I think it's best if we keep it all here, guys. :P

I bought the series 1 boxset off amazon.co.uk for a measly £18. I'm now about half way through watching it, and am completely addicted. I've got my brother hooked on it, as well.

I actually forgot something in my original list of occurances of Tony getting shafted.

He gets shot in the damn neck in Series 3.

I also bought Season 1 off Amazon. Only got 7 or episodes left, excellent show. Considering buying Season 2 but people say its not as good and gets a bit OTT and ridiculous. Bauer for president.

I'm really tempted to get 2 as well now. :hmm:

They're only £18 each on Play.com btw.

I loved all the series so far, I'm on episode 20 of season 4. I thought series 4 was the only one that started a little bit slowly, but it did take a turn for the awesome when Tony appeared in episode 12ish. All the old crew are back now, we're only needing Chase, Kim and Adam back now :)

Season 2 changes the format of 24 somewhat, in Season 1 the show is mainly focused on Jack's personal struggles to save his family as well as protect the Senator.. whereas in Season 2 (and 3, 4 and 5 in fact) the threat is increased to something that will usually kill millions of people.

That doesn't mean it's any less good, though.

S2 also includes my favourite moment in 24 ever, so like Dan said, buy it sucker.

I really enjoyed season one, it felt so fresh and original but I was a bit annoyed by all the strange coincidences; the terrorists and Bauer's family kidnapped and many other things.
Season 2 annoyed me, I felt there were more coincidences and many things were predictable what was the reason not to watch Season 3.
Then I read good critics about Season 4 and have decided to watch it (it took a bit until it was aired here) and currently there are about 10 hours left. I'm loving this Season for me it's the best I have seen so far and there aren't these strange coincidences and saved in the very last moment things, it feels much more realistic.

The whole point of series one is that there are no coincidences about it.....

oh and a question for the jack fans: when has he used anything other than pistols or a sniper rifle to kill somebody? oh, and knives.

If that was me, what i'd do is tape season 5, but watch season 2-4. I think it makes sense to watch things in order, really.

Technically he only kills a dog with it, but whatever. He's also broken a neck before and he kills a guy with surgical scissors in Series 5.

As for Colin, I strongly suggest watching each series in order. The first episode of series 5 is pretty major when it comes to the overall plot of the show and shifting the cast around.

My friend lent me the first two seasons a few months ago after going on about how great it is. Watched two episodes and never got round to it. Im sure its great, but before I carry on watching it I've gotta rewatch Veronica Mars, Firefly (although my Serenity DVD shipped today so doubt I'll do it in time), Arrested Development Season Two, The 4400 and then 24.

I cant relax too well, normally thinking "how long until this ends then I can do something else", no matter how much I love what im watching. So 24 is worse because there is a constant clock.

The constant pressures of Miek and Guy made me buy season 1. Its great, gripping TV.

Tomorrow i shall increase the power of Bauer by buying season 2. I hear Tesco's have them for £21 ish so I'll go during a college free. Win.

Also, no one post spoilers :P

I own all the series that have came out on boxset as I buy them release day. I cant wait or the new series to start as it has to be the most gripping thing on tv. In regards for which series was the best I would have to say 4 followed by 2.

I also have the game on pre-order. Is anyone else picking it up?

It's HIGHLY reccomended that you do, the first 2 are linked together really closely, the third has some important stuff you shouldnt see without seeing those aswell.

4 is fairly safe ground i think. has bits from 3 but it kinda stands further apart.

ask Mike or Guy about 5. I'm still trying to find it.

Meik
07-02-2006, 07:54 PM
If you can't be arsed watching all of the series then starting at 4 is your best bet. Most people consider Series 1-3 a trilogy, as they have mostly the same characters and ongoing plot points. Series 4 has a cast of mostly new characters (with a few old ones appearing later on in the season), and even though there is tons of stuff in there that relates to the previous seasons, it's the easiest to get into (apart from 1 of course).

Season 5 is pretty much a continuation of Season 4, therefore watching it first isn't recommended.

I've played the demo and I'll definately be getting the game when it hits these shores. It's about time we scored a 24 thread, so mad props to the forces behind it. Let's try to mark spoilers clearly for anyone alien to the world of CTU LA.

And yes, watch the series in order please. It's so much more enjoyable to see old favourites return after you've been through previous seasons with them. I'll also add that they're far nicer when they're sitting on your shelf than a folder on your hard drive, pirates.

Sooo... the game is out *cough* any one tryed it?

I went to the World Exclusive Preview of it at EIEF in August (where I also played Twilight Princess), they didn't actually let us play the game. Hands were still going through walls and things, but they assured us it would n't be like that in the final version. It looks pretty good though (story wise), it's set between series 2 and 3, it's been written by the script writers of 24. They have voice acting in it by all the main characters. Chris Moyles is in it too, we got to see how they made his body in it :heh:

Loved the forst season , loved the 2nd even more. Got hooked to season three after trying to watch it the second time.

On the fourth season something went wrong... There's no hot women in the show anymore :( In the first three there was Kim, Michelle and even Nina myers is better looking than anyone in the 4th season.
Also something funny that I did notice in season three: Michelle's front seems to have developed since season 2 :) And also in the 4th season it shows that chloe has lost some weight.
Although I have a feeling that Michelle's going to be some episodes of season 4. Don't tell me! I just only saw episode 17-18pm.
Oh damn... now I sound like a complete perv :P.

But all in all it's a great show seeing as 90% of tv shows seems to be some stupid reality tv. I'm
fed up with reality shows...

I would strongly reccommend you to watch the seasons in order, ESPECIALLY with season 5. The first couple of episodes are very "influential" in terms of plot lines and characters and it would be a shame if it were the first season you started with.

Just watched the 7th episode of 24 season 5 from the US....I feel that it aint as good as previous seasons but its still good to watch. BTW, season 2 is probably the best IMO.

I'd say the first was the best just because it was all new and fresh. Then the fourth>third>second. Maybe even the fourth was better than the first, I'm not sure now I think about it. Everything annoying about other the other series (mainly Kim) is taken out for the fourth. I've not watched any of the fifth as I like getting the boxsets and having mammoth viewing sessions so please be good with the spoiler tags in this thread. I don't know how you can wait for a week at the end of an episode, it would kill me.

Tony Almeida gets constantly owned in 24 throughout his appearances each season. Mike and I honestly believe it's some kind of in-joke to reward the fans. I'd go through each of his own moments, but that would be spoiling it for everyone.

I guess for someone with only one facial expression, the distrusting glare, Tony isn't bad. Definately up there with Palmer and Bauer.

Dan Dare

It's about a counter terrorist unit in LA stopping various evil schemes. The main character is called Jack Bauer and a single series takes place over 24 hours, each episode running in realtime over a single hour.

It's all really a bit special- easily the most exciting and involving tv drama out there. you should try and get hold of a copy of season 1.

I honestly think that the lack of Cuthbert was a bonus and made the fourth season better. She was soooo annoying in the previous seasons. Alright she was okay to look at but in the third season she kinda got android-robot-wig hair.

I honestly think that the lack of Cuthbert was a bonus and made the fifth season better. She was soooo annoying in the previous seasons. Alright she was okay to look at but in the thris season she kinda got android-robot-wig hair.I've said it before and i'll say it again, I never thought that a haircut could make Elisha less attractive. After watching season 3, I found out I was wrong.

I'm also glad she wasn't in series 4, I think the worst was in Series 2 when..

the writers created a terrible plot to keep her in the story, which included the awful babysitter storyline, getting her leg caught in a cougar trap, getting stuck in a bomb shelter with a crazy person, being held "hostage" in a convenience store..

I totally agree about the annoying part. The fact that she was always getting into trouble on the same day Jack had a big emergency annoyed me. Sure she is pretty to look at but her character sucked after the first season.

People usually go to the toilets in CTU to use their phones to talk to the terrorists they're working for. I don't think the toilets even work.

[Edit]

Regarding the post made by Jordan referencing the 24 season 5 prequel featuring a mysterious fellow on a motorcycle, I don't think it's Almeida. Whenever Tony does anything he gets screwed over, so if it was him he'd have fallen off the bike or a bird would have shit on him. It wasn't Tony. Tony gets owned, he doesn't mysteriously ride motorcycles.

Why is everyone (Jordan) going on about "catching up" and "downloading loads of episodes"? Watch them at your own pace I say.

I've never watched 24, but I can't help but ask. Have any of them gone to the toilet in the series? Because my parents say they haven't.No, but not all the characters are on all the time so it's assumed they do the boring stuff during those times. I have, however, always harboured a secret desire that Tony will spend an entire episode just having a wank. He'd be there just fapping away under the covers after the advert break "timer" where it shows all the different characters.

And then he'd spray his sauce just before the final seconds of the episode count down.

The episode would be called "3pm-4pm: The one where Tony has a wank".

24 is the series you should buy, not download. Whilst I may be downloading season 5 to see it spoiler-free as it hits in America first, it's a guarentee I'll be the first in line to buy it when it hits retail over here. Who else can say the same?

I don't want to be crap over this, but a little while ago there was a post on this page saying something along the lines of "New episode: Downloading at 50kb/s!" which I deleted. That's the sort of post that I object to. Sure, some of you are watching the fifth season and I know that being UK residents everyone is probably downloading it. I just want to pipe in to agree with Odwin, Foxy and Guy's comments. The fact that certain people have downloaded pretty much every episode without buying a single DVD narks me the hell off. Every season can be bought for less than £20, so I see no reason to be a pirate. Season 5 is the first one which I am downloading, simply because I lack patience. I also have full intentions of buying the DVD on release in August, just like I have with every other one.

Anyway, now that that's out of the way let's concentrate on talk of 24. S5E09 discussion:

Logan is really starting to piss me off, he's a little shitmuffin. I'm not really bothered about the fact that he's helping the terrorists kill the Russian prime minister, or even that his wife is in danger, but that fact that Agent Aaron Pierce is in the car really disturbs me. If he's killed I will not be happy.

Also, Curtis got Bauered.

Just finished Season 1 and the ending was good. I guessed thatNina was the mole at the beginning, but then when Jamie was too, it put me off the track. Nice twist, even if it was a little farfetched that Nina could go 23 episodes being completely on Jack's side and against the Drazens and then go all bad and against Jack in the last ep. I knew about Terri's death because of the season 5 trailer, serves me right for joining so late in the game I suppose.

I think I need more, I'll buy Season 2 soon.

S5E10 thoughts:

Lots of good stuff in this episode. The showdown between Lynn McGill (who I will hereby be referring to as "Samwise") and Audrey/Curtis was great, and i'm glad he's out of the way for now. He'll make a return and mess things around again though, i'm sure of it.

The actual attack on the motorcade was well done, and I shouted "NO" when it looked like Agent Pierce (one of my favourite characters, and one of the handful of characters who was in Season 1) had been killed. Thank god he didn't, and i'm really enjoying how the writers have pushed him into the limelight.

The Bauer storyline was a bit boring this episode, and I saw the threat in the bunker coming a mile off, but at least Henderson's secretary was hot. She could check my "accounts" any day. Also, Henderson's mention of Nina Myers and Mason sent a tingle down my spine.

He repeatedly fires at it with a handgun and manages to hit the fuel supply, which leaks into the air, forcing the helicopter to retreat.
Whether or not that is actually possible with the gun he was using I don't know, i'm no weapons expert.
It didn't seem overly unrealistic. To be honest if you go into any 24 episode expecting pinpoint realism you'll come out disappointed, just take it as an action movie that is more technically-accurate than most.

Episode 11+12

Bloody hell, where do I start?
Kim's back and she's hot again!
Edgar's dead!
It looks like Tony's going to die! :(

Best episode EVER, even better than the "Tell me wher ethe bomb is" episode

Meik

#12 was certainly my favourite episode of the season so far.

They rarely use the "silent timer" and it always hits home when they do.
I never really liked Edgar as a character but the ending definitely got me.

It was cool seeing everyone locking themselves into the one room, they've never done that before.
Tony and Henderson in the same room during the lockdown should be very interesting.

I also agree with Moria, Kim finally has a haircut that doesn't make her look like an android!
That shot of her when she was talking to Chloe, hoo boy.

Also, was Lynn saved and moved into one of the rooms? I don't recall him going anywhere.

Finally, i'm hereby speculating that Kim's new boyfriend is a pedophile. He has that look about him.

Ep 12 again...

We didn't see Lynn, either he moved without us seeing him or he's dead... (hopefully dead).
Its going to be interesting in the next episode, where they're stuck in that room, with no way of getting out...

Wasn't that guy with Kim her pychologist and not her boyfriend?

The following post contains spoilers relative to the 13th episode of 24 season 5.

I agree with you guys, episode 12 was fantastic. I liked Edgar and it was sucky to watch his demise, but Chloe's face iced the cake of sadness.

The episode 13 preview shows Jack somehow escaping that room in what seems to be an attempt to save everyone.

Then we have the announcer saying one of them will make the ultimate sacrifice, finally a shot of Jack cradling someone in his arms calling for help, someone who appears to be male.

Meik

More ep12 stuff and some ep13 speculation:

The guy Kim is with was originally her psychologist and is now her boyfriend,
there's an interview with both of them on fox.com/24.
It's also noted that Barry is twice Kim's age,
some Jack/Barry conflicts will be coming up no doubt.

Also in the preview for next week's episode, Lynn is alive and well.
I assume the holding room he was in is automatically locked and protected.

I'm also hereby speculating that he'll pull a
Mason/Chapelle "redemption death", in which he sacrifices
himself to save everyone. As Guy says, the preview says
that "someone will make the ultimate sacrifice".

Just watched the 12th episode. Not that great, only significant because of what happened at the end

My prediction was right!!! Earlier on in this thread I predicted that Edgar was going to die in the fifth season. And guess what?? He did!! I feel so special right now..its the first time something I predicted came true!! Bow down everyone to my future telling skills...next up....jack to die in 6th season...

Jesus. Episode 13. Do not highlight this if you haven't watched it yet.

How can they kill off Tony? No longer is there going to be any character I can make
fun of for being consistently owned.

I thought the timing of it was a bit wank to be honest, straight after Edgar and Lynn
(who I was right regarding the "redemption death", by the way).
I guess the writers really wanted to shock the audience, because they've never had
3 major deaths in the space of 2 episodes.

Man, Tony's gone. That sucks.

Also, no lovin' from Kim! This season is really turning out to be depressing.
I'm hereby proclaiming it the "Season of Death".
Edit: sorry about the double post by the way.

Why was there no silent clock for Tony?
To see a character who's been on the show from the beginning die so abruptly is a bit rude. He should've died like a hero, not McGill.

R.I.P. Tony :(

R.I.P. Tony :(I thought the exact same thing.

Either they didn't want to use 2 silent clocks back to back, or maybe he doesn't die. Who knows.
I'd prefer the latter, but Tony's bio on the 24 website lists him as "deceased" so blah.
I would've expected him to die a "better" death, but hey, there you go.

Babooo
15-03-2006, 07:52 PM
Has anyone thought that Tony might not die at all??
Come on, its pretty obvious to me. Firstly the lack of the silent clock
is a big hint. Why would they have a silent clock for edgar and
not for one of the biggest and best characters in Tony?? And they didn't actually show Tony die. They just showed him in jack's arms. It didn't show him
actually die did they? So who knows, he could recover.
Thats what I think anyway...

Episode 15....

They've stopped the gas, but nothing else is really left. Wayne Palmer could get interesting, especially from the 30 second preview when he's with Mrs Logan's 'person' (who I've suspected for a while). I'm waiting for James Heller to get involved again, now that Audrey started to get tortured... No mention of Tony. Edgar's replacement is even weirder than Chloe, if thats possible...

Meik

Yeah, dunno how the rest is going to pan out.
Probably something to do Henderson/Wayne/Martha's Aide, whatever. Maybe a new threat.

Regarding episode 15, when Jack was running away from the fire with the 24 theme playing:
I think I came. Twice.

I actually just realised that neither Martha nor Charles were in this episode,
when there were plenty of times they could've been. Wonder why.

Logan always pissed me off. Even when he was a "goodie". He is a shit president and I just don't like the look of him. Pretty poor reasons to base my judgement of him I know, but I just hate him. Its the same with Edgar as well. Glad to see the back of him. But for some weird reason I quite like the character of chloe. I admit she is sometimes socially retarded, but is always there for Jack when he needs her:indeed: Plus, I remember her looking quite fit in the first couple of episodes with that other guy she had a fling with...

Chloe's hilarious, her best comment was in this series when she called Spence through to another room and said..

Spence walks off
Chloe: "Damnit, why do I always do that?"
