Mario Kart League 2012

The N-Europe Mario Kart League is back for its 5th year and it has a new home on the Nintendo 3DS!!

League Community Code 52-2439-8243-6470

IMPORTANT

This year, we will have three League GPs every Thursday night, starting on the 5th January at 8.15pm GMT.

Due to the high possibility of a lot of people wanting to take part this year, we won't be restricted to 8 players, I would say a maximum of 32 players (4 groups).

If we have high numbers, I will split everyone into random groups and select hosts for each group, the host will be only one who should start the GP.

If anyone but the host starts the GP starter countdown early with people still yet to join the lobby, they will receive 0 points for that GP, it will pay to be impatient.

Once the league has taken shape, the groups will be split in accordance with your league positions, forming in a way a promotion / relegation system but there will still only be 1 league table.

Regarding theme nights, the plan is for the first 2 months to let people choose any character & course then they will introduced.

The league table will be updated every Saturday and at the end of each month, the player of the month will be announced.

Please read the rules at least once



If you use the Wuhu Mountain glitch during a league GP, you will be banned from taking part in the league. If you accidentally fall off causing the glitch, you will do the right thing and let everyone catch up with you.




Points System

The total points you have gained from Grand Prix (GPs) are divided by the number of GPs you have taken part in, giving you your average. This is what determines your position in the league table, so if you do miss a league night, if won’t affect your score but you will most likely change position in the league.

For example, if I scored the following points in 6 GPs: 32, 10, 19, 40, 16 & 19. I would have a total of 136 which would be divided by 6 giving me an average of 22.6.

If the League can get four regular hosts (one for each League room, as you mentioned in the OP) then I'm willing to bet this could be one of the best Mario Kart Leagues ever!

Actually, I think you needn't worry THAT much.

A couple of reasons for that are:

1. There's a chance I won't have access to internet on that day
2. I am doubtful, even if we all have access, that things will go smoothly regarding connection.

3. I've had quite some trouble with this Mario Kart and am still figuring out the best combination of wheels, body and glider. Not to mention all the 'legal' tricks and shortcuts we can pull of....there's so MANY!

Let's just say that I think we'll see some very interesting results on certain tracks...:p:grin:

However, I'd rank myself amongst the likes of Lostmario, Zechs Merquise, Yesteryeargames, and Welshgamer.

But the ones who I rank above us, are Flamekid and Dynamo.

But that's all Mario Kart Wii talk, of course.
I have no idea how anyone will rank up to anyone, and that makes this a whole new challenge :D

I think you just fall off on a certain place and Lakitu puts you back where your cheating ass should not be. I reckon the chances of doing it accidentally are slim

I use it only if the other players use it in public games, half of them stopped to attempt it, so I stopped with them. If you don't use it in public matches against the japanese, you're pretty much racing on your own.

Using it public matches is completely different to community / League matches.

I never pick that course and no I don't think they will patch it.

It is madness - out of a race of 8 people, three played honestly. I tend to drop bananas right next to that edge, but it cuts so much off they're well ahead after stumbling on my 'nanas.

On the topic of wuhu mountain, however, the other day I was doing some online and some guy picked it. As far as I could tell, not a single person attempted the glitch! I was trying to see if they did, though tbh I don't actually know the glitch so they might have manage it from behind me as I was sitting in 3rd for most of the race(watching the two guys in front, lol). Just how much of an advantage does it give you?

Well I sort of DID enjoy myself... but I only got to do one and half GPs and I did really badly at them.

I still don't really understand how anyone can be "good" at Mario Kart per say. You can be better than other people, but it's kind of just chance a lot of the time. I was doing so well in some rounds before being hit by 10 items and suddenly coming last.

And yeah... I got a communications error and then when I went back into the community to join again there was nobody else there, even though people were saying they were in the Chat Room.

EDIT: I dunno WHY this would effect anything, but why do the communities have to have their leagues on the same days? Some people can't do Thursday, would it be better to have one on Tues, one on Weds and one of Thurs? Or not?

RESULTS FROM LAST NIGHT

Important - Please read

Before I get to the good stuff, Fused King made a good point last night regarding there being less points available to those in smaller groups, I have therefore introduced a new points system for when we have less than 8 in a group.

It will work like this, if you are in a group with 4,5,6 or 7 players. Your points total for that GP will be divided by the number of players in your group then multiplied by 8, which will give you your league points for that GP

Highlights

I thought last night went well for the first night of a new complicated league, there were problems with people being disconnected then unable to communicate with others in their group so they join for the next GP, the solution to this is simple, we all need to use the chatroom.

A couple in our group got disconnected and once we had finished our GP, I sent a message letting them know that we had finished and were back in the lobby. I waited for them and they joined for the 2nd & 3rd GPs.

We had 4 groups playing simultaneously (something I never thought would work) and judging by the comments, those who played enjoyed it.

I hope those who had problems (connection errors) come back next week.

Onto the results:

In Group 1, Welsh Gamer won 2 of the 3 GPs with me & Tales sharing victory in the other.

In Group 2, RedShell won 2 of the 3 GPs with Mandalore winning the other.

In Group 3, Fused King won all 3 GPs. :bowdown:

In Group 4, Zell won the 1st GP, Eightbit won the 2nd GP and Whiffste & Demo shared victory in the 3rd GP.

Group 4 was definitely the group of death last night, so many good players fighting it out.

Fused King is the early league leader with Mandalore only 0.5 average points behind.

Already 10 players have tasted GP victory.

Details for next Thursday will be posted tomorrow.

Can everyone try to enter the community at exactly (or as close as possible to) 8:15 tonight please.
Last week when I joined at 8:15 some people had already been in the community for a while which caused an auto-start, meaning we all had to re-connect again. So if everyone can check the time and only join at 8:15, that would be great. http://www.n-europeforums.com/images/icons/icon14.gif

Also, I'm not going to have access to my usual camera this time, which leaves me using my DSi (obviously not ideal for taking screenshots :hmm:). So can someone else take pics of the results too as a backup?

Pre-registration needs to remain and regarding first come, first served? no, as I'll be putting people into groups determined by their position soon so that would wreck all my plans.

I've explained the points system already for smallish groups, I recalculate all scores, if you are in small group of 4, your points are divided by 4 then multipled by 8 to get your league score.

The league is working, just give it time, we have a lot of interest at the moment, when interest drops, so will the number of groups.

The groups are low because people are having connection errors, take away that and all the groups tonight would have had 6 minimum.

Well in that case yes, but what he means is that he does (p/n)*8 where p=points and n=number of players. Perhaps choosing 4 for n wasn't the best example.

It wouldnt have mattered anyway coz i was shockingly bad, but do you see whats happened there?

But they won't get more points with the way lostmario does it. You get the same amount of points for winning however many are in your group.

There is debate to be had for people who finish middle of the pack and amount of players etc etc but ike lostmario says, it isnt perfect, but is the only way of doing it, and mathematically sound
