Should be good, but the singles will be played to death again. The overplaying of the singles has put me off them, which is a shame because I used to like them quite abit.

Great band, i liked the old Zepher Song.
the title on album is blatently word art though!

That album is hideous, we've moved on a bit since the 70s you know. Photoshop does wonders now.

Im not hyped for this album, I OD'ed on the Chilis a while ago. Although I heard an interview with Flea saying "If you don't like this album you don't like the Chilis". Bit harsh.

Dan Dare

sounds nicely conservative.

meh, I have little patience for these guys. just not my thing...

arab_freak

I couldn't care less about the CD cover. It's not like you're going to take it with you whereever you go. It's going to be tucked away on a shelf, and you would've probably ripped them and put them on your PC/mp3 player.

Awful album cover. I used to be into the Peppers, but I think my tastes have developed and moved on since then. I'll occasionally give Blood Sugar Sex Magik a listen, which is still a classic, but Californication and By the Way have fallen out of my favour. Lyrically they're very very weak, and while Frusciante and Flea are consistantly excellent, it's hard to ignore the lyrical aspect. Kiedis' style worked well when they were a funk band, but on By the Way particularly it just seemed too random, shallow and nonsensical. I'll probably still give it a listen, but I don't expect much. I hope it'll be such a return to their roots that it'll turn all their new fans off, but I doubt it.

Sexual Chocolate

Isn't the album cover meant to be a bit tongue in cheek, a bit 70's, a bit old skool. maybe relating to songs on the album are gonna be old skool.

Jav_NE
09-03-2006, 03:42 PM
I like many have said have taken a disliking to them after over exposure to them and to be honest now i just think, God get out of my face, which is a shame because they're talented guys and have some great recent songs like the Zepher song and Cant Stop.. but if i hear them one more time im likely to kick the stereo in, or TV, or whatever the hell is playing it!

Its gone too far now, even with new material i think i'll always just be sick of their faces. Maybe my taste has progressed also, they went a bit softie and that annoyed me a bit.

YEs oh yes! I've been waiting for this since i heard there would be a new album near the end of last year.
I don't care about the album art, yes it sucks, but is that a reflection on the music? No, music and drawings are 2 different things. I've loved all the chillis' work and will be picking this up asap

I've known about the album for a while but the cover is new to me. However, the artwork looks kinda rubbish. I get the tounge-in-cheeck of it though.

Oh, and it'll probably be out Monday 8th May over here in the UK. After all, albums are normally released on a Monday here (unless you order it off play.com then you'll probably get it early.)

Bootleg recordings of the concert where they played them exclusively. Lol, I heard Flea say "If you're smart you'll record the next song and bootleg it on the internet, so you can make some fucking money".

There's no such thing as good or bad years of music, it all depends on what you listen to. Just because some bands which people frown upon return, that doesn't mean you HAVE to hear them. Just listen to what you like.:geek:

I've decided to write lyrics for those of you unfortunate enough not to hear them.

Kill For Your Country:

Anthony: Fuck George Bush
*crowd cheers, starts cheering "fuck GB! fuck GB!" etc

Anthony: This is a love song for the world. It's a little bit of a hate song for our goverment, but it's really a love song for the world. A little love little hate.

Oh my
Shot my heart, yeah
[indistinguishable]

Noone is quite
so different
Even could
understood
memory

The king and queen were sleeping
[indistinguishable]
Ecstasy
Sympathy

Sing with me....

Unleash the quantam bay
thought about it and i wanna say
I will miss this
land and it's promise

[indistinguishable]
Biggiewiggie is it really true?
When they say you should
Kill for your country

Kill for your country!

I gots me kids to feed
I'm going and I need the speed
Fly away from this
land and it's promise

[indistinguishable]
[indistinguishable] that I wish I could
Time to leave and go
kill for my country

Kill for my country!

<Bridge>

Put 'em down and hold yo' fire!
[indistingushable]
Put 'em, now hold yo' fire!

Say I'm [indistinguishable] for quick relief!

[indistinguishable] But Bubba shot 'em [indistinguishable]

[indistinguishable][indistinguishable][indistinguishable]

Hold 'em down, hold 'em down!
Hold yo' fire! Hold yo fire!
Hold 'em down, hold 'em down!
Hold yo' fire! Hold yo fire!

This is my message to you!
This is a table for two!

Hold 'em down, hold 'em down!
Hold yo' fire! Hold yo fire!
Hold 'em down, hold 'em down!
Hold yo' fire! Hold yo fire!

[indistinguishable][indistinguishable] Hello!
Stand up 'coz you stand as foe!!! [whoaaaaaa, whoa]

This song is probably talking about rednecks going to war.

Havana Affair:

PT-boat on her way to Havana
I used to make a livin' man, pickin' a banana
Now I'm a guide for the CIA
Hooray
For the USA

Baby baby make me loco
Baby baby make mambo

Sent to spy on a Cubian talent show
First stop: Havana go go!
I used to make a livin' man, pickin' a banana
Hooray
Oh, havana!

Baby baby make me loco
Baby baby make mambo
Oooh, oooooh.
Ooooh, oooh.

PT-boat on her way to Havana
I used to make a livin' man, pickin' a banana
Now I'm a guide for the CIA
Hooray
For the USA

Baby baby make me loco
Baby baby make mambo
Oooh, oooooh.
Ooooh, oooh.

Sent to spy on a Cubian talent show

I used to make a livin' man, pickin' a banana
Hooray
Oh, havana!

Baby baby make me loco
Baby baby make mambo
Oooh, oooooh.
Ooooh, oooh.

They're singing a song for The Ramones. :indeed:

From what Ive heard of Dani California it sounds good. Im a huge chilis fan, love mostly their older stuff. I just hope its not as over produced as By The way and has more old skool tracks on it. I thought Fortune Faded was a bit wank as was leverage of space etc.

Album art sucks but hopefully the music will be funkin good

It's a Chili's album, so it won't be bad bad. I saw them in Hyde Park, and they were amazing. Their recent stuff has been okay. On By The Way, all the best songs were ones that weren't released as singles, Venice Queen was awesome. Personally I thought Fortune Faded and Leverage of Space were relatively good songs. Save The Population were pretty good too. I just hope they get back to being a bit more funky, which was always what they were best at.

Out of the two songs off the greatest hits I thought Save The Population was far better. Fortune Faded had a good intro then just was a bit ordinary. And to be honest it was a greatest hits album but missed every song off their first four records except higher ground, I know theres What Hits?! but they could have put a few on.

I agree with GD but I think SOAD actually have some political opinions and stuff, and didn't make political music to seem cool but rather they were interested. The impression I get from their interviews anyway. Look at the video for "Boom", its a genuine anti-war video. The video for "American Idiot" is them getting covered in green goo.

Maybe I just really dislike Green Day.

If hardcore equates to praising everything the band puts out, then no. I'm with Noodleman, I preferred them when they were a funk rock band.

From Flea's comments prior to its release, I was expecting a funk record. What we've got instead is the sound of a band struggling for direction. While on one hand, they've attempted to return to their roots by funking things up a little, it's totally counter-balanced by their insistance to 'rock out', and the result is a record every bit as dull as its cover. Frusciante needs to lay off his damn distortion pedals for awhile.

My "review" of the album:

Awesome songs:
Charlie
Stadium Arcadium
She's Only 18
Slow Cheetah (I love the ending)
Torture Me
Wet Sand
Hey
Ready Made
Especially In Michigan
Animal Bar

Good songs:
Dani California
Snow (Hey Oh)
Hump De Bump
Strip My Mind
C'mon Girl
Desecration Smile
Tell Me Baby
21st Century
If
Made You Feel Better
So Much I
We Believe

Mediocre Songs:
Hard To Concentrate
She Looks To Me
Storm In A Teacup
Death Of A Martian
Warlocks
Turn It Again

A few "funk" elements are sprinkled in a few songs, but that's about it. They also removed what I believe was the best song in the entire album: Kill For Your Country

You can go listen to it on Vh1.com for now.

Its alot of the different styles mixed together, Theres the funk from the old and "by the way" calmness.... ive aquired most of the songs and theres nothing really to shout about, not very outstandingly amazing but good either way.

It's not bad overall. They should have just released a 1CD with all the good and half decent tracks instead.

It certainly has some great songs on it, although I think they probably could have taken the best songs from both CDs and make a single CD albumn. However the other songs are still okay, it just gets a bit long if you listen to it in one sitting.

agree with you guys, they should of released all the good songs, into one album, making it one hell of a fan-fucking-tastic album.

But I enjoy it. and it wasnt exactly more expensive coz it was on 2 discs.

Yeah, I'm a bit dissapointed with how they arranged the songs. It's nothing like By The Way, Venice Queen ruled.

Snow was really good, but I'm bored of it already. I've listened to it twice, Dani California now sucks, very boring song. I was really looking forward to this album as well.

But but Surrealist you have the (shudder) Editors in your sig! So surely this album beats them down? I jest Surrealist I love you really!

I am however really enjoying the album I am finding it easier to listen to if not filled with as many outstounding moments as the previous albums. Can't wait to see them live! Will post fave songs a bit later.

At first I wasn't sure about the album. It seemed over-long and many of the tracks sounded the same. But after sitting listening to it for hours on the train it has definitely improved and now I really enjoy it. Great summer music and worth sticking with.

I found this too Space. When I first listened to it I was expecting a follow up to by the way. But then as I accpeted it for something different it really grew on me.

If their latest single is anything to go on, this can't be good!

I'm still not sure. It has some great songs on it (I'm really liking the first CD alot now), but I'm not sure how it wil hold up over time. I listened to Fanz Ferdinand's second album twice everyday for about two weeks (all the commuting) and I still like listeing to it. Sometimes Stadium Arcadium is a little preictable, but it's still a very enjoyable listen. Songs are definitly catchy, been humming Strip My Mind all day. Perhaps it's just me overloading on Chili Peppers ,it is a very long album. Only time will tell I suppose.
