Over the years there have been a lot of common questions asked by newbies and veterans alike. Here is a collection of a few regular ones. If you have any further ones just PM an admin
New FAQs
Q. With the change from Xsorbit to vBulletin I am a bit unsure of the changes. What is different between vBulletin and the old Xsorbit boards?
A. We have tried to manipulate the new boards so that they are as similar to the old ones as possible, to try and prevent confusion. If you are unsure however feel free to ask any of the admins and they will help you during this transition between the two board types.
Q. Why have you changed? What's so special about vBulletin anyway?
A. If you were around for any reasonable time at the old forums you will have known that Xsorbit was prone to its odd tantrums. vBulletin's structure is a lot more secure, which should hopefully prevent any hacks or random errors.
Q. Can I get my post count back, as I had reached a huge number on the old boards?
A. It was discussed in lenght but we decided that it would be too much hassle for post counts to be reapplied for each member. We have also decided to turn off post counts, to reduce attacks on "newbies".
Old FAQs
Q. What is the ranking system. How many post for each rank?
A. Ok the ranks serve no other purpose then to let you know how loyal a member has been to the forum. The ranking is as follows:
0 - Nintendo Newbie
50 - Nintendo Fanatic
200 - Nintendo Pro-Fanatic
500 - Nintendo Elite
1000 - Nintendo Gold Member
Q. I'm an addictive spammer, am I invincible to the powers of the all mighty admins?
A. No, all convicted spammers will have a serious post reduction. We feel this is a very fair punishment as it is post count that makes spammers spam. The amount of posts reduced will depend on your total post count and we do not always give prior warnings. Usually we reduce it by about 50% but that depends on the level of spamming. Now please don't all live in fear because you aren't sure if your post is spamming or not, everyone spams at some point and we allow for this, it is only repetitive spammers who are punished.
Q. I made a mistake in my post. Can I fix it?
A. Yes, just click "modify" at the top-right corner of your post. Here you can change anything you like in your post and also delete the post entirely by clicking "REMOVE". If you make a double post by accident please delete it straight away.
Q. I want to become a moderator. What do I do?
A. First of all never ever ask to be a moderator, if you do you will definitely NOT be picked. We admins have an eye for these things so we will spot moderators and not you. When we see someone who we believe would deserve to be mod we ask them if they are interested and not the other way around. All request will be ignored and any threads regarding it deleted.
Q. The Elites are the coolest group around. How can I join?
A. Same as above. Except that unlike moderators we generally pick people who hang around in Chit-Chat. And just so everyone knows we do NOT choose by post count. So don't make the mistake others have made by spamming and then demanding to be let in.
Q. I have a problem with a moderator. I believe his decision was unfair and unjust. Can I do anything about it?
A. Yes, let a admin know by PMing one of us. Just click one of our names at the top left hand corner and then click "Send this member a private message". Tell us the issue and who it is regarding, and if applicable please add links to the threads in question. If you create a thread, flaming a mod you will have it deleted.
Q. What is the difference between an admin and a mod? What can an admin do that mods can't?
A. The admins are the ultimate, they have more power then you can imagine. So basically any thing you can imagine we can do but we are also the most sensible people so we never abuse our power. Mods are also very sensible people but they have less power. A mod only has power on the board they are assigned to. All they can do is delete threads and posts, move threads, and edit posts. A mod cannot edit your profile, ban you, or reduce your post count. However just because a mod doesn't have the power that doesn't give you the right to mess with them because any recommendations we admins receive from mods to ban people are taken very seriously.
Q. I know your rule on "double posting" yet I want to add something important to a thread I just posted in, is it ok to double post then?
A. No, just click MODIFY next to your post and add more stuff in, then hit SAVE.
Q. Can I advertise for my site here?
A/ C-E constantly have advertising deals with different sponsors. If you wish to become a sponsor the please e-mail Tim. Free advertising is prohibited. If you advertise your site your thread will be deleted (not locked). We do however allow a very short add for your site to be kept in your sig. This add can however only include one line or writing and no images. Just say "Come visit my new Zelda site at http://www.zeldarules.com" or something like that.
Q. I'm new here at the forum and want to make friends quickly, what are some topics that I should avoid at all cost in order for people not to roast me alive?
A. When you are new to the board your main objective is to never create your own threads, just post in threads that others have made until you get the general idea of what people discuss. But whatever you do don't create threads along the lines of:
- Where are you from?
- What games do you have?
- I just got a GameCube
- I'm a stupid n00b and this is what you need to do to improve your forum...
- What's your favourite...
- Look, I've reached 200 posts
