What would everyone say their favourite retro console was?

Mines definately the Megadrive, infact the megadrive is probably my favourite console altogether. Its the one where I remember having the most fun on games on my own and with loads of friends.

This is a tough one for me personally, as the SNES and N64 had so many gems; in the end i'd stump for the SNES thanks to illusion of time, terranigma, chrono trigger, Super Mario World andALTTP; just to name a few....lol

I'd have to say the N64, so many classic games. I loved Perfect Dark multiplayer. I might have said the SNES, but we didn't have many good games.

Although not 'retro' in the sense of the word, but I'll go with the N64. Some of the finest games ever made were the norm practically every month on that machine, and the controller paved the way for the future of gaming. OOT, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Mario Kart 64 and Banjo kazooie/Tooie were my faves from the '64.

Although I never owned one, id would say the N64, so many great games and a great looking console, i really wish id bought one.

I'm also going to say the N64 - GoldenEye, Super Mario 64, Mario Kart, the two Zeldas, all top notch.

I played GoldenEye the other day for the first time in ages, and it's still superb. What I wouldn't give for a remake on Revolution, with the new controller like your own Walther PPK!

- N64 - for me;

Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Majoras Mask, F-Zero X, Mario Tennis, Goldeneye, Diddy Kong Racing, Perfect Dark, Yoshi's Story, Banjo Kazooie, Beetle Adventure Racing,

All the games i played on this console were classics!!

If the Dreamcast counts as a retro console i loved that too;
but N64 was the best IMO!

My first console was a Mega Drive, but it doesn't have enough great games and Sonic doesn't quite reach the leetness of Mario. I also have great memories of N64. maybe even more than SNES, so come to think of it it's a tie between N64 and SNES.

If I lived in Japan it would have to be the SNES; since I live in the UK I would say the Dreamcast (if that counts as 'retro')

I tend to count anything before this current generation as retro now. Obviously not proper retro but for the purposes of the question I would

Megadrive or SNES. SNES for classics like Tetris Attack, Pop'n Twinbee and Illusion of Time, and Megadrive because Sonic 2 was my first 16-bit game ever and it still holds up to rigorous play today.

I'd NES because I find its brilliant to plug in and have a quick whirl on. The games aren't complex and are lots of fun.

My favorite retro console is a tie between the Game Gear and the Dreamcast (if you can call the Dreamcast retro).

Probably the 64 as I had 100% attention to it for over 2 years, not multiple consoles going at once, like now.

Megadrive, simply because of chuck rock, sonic and streets of rage

Either N64 or Snes, but due to a few N64 games, N64 just wins it! :D

N64 without a doubt.

Has to be the N64, afterall it had games like Mario 64, Ocarina of Time and Goldeneye, all of which (in my opinion of course) are genre defining games (basically they float my boat  )

..when people ask me what my favourite games are, I always tell them a list of games where the majority (if not all) are from the N64.. including Goldeneye, 1080, Lylat Wars, Super Mario 64, Legend of Zelda: OOT, Banjo-Kazooie.. so it has to be the Nintendo 64 for me.. so many great memories.. :)

Without question: the SNES. I say that the SNES is the best console ever. The games where alot better back then.

Saturn, since it has had at least 2000 hours of my life just playing NiGHTs.

Coming in at a close second is Dreamcast, which always seemed to have something I wanted. Also, Chu Chu rocket was the best puzzle game ever online.

Best retro console ever? The Sega Megadrive 2. Best console I've ever had, I play megadrive games at least once a month.

Don't forget Ghouls 'n' Ghosts.

Personally I would go with the SNES , as that console holds so many quality gaming memories for me. In particular the countless all nighters with mates playing Mario Kart and Super Tennis (think that was the title) whilst under the influence.

It was also responsible for my missus at the time chucking me out because of the amount of time I spent on it , and believe me , that was definately a positive thing.

I foolishly gave up early on the N64 , but am on a mission to explore that console again , so my opinions may change.

Don't forget Ghouls 'n' Ghosts.

Ghouls 'n' Ghosts was never on N64, was it?

No, it wasn't on the 64. Actually I don't recall a ghouls and ghosts game after the Snes/megadrive era.

MY fav console is the NES ive spent the most time on it, had the best multiplyer sessions and introduced my to videogames.
The Dreamcast is next up such an amazing console, ahead of the compettion and a great selection of games. But then thats not retro.

It's probably the SNES for me. I had so many great games for that system. I remember plaything games like Turtles In Time, Super Mario World 1/2, Super Mario Kart, Earthworm Jim 1/2, Top Gear, Street Fighter II series, Street Fighter Alpha 2, I could go on and on. It has so many memories for me.

Oh poo, I forgot the Amiga, which would be my favorite console.

By the way, I believe Chuck Rock was on the Amiga originally.
