View Full Version : "Touch Me" tagline has gone. In with: "Open up and Play"

Confirmed in the latest issue of MCV magazine Dawn Paine- Nintendo UK Marketing Director has confirmed that the new tagline for DS in Europe is now "Open up and Play".

Typed from MCV thanks to me:

"The objective now is to broaden our messaging to emcompass all the facets of the DS. We will incorporate different messages which are illustrated by different pieces of software: incredible use of the voice recognition demonstrated by Nintendogs, great use of the duel screen shown in Sonic Rush from Sega and great use of the wi-fi in Mario Kart DS.
All of this will be underpinned by our new tagline- 'Open Up And Play'. We simply want to appeal to all types of consumer and urge them to open themselves up to new ways to experience video games. After all, our mission is to redefine people's very perception of what a video game is and make games more accessible".

Touching is good is a pretty cool tagline, but it's good to keep changing.

"Open up and Play" seems to be more of a mouthful compared to "Touch Me" to make it a catchy tag-line.

Oh and does this mean that Nintendo will release a new T-shirt with the new tagline printed on it? I still wear my "Touch Me" t-shirt lol

maybe trousers/underwear instead ;)

i take the saying too literally and think of opening up the clamshell design.

Bad move. The 'Touch me' tagline was a fantastic peice of advertising, and seemed to work. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If you use the same adverts too much, people will already know the product that will be shown and there'll be no wonder of what it is. The advert would start and you'd be all "oh this is that touch advert thing", but with a new one, you'd go "huhwtfbbq".

Meh, the touch me tag lines is a bit dodgey. For some reasons makes me think of a peadophiles delight...ya know children playing and touching it an all... sorry

Does this mean they've gotten rid of that finger going through the wall as I bluddy hated that. In this day and age you wanted sleek slick adverts, no fingers bursting through walls :doh:

Dunno what to make of this, I quite liked the "touch me" tagline and feel the open up and play is a bit of a moutful, but I can see it growing on me, oh well at least we'll get too see a new set of adverts then (incidentlely I still haven't seen a single PSP ad yet, which I find very strange!)

I have an ultra exclusive "Touch" t-shirt as a gift from NoE after I done some deals with them. Only a few in Europe we're ever made. The t-shirts black and the words "Touch" are in big blod grey latters, and they are raised. Open Up & Play is cool, I saw some adverts for the same slogan on Meteos, Nintendogs, and Mario Kart DS.

i got the touch me tshirt with the vip pak, it was fun but i would never have worn it on the street wouldnt have seemed right. but open up and play sounds good,it goes with all ages, open up your children inside of yourself and play, maybe

Both kinda go together and both work well!

Although 'Touching Is Good' made more sense straight away and was cooler.

Hmm, I like all the touching taglines etc better... Altough, perhaps I shouldn't pass judgement until I see the ads etc.

I think the touch me ads are good, but It is good to change once in a while, the ads i thought were the worst was "In touch with origonal comedy" Does the DS have anything to do with comedy? Did anyone see that ad, nintendo sponsored, a bears tail and 8 out of ten cats, so if you whached them you would have seen it.

They're all pretty low budget and shit.. new Green Wing ones are okay, they have a good voice over.

:red: yes my mind is in the gutter. i keep trying to think of open up and play in a non amsterdam way but i can't. i keep thinking of a tall lovely blonde wereing almost nothing saying "open up and play". the next thing she says is "thats £700 mate":shakehead
