View Full Version : Picked up a US Snes
I'm in the UK, and i've picked up a US snes, so i can finally play Earthbound and Super Mario RPG, and i've got a question about the power supply (I've done a google search and have gotten conflicting information)
The power supply is the official adapter (Input AC 200v Output DC9v 1000mA), and bundled with it was a travel adaptor.
Now my question is, will i be able to use this plug in a UK socket without anything blowing? I don't have either of the NTSC games with me atm so i can't just test it.
Any ideas?

Why wouldn't you be able to? Travel adaptors are designed for the one intention of allowing foreign devices to function on your native power supply, or vice versa.

You need to be confident that the travel adaptor will definitely convert between 220V and 110V.
Normally the correct one should not just look like a simple pin-to-pin converter (as with, eg. UK <-> Europe adapters), but will more likely be a brick with electronics inside (resistors, coil etc).
If it looks like it just converts the flat pins to fit a European/British plug socket, I wouldn't trust it.

Rico, you do not need to worry about using a step down transformer with this power supply since it is expecting a 200V input (I assume you are pluging it into such a socket) and is outputing 9V DC. What you need to check is the polarity (needs to be center pin negative) and that the plug will actually fit since the U.S. SNES used a weird connector.

Obviously the correct out put voltage is important and the polarity, other than that you just need the adaptor to provide enough current, there is no such thing as too much current as the unit just draws what it requires.
