The N-Europe Mario Kart League is back for its 4th year with a back to basics theme.

Its called Mario KART for a reason

IMPORTANT

This year, we will have three League GPs every Thursday night, starting at 8.15pm.

There will be no balloon battle / coin runners or Team GPs this year.

If any of you wish to host these once the three GPs are complete, thats fine by me.

Three GPs each Thursday mean if someone is late, they'll still be able to take part in two GPs.

The "Penalty Points" system has been scrapped but there are still rules to follow, see below.

Please read the rules at least once



You must follow the theme, if you pick the wrong character you WILL be deducted 10 points from your final GP score.

If you pick a bike in a theme night GP, you will be disqualified.

If you cause the wrong course to be raced, you will be deducted 10 points.

I'm a bike player as well but maybe I'm seeing the bigger picture, having it so we can only use Standard Karts makes it very competitive and wide open.

Just to throw an idea into the pot, rather than a single annual League, why not split this into 4 quarterly Leagues. Its long enough to ensure good averages for player, but should encourage players who may drop out due to an infection of 'not having a chance to win-itus'.

The main rule is just to make sure you use the Standard Kart. And obviously this time to pick Mario and the correct tracks too:

Standard Kart is the only vehicle we will be using this year, characters will change every week, some you can pick any character, others fixed.

I made notes after every match but I pressed the wrong button and lost everything.

There was one race I remember the best. It was the Bowser race on the second GP. I took the lead in what I thought was the early final lap and went for the entire round; oh yeah, I'm leading, I can actually win this, not long now, I can win this FAIR AND SQUARE!!!!

Seriously, I was about to have a heart attack when I saw the finishing line. I ended up at 7th very close to get to 11th.


Sorry for picking wrong races a couple times. The first time I read the rules wrong and thought the race name was under the picture, and not over. The second time was after I pressed the wrong button, backspace and therefore got stuck on the same page, but didn't get to see pictures. I figured out the pattern of video console but I got confused and thought it was still N64.

Highlights

A fantastic first night, great turnout. Started with 12 for the first GP, but Shadow got D/C, then Japjer joined and we had 12 for the second & third GP. Woo!!
Apologies to dazzybee who was unable to join.

In future can you all try and join before 8.15pm.. The room is open at 8.05pm.

At 8.15pm if we have slots free, the message "is everyone here?" will be sent out to trigger people who have internet access to invite the reserves in.

Onto the important stuff!

Flamekid won the 1st GP with 44 points, with Tales in 2nd 10 points behind, David was 3rd with 31 points.

Japjer won the 2nd GP with 41 points, with myself (38) and Fused King (37) not far behind

Fused King won the 3rd GP with 49 points, with Flamekid (46) and Japjer (41) pushing him all the way.

Japjer is in first place after 2 very impressive GPs. Flamekid & Fused King have also made very impressive starts to the year. All 3 have won 1 GP.

My decision to make this a standard kart seems to have paid off, last night was amazing.

Themes for next Thursday will be posted Sunday.

Japjer is the man to beat this year, I'll hopefully get my act together, felt very rusty during the 1st GP. Hadn't played in 6 months.

And regarding the standard karts, the motto for this league should be

Woo, first! Though i probably wouldn't be if i had been there for the first race too.

Got a small problem though, i won't be able to join before 8:30 ever, which means i would miss the first race all the time and it wouldn't be nice to take a spot and then only show up for the 2nd & 3rd race..any ideas?

Still need to get used to the standard kart a bit. Sure, it's not as much of a adjustment as most of you have to make, but the lack of off-road on the standard kart really slows me down. I just love cutting corners.

I expect RedShell to go up a couple spots next week.

Then there's the additional hurdle of finding everything so damn amusing. It's incredibly difficult to concentrate on racing well if you're cracking up all the time, and that's pretty much all I do when playing this.
It's even worse during N-E league games, with all its extra chaos and 12 clones of a single character. :laughing:

If you get forced to a stop, you can hold down accelerate & your drift button to charge up a short boost. Perfect way to get back in the game with vehicles that have crap acceleration. (For example, Bowser Bike's. God forbid, if that charge boost wasn't there I'd never use Bikes. :laughing:)

Also, did I over-do the highlights? I looked back at some of RedShell's, and I feel like I did too much? Correct me if I'm wrong.

LOL Massive fail on the first GP. First time I have used manual driving in two years or so. I had 10 players passing me by one round in the first race >_>

I can swear the the game showed 4th in the first race in the second GP, yet the results said 5th!

On the first race on the third GP was about to use a mushroom to boost myself to top 3 finish, but because of the ink I charged into a palm tree instead. Think that's the first time it really has been really bothersome :P

Overall, resultwise, it was a dissappointing night.

Another great night (for some :(), another great turnout.

12 players for all 3 GPs. No drop outs! Woo!

Fused King won the 1st GP with 37 points, with Flamekid in 2nd 2 points behind, yesteryear was 3rd with 34 points.

Japjer won the 2nd GP with 46 points, with flamekid second on 41 points and Fused King 3rd on 31.

Flamekid won the 3rd GP with 43 points, with Japjer 2nd on 39 points and David & Welshgamer joint 3rd on 29 points

Flamekid has moved up to first place after an excellent start to the year.

Japjer & Flamekid are pulling away from everyone already, even Fused King (defending champ, 2 years running) The guy in 4th (2008 league winner) is a joke.

Highlights

Another good night , another great turnout.

12 players started, unfortunately Shadow got disconnected. 11 is still good though.

Flamekid won the 1st GP with 48 points, with yesteryear in 2nd 3 points behind, Fused King was 3rd with 33 points.

Flamekid & Fused King won the 2nd GP with 47 points, with Lindsey 2nd on 32 points and I was 3rd on 28 points

Flamekid won the 3rd GP with 42 points, with Fused King 2nd on 39 points and RedShell was 3rd on 37 points

Flamekid won all GPs, sharing one victory with Fused King.

At the moment it looks like its a 3 horse race for the league title.

The fight is on for 4th place.... already.

I stand by my prediction I will NOT win a GP this year.

Sprout made a good debut with some solid performances. Welcome.

Adthegreat also made his debut but unfortunately is bottom of the league table. Hang in there, you'll climb off the bottom in no time.

Firstly, it seemed that the GPs were alternating between 100cc and 150cc, is there any reason for this? Also, is the table ranked by average points?
