Just so the staff know, the "Chat" link sort of works, but needs someone to go over it and tweak it.
Basically it connects to quakenet fine and even let's you see #revolution.eu. However, if you try and type a message straight into the window, it says that you're not in a channel and that you need to /join one (even though it seems that you *are* in one).
Basically, someone's missed a setting somewhere. If you type /msg #revolution.eu before your message, it works fine.
Can someone have a look at it? It'd be nice to get some people using it, because at the moment people pop in, then leave again because they can't talk :)
Cheers

I found and configured a working free java applet in about 15 minutes, as linked in my sig... Surely it's not too difficult to fix the one on the site?
Heh. Not to your channel however ;)

Wait... so you've made an revolution europe IRC channel too?
Why make two?

Hay man, I didn't create it, gimmie a break. I'm just trying to help... pJIRC is a cool applet which took almost no time to setup... you might want to use the same?
http://www.pjirc.com/
It's free and really easy to setup. It's pretty feature rich too as well infact.

It's nothing to do with me man. Like we did with Cube-europe, we asked if the powers that be wanted an IRC channel and then set one up. I'm not on the staff here, I have nothing to do with the running of the site. I was just one of the founders of the c-e IRC channel, something that I felt the forums needed back then.
The guys said on the cube-europe boards that they wanted revolution europe IRC channel so we set up "revolution.eu" (hyphons aren't exactly IRC ;P) and waited... then started to get suspicious when everyone was connecting and left.
Most people have just stayed put in #cube-europe for now anyway... seems wierd abandoning it after all this time :)
Howcome you guys have a channel? I thought you had to have a gaming website to be allowed a quakenet IRC channel? Seems barmy there being two IRC channels... perhaps it should get sorted out...

I dunno.. all I'm saying is if you need a decent java applet, there's your applet. Seriously it takes 5 minutes to configure.

I have about five Quakenet IRC channels, and I don't have 5 websites, so no, you don't need one.
Yes, Shorack, kopo and I created #revo-europe some time ago. This was, however, NOT to 'take over' CE and start some kind of revolution (excuse the bad pun). I'm more than willing to give the CE ops their op back, kopo, roadkill, shorack, zeik and I will just also have op... I don't really see the problem.
There's been lots of banter in #revo-europe, but I haven't needed to seriously kick or ban anyone, and upholding a sort of op-normal users ratio would be stupid. How often do you look at the list?
Face it, #revolution.eu isn't working out too well (if I may assume 4 users wasn't your goal). Making the step to #revo-europe wouldn't be overly hard. As you can see, Roadkill already did this admirably  .
Yes we'll have op, but unless we have a huge fight, I don't think this will even come into play. I don't even kick for fun (well...not on that channel anyway ;)) and will be sure not to in the future. It's never fun being kicked, even as a joke.
Ah well, that was my rant of the day :)

Well it's all down to the staff really. I asked if they wanted an IRC channel for the new site, they said yes...we set one up. It's not some kind of pissing contest, it's only an IRC channel :P It's not "ours is better than yours" or whatever. Why didn't the staff want to point at yours? Presumably its because people who got banned from the last forum now have ownership of that channel?
It's not exactly a fair comparison to say that the channel "isn't working out" when no-one can connect to it who isn't already on IRC, and all the IRC stalwarts of cube-europe are staying put for now.
As I say... connecting to the channel is nothing to do with me, I just set up an IRC channel when I was told the site needed one.
Presumably the site name will change again if Nintendo change the console name again, as many are expecting?

Somehow I don't think a chat room that gets op'ed by banned forum members will be something us staff are in favour of.

I know only one banned forum member on there, and he's harmless as a puppy on IRC. I know, principles.
Meh...
Dunno where you got the 'banned forum members' idea. Dieter, Roadkill and me are regular users, Shorack is idler and Zeik just happened to be around when it was founded.

As I say, its not some kind of popularity contest... whatever the staff want. I don't think it makes much of a difference either way, as long as all the ops know what they're doing. As long as the forum users have a place to go chat without people getting flamed for being newbies, or being made fun of, it makes no difference.
It's nice that since we introduced the c-e IRC channel, so many of you are now so actively involved in IRC to have already pre-emptively set up a channel for this site :)

Quoted for truth. But I still think that Zeik being opped would be a thorn in some people's eyes (although he does nothing but post a few obscene pictures now and then, and you can usually tell when they are :lmao: )
That last bit might've been a subtle burn, please forgive me if I'm wrong

However many people do enjoy the IRC channel every single day, often more so than the forum.

I'm not bothered about the ops, or the rules or who founded it. I'm just baffled over which one I should go too. I mean, if I stay at #cube-europe, will I be missing anything?
EDIT - And orf topic, when does the lease expire on XSOrbit?

You will miss much exciting banter, most of it consisting of homosexuality and other fine things :)
j/k for all you simple people

You can be in both, no big deal with most IRC clients. I'm in a bunch of channels on different networks.

As a rule, #revo-europe is a bit more active. As in, no one's spoke in #ce since I joined.

Sure it's more active than revolution.eu now, because there's no way of joining rev.eu via the website, and none of the c-e regulars have moved over yet :)

Any progress on this?
Every day we must get 30+ people join and then quit seconds later... we should really sort this out or people won't come back.
Jim had a poke at this about a week ago, but I'm not sure if he could do anything

IRC is pretty awesome, I try and go on it when I can, but often because of the time difference no one is active when I am.

Roadie linked to a completely free jIRC client that actually owns the ass off the one you're using.... or are there other limitations I'm not aware of? :)

Yeah, I second that. pjIRC looked tonnes better anyway... can't we just use that?
You only have to idle for a couple of hours to see how many people are probably being turned away from IRC because they think they can't work it or something... think how many potential users we've already lost?

Well, I know from experience that jIRC users should be seen and not heard. Of course this is generalisation but I'm sadly right in 99.5% of the cases ;)

I guess I'm one of the 0.5% then ;) (shock! I might be one of the other 99.5%!)
