From IGN.
Metroid Dread is indeed the real deal, though Nintendo may have jumped the gun in letting people in on its development. It showed up in early E3 documents, but since it wasn't going to show, it was quickly dismissed and forgotten at the Expo. Expect more to show up about the game next year.

Well that's nice to hear. I know it was rumored a while back, but then it seemed as if the rumors were false (for a long time). It's nice to be getting a new 2D Metroid game as well as a new 3D game. :D

Yeah good to finally get another 2D game (I also prefer the 2D to 3D ones) and without "Prime" in the name.

I must admit that although Super Metroid and the GBA's Metroid Zero Mission are two of my favourite games in the history of ever, I really can't stand the Prime series. I don't think Metroid *works* in 3D. I mean, yeah, it's a polished and well designed game, but it's not really Metroid... but I don't like First Person Shooters/Games full stop.
Metroid Dread is far more interesting to me than any number of online 3D Metroid games.

I think the 2D Metroids and the 3D Metroid are both very different games. Each of them has things the other one doesn't, and I like them both for different reasons. That said, I loved Fusion, and another 2D Metroid can only be a good thing :D

So would I!
I haven't played the game and it's supposed to be fantastic, so an updated version would be great!

Well you wouldn't need an updated version as you'll just be able to download when the revolution comes laong anyway, and hten they can spend their time making a proper 2-D sequel!
Would be great to have another 2D Metroid game. Fusion and Zero Mission on GBA are excellent games but a little bit short. Super Metroid is brilliant but I think Metroid Prime is the best in the series *gasp*.

I'm gonna download Super Metroid ASAP if they put it in the Rev downloads...I love Fusion & Zero Mission.
I like the 3D ones a lot, it's just it's easier to get stuck and slightly irritating sometimes, but feels great exploring.
Metroid Dread is the next 2D Metroid game & is for the DS.

Should be good, Fusion and Zero Mission were great (though Zero Mission felt a little short). Wonder how they'll use the dual screen, I'd be happy if they just left the controls how they were, and used the bottom screen for all the stuff you normally get in the pause screen.
Even though from what I've heard recently Hunters seems to be becoming more like a game in the "Prime" series rather than just a FPS, I'm looking forward to Dread more.
