View Full Version : The perfect launch lineup?
KingOfHyrule

For Nintendo to really take off with Revolution, the software has to showcase what this alien hardware is all about - what would be your perfect launch lineup for the system? I think mine would have to be -
Mario 128
Super Smash Bros. Rev
A driving game
A shooter
Something innovative that really shows off what it can do - a wacky minigame title maybe?
Save Metroid for later, and save Zelda for about two years into things (as usual)

i would put in the demos they played at tgs on a cd, like the fishing one and others just so people can get used to the contoller under different circumstances. At launch id like smash bros revolution and have it online straight away i know it will be but i dont want it to be like the ds and be online nealy a year later. id like some third party games like fifa or madden to be at launch. maybe someone could make a tennis game or badminton game for the revo, and that could be at launch to show the controllers off

Yes a demo-disk should really be included

Metroid will be an almost launch i think. Mario 128 & SSBR will be the most likely launch titles...and that new franchise Shigy's been working on.
Whatever shooter they make should have a memorable main character. They need 1 :)

SSB:R
Mario 128
Demo! (included with conole)
New franchise (FPS)
That'll do!
I also think metroid will be very close to launch. Nintendo have learned from their past mistakes and they want their launch line-up to pack a punch. I read somewhere that they expect Nintendo to have over 30 games ready at launch (including 3rd parties). Don't know if it's true or not, but it's a step in the right direction.

SSB:R
Mario 128
Metroid Prime 3
realistic racing game
a new old school Starfox
WarioWare to show off what is possible on the Revolution (basically the demos, but more of them and funnier)
That would keep me occupied for quite some time.
Hellfire

Mario, Smash Bros, Excitebike, sports games, FPS and RTS. These games or type of games could seriously show people what the Rev is made of. Using the Revo full capabilities on more than mini games is also very important.

Hard to say really. Mario 128 and SSBR are a given. If we're lucky Metroid Prime 3 and Miyamoto's new franchise will also make a launch appearance. Chances are Animal Crossing will make an appearance at/near launch as will Mario Party 7 and Wario Ware: Revolution to demonstrate the many different ways the revolution can be used.
A demo disk would be really nice to have so we can experience a small bit of the launch games before we purchase them.

An online Mario Kart and I'd probably buy one.

WarioWare must be a iven for the launch titles, as it will instantly be accessible to so many users, and will quickly familiarise them with the new innovations of the controller, so that when they come to the 'proper' games, they will know exactly what to do and when to do it.

Anyway, a game in the style of Killer 7 would do me just fine.
Although, as that is doubtful, a smash bros launch game and a mario kart launch game would be brilliant. :)

Definitely a good FPS, can't wait to play one using the pad, gonna be in FPS heaven using it with the analogue add-on.
Mario 128, want to see what they are going to do with him this time and how the pad is going to play its role.
SSBR, killer multiplayer title is essential for launch.

for the shooter I'd like a spin off of metroid - not a metroid game, in fact no mention of metroid in the title. and no samus (apart from maybe a cameo- but not shoe horned awkwardly)
something waky - I imagine Wario ware revolution would be a good game, in fact in the demo video when the screwed up music came on and there were those people dressed up - I thought that was wario ware :/
driving game... possibly.
I think a sports game though.
I'd also like a sword fighting game :D

Besides SSB(which will probably jumpstart Revs Wi-Fi service), a title such as Wario Ware would be great to make people comfortable with the controller, and see alot of wacky ideas you could use it for.

I'd say that;
- SSB Revolution
- Wario Ware Revolution
- Mario 128
are all given launch titles, with a strong possibly of
- Metroid Prime 3
- and maybe even Pikmin 3
A conversion of Mario Kart Arcade, or even a new Mario Kart could be on the cards and I'd expect Animal Crossing may not be that far behind this lot either.
We could also see the much rumoured Pilotwings; as it's now perfectly suited to the new controller setup.
Hopefully a brand new FPS is in the making to combat Halo and totally own all due to the Revs perfectly suited controller and online capabilities!
If Sega are going to bring us Sonic The Hedgehog (and not a unique Rev Sonic game), then i'd expetc that could be there at launch and a good possibility of a Rev controller specific Super Monkey Ball.

Halo 2!!!! :D
Just loads of online games would be good. A couple of each big genre..
MK and a realistic 3rd party one.
Weird new Nintendo game
SSBM
Metroid Prime 3
Timesplitters 4?
Pro Evo 5 AND Fifa 200X!
a Tennis game

Personally I think that there should be a balence of games for us, and games for non-gamers. Nintendogs revolution (with outdoor play etc) would sell like hotcakes.

Yeah, any of Mario Tennis, Golf, Baseball would work fantastic with the new controller.
I think we may see Nintendo's realistic sports titles first though; Wave Race and 1080, as this was the case on both the N64 and GC.
However, Excitebike got an N64 release but not a GC one; so theres a chance we may be seeing that on the Rev.

Nah, the Prime stories are sufficant IMO(meaning, make the story in the same style, not just copy&paste), but even tho they'll use the new controller setup, make it more like the Prime games and not Hunters, sure some actionpacked things of course, but also slow and exploring things.

And I'm not agreeing with you ;) (note, I'm not trying to start a flamewar or anything, just want to discuss a bit)
I think that part of the charm with playing Samus is just that you know so little about her. You know so little about her, and you are stranded on some beautiful alien planet where you could possibly be killed any minute. So no, I don't want a more emotionally gripping story, since then I think it would take away from the game. Sure, sprinkle in some more of the whole parents killed thing, but only from flashbacks etc then, in "now" time, I want to be all alone, somewhere where I can feel really lost and the only sounds I here are the water dripping in the cave and the roar of distant(or not so distant) monsters.
That's how I feel anyway :)

I think they should have at least Smash brothers as launch title (make a bundle) to keep us busy for along time. But also a new Mario. That has always worked best.
Also I would like to see Metroid Prime 3 and a new F Zero 0_0 ready for laun or within the month after.
;_; I just read about a FF CC being made for Rev ;_; I would sooo love that

A perfect launch for me would NOT have that many greatgames.
Mario and Wario Ware at launch, along with LOTS of 3rd party games - Some classics too would be nice.
We need to stagger NIntendos games, a month later comes Smah Bros, a month after that comes Shigsys new game, a motnh after comes another etc. etc.
I can really see NIntendo making a few lightgun games. I cant wait till Nintendo show some games!! Hopefully at their WiFi speech in October!

As well as a decent launch line-up, I would also appreciate one or two bundle packs, for example:
The Super Smash Bros Bundle
Contains the following:
1x Revolution
1x Controller
1x Super Smash Bros. (N64) (could be already downloaded onto Revolution, or perhaps a code you have to input that gives you it for free.)
1x Super Smash Bros. Melee (GCN)
1x Super Smash Bros. Revo

There cant possibly be the 'perfect' line up. Because a perfect one is impossible with a brand new console. Also they cant just chuck mario, zelda and metroid all out at once, theyll do it over time. But if there was to be a rev launch with that, everyone that is smart would want one! :D

I think there should be a game where you change channels on your TV.
A new Metroid would be nice and a good platformer and ofcourse the online version of SSBM
ViPeR
20-09-2005, 11:39 AM
First and foremost, the ability to download your first 3-5 NES, SNES, or N64 games free. There should be several, which have been upgraded to use the new technology and possibly online e.g. Goldeneye, Mario Kart.
As for the Revolutions lineup I don't think there will be too many first party titles.
Mario Revolution
Smash Bros Revolution
Wave Race/1080/Excitebike/Pilotwings
New IP's by 2nd parties (shooter by Retro?)
A bunch of 3rd party multiplatform titles
After launch we'll probably see all the other titles such as Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, Metroid, Zelda, F-Zero X etc.

I think there should only be 2 launch games from Nintendo themselves and make up the rest with 3rd party titles, I’d go with:
A good single player game like Metroid or Mario (more likely) and a primarily multiplayer based game like Warioware or Smash Bros. (again more likely).
Then 2 weeks after launch another 1st party game (assuming the previous week has seen 3rd party releases). And from that point onwards at least one 1st party title a month.
Oh – and a steady release of downloadable retro games too.
Orbis
20-09-2005, 12:15 PM
Bundled with the actual system should be a demo disk to get you used to the new style of playing, perhaps even an updated version of duck hunt  , same graphics as the NES version, but updated to use the Revs controller.
Besides that i think it should launch with the following first party games;
Mario 128
Smash Bros
Metroid Prime 3
At the TGS Iwata made a point about the Rev becoming a great system for FPS games, and i think to make this happen one needs to be available at launch, and what better franchise to launch then a new Metroid Prime game?
Then the usual first party games should be stagger over months/years (mario kart, fzero, zelda, pilot wings, star fox, donkey kong ect), but id love to see some new franchises made this generation, put metroid asside for one moment, cause it isnt really i FPS (more of a FPS), the next franchise i think Nintendo should make is of the FPS genre.
They need to make the FPS with a good story and fixed characters, like in mario, he is the hero and bowser is the villan, in zelda, link is the hero and gannon the villan, they should stick to the same plan and always have a set character and a set villan, that way the franchise should never die out.
Bundled with the actual system should be a demo disk to get you used to the new style of playing, perhaps even an updated version of duck hunt  , same graphics as the NES version, but updated to use the Revs controller.
Thats a great idea :) Would push the whole downloading retro games thing as well.
Mario 128 hopefully will launch with the system as Iwata wants Shigsy to get it ready in time. Smash Bros hopefully too, as Iwata as said it will be availiable for launch.
And Prime 3 will have been in development long enough by then to be out around the console's launch too. What a line-up!

No doubt. It is a fantastic line-up...but your forgetting one thing.
CAMELOT'S RPG! They confirmed that they were making an RPG at least 2 and a half years ago, so by launch it should be ready and very polished.
Who knows if it's Golden Sun, but I hope not. Golden Sun is INCREDIBLE don't get me wrong, but I have a feeling that given another chance to make a new IP, with the REV interface especially, they could make something along the lines of "killer-app".....easy.
Anyway, so that's 4 titles that I'm going to buy!
What else has been confirmed?
I can safely assume that a FPS will launch either with the REV or a couple months later.
Sports will definitely be on the REV and in time for launch.
Maybe a Sonic, but I doubt it.
So basically we have...
--Platformer
--Fighter
--Adventure (metriod)
--FPS
--RPG
--Sports
That's decent in terms of GENRES, but in terms of GAMES...WOW! Not to mention the 221 Nintendo published games on the "virtual console."
Anyway, I wouldn't be the least surprised if E3 06 showcased MANY REV titles secretly being developed by Capcom, Namco, Konami...among others...
