On Emerald and Trading

I got Pokemon Emerald, and Ive barely started it - just the fifteen minutes needed to get me to the first PokeCentre. My intentions are to trade over the little water type blighter Ive named Suds and then restart to do the same with the Grass type beasty.

The problem that is holding me back in transferring my new little Suds to Pokemon Box is not having a National Dex. I cant remember how far in you are before you get one... can anyone shed any light on this?

If its really far Im gonna have to put some consideration into whether or not I should go on and whether I should just restart and get the adventure moving with Torchic or stick with Suds.

You get the national dex after completing the league once, and having 100 Pokémon, if I remember correctly.I'm quite sure Emerald can't trade with box, but I maybe wrong.

Thanks Ramar, I was worried it was something ludicrous like that like that. I dunno if Id be willing to play practically the whole game just to trade em over and restart... but stranger things have happened!

Incidentally, I was in Game today and I forgot to have a wee scan and see whether they have any GBA link cables and maybe I coulda just went for a trade, GBA to GBA with Ruby and got on with the adventuring!
