I love the look of this game. The bonus stages are much like the ones I loved in Sonic 2, the videoes are looking good, with fast Sonic gameplay. The 2D graphics are excellent. I cannot wait for this game. I just thought the game deserved a thread. November is near.

Yeah does look good. Glad it's gone back to it's 2D roots with some 3D elements making up some boss stages. So many good DS games coming out in the winter months to see me through those cold nights

I’m just curious as to how the touch screen will be used for control (if at all).

Buy both. Those two games were the reason why I bought my DS. I cannot wait tom play this game. 2 player with Blaze and Sonic must be awesome, as long as the framerate is steady.

I really wanted to play a Sonic game after seeing Sonic Rush so I went out and bought Sonic Advance. When I played it I remembered that I never really liked the Sonic games in the first place so I have now been put off. Which is a shame as it looks good.

Yeah this stage looks great, as does the whole game; i love the style and speed!

How will the touch screen be used?;

I'm guessing in that bonus stage Sonic will run continuosly by himself and you will drag the stulus across the screen to move him from left to right in the half pipe and through the gaps.
I'd also imagine bonus stages where you have to make Sonic run by rubbing the touch screen (like in the E3 demo).

However, i think this game is more about utilising/using the 2 screens to create some huge, flowing, visually impressive level designs!

Man this is looking fantastic, I hope it's big because Sonic games tend to be kind of small. Sonic Team, make me love you again.

If you look at the screens closely, it seems like Sonic is searching for the chaos emeralds, and Blaze is searching for the Sol emeralds. (Look at the shape, it's different, the 7 shapes...)

I love the look of this game.

I think this thread should be stickied instead of Metroid, since according to alot of sources, this is gonna be one of the best games on the DS so far and the realese it a month away.

I think this thread should be stickied instead of Metroid I agree.

It's nice to read the last comments in Gamespots preview (although the whole preview sounds positive.)

Based on what we played so far, we feel safe in saying that its doubtful that Sonic Rush is going to disappoint. The game makes good use of the DS hardware, and most excellent use of Sonic himself. The gameplay feels good, and the presentation has a winning charm that's hard to deny. Though the DS is going to have a fall lineup full of many highlights, we expect Sonic Rush to stand out as one to look for when it ships for the system this November. Look for our full review in the coming weeks.

I absolutely agree with you view. For my money, the best 3D platformer Sonic team have made to date is Billy Hatcher... a near-classic.

I've been impressed with this game's speed since I first clapped eyes on it, but unlike the GBA versions, it also looks like you can see where you're going with this version. The GBA versions looked phenomenal, but I always felt like at full speed, I was just totally winging it :P

I see this game as real vindication of Nintendo's 'gameplay over tech' approach with the DS when compared to the PSP. There's some 3D, where it's necessary, but as the game works best in 2D, why not do the most detailed, speedy 2D game you can do? In addition, what's the betting that Sonic team have been able to put this together way faster and way cheaper than any 3D sonic game? That means they will have spent less (more profit for the developer/publisher) and will have been able to spend longer testing and refining gameplay, which is better for the consumer.

If you ask around the industry right now, or read developers comments online and in EDGE, there's concern that developing PSP games is too expensive and complex for handheld gaming. With it's simpler development style, the DS is reaping the rewards in the form of an increasingly diverse and rich gaming line up, with game's like Sonic Rush providing all the evidence of that.

Cant wait for sonic rush, I was appalled with the gba sonic games being a hardcore 2d sonic fan of the 16bit generation, but sonic rush does seem to look a little more promising.

May I ask why people feel restricted to doing 3d games on the psp? Ie would it still be more expensive to produce a 2d sonic game on the psp than on the ds?

I think there is a market for a 2d sonic game on the psp, and quite frankly I drool at the prospect lol

Hmmmm... i still don't think Sonic E3 2004 was real. I mean, sure people were playing it. But the graphics were pretty damn good. Best thing i've seen on the DS i think so far. Just to compare:

Yeah, I´ve wondered that too... imo, it looked like at E3 04 DS still had texture filtering.

But anyway, this game looks awesome so far. Too bad November will be such a busy month for DS.

It probably was a real 3D demo on the DS but, because of it's limited scope, they could get away with a few more polys on their sonic model. In the long run, to make the 3D fit with the 2D game, they probably altered the graphical style.

May I ask why people feel restricted to doing 3d games on the psp? Ie would it still be more expensive to produce a 2d sonic game on the psp than on the ds?

Yeah, that's a difficult one. I agree with you - I'd prefer a 2D sonic title on my PSP.

The thing is, the PSP is being sold as a powerful, 3D slick machine. Sony tell people this in their marketting, and are trying to sell the powerful 3D, as it's the main advantage the console has over its rivals. Whilst I don't think that Sony would stop a solid 2D game from going through their quality checks, most publishers (SEGA are in a unique position) would probably feel that making a 2D game for PSP and charging full whack for it wouldn't sell... average joe punter expects to see 3D graphics on the back of the box.

There wouldn't be much more cost involved... the DS development tools are more geared around 2D sprite based development than the PSP, but it wouldn't take a talented developer long at all to set up a 2D game on it (ie there isn't a significantly larger cost).

It just boils down to publishers perceptions on what games players want. Whilst Sonic might be a unique case, most 2D games (even quality games with 3D graphics, like Viewtiful Joe) either don't sell, or at very best are a hard sell for the publisher. Because Sony have positioned the PSP as a portable console that's as powerful as home consoles, it's set the expectations that the games on it should be as graphically advanced as home consoles. At the moment, that's making people a bit scared of working on it, because it costs a lot to make games for it.

Ultimately you'll get awesome stuff on the PSP, especially now developers are wrapping their heads around WiFi ideas. However, it's much less risky, and generally quicker, simpler and more rewarding, to make a DS game at present, even if your hardware options are more limited.
