The Mario Kart boxart was shown at the TGS conference, so yes it is official artwork, but It will change before launch, so fear not guys!

It's the logo that just doesn't do it for me. Besides that, does anyone really care -that- much about the box art? Sure good box arts are usually a given with Nintendo but I'll let this one slide as long as the game plays fine.

I think they should take the blue shells out. It means every game comes down to luck, and a skilled player can be unfairly hit and lose their position, dispite being a way better gamer. Some would argue it levels the playing field, but it just feels cheap to do that. I'd rather the Mario Kart weapons required more skillful use... i.e. no more homing weapons.

The weapons make it more fun. Plus, dodging blue shells, now that's a skill in it's self ;). I can't wait for this game; ^^ .

Does anyone know the Japanese release date for this game? I keep seeing the US and European dates all over the place but no Japanese one.

I’m just interested in how close to each other online DS games for the different regions are launched as I hope Nintendo are going to get in to the habit of having near simultaneous releases for WiFi connection games, even though by the looks of things that won’t be the case with Animal Crossing DS. :doh:

To the best of my knowledge you don't need a wifi adaptor, the DS is wifi enabled straight out of the box, all you need is to either go to a hotspot, or have your home internet done through a wireless router/modem.

You can play your DS online at home through your internet connection if there aren't any WiFi hotspots near to your location. You'll need either a wireless router or the Nintendo DS USB Access Point (http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=rcs&page=title&r=DS&title=731691). The USB Access Point device plugs into an available USB port on your computer and provides a connection between that and your DS for online play.

They are cutting out chat to stop Pedo's talking to kids... supposedly. I suppose with the Kiddie image they believe pedo's would start picking up DS's and chatting with kids online.
However remember this is only for Ninty games. Other developers may include chat with their games

I think the box is cool. The only reason why everyone thinks it looks so different is because there are basically no games with a plain white box. Nintendo is doing something different, I think it'll stick out on the shelf.

I also like the new Mario Kart logo. It looks more mature and sleek.

No, it will just be very inferior, imagine you and your opponent, he's ahead by about two kart spaces, and you throw a banana about 1 kart space in front of the finish line, he slips and you win! The trash talk possibilities are endless! but no, diabolical nintendo didn't put chat in, shame really. (I would have to write out some disses before I start playing though :p) This COULD'VE replaced the telophone, but it's better because it serves more than chat, it's a game system too! But, nope...

I'm not that fussed about no voice-chat. In my eyes, DS online is seen as a more casual way for playing against people across the world. If you want voice chat, downloadable content etc, look no further than Xbox Live.

At first glance it looks like he's swinging his legs over to jump into the seat but if you really look at it, you can see it doesn't look right... his hand on the front of the kart for one thing.

The whole "kiddy" image thing is stupid. The only reason Nintendo are called "kiddy" is because Sega labelled them as a "kiddy console maker" during the snes/megadrive era.

Edit: Besides, it's not essential. It's not like the game will be bad because of this. This is more like an afterthought or something.

We also have a main tourny in January.

I was just wondering. Will the DS wi-fi usb adapter need software? Because if it doesn't, you could take it to school, and use the usb on the computer there, and play mario kart wi-fi. How fun would that be? Equally, for people at uni like myself, take it to the study room, and use that computer!

Its out 11th November here in Europe, confirmed.
Thats first i'd heard about NOM though, interesting, but they can only really review it as an offline game can't they.

Having played the demo, I can assure you that the Luigi's Mansion track is fantastic. Much better than the boring battle mode track on Double Dash, as you get to go through the mansion and around the swamp outside.

That level you posted the screenshot of is quite good too, although the route, if my memory serves me correctly, is pretty boring - I think it just goes around in a circle.

I can see this game getting 95% pretty much everywhere, maybe a little higher.

Dalco: I've just kitted out my office and home with wireless stuff and did some research, and found that Belkins pretty much the way to go. Are you with BT or Cable? You might need to get the £70 router or the £80 router. Also the £80 router (twice as fast) has its own modem, which made it harder to get started if you ask me, as I coudnt use my already installed Wanadoo modem, but I got there in the end.

And yes, you dont have to turn your computer on, in fact the router doesnt even have to be connected to a compter (except on getting it started in the first place).

Oh, one last thing Mike, a track that goes round in a circle is fine with me. Have you played Baby Park Ride?! Awesome level - I would love this to be on the DS game! When you think we'll learn what tracks are on the game!?

Its only 4 player online im afraid and (again disppointingly) I seriously doubt you could do GP's with two, though that would be awesome!! And I think you WILL be able to be the same player.

The demo was good, but not amazing - basically it just played like every other Mario Kart game, so if you want originality, you're not going to get it with the demo. However, we've all seen interviews in which the developers have said that there'll be new weapons and stuff in the full game, so hopefully it won't get boring too quickly (like Double Dash did).

The new tracks in the Nitro Cup were all well designed, but, in my opinion, the tracks in the Retro Cup were an odd choice. Moo Moo Farm was as great as ever, but the others were just a bit dull. Why they chose the Luigi track from Double Dash I don't know.

The controls were fine, by the way - you don't need to worry on that front.

neways I wrekon we set up a ladder instead of a tourney so we can have constant battles e.g. www.enemydown.co.uk thats a ladder for lots of online games but i think we set up out own for mario kart and have like a

1v1v1v1 ladder and a

2v2 ladder and if they support it later on in the games age a 4v4

Mario Circuit 2 from Super Mario Kart better be in there, I love that track. And they'd better include the 2 pipes after the jump and the 2 bombs underneath it for some added excitement.

I think we should have a mini-league before Christmas and then the main league after Christmas but also have an on-going ladder at the same time.

Does anyone want to help me set up a small site where we can organise the leagues/ladders?

I thought it would be easier to set up the tournaments if we all just put in our details onto that page. We can see the total amount of players we have easily and where they come from (incase we have lag). We can arrange the tournies when everyone's signed up.

I don't have a clue when it will start. But probably about a week after launch so everyone who has said they'll play in the league has the game and people who didn't know about the league until after they've bought it can sign up.

We're working on prizes, dont worry. ;)

I don't think the Champions League will start until after Christmas (when the main league and ladder will start) because it will take quite a while to play all the games. I'll have a mini-league up right at the start though which will finish in time for Christmas.

The Main League (starting after Christmas):
I'm not sure how this will work properly, I'm not sure if 2 or 4 people in each race will be the best. 2 would be a lot easier to organise so it'll probably have to be that. I'll run a 4-man race sometime in the future, depending on how much time I have and how popular the leagues are.

Possibly 2 leagues at the start, with the top X of each going into the Premier Division for the next season. Places Y-Z will go into the First Division, A-B into the 2nd and lastly, C-D into the 3rd Division.

The first 2 leagues wil last a month (8 races, 2 a week) so we can quickly get the players sorted out into leagues of suitable ability. The 4-league system will have 2 months per season with the top 2 people from each being promoted and bottom 2 relegated. The top player from the top league will hopefully get a decent prize.

The Champions League:
Most likely, everyone will be put in groups. 1 person from each league in each group, so groups of 4, each player playing everyone else twice, home and away*. This will last quite a long time because everyone from the whole site should be in it. Depending on how many people we have left we might have to go into second group stage, with the top 2 from each league qualifying. It will go to knock-out over 2 legs for the last rounds. Winner will probably get a prize

The Ladder:
Everyone in the same ladder. You can challenge people X places above you (depending on how many people). You cannot refuse a challenge. You can't play the same player twice in a row. The person who's getting challenged is home*. You will have X days to play the game. The order of the ladder at the start will be chosen at random each season. The ladder will last for one season (2 months). Winner will probably get a prize.

* One person hosting one game, then the other person hosting the next

if i remember correctly i think someone posted an image somewhere, the info from your ds goes through your pc internet to the main server at nintendoHQ, then from there it goes to the opponent players pc then to his ds. i may have just made that up but it seems likely.
I dont have a wireless router also, but all you do is plug it into tour pc, set it up and off you go, i think they said there'll be no software so its just pick up and play.

It's a league, whoever gets the most points will. Or are you talking about the ladder? I'll just draw names out of a hat to see where people will start. There's no other fair way of doing it. Thanks for that link it got me buzzin. Custom decals for your Karts!!!!!! Like a mini version of Forza. Also Mario Circuit 1.....woooooooooo. You can get it in like 30 seconds but what an awesome track it is. I hope some of the Haunted tracks from the snes version make the cut.

Yeah the feather ruled. It was great in battle modes on the snes when someone had a red shell and you had a feather. It was kinda like a standoff trying to time who would fire first...ahhhhhh good times.

To be honest, aslong as I can defeat Stocka ( :wink: ), im happy! Hopefully Mario KArt will encourage handheld gaming and online gaming. Hopefully, it will encourage 3rd party developers too, especially Rareware and Namco (conkers bad fur day or online Symphonia anyone?). Also large online communities will show SOny how great nintendo is, putting their fans first and altogether to have fun! I for one will be worshipping nintendo when this game comes out! :bow:

as far as irc goes, i set up the channel for it, the problem is that the channel wont become properly active till it gets L status, to get that you need one op and three other users to stay in the room for 2 hours straight.

According to German stores and Bergsala AB (Skandinavian distributor), Mario Kart DS was delayed to November 25th, 2005. The former date was November 11th, so we have to wait two weeks longer. That would explain why the official teaser site says "Skidding into shops this November and not "on November 11th".

We also heard Nintendo plans to sell a bundle which includes a Nintendo DS (silver edition) and Mario Kart DS for Euro 149.99.

We still need a confirmation from Nintendo of Europe.

Fourthly how come they didnt confirm Yoshis level (another timetrialling classic) as it was THE first level to be shown, hope it hasnt been cut.

I think I read that there will be 16 retro courses, so 4 from each game. There should still be two more MK64 classics, then! I'm hoping for Wario Stadium, Mario Circuit or Peach Circuit.

And having played the demo of the game, I can assure you that you don't need to worry about it being too slow!

I'm going to be in the USA on that date, has there been anything to indicate I might have problems playing the game online when I return home. (To the UK). Incase I decide to pick up a US copy.

Well there was that one worry (mentioned last week) that you may only be able to get the code to give to people to add you to their friend roster if you register the game online. I don't think people from outside the US can register American games, so importers might not be able to get a friend roster code. If I were you, I'd wait until this has been officially confirmed / denied.

I know it's extremely annoying that the Americans are going to get this game before us (seeing as we were told for quite some time that we'd be getting it a few days before them) but at the end of the day, two weeks isn't that long to wait.

I'm seriously irritated at the delay we're getting for Mario Kart DS in Europe. I know it's only a couple of weeks but I'm mean what's the reasoning behind it? I'm sure it's just loads of American kids kicked up a fuss and Nintendo of America forced NOE to delay just to keep them happy.

At the end of the day this game is clearly ready and should be released worldwide on the 14th of November!

And to add to insult, you can't import any WiFi connection games as you need to register them with NOA to go online, something that's going to be even more annoying once Animal Crossing is released everywhere bar Europe.

I wouldn't be so sure. If NOE were originally planning to release it on November 11th (which we all know they were), the translation work would surely have been done a good while ago (and anyway, how much text is there really to translate in Mario Kart?). The only reason I can see for this last-minute delay is to keep the Americans happy. I'd be willing to be proven wrong, of course, but I just can't believe it's because of translation issues.

Absolutely, there is no way it's to do with localization at all, we're talking about Mario Kart not Animal Crossing! What little text that is present in this game was translated long ago believe me.

As far as keeping the Americans happy, well until someone comes along with a better reason for the delay in Europe (and nothing to do with localization) that's what I'm holding responsible.

i wonder if play.com will realise the dongle is £30, cos theyve got it for £15 on their website. do you think theyll change it, and if people have oreded it at that price, will they have to give it to them at that price. if so why doesnt everyone(who hasnt got WIFI) get it, im considering it.

The game WILL work with UK routers, the only prblem I can forsee is registering the game with nintendo to get your user number. Personlly I think it will be fine to import, though im still not, its only 2 weeks!!

:shock: Wow, I'm loving the silky smooth frame rate, not a hiccup in sight.
This game will simply rule! And if it's better than the original SNES version (My hopes are higher than ever right now) this looks set to become my favourite game of all time!
