Alright its getting out of hand. If you have problems connecting read the booklets and all that. If theres still problems try here. Had enough of seven hundred threads.
Any threads that are in the middle of sorting out problems will be left open for now, but closed when the problem is sorted.

Agreed, the words USB and Dongle are making me nauseated
Okay, I've got a problem. Everything seems to connect with Mario Kart and then it tells me there's a friend online and waiting to play, so I click on the friends option in wifi and it just doesn't find anybody at all. It never finds anybody either no matter what mode I go on. I don't understand why it would connect so far as to tell me whether people are online or not but still not quite seem to be able to connect fully for a game. :s
EDIT - oh yeah, i'm connecting using the nintendo dongle.

If you get an errorcode, u can check for help by entering that code on a help section on www.nintendowifi.com

I believe you need to click the lock in the friends roster section. This should let them access. The friend system is fairly hard to use as it is impossible to tell if they are online or not, so its best to check if they are online on a forum or on IM then you can be 100% sure, otherwise they could already be in a game.

I have a huge, and needy problem
I have a Belkin F5D7630-4A, SSID belkin54g,
I keep on trying to get on manually AND Search for an access point, it finds my wireless router, but never manages to get in. I have gone on the nintendowifi website and doesn't help me at all. Neither does the booklet.
Anyone who could give step to step instructions to me would be AMAZING!
If you could, I would be incredibly thankful, as I have wasted all day trying to connect
Thanks a million,

Well I have a Power Mac G5 with an internal 'Airport'. My DS gets the signal ok but then get an error '52000' unable to obtain IP address. This could be the security settings on the Mac but as I'm pretty new to 10.4 I'm having no luck with my usually inspired troubleshooting.
Don't make me go cap-in-hand to Tec Support.
'free and easy' access anyone?

I've got the same router and had the same problem. The thing that I DIDN'T do, was to add ten to the last digit of my IP address. Once I did this, it worked ok.
Example - if your IP address is 192.168.1.2, then on the DS you enter, 192.168.1.12.
This works good, except the connection keeps freexing during games. Grrr.

Ok, heres the problem.
Went around my mates house to go on Wi-Fi with his wireless router, its compatible according to Nintendo, so we tried.
Picked up the connection, then the problem came when testing it.
We waited for 10 minutes, it kept testing the connection, and no results were coming. Another 5 and still no results, we start to wonder and turn the DS off because there is no way of canceling the testing.
Any one know the problem?

It finds it but wont let you in? Do you need to put in the network key perhaps? Its 26 characters long and is a mix between digitals and numbers. If on your computer you go to Control Panel, then to Setup Wireless Network. Click "Add more connections to '[network name]'" and click "Add devices manually" then "Print connection details" it will tell you there.

Sorry about the thread made a few minutes ago, the sticky must have escaped my eye somehow.
I insert the CD, and run the installation program. I get as far as the screen telling me to insert the dongle into the USB port. I do just that, and it comes up with this:

The program then ends. Any idea whats going on? (And having the dongle inserted before installation doesn't work).

I've been constantly getting error 52003 since I received the dongle in the post ( 4 hours ago ) and have been trying relentlessly to get it working. I've tried switching my firewall off (zone alarm), i've tried plugging the modem straight into the pc instead of going through the router. I've tried both at the same time. Every single time it's "Error 52003".
I've been hunting around forums looking for answers but so far nothing has worked.
I've opened the TCP ports stated by Nintendo but from what i've read the range of UDP ports to open is over 1000 and i've already tried without the router so I have no idea what is the problem.

Anyone with a Mac and Airport, this (http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20051119155606277) should work.
I had connected with the belkin thingy on the pc downstairs, which worked fine, except every few races it would freeze completely for about a minute. Annoying and a half. Katie, Mazter and Red shell know what I mean. Well, they know I disconnected.
But with my Mac it works fine and dandy :)

After reformating, it seems like after a bit of testing, Zonealarm would not let me go online with my DS whatever i did. Even if i gave the nintendowifi.exe all the control in the world. I beleive it is possible to(instead of uninstalling zonealarm like me), just closing zclient.exe and vsmon.exe

When you type the routers address into a browser the config page should show.
If you dont know the address: Start>Run, type "cmd", press enter, now type ipconfig, the address you need is the "Default Gateway".

So, lots of people have the problem that the software for the USB dongle won't install. After the dongle initially is recognized, you are later asked to insert it again on the step "Internet Connection Sharing".
After lots of Googling, and strongly believing that if only I could get that "Sharing" tab in my Network Connections, Properties, the problem should be solved.
So, I've wasted a few hours, because what I learned is that if you only have one network card (NIC) you can forget about Internet Connection Sharing. (Apparently, most PCs have two of these, one for the modem and one to share your connection with another device, like the USB dongle. My laptop however doesn't have this.)
Now I'm far from technically savvy, so maybe I'm wrong. But could this be the problem?

So, lots of people have the problem that the software for the USB dongle won't install. After the dongle initially is recognized, you are later asked to insert it again on the step "Internet Connection Sharing".
You're supposed to install like this.
Step 1 . Insert CD and let autoplay run, loading the instalation. Click ok. (DO NOT PUT THE DONGLE IN YET)
Step 2 . Wait until it asks you to put the dongle in, then place the dongle into a free usb (2.0) slot.
Step 3 . Let the instalation continue, (it will also install the drivers for the wifi dongle (wifi adapter) ) aswell so just let that continue till the end.
If it says there is an error with the connection sharing and thus does not finish, there is something wrong with your internet connection at that time.
When the instalation is done you can remove the cd.

I appreciate your trying to help, but the problem is more complicated than that. I've done all the required installation procedures, and there is nothnig wrong with my internet connection. (You must have guessed from my description of the problem that I installed it wrongly, (and I can now see why  ) but that's not the case).
This is a very specific problem, lots of people have it (there are 17 pages on an NOA thread about this).
I managed to solve the 52000 problem. I have a SMC Barricade 2804 Broadband Router, I could connect, but had problems I couldnt retreive IP address. So I tried manual setup, but still didnt worked.
In the end I decided to look for a firmware upgrade and it worked! Great stuff!

what is the range of the "dongle"? same as Ds vs. Ds??
hi, I have a 3Com OfficeConnect ADSL Wireless 11G Firewall Router Model: 3CRWDR100A-72 and I'm having problems with MKDS when trying to go online
Error Code 52000 when search for Access Point then ''test connection'':
''Unable to obtain an IP address. Move within range of the access point or check DHCP setting...''
Error Code 52100 when manualy setup then ''test connection'':
''Connected to access pointe but unable to connect to server. Confirm connection and internet availability..."
I've tried the Error Code thing in www.NintendoWifi.com and did what it said with no results. And I tried to disable the firewall on my router with no use.
Also when testing connection (and after the error code) the internet on my computer doesnt work and the 'WLAN' light keeps blinking, I have to turn off and on the router to use the internet.
My settings:
Wireless Encryption: diabled
DHCP server: enabled
Channel: 11
Wireless Mode: Mixed (11b+11g)
SSID Broadcast: Enabled
Software version: 2.06 (Sep 21 2005 14:24:48)
and the manual for the router says that the router automatically reduces transmission rate (DS is 1-2 Mbps i think).

I've been getting the 52103 error code, saying my dongle is unable to get through my firewall. The only problem with that is that I've tried disabling my firewall and it still can't get through. Does anyone know what the IP address(es) are so I can actually test if my ISP is connecting to these WiFi servers? That's the only bit of useful info that's missing from the NintendoWiFi.com website's FAQ of firewall problems.

Just thought I'd post the error I had and how I solved it, so others could use it.
Basically I was getting Error 52003 using the official dongle. Which meant it couldn't find the IP address, basically I enabled my Norton Firewall to allow the necessary software, then when it ran a check on my connection I disabled my firewall for the minute or two, then when it had confirmed the connection I enabled my firewall. Hey presto it worked.
hey i dont need help i solved the problem: the ip address was x.x.x.1 so i looked at the settings then i saw that my brother on his laptop is x.x.x.3 and this computer (LAN) is x.x.x.5 so i noticed that .4 wasnt used so i changed it to that and it works!!

USB Connector is maybe 30cm away from my DS and while checking the connection I have full speed so that can't be the problem. I also disabled the firewall (and of course all the processes attached to it) and that didn't work either.
I think it has to be some kind of networking problem maybe because I have a USB modem and not a standard ethernet/network one.

On Norton, if a program wishes to connect to the internet I have to give it permission. If it doesn't have permission it can't connect and thus doesn't work. I have no idea how mcafee works, but when you installed the software did anything pop up asking to be permitted?

LOL. A little advise from myself:
Don't bother with the Support Formular on www.nintendowifi.com - I filled it out yesterday with really in depth information and the answer to my problem is ->
Hello and thank you for contacting Nintendo,
I was sorry to hear you received an error code. For information about what your code means, please visit http://www.nintendowifi.com/consumerservice/techSupport.do. On the right side of the screen, you'll see a gray box marked "Experiencing Game Errors?" Type in your code in the line marked "Enter Error Code" and click on the button to the right of the line. You'll receive a description of the problem and instructions for solving it.
In addition, you may want to try our general troubleshooting tips by clicking on the following link:
http://www.nintendowifi.com/consumerservice/showTopic.do?catId=General_Connection&topicId=WiFi_general_all
The tips included here provide a broader spectrum of assistance for Wi-Fi-related issues. Please give them a try. If you still have problems, we would like to speak with you directly. At your earliest convenience, please call 1-800-895-1672.
I would rather wait a week before i get a answer but at least from a real person and not some automated reply machine. I am sorry NintendoWiFi is great but so far I had nothing but problems even though I use that Plug and Play dongle for 40€!

And yes i have looked on the official Nintendo Wifi website, but still counde't find my answer.
Had a browse on nintendowifi.co.uk and found this for the Bt Voyager 1500, I'd give that a whirl if you haven't already.

Hey,
Hope some of you can help me.
The computer I have is connected through a wired LAN to a main computer (server). I have bought a PCI Wireless Card that is compatible with the DS.
I am running Windows 2000, and when I search for the Access Points on my DS, it finds one, when it's "testing connection". it comes up with:
ERROR CODE: 52000
Unable to Obtain IP adress. Move within range of the access point or check DHCP settings.
I have the "DS_WiFi_EN" Word file and its a tutorial for XP, so can anyone help? Much appreciated.
I believe you have to use Xp for it. Sorry! Otherwise try using another way to connect, as another member posted in my USB Wi-Fi thread.
The way to do it is here, although it is for AOL it should work with any modem http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,6332885
Hope that helps!

So does anyone have a fix for the 10 minute disconnect from wifi (error 94030)?
I have Belkin F5D7630 router with Wanadoo 2MB service.

Ok im getting error 52003 about internet connection sharing problems. It was working fine (i have had it since last friday) until earlier when i tried to play whilst my sister was on her account. When i tried to connect it said "error 52003 unable to obtain IP address" so i thought i'd uninstall and then install the software. Now i can't even get the software back and running again because of the internet connection sharing problems. Your help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

I followied the guide i got with the game (the gameplay at home - quick setup part) but when i try to get my DS to find my Wireless connection it says there isn't one in range. I am sitting right next to the router so it sould be in range. When i tryied just to start a game without setting up the connection it said i had error 51099 which i guess is "you havnt set up a connection". Any help?

I had the same problem, went to the computer shop, asked them to check if my router wasn't broke or something, they came back and said that the router was too old and the DS couldn't find any connection. I think they said the router wasn't SSID compatible or something. So my point is, get a new one! 85€ for a good belkin router isn't that bad. Better than 46€ for a nintendo usb dongle anytime.

I'am really in need of dire help, and it seems the official website doesnet give that, so if anyone here knows my problems please say...
So i have the Bt voyager 2000 wireless router, but i'am having major problems with getting the DS wifi connection to work. It just gives the error, "Connected to access point but unable to connect to the server" also when that happens it messes up my internet connection with me not being able to browse websites, and having to click on "Repair" in the wireless network connection to get it to work again :/
My PSP website browser works fine with the router, all though that might not have anything to do with the DS...
I've never been so lost on how t get something to work ever...

Hi, I'm using a D-Link DI-614+ wireless router. It is not listed on the official site. The DS cannot locate the signal of the router, regardless of if I select "search for access point" or enter the data manually. I have tried with both with and without WEP. Broadcast is set to "on." There are no blocks on IP's or MAC's.
If anybody else has tried using this model of router and got it to work, or has any kind of input, it is greatly appreciated.

Okay i'm using a dongle,
Error code: 52103
Connected to access point but unable to connect to the server. Confirm connection settings and internet availability.
EDIT: WORKING NOW! :awesome:
I see many of you are having trouble connecting the DS to the internet and getting error codes like 52000, telling you there's a problem with the DHCP or unable to obtain the IP adress. Exactly what I had on my first tries.
I'm on a SMC 2804WBR router have a WEP code to protect things, but when I entered that into Mario Kart, it still didnt work. The next day I logged in on my router and found out that I had a WPA code enabled (I did?), so I turned that off and it worked. (Of course, since the DS cant handle WPA)
It may not be much help, but hope some can work it out.

Hey everyone, I see lots of people are having various problems, and I think I might be able to help. Incase this effects any of you please be aware of the following:
When using WEP encryption at home, you set the WEP code and the select a key, from 1 of 4, they all appear to be the same WEP code however. It is important to note that the DS will only work with WEP if you use key 1. That is, you cannot use keys 2, 3 or 4!
I'm not going to go back through and read four pages of problems, but I will try to check back each day and help out if I can.
note - I'm not trying to make out like I'm a god or something, but I do do IT support for all of the wireless users at work so I am hoping I will be able to help you all out! Here's hoping! PM if you like!

You could try and set up internet connection sharing manually, to do this, you need to locate your connection (from control panel > network connections) then right click it and select properties. I'm not 100% but I'm pretty sure its the last tab (maybe 'advanced') and turn on internet connection sharing, then re-try the installation.
You may need to reboot after turning it on!

Have you input your SSID to your DS correctly, remember that it is case sensitive
Try turning off all of your security and then try to connect with your DS. If it works, we can try and narrow down the problem!

Is your firewall turned on? Also, are you close enough to the device, according to the nintendo website, it could be that you need to re-install the software as well.
Go to start > run, type cmd (press enter) then type 'ipconfig /all' (without the '...') and you want to look for the bit that says 'ethernet adaptor local area connection' (or something to that effect) and PM me the IP addresses.
That'll do for now, time for bed
I have to wait one week to see whether they'll be any problems with my wifi connection. I decided to get an official USB dongle and go from there. Can't believe the amount of problems there have been with AOL!
Anyone here with a BT connection and a Belkin router that has experienced any problems, with the router or the dongle? I hope the lack of response concerning these is a sign that there a no problems :)

Right, I cant get this stupid dongle to work. I put in the CD, run it, it loads for a bit and then says "Insert WiFi Dongle". I do that, it loads a bit more until it gets to a section about Network Sharing, and then asks me to plug it in again, even though I havent removed it. I click OK and it says "Applications Failed", leaving me no choice but to close the window. Has anyone managed to resolve this? The only advice they have om nintendowifi.com is to reboot the PC, which has done nothing. I also cant find anywhere to manually enable Network Sharing. Some help would be nice, since the wifi website says that the Help Page cannot be found.
When it says insert USB adaptor, unplug it and reconnect. Now try!
If its already installed, unistall the hardware for it.
Then try doing it again.

I have got the Nintendo wifi adapter, and hen I start to install, it says error with internet sharing, what the heck does this mean, help!!!!!
Sorry, I know this has been asked before by 1UP King (I read through the thread hoping my question had already been answered but sadly it hasn't).
Anyway, I'm currently on a AOL 2.2Mbps connection (which jumped to 400Mbps 30 mins ago lol ::shrug: ) 9.0 with Windows XP service pak 2 + BT Voyager 105 USB ADSL Modem.
I just got my USB dongle from play 4 hours ago and I installed the drivers with no problem at all. The Nintendo registration tool works perfect.
My Problem: Error Code: 52103 keeps showing up during the connection test & it says the following:
"Connected to access point but unable to connect to the server. Confirm connection settings and internet availability.
For her visit www.nintendowifi.com."
Now when I visited the site it spoke about firewall - check, I've changed it so it DID allow full access to the Wi-Fi programme not only that but I set my firewall to "disable".
Verify that your router is connected to the internet when attempting to connect to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. If you are not able to access the internet on your computer, then there is a problem with your internet connection. Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for more information.
The thing is, I have full access to the internet right now so I really don't understand whats wrong. I am really, seriously, getting pretty annoyed right now but hopefully one of you guys or gals can really help me out. Thanks :)
Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help :P

Here's a possible solution for the people with the Belkin router F5D7630-4A:
http://www.timepeace.co.uk/F5D7630-4AandDS.html
I've brought this over from the official NoE forums from a user named in the link ( Russell C ), so all thanks to him!
On another note, there is wide disappointment with the D-Link router
DSL G604T but apparently, you can download firmware from the AUSTRALIAN website which allows the DS to connect to and through it. It takes a bit of manual setting up afterwards, so if anyones interested, I'll cut and paste it here for later this afternoon.

You seem to have got past the internet sharing stage but have you checked that it's been enabled for the LAN connection of the dongle. The only other problem I've come across for your set-up is if you are using AOL as your ISP.
Does anyone know how to make the USB dongle connect without turning off PC guards firewall?
You should be able to allow the Registration tool to connect through the firewall, that should do it.

It's set to allow inbound and outbound connections, yet it still doesn't work.

Have you checked that internet sharing is enabled for the dongle from your internet connection's properties? This is a common error message and unless it's to do with sharing and how many computers are on your network, then it's an unknown at the moment I'm afraid. AOL is a factor as well.

error code 52003 any help with getting my wi-fi up and running i would be most greatfull (i have aol) this might help some of my fellow aol users
you need to make a new network connection. First you must uninstall the wifi connector.
*********please note, this is only for AOL users witht he nintendo wifi connector***************************************** ************************
uninstall the wifi connector first.
Click "start"
click "control panel"
click "network and internet connections"
click "network connections" at the bottom of the page
click "create a new connection" on the top left of the page (in the margin)
click "next"
click option 1 "connect to the internet"--then next
click option 2 "set up my connection manually"--then next
click option 2 "connect using a broadband connection that requires a username and password"
put "AOL" as your ISP name
as your username put your aol mail address (eg stevenmicha@aol.com)
as your password put your aol password (the one you use to log on with)
confirm password
uncheck the first two boxes (leave the 3rd box "turn on firewall for this connection")
check the box which says "add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop"
thats your connection sorted...almost anyways.
Make sure that your NOT connected to the internet and then reinstall the nintendo wifi connector. It will come to a point where it will say "not connected to the internet". At this point, right click your new shortcut on the desktop--should look like aol(pppoe) or something similar-- sign on and then click "retry" on the installer.
From then on it should be fine.
Hope this helps,

http:// I have a Belkin F5D7630-4A router and my DS finds it but never lets me connect to it. I have tried manually typing in my settings and assume I must be doing it wrong because it doesn't work and I have seen at least 2 people in this thread have got it to work. People have mentioned adding 10 to the last digit of my IP Address but that doesn't work so I assume I am typing in information incorrectly. Here is the information that is displayed when I type in my IP address into my browser. I haven't typed in my WEP Key on my DS, is that a reason for it failing? Please can anyone help?

You shouldn't alter any settings that are generated for you when you go online, like WI-FI ID and friend code. Some D-Link models are somewhat incompatible but if you've been using it before, then there's no reason to not be able to get back online. Give us some of the settings that don't give anything unique away from your router/modem and let's try to see if there's something you've missed.

Your router is probably fully compatible, if it's the version C3. Even so, it might be a good idea to update the firmware, if you haven't already, just to see if it's that that's making it unstable. Failing that, you could change the router's default IP A/D to 192.168.2.1 o avoid conflicts. You will need to reset and save so that you can still access it from the new webpage address.

I got Mario Kart and Tony Hawks in november last year and could go online when ever I wanted. I got a US copy of Animal crossing today and try to go online with it and I was getting the "53000" error code, I try to go online again later and I was no longer getting "53000", but "61020" saying I have connected to my access point but could not connect to Nintendo WFC. I tried going online with my other games and now there showing the same error code when I try to connect. Does anyone know how to fix it.

Guys, i keep getting this error code:
52203
Connected to access point but unable to connect to ther server. Confirm connection settings and internet availability.
Stupid dongle. The only information i can give is that i am using a laptop computer, running XP and am connected to the internet as part of the University network via a cable coming out of the ethernet port. Is the network causing this error? Would a router sort it out?

The problem is to do with the laptop and the network if you aren't getting a full connection directly from the internet and only receive a shared part yourself. It can only be shared once, with another device or the dongle itself. Laptops are tricky to get working with the dongle for some reason. My PC works fine with it through a speedtouch USB modem, but when I try to use the same modem on the laptop, it doesn't want to know, inspite of both new sets of drivers ( 1.02/1.03 ).

Im trying to connect with a Datel wifi max dongle through my laptop and its cable modem.
I keep getting error code 52000. Unable to obtain an IP address. Move within range of the access point or check DHCP settings.
The wifi max comes with software pretty much designed for the DS so now i think its either my DS or my laptop.
Anyone else experience something similar?

They only need their own ip address. Can the ds get the adress from a DHCP server?
DNS should be the one that your internet service provider gives you.

My son has a DS with Mario Kart and Animal Crossing. He can get online (after 3 hours of brutal hacking!) to our 3com router WiFi. We are using 128-bit encryption.
The problem is that both games keep freezing; no error message. Mario Kart freezes usually in the middle of the 4th race, sometimes on the 3rd race.
Animal Crossing freezes whenever someone "comes over from another town" in the game, or if he goes to someone else's town (in the game).
Neither game ever freezes except when he's playing online. It's so bad, that he just doesn't go online anymore!
Any ideas?
Thanks.

The ip is usually something like 192.168.xxx.xxx But can't you use the search for an access point feature in the DS? Just configure your router to not hide the ssid. And when the ds finds your wireless network write the wep encryption key to your ds and it should work.
About the dns i'm not sure if you need to have it, but my comp has my router's ip as the dns address. And the router has the ISP's dns address.

You can just make an IP address up, I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter at all what it is. You'll need to put in the DNS address of your router in the DNS box and the IP address of the router in the Gateway.
If you've enabled DHCP it should all be done automatically though...

That happens sometimes with Mario Kart, I'm not sure if it's due to your ISP or something, who are you with? Have you tried disabling the encryption and trying?

Unfortunately, your problems lie within your router which has difficulty with the low speed of the DS WI-FI connection of 1 to 2 mbps. Most routers can be set to auto or that specific speed in order to handle it but yours and several Belkin ones too have no way to set that speed and therefore will cut-out after exactly 10 minutes on MKDS matches. Your only option is to get a new router, like the Netgear DG834G v2. Sorry but there truly is no other solution.

Those are the UK. assigned numbers but you will get a range to input from your router which will normally allow up to 253 other devices to have an address assigned. So if your router is 192.168.0.1, then it will assign numbers starting with 192.168.0.2 up to 192.168.0.254 through DHCP. Picking one of those numbers should be sufficient.

You say it cuts out after ten minutes exactly. This sounds like "it is working okay, let's kill it".
Why would it work fine for 10 minutes, then cut out? Is it overheating? Is it jealous?
I cannot believe that it works for 10 minutes exactly, then decides to dump the connection which was working fine.
Can I get out a knife and cut some traces? Is there a chipping solution? I am NOT going to go buy a new ADSL modem only 2 months after getting the 3com!!!

192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.0 is class c address and it's reserved for use with private networks. For example the intranet of an organization. They are not routed on the internet as they're "private" addresses.

Nintendo UK told me today that many users were successfully using the 3com OfficeConnect Wireless 11g 54mbps ADSL modem. (Liars)
They said that the modem had to be configured in 11b only mode, not mixed 11b+11g.
We did that; it made NO difference. The Mario Kart freezes after 600 seconds, and then 20-30 seconds later the screen goes dark and ERROR 94030 appears "You were disconnected from the Nintendo WFC"

'kay, at my college we have about 20 routers all connected to the same internet service. Laptops work fine, you detect and connect, the dhtcp thing downloads all the settings to connect.
But when I tried doing auto detect I was unable to connect to the router or the server though it could detect the router as 101. There are always 3 bars of signal on the routers (it's a mesh) and I've tried connecting to them all.. none work this way.
It's running a common RM network found in schools and universities up and down the country, I know the SSID and I know the ip of the routers (it's printed on the side of the router)
I enterred mario kart manual set up, enterred the SSID as 101 (which it is when detected) and enterred the IP printed on the router in a variety of the forms on manual set up.
a good 2 minutes of connecting later and I get the error 'connected to router but unable to connect to server'
I'm told the network runs 802.11a/b/g so it is fully flavoured.
I get the impression they may be blocking the ports required for the Nintendo DS to connect to the server, perhaps they only allow access to HTTP/e.mail.
Your thoughts/ideas would muchly be appreciated, I'm not expecting it to work really.. But it would be nice to play at lunch in the canteen as I only have 3 other regulars in the canteen to play with on local wifi.

Firstly, let me say how Helpful 3com has been in this whole debacle. They are actually allocating a budget to try to find a solution to this!
And how Totally Unhelpful, Misleading and Rude Nintendo UK have been to me. They have published incorrect and misleading information on their website about a wide variety of modems.
WARNING: Before you buy a wireless modem, BE SURE you can take it back if it doesn't work with your Nintendo WiFi.
Today, I spoke with both 3com and Nintendo UK (AGAIN! 9 hours total), and they said they list the 3com 3CRWDR100A-72 on their pages because they blindly Copied those pages from the USA website.
Then, the manager (name witheld), said that those are only setup pages, and do NOT guarantee that the modems listed will Actually work ! One of his assistants told me that you have to go to the "Router Compatibility Ratings" page, which is NOT connected or linked to the Setup Pages !!!!
http://www.nintendowifi.co.uk:80/customersupport/supportedRouters.do
Once you are there, you see that the only 3com router recommended is the 3CRWE554G72TU. I asked the flunky "expert WiFi guy" about this router. The "expert" Nintendo WiFi guy said, "Oh yes, you should return your 3CRWDR100A-72 and exchange it for 3CRWE554G72TU. It will definitely work - It gets 5 Stars!"
What he didn't say (because he was too lazy to check) is that the 3com 3CRWE554G72TU is ONLY licensed for use in the USA and Canada. What an unhelpful, lazy flunky he is. - This item is Clearly Labelled this way on 3com's own pages.
I spoke with the Nintendo UK support manager again, and this was news to him! He didn't know what his people were doing or recommending or anything. He again tried to obfuscate the issue, blame his people, blame the USA. He doesn't read the forums because "we all have a hidden agendas" -- !!!! No wonder! Lazy worthless manager.
So, Nintendo UK will tell you Anything just to get you off the phone. Grrr.
Dear Customer, thank you for your e-mail.
It is not for me or anyone here to tell you how to set up a modem that
you chose from a list of others. Maybe reference to the instruction
manual that came with the router that you chose or check with the help
line supplied by the company who made the router you chose would help.
I can assure you that there are very many other people who also chose
this make and model of router who installed it and are running Mario
Kart on it without any of the problems that seem to be surrounding you.
...NB: note he used the word "assure" above, when if fact he has no idea!...
Kind regards,
Your Nintendo Team

A guy on another forum had some success with his Belkin router, which suffered the same cut-out problems by using this method:
Firstly look at your router setup page, prob 192.168.2.1
if you have a belkin, and look under DHCP clients
and write down the IP address assigned to your DS.
Then click start>run and type cmd in the box.
A black box will open and then type ipconfig/all.
A list will appear which will tell you your subnet mask,
gateway and DNS. Then in your DS wifi settings,
manually enter the IP address your router assigned to your DS,
the subnet mask, gateway and the DNS,
you can leave the second DNS empty.
He now connects fine and gets no cut-off, so I thought you might like to try it out!

That link will take you to the updated drivers for the dongle for the 13th of Jan in the top right-hand corner.
Firstly though, try checking if your internet connection is already being shared, as you can't share it again if it is! Right-click the connection from your network connections page and then go into properties followed by the advanced tab. Here is where your firewall settings should be and underneath that should be a few little boxes and a window with a list of possible connections which could be shared. Make sure the boxes are all unchecked before you try re-installing anything. If you're clear then you will have to try un-installing the reg. tool from your programs list or wherever you put it and re-install with the new drivers.
Check the bakground wizard and make sure YOU pick the correct location of the drivers under Nintendo WI-FI connector.

Hey all im getting same 52103 problem .. "connected to access point but unable to connect to the server" .. My computer doesn't connect directly to the net .. it goes thru another computer (which is connected to the net) .. My local firewalls have been disabled but firewall for network im not sure .. though don't think person that has it setup would like to disable any of it .. so are their any ways to get the problem fixed without disabling the firewall on the router ? thanks

I just got a 2nd PC and I don't know what it is exactly that I need to get connected. I know it will have to be wireless but I dont know what I need to buy. I was also gonna use the signal for my DS WIFI needs(MPH round the corner).
What do I need to buy?
What are the best routers around?
How do I need to connect this stuff?
Will my Internet speed (576 kbps) suffer because of this?
Can I use this stuff with AOL? (or do I need a special wireless server)
Will the Internet speed on the 2nd PC be slow. (Dial-up speed)
Thanks any help would be much appreciated.

1. You can either buy a wireless router or a Nintendo WiFi USB Dongle.
2. I use the NetGear WGR614 v6, which is nice.
3. If you buy a router then it should come with some ethernet cable, so you need to check the back of your computer to see if you have somewhere to plug in ethernet. If you buy the USB WiFi Dongle then all you need is a USB Port.
4. It will only be affected when you're actually playing online, but even then you probably won't notice much difference.
5. As far as I know AOL works, but some people have had a few problems. No you don't need a server, just your computer or a router.
6. It will only slow down whenever you're on your DS or someone's using the other computer, but still you probably won't notice a massive differnence unlesssomeone's downloading a large file on the other computer.
My setup is like this:
(Internet) > Modem > Router > (Computers and DS)

I went to PC world and asked about routers, the guy didn't seem to know much about the DS (he asked me if it had an ethernet port?), so i just said what i needed (802.11b), he ended up recommending me a Linksys WRT54GS, this isn't on the nintendowifi.co.uk compatability list (there are two whose model number end in "GX" and "GC" with 2 stars each but PCworld don't have those), but it is on router set-up part of the site (where it says how to set up different routers).
So, is there anyone out there using the Linksys WRT54GS? Does it work fine?

If it's wireless, it should work.
Demuwan: I came to the conclusion that error code 51300 means that your router/wireless card isn't compatible. I got that when using my PCI network card, then when I changed to a new router it worked fine. My Apple Airport card also worked.

Gah ... Me too. I have the exact problem. What I'm wondering is whether I will actually ever be able to connect, and also, whether this is all to the port permissions and stuff, which I don't reallly have any power over at all. x___X;;

To the ones that got disconnected 10 minutes after connection:
Set your router's wireless connection speed to 2Mbit/s and turn of that extra technology stuff some routers have, that augment the speed (like the g Nitro on SMC routers).
I had that disconnection problem and now it works like a charm.

If your talking about the same problem as hiyaz!~ its prolly something to do with the USB, have you tried turning off the firewall?
I doubt NTL could block Wifi connections as its a local product thing, i'd say if you can try return the USB and get a refund and look for a suitable Wireless router, i got a Belkin F5D7632-4, its a modem and router, was easy to set up and doesn't cost much, i got it for 100euro in PCworld and works fine

Hey guys. I just got my DS Lite, and now I'm getting 86420 errors. Unfortunately i traded in my old DS so I can't test to see if it's just my Lite.
I can connect fine to WFC, but when it trys to connect to other people, the little blips come up on the screen to show that theres a player, then they dissapear. (I had that prob with the original DS btw)
In AC:WW I try to connect to someone's town and Copper just tells me I had an error, which was 86420 :(
I have a Netgear WGR614v6 with the latest firmware. Anyone got any tips?

Can anyone solve this problem?
I have a DS Lite
I have a Netgear DG834G Router
I have the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector as well.
First things first. The DS Lite works fine with the DG834G Router when its on the WEP setting. The problem is that its always gonna be on the WPA setting for added security, considering other people in the house use it as well with various devices eg Laptops. If only the DS Lite supported WPA, there would be no problem in the first place.
So the only option is using the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector. I have installed it fine and the DS Lite easily connects to it. But when it performs a connection test to Nintendo WFC it always fails. My computer is currently protected with Norton Internet Security 2005. Ive figured out that the firewall is definitely blocking the Wifi Registration tool from allowing me to go online.
I can connect if I temporarily disable it, but doing this every time is a hassle. The only reasonable way is to configure the Firewall to authorise the program to access the Internet properly. That is done by going to the Firewall settings and then Program Control.
Now every time I try to add the WFC program to the list and permit full access, Norton Internet Security crashes! It just freezes on the menu its at and the application will not go away. It just stays there frozen. You cant close it at all, only a restart will clear it from the PC. Ive tried this multiple times and it always freezes.
If its actually able to allow full access to the program without crashing, then everything should work without disabling the Firewall each time first. Does anyone know how to sort this problem out?

I was having the application error again but this guys method worked for me
don't know if people know this already and if they do i will be kicking myself.
First you will need to uninstall your Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector. After completing uninstall, leave your setup disk in its tray and keep the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector plugged in to your computer. Go to your 'Start' menu and select 'Browse', select the installation disc then the "Nintendo WFC" and select the file, 'SoftAP'. Click on 'DEVREMOV.EXE'. There will be three prompts, select yes for the first prompt, then wait for the second screen to pass and then select "Ok".
Be sure you remove rt25usbap.sys and rt25usbap.inf (do a search for them and if you find them, remove them). That step made the difference for me.
After completing this, you will need to remove your Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector and restart your computer.
After restarting, these steps will allow your computer to share files and should resolve the "Internet Connection Sharing" problem.
Click on your Start menu and select Control Panel.
Click on "Network Setup Wizard".
Click next twice.
Select the second option which says "This computer and all other computers connect to the internet via a residential gateway".
The wizard then asks for a description of the computer and a name for the computer. Complete this information.
Click next again.
The wizard will ask for the workgroup that they want the computer to work with.
Select your standard workgroup, if you do not know, the default will work fine.
Click next.
Turn on file and print sharing on this screen, this will take a second to process and comes up with a warning box.
Click on "ok."
Click next twice.
Click on the option "Just finish the wizard" then click on next.
Click on Finish.
Reboot and then install the adapter again.
(on my computer, the "Network Setup Wizard" was found by clicking Start, then Programs, then Accessories, then Communications, then Network Setup Wizard)
and there we are worked fine for me hope it works for you.

I had the exact same problem as you. I have a different router, but i have NAV 2005. I found that is wasnt the firewall causing the problem, but the Internet Worm Protection.
Enable your firewall and disable your Worm Protection (momentarily) and see if you can connect.
If you can you can stipulate in the Worm Protection settings to allow Nintendo WFC full access thru the worm protection and you will have no problem.

If anyone can help;
We've got a LINKSYS Router now, and everything seems fine, but on testing the connection, after a full signal it suddenly says "Could not obtain IP adress"
Entering the address manually does nothing also.
Any thoughts?
Is the USB Connector good? I might get it.
I am currently at university in halls of residence. I connect my computer to the internet through a wireless connection, which is open. It does however have some security measures on it which I think stops the DS connecting to it. Firstly, when you connect your computer to it you have to put in your University ID and password, then it will download and run some software to make sure you have Anti virus, firewall, and up to date windows. It then verefies your MAC address.
I hope this is making sense, but basically I think all that is blocking the DS connecting to it.
Would buying one of the USB adaptors make me able to play online? or would it still encounter the same problems? I'm not sure how it would work, but maybe to the uni network it would look like just my computer, but really my DS is connecting.

I had the same problem. This is what I did:
Run DEVREMOVE and then restart your computer. Put your USB connector in. When windows show up a window that it found new hardware choose to search for the drivers by yourself and point to the map SoftAp and click ok. When the driver is installed run the setup while your USB connector is still in the pc. It doesn’t ask you to put your USB connector in. When that is done restart your computer. i am using pipex asdl broadband and mcafee firewall.
the connection works fine as long as the mcafee firewall is disabled, this gives me one of 2 questions for a possible solution:
1) can someone please tell me how to get mcafee to allow me to connect my wii to the internet with the mcafee firewall enabled?
or
2) can someone please give me a list of firewalls that'll allow my wii to access the internet? (firewalls only would be great, i propably will just use that firewall while my wii is hooked up and mcafee firewall all the other times). Free firewalls off the internet would be best.

Some smart person (my uncles mate) has decided to change the security of my router from WEP Security Encryption to WPA-PSK Security Encryption which blocks all Wi-Fi connections just to get my sisters laptop working on the network. And the other alternative to get on (the USB thing) doesn't work because i got a wireless router. So i can no longer go online on my DS until someone changes the encryption back and gets the laptop working with a WEP code.
Wait, i don't get it. You want to change it back to WEP encryption but you can't access your router's menu. Is that it?

Trying to hook up my 360 (Wireless networking adapter) to my Linksys Router...Not working.
Gets stuck when retrieving the IP address and such,...also gets stuck when entering the information manually. Any ideas? Looks like I just wasted £60.

Maybe on the pc that the router is you know, sorted on, you have to unblock some things? Maybe you should just email M$.
