "it's def £29.99."
So I got it for a nice price of £22.50.............
I've now got up to the second boss, and it towers well above my character. Throughout the battle it always seemed like I was on the brink of death, as the battle was just so intense, but still at an easy level so a victory was always on the cards...........so to speak.
I'm really enjoying it so far..............and my time this afternoon/evening has been split between this and Advance Wars DS. On Advance Wars i'm up to Mission 7 at the mo, and I'm looking forward to playing some more of that later tonight.
Does it make good use of the duel/touch screen? I hope it doesn't use the microphone. I need something to play on the train to work.
For me so far, the touchscreen has only been used for making seals (bosses), and smashing ice blocks (like in the videos that did the rounds awhile ago) and it doesn't look like the microphone will play a part in this game at all.
As for playing this game on the train.............I don't think it's suited for that personally, and I would recommend picking up Advance Wars, as it's more suited for pick up & play sort of gameplay. Advance Wars uses the styli throughout, so you're not tied down to twitch button pressing like Castlevania.
I hope that kind of helps your decision in what your going to do.

Just played about 2 hours of the game. So far I'm totally loving it. I've never been a big fan of the "Metroid Styling" since Symphony since Metroid does it far better, however I'm getting really sucked in. Do I like it more than Rondo of Blood or Super Castlevania 4? Not sure just yet but it could be close. It is way better than the GBA games and Symphony at this point.

Got it on Friday from Game. I couldn't find it in the other two games shops in the Metro Centre so I had to settle for Game.
So far I have enjoyed what I've played. It is difficult though. I'm stuck on a boss who is massive (He destroys the ice blcoks with a beam). His fist keeps hitting me all the time!

Woah! This has a great score. I might get it, it looks qquite cool, I have only owned one castlevania and that was on the snes but that was fun when i were little. Lol, cant wait to play this!
Played Castlvania for a long time there. I earlier thought that the bosses were hard but I've had no real trouble with any of the other bosses so far. I've just beat the puppet boss who I found easy. Now I've just got to figure out where I need to go next. It's a great game. Makes me want to play the other Castlevania's (but I've only got 1 on the GBA and NES).
I've been on for 2hrs 40mins (according to the games clock anyway) level 23, 35.8% done. It's a quality game.

If your having trouble with the bosses, the best tactic is to memorise their attack patterns, because each boss will have about 3 or 4 different attacks.

After you get the duoble jump, I just went aruond for a bit, been collecting cash, but a little progress is in the Garden, theres a Part where you double jump up, can't remember where abouts but it has 2 of those blue birds flying about and theres a dropping skull platform to jump on, theres also a area where the dancing ghosts are, go right to the bottom and there is an area what looks like a Dnugeon, blue zombies are thre and a pig that shoots fire.
Hope I made sense for you o0
But Agreeing with others this a Fantastic game, my first castlevnia, well played the snes one once or twice but nothing like his one. I'm about level 28ish, never ealised how cool the doppleagersoul is, one set i have my big axe, the other set a handgun very nice combo.

I never put any thought into creating a 2nd set of equipment, but the way you say it there, kind of makes me think of a 2D Devil May Cry (handguns n all).
At the moment I haven't got the cash for the handguns, but I'll go on an evil wrecking spree and in no time I should have the cash for them.
And also, the dancing ghosts are really quite eerie!

Easy way to get money at the start, Buy Brass Knuckles off of that guy, then go to the strip near the castle drawbridge that has zombies and the 2 Wargs and axe knights, collect as many zombie souls as you can an go to the girl and fuse the zombie souls with brass knucklse to create a new weapon (forgot the name) and sell them to the guy you get 3k a pop
The Dancing ghosts are Pretty eerie as well, butthose Crossweeds freak me out (the plants with the baby heads) o0;
Ha, I just knew the next boss was gonna be hard! I'm fighting the one at the top of the tower and he is tricky. I know his attack patterns but some are vary hard to dodge (especially the jumping attack). I must have tried about 8 times in a row but couldn't kill the bastard!

At first glance it seems like the typical GBA setup but there is a lot of depth and 2D/3D visuals, which are quite impressive once you look at them in detail. They're very easy to dismiss at first.

LukeLee
04-10-2005, 01:44 AM
well i've completed it for this first time, the first ending was LAME, i shall go for the second ending and such.
Anyway my brief view of the game for anyone who hasnt got it yet. It is quite a fun game, the gameplay is fun, collecting your foes abilities then making your own fighting system is cool. The graphics are extremely good for a 2D platformer.
The downpoints would be that you can fight, achieve so much then die before reaching a savepoint and lose all your achievements. Nothing in the game is structured, you often have no idea where you are going, you kill one boss then end up going to the other side of the castle to get to the next previously unreachable area - so you really have to get used to your map (thank god for the teleporters).
Overall i dont know if i'd buy it again if i had known what i had. Don't get me wrong, it is a fun experience while it lasts, but i dont feel it'll have any replay value for me. £30 seems like alot to me for a game i wont be using for long, even if its good for the short time i do play it.

I killed some random dark lord wanabee, had no health. Thought i'd wander around to another save point. Some random bat guy kills me as soon as I walk into the room. The DS ended up clashing loudly onto the chair.
It is just incredible how little copies came to finland. It seems initially only one(1) store got them, and only a few. Now im waiting for that same store to get more and have reserved my copy as most other places dont even know it exists. This is just not good..

I'd be willing to buy the game off someone!!
Or swap for Another Code!
You can buy my copy.
I have a feeling you are not located at Tampere, Finland.

I know the feeling.
I hate them flying head things that freeze you when they touch you. So annoying when you're trying to jump from one moving platform to another and they're flying all over the screen.

Ok I went for the final ending and Soma was used as a mop. The abyss is one messed up place.

IGN just gave it a 9.3, DS' highest rated game on the site. Wasn't expecting it to be that high, although all of the previous Castlevania Gameboy games scored highly. I'm going to have to think about getting this now... Is the multiplayer fun? It sounds simple but quite fun too.

No way how did you beat that dimitri guy in demon form?
How do you get better endings? The ending I got was shit. There are still areas I can't reach and I don't know how to get there

If you got the ending after you killed The Fire guy, what you need to do is get the Soul Called Paranoia, you need 3 other souls though to get past the 3 columns, Once you get the Paranoia soul go back to the fire guy and Parnoia will let you jump into the mirror and defeat the demon thats posesed him. (and you need the Bat Companion to get to Paranoia, theres a spiked way that you fly through with the bat in the clock towere area)
Ah, so the blocks that are blocking my way can only be destroyed if I collect the relevent souls? So this means I need to kill the enimes on the blocks over and over again until they give me their soul? Is that right?

Thats right ^^;; If you've got the suol Eater then it'll be easy if not, try have ghost Dancer soul active and lucky 777 equpied thats if you have them, i've heard more luck gives a better chance to get them

I've also just finished that Puppet boss, and now I'm fighting this snake like fish thing in the water.
This snake fish thing was located towards the South East if I remember correctly, although I may go back so I can take another route, as I can see myself having to go through aload of water ruins or something after this boss.

That water boss is great, having come out of a huge water area i'm now trying to find the next place to go.
I can't believe how fun this game is, its just a shame its rather short.

I have finally finished the game. 100% of the map complete also. I said that I would buy nintendogs if I finished it while on the bus but I just didn't make it. Ah well I'll get it tomorrow. It would be a good idea to try and upgrade the axe to a 'death scythe' it really helps you speed through the game. Also try and get the black panther soul so you can speed through the areas.

Go to the Top of the tower where you battled him, there shuold be a key somewhere at the top that opens the Room with the blue door thingy.
Dunno if it's just a backgruond thing or like the yeti you can get her, but on one of the backgrounds theres a witch flying across (Can't remember exactly where it is, one of the clock tower areas) Is there a way to get her? like with the mothman and yeti? - Found it out, got to use mandaragon to hit him get the flying humanoid suol

Zephyer? He can be a tad annoying, what I did was use the beam atack from a distance when he came forme double jumped out of the way, when I was out of MP let loose with my Silver Gun until I had MP again and beamed him.

Silver gun? :| I'm using the battle axe. Slow... but effective ;)

I used the Axe before I bought the Handgun, was a nice weapon to use, then once I started using the gun I couldn't stop, I left the Axe in the back, have a Masume in it's place now but I never use it >> Just that you can hit from a distance and dop some Pretty good damage as well is a nice bonus

To ask one simple question in a appropriate place (this topic), is easier than reading 5 pages of discussion.
Just beat Paranoia. Now on to Dario again...
There are still other areas that I need to reach but I am unsure how to get to them.
