Picture it: the land of Albion in the age of steam. Through the cobbled streets of its towns, crooked houses with slated roofs compete for the afternoon sun with angry eruptions of unlikely machinery, valves match steeples for control of the skyline, and oily goop drips into babbling brooks that run beside fields of already queasy sunflowers.
"You'll see new marvels of the industrial age, devices that the people of Albion are amazed by," enthuses art lead John McCormack. "Half of Bowerstone will be turned into this mass of pistons and steam and clockwork - everything's moving." You'll have to picture it for yourself at the moment, because these are early days for Fable III (a game which, even if it's a disaster, will probably go down in history as the best title ever accidentally announced on Twitter, by Jonathan Ross). Prototypes are up and running deep inside Lionhead's offices, but none of it's ready for the likes of us just yet, unless you're willing to move to Guildford, fake a CV and wing a job as an advanced AI programmer.
A recent chance to sit down with the designers and learn about the early stages of the game's development revealed no hints of Natal, no suggestions if the Milo experiments are bleeding in, no news on what's become of your dog or your trail of breadcrumbs, and no crazy schemes for online modes. The team is willing to give us a tantalising taste of what it is they want to do, but nobody's ready to reveal exactly how it's going to be done.
Instead, there are stories. Stories like this: Several months ago, no matter how many exactly, as Fable II was chugging nicely towards release, a small group gathered in a meeting room at Lionhead. They had come to decide what Fable III would be - and what it wouldn't be. It's a special moment for any game, but particularly poignant for this one: a series that hangs upon choices was having its own mechanics enacted in real life. Perhaps Peter Molyneux even kicked a chicken a good distance at some point during the discussion.
"We started to think about Fable III halfway through Fable II," says McCormack. "You're always thinking about the future, and because of the speed of the industry, you're trying to pre-empt any lag. You get to the end of a game, and hopefully you know what you're doing next already. It's really unfocused at this stage, though, because you don't want to tie yourself down too early. So what we do is we present Peter and the designers with a range of art, a range of things that Fable III could be - all the settings and eras and styles it could be. Anything that tickles your fancy. You put together what you think is a logical progression, but also what you think is a crazy progression, and let the designers and artists work together to choose the best one."
And what they chose, once again, is something of a mish-mash. "The entire Fable idea is a fairytale twist on European history and myth," says McCormack. "What we've settled on is to go about 50 years on from Fable II. So we've loosely chosen the Napoleonic period, and we've started to pull in a bit of Regency, a tiny bit of Victorian, and we're plugging in an early industrial age to Albion. It's a Napoleonic fairytale."
Ships and cannons and troops, metal and rivets and chattering pipework: Fable II was already a game built from details - anyone who ever stopped to watch the hot blast of animation thrown out whenever one of Albion's humble clockwork doors got ready to open will know that - and this tentatively mechanised environment is a proposition that sounds entirely fitting, even if it promises to significantly alter the familiar environments. "There's still a consistency," offers McCormack. "We never want to be photorealistic. The art style is: never put in straight lines, never use a right-angle, always break shades into opposing colours. There's rules within the art that hopefully turn it into a fairytale no matter where we go. I think we solidified the style with Fable II; with Fable III, we've nailed it.
"We've moved it forward. Think of the monsters: industrialisation has pushed the fairytale creatures underground, and to the edges of the forests. You'll go there, and they're still around, but they're not happy about it this time. Albion's still full of mystery and wonder, but it's more aggressive: the ancient creatures don't like to be shoved away."
The shift in period is not just an aesthetic choice, then: the landscape is telling a story, and the story itself is typically rooted in the series' fascinations with choices and morality. "There's some mad stuff coming in," laughs McCormack, unwittingly sketching designs in the air with his hand. "One of the main themes here is how the advancement of the new world is having an adverse effect on the beautiful lush environments of Albion. Industrialisation is changing Albion, and do you want to put a stop to that?"
Don't expect an easy decision, though: Lionhead isn't pretending that the wonders and horrors of the modern era aren't knotted tightly together. "We're interested in how industry can destroy nature, but also how it can create ships and balloons and cable-cars that take you farther afield and to other lands. It's about colonisation and travel as well. You're expanding the world by introducing industrialisation, but there's always that darker side, and that's war. You're producing war machines and militarising the population."
War? Sounds nasty. "I'm terrified," says Peter Molyneux, looking tanned, rested, and distinctly unterrified. "The third time out is tricky. This is where it could all go wrong." He leans back in his chair and spreads his arms wide, as if to show us there's nothing up his sleeves. "This is where it could all... go... wrong."
Can't wait to play the same game for the third time.

Personally I think it's too soon for them to be making another game. If they're already working on it, how much can it really have advanced over the last title, or its expansions? I want them to try and create something far bigger and better next time, but all I can imagine at the moment is a reskinned Fable II with a new story and steam everywhere. They need to take their time!

I liked Fable 2, but by the time the story got interesting, it finished. Other than that bit where you became an evil guard for a while, the story was pretty dull.

Not coming out til next year, I'd pen it for a Christmas release next year to be honest. Fable 2 was a great game so I'm hoping 3 expands on that. The whole ruler of Albion thing sounds awesome.
Woop! So theres more info coming out about Fable III, I couldnt get enough of the first two. Just hope moleyneux keeps his promises this time round.

Three major shifts in gameplay mechanics will make Fable III the most innovative entry in the popular role-playing game franchise, developer Peter Molyneux told a gathering of journalists today at Microsoft's X10 event.
Fable III will present three key changes in play: In-game touching, highly-customized weapon morphing and the challenge of ruling a kingdom. Molyneux demonstrated the game for Kotaku and other reporters at Microsoft's big X10 showcase in San Francisco. The event highlighted the Xbox 360's biggest 2010 games.
"You will start out the game as the 18-year old [child] of your Fable II character," Molyneux said. "You'll find that Albion is being ruled by a tyrant. You are going to storm the castle with all of the people who follow you you're going to take him down and then people are going to come to you and say, 'You promised you would eradicate slavery. You promised turn factories into orphanages. You promised to stop childhood labor'.
"We are going to make your time as a ruler a little bit tough."
Fable III will also include a major overhaul of the on-screen user interface. Molyneux said that he looked at first-person shooters for inspiration, admiring the way they can give information without numbers or graphs.
The look of Fable III we were given featured a screen entirely devoid of icons, maps or bars.
Fable III won't display experience points, Molyneux said. Instead your experience is shown by the number of followers you have, something dictated by your skill as a hero, a combatant, a ruler and a promise keeper.
Forget about a health bar, too. "We made the health bar one pixel and we thought, 'What are we doing man? No one is going to do that. Let's do what shooters do so well and make the world your health bar,'" Molyneux said.
Breakthrough One: Touching
The importance of context will also play a role in how you interact with the game's other characters as well, Molyneux said. Players will guide Fable III's hero, perhaps with wife, children and, yes, a dog, through the game, using a new context-heavy system that focuses on the player's character grabbing hold of non-player characters to interact with them.
The play mechanic is in part inspired by Ico's hand holding, Molyneux said as he pointed to the screen at an image of a young man running through a cobble-stoned street to a house.
"I live here with my wife," he said. "We allow you to get married again. You can have children again and a dog. The dog is much more dog-like... make sure your dog never sees a rabbit. The dog in Fable III hates rabbits."
The scene on the big screen television then shifts as the character runs through the town, following his dog as he "is scenting" your daughter.
Molynuex explains that his in-game wife is worried that their daughter has been kidnapped and has asked him to go get her.
In the live presentation, Molynuex's character finds her playing with other children in another part of town.
You can still use the directional pad to choose facial expressions to decide how to interact, in this case deciding whether to praise or scold your daughter.
"You tell her off and now we can take her home," Molyneux said. "In Fable II you press the A button. In III you use a trigger. When you press the trigger the most appropriate thing happens. This time you comfort her because she is upset. You pull the trigger again and you take her hand and guide her."
On the television the hero, holding his young daughter by the hand, gently leads her through the street.
"This is using all of our AI because it is highly context-sensitive," he said.
On TV, the hero tries to lead his daughter to a pub, but she pulls back, pointing out that her mom, your wife, had asked you to stop going to the pub.
"In creating this system I thought, how can I use touch to increase the drama. of a moment, especially if someone pissed me off," he said.
That could be done, Molyneux says, by allowing you to grab someone by the scruff of the neck and drag them down into your dungeon and throw them in.
Molyneux's character then walks up to a homeless man and takes him by the hand. The man follows, saying that he thinks he's taking him home for a dinner. Then the man stops in his tracks as they turn a corner and a factory looms ahead.
"We're going to sell him to the factory," Molyneux says.
The man, visibly frightened, begins to pull away, but the character continues to drag him to the factory.
The homeless man begins to beg, "Don't sell me to those fiends. You might as well put a bullet in my head."
Molyneux says all of the contextual touching will also work in cooperative modes, allowing you to interact with other players in the same way.
The co-op will also allow you to separate in game, he said.
"You could go off earning money, while I go off to kill people," Molyneux said.
"It's a true co-op experience."
Breakthrough Two: Weapon-Morphing
Another major new feature of the game is a tweak to morphing.
While a character's look will still morph to suit the gamer's play style, the way it happens has been completely overhauled. The game will also apply morphing to your weapon.
"Weapons morph from boring things when you first pick them up to really interesting things depending on the way you use them," he said.
The color, texture and what's written on them is controlled by what you kill with them. The size and length, sharpness and curvature is dictated by how often you fight and the duration of those battles. Whether a weapon drips blood or glow depends on if you kill innocent or evil people.
Finally, all of that is blended with your actual Gamerscore to create your weapon.
"So your weapon is completely unique to you," he said. "You can trade your weapon if you like. There will be thousands of totally unique weapons in the game.
On screen, characters fight in caverns, the dungeons of Fable III. One begins to glow, sprou
Breakthrough Three: Kingdom-Ruling
While the ability to rule kingdom and act on your impulses, for the good or the bad, is an important part of Fable III, it only comes into play about halfway through the game, Molyneux said.
And don't worry, he added, it won't make the game a real-time strategy title.
"I love the idea of the map in an RTS," he said. "But I don't want the mechanic of an RTS, all I want is its sense of power."
One way Fable III does that is by allowing players to pass judgments as law, changing the fabric of the kingdom.
"Conventionally, a game is all about a hero's journey," he said. "You start weak and build up your power, take on the bad guy and then the credits roll.
"We decided why stop there."
Key to the second half of the game is carefully balancing your need to attract followers with promises, and the followers insistence that you keep your promises.
"On the journey to becoming king... the temptation is to promise everything," he said. "Then you become king and you realize, 'Oh shit baby, this is not so simple.
"Look at Obama. He came into power and promised to shut down Guantanamo Bay. It should have been easy, pick up the phone and close it, but it isn't."ting fiery red wings and horns as he swings a sword into people. Another character sprouts glowing blue wings.
Another character hoists an axe straight up in the air above his head, spinning around twice before leveling the axe and tearing into an enemy.

So after all that, anyone else lookin foward to this? I cant wait :)

Breakthrough One: Touching
In the first example, the main character — the son of the hero from the last game — was wandering around town looking for his young daughter. When he finds her, the context-sensitive “touch” action (controlled by one of the Xbox 360’s trigger buttons) lets him pick her up and toss her playfully into the air. As they walk home, the “touch” button lets him hold her hand.
No HUD:
In a video interview earlier this month, Molyneux said players would be “pissed” to hear about one of Fable III’s features. What’s the scoop? There’s no health bar, he said. In fact, there’s no heads-up display elements on the screen at all.
“Look at the screen!” Molyneux gushed, gesturing at the monitor like Vanna White. “It’s completely clean! Why do we need the fucking health bar?”
Instead of having a bar to show the player’s remaining health, Fable III will take cues from action games, not RPGs, and have environmental graphic changes that show that you’re close to death.
What, I asked, about other such menus and gauges?
“The 2-D parts of Fable 1 and Fable 2 were rubbish,” he responded. “That’s why people didn’t change their clothes, or change their weapons.” In Fable 3, he said, he’s looking to make that character-customization busywork “part of the game.”

No HUD is not that revolutionary... and what does he mean nobody changed their outfits or weapons in Fable 2?
What Fable 3 really needs is the ability to have "back-up" saves for when you encounter game-destroying bugs (if it does exist in Fable 2, then it's really well hidden).

Both are incredibly disappointing compared to the way they were originally described before they came out. (See the doodle Dante posted, it's pretty damn accurate).
But they're also both good games. Fable will feel very dated now though. You could easily skip to the second.
Play the second, its such a nice lookin game, quite easy to play, its just a game you can relax on! I spent so many hours craftin me hero to perfection. Realllly love that game lol, iv got a completely perfect and completely evil character ready for the third, cant wait >:)
Also, its girlfriend friendly ;)
Im happy they're going to make it true co-op, the last one was so dissapointin with co-op, 2 players crammed into a screen, camera would fuck up, always stoppin one player from goin too far away, REALLLY annoyin. I hope on this 2 players can just explore the world together over live and do anythin, go anywhere, not be restricted to stay with your other person.
Another thing i like the sound of is the dog, acting more like a dog, i wanna see it hunt down some rabbits n rip their guts out, which apparently it will... maybe not the guts tho

Shorty is right, you can miss out Fable and move right into the second title. I did this, but i did go back and play the first title. It was so dated, sluggish and all that.
The third title does look promising. Finally being able to rule the kingdom, hopefully with more choices to make. I am thankful that the co-op will be improved upon this time around.

GDC: Designing Fable III - New details on the upcoming non-RPG. (http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/107/1076735p1.html)
As he traditionally does, Peter Molyneux, the father of Fable and creative lead for Microsoft Game Studios Europe, took the stage at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco to give a lecture. This year the title of the talk was The Complex Challenges of Intuitive Design, a discussion on how to make games more immediately accessible to all everyone without "dumbing them down." Joining Molyneux in the talk was Peter Atkins, lead designer on Fable III.
Much of the talk felt like a repeat of the recent X10 demo, which you can read all about in our most recent preview. Now, however, Molyneux gave some context as to why Lionhead is making such drastic changes to an established franchise. He began by talking about the RPG genre as a whole, essentially writing it off as being too limiting. "The RPG market is limited by core gamers," Molyneux said. While Fable 1 sold about 3 million and Fable 2 sold 3.5 million copies, the goal for Fable III is to move into the upper echelon of hit games with sales of over 5 million. For that to happen, the franchise would have to target the larger action-adventure genre.
Molyneux outlined the thought process as a series of questions. "What if we moved Fable towards an action-adventure? What would that mean? What would we lose and what would we gain?" Provided the core elements of Fable still exists – listed as Morphing, choices with consequence, drama, emotion, and accessibility – would it really change the game that much?
Fable III is doubling down on these core elements, while removing many of the more traditionally "hardcore" elements. The combat has been streamlined, taking inspiration from studios like Team Ninja (of Ninja Gaiden fame) and Santa Monica Studios (known for God of War). The drama is being improved with a new "touch" system for interacting with non-player characters, drawing inspiration from Ico. The health bar has been done away with, inspired by what has become the standard in first-person shooters. Even the idea of leveling up and gaining experience is being overhauled.
"Surely, we had to keep experience. Experience for role-playing games is a massive thing. I began to realize that experience is all about combat, but the Fable world is much bigger than that." You don't get experience for getting married, or farting on someone, Molyneux noted. The replacement is a system of followers. The goal of Fable III is to first recruit an army and then overthrow a tyrant king. That's only the halfway point, however. From there, you'll have to rule a kingdom. "Everything you do, however trivial or noble or wonderful, results in you gaining or losing followers." Get married to the right person, you get more followers. Make a promise to a certain town that you'll tear down a polluting factory, and you'll win their trust. Of course, making certain judgments, as the system is called in Fable III, might have consequences.
Molyneux then teased that your followers might even be affected by things outside of the game. He noted that he currently has a lot of followers on Twitter and finds that very intriguing. Will Twitter be integrated into Fable III? Or will the number of people on your friend's list affect your followers? It's an intriguing concept, but we'll have to wait and see what this tease means.
The most interesting part of the talk came when Molyneux spoke about how Lionhead planned to simplify the user interface for more accessibility. You'd be hard pressed to find anybody that enjoyed the item management system in Fable II, and Molyneux agrees that it needed fixing. During the talk we got our first look at how Fable III is taking the majority of the 2D interface and placing it in the 3D world.
For something like changing clothes, you'll go into a wardrobe closet to view each costume you have (and a butler voiced by John Clease will help you out). With the touch of a button you can swap to a new look. Or, you can angle the camera down to simply change pants. The same goes for dying your clothes, allowing for the same amount of customization as you got in Fable II without all of the clutter.
We also got a look at the new map interface. There's a war room of sorts where you can walk up to a map table and peer down on it. This allows you to scroll around the top of a map and look at all of the areas. Using a magnifying glass, you can peer down into each area and town. The kicker is that the simulation of the town is still going on, so you can see all of the people walking around going about their business in a simplified 3D world. I even saw Molyneux zoom further in to a single house where he could see his in-game wife and kids, and interact with them. Molyneux teased that, though it wouldn't be similar to an RTS, this map could be used for sending troops around the world once you are king or queen.
Peter Atkins primarily spoke about the combat mechanics of Fable III. While he didn't divulge any new details, he did defend the difficulty of Fable II when he let everybody know that, though some cried out that the game was too easy, that was the intention. The goal, he noted, was to make the player feel powerful and not to use old-school arcade balancing curves. "Is Fable too easy? That's a tough thing to figure out…It really is built around feeling powerful…[It's]balance to create an emotional experience. We want you to feel powerful but we also want you to care."
During the question and answer session at the end, Molyneux declined to close off hopes of Fable III coming to PC. "I would love to see the Fable franchise on the PC," he said. However, he noted that it would have to be "awesome." He also refused to confirm a new version of the popular Fable Pub Games, though he did say that Lionhead likes the idea of importing and exporting data from games and that we should, "expect some surprises there."
I really cant wait for this lol, i thought Fable 2 was easy, but i enjoyed it so much, i loved being stronger than everyone, and makin my hero look like a king, the combat didnt bother me too much. The magic attacks gave me a feelin of power, when you got your 5star fire attack and it just fucked up everything around you, it was a beast.

I see it the same as banks who offer introductory offers to new customers when it should be their loyal customers they should be rewarding.

UK gamers now have access to the Fable III villager maker, according to Lionhead (confirmed at the Gamecon venue i believe). Should be interesting, even has 2 other pieces of pre-order stuff for both the Limited and Standard editions, being a Tatoo and a new Weapon (large hammer of sorts).
Anyone else see the Gamecon piece on Fable yesterday??, even though it was only 10 minutes it was informative i thought.
It will be interesting what arcade game they have planned, and if it will be interactive into Fable III like Pub games was with Fable II
The Fable 2 Pub Games glitch was great, getting to start the game with a lot of money :)

Haha, excellent. Liking the "Predator" styled achievement as well. As always, Lionhead have a sense of humour.
I see i shall be spending a lot of time in Albion/Aurora. And this time around, i will attempt a 100% completion (unlike Fable II)
Edit: Just seen the "Trading" achievement. Crap, just as long as it isn't 1 per game.
It seems that the "Pub Games" for this Fable is a mobile game. It's a real-location game (i.e. using the gps on your phone to "claim" land) and will only be available in Europe.
Android version is out sometime today. iPhone version in a couple of days and a Windows Phone 7 version will be out when the Windows Phone 7 is out.
I don't know if it'll cost anything, but I'll give it a try.

I still haven't actually finished Fable II.
Still want this though. Shame about the smartphone app, as I'm barely rocking polyphonics, so meh.

I had a tweet from GAME saying that the pre-order bonus's are for both versions, and that they are available in-store as well as online.
Just in case you wanted to know.
I've had a CE version on order for 2 months now, only problem is i have to go into town to get it. It's funny really, as GAME on-line don't seem to accept my card/the bank refuses to allow payment through.
And Amazon don't seem to get my DVD/Blu-ray pre-orders to me on time, so i don't trust them with a game pre-order. Thats my own opinion though, could be different with yourself Murr.

The app is really badly made and doesn't work at all.
See i've been searching for Fable3 in the app store, i assume that this is wrong as i'm not finding anything.
do i need to be searching Kingmaker?
Just search for "Fable" on the Android Market and you should be able find it.
It's due on the App Store tomorrow. Hopefully they'll fix the server issues soon.

The only drag i found with Fable II was reaching the maximum experience levels just to get the achievement. It did lag as well, plus getting the co-op achievements without a microphone was horrendous.

I'm glad Eurogamer gave it a high review I'd have to go curse them otherwise! ^_^
I'm going to buy the collectors edition on amazon I think, damn it all.
CLOSING COMMENTS
I found Fable III to be a lot of fun, which is ultimately the most important thing you could ask of a game. It has its shortcomings -- a few technical bugs occasionally rear their ugly faces and the disjointed design stunts some of the more emotional moments -- but all told it’s a great game that is well worth your time and money.
This is a massive game, and yet it remains accessible to gamers of all skill levels. That in itself is a pretty special achievement. Tack on a solid combat system, an immersive world, and decisions with real consequences, and you’ve got a game that just about anybody can enjoy.
8.5 Presentation
The injection of politics makes for decisions with real consequence and adds weight to an otherwise superficial story. Wonderfully accessible.
8.0 Graphics
A pleasant look and excellent art style. Some visual hiccups.
9.0 Sound
The voicework is quite fantastic. The repetitive combat sounds are not.
8.5 Gameplay
Easy to play, yet very deep. Fable III offers fun to all.
8.0 Lasting Appeal
If you like collecting things, you've got a lot to look forward to. I do wish the section where you play as king was longer.
8.5 OVERALL - Great

1UP - B+ (http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3182073&p=4)
GameInformer - 9.0 (http://gameinformer.com/games/fable_iii/b/xbox360/archive/2010/10/26/one-hero-to-rule-them-all.aspx)
The story is grim at times, but that’s not to say that it isn’t also one of the funniest games of the year. The writing is top notch, and there are at least three or four quests that rank among my favorite missions I’ve ever played. One highlight has the hero joining in a bickering trio’s Dungeons & Dragons-type game, complete with hoary descriptions and every RPG cliché you can imagine. Other times you might be asked to break up a doomed marriage or even try your hand at acting. You’ll find plenty of variety and choices to make.
Even after you “beat” the game, new quests, locations, and characters open up. And those decisions you made as king? They’ll affect the way the world looks and behaves, too. Without spoiling anything, [spoilers]. From raising a family, becoming a land baron, and even partnering up with friends locally or online, this is the most fully realized version of Albion yet. It’s a must-play for fans of adventure or anyone who thinks they can run things better than those bums in Washington. Good luck.
GiantBomb - 3/5 (http://www.giantbomb.com/fable-iii/61-27878/reviews/)
I was willing to forgive all those interface issues as long as I was enjoying the adventure on offer in Fable III, which I really was for most of the game. But there's a significant shift in the storyline and, consequently, the game mechanics in the last few hours of the game, once your revolution succeeds and you take the throne, that alters the tone and the pacing of what you're doing. You're still getting to hack up hobbes and hollow men, and completing quests in exotic lands, but there's an extra layer of responsibility on top of that which feels like it introduces more urgency into the Fable experience than I'm comfortable with. And when I finally felt like I had a handle on the new stuff that was going on, I got dragged without warning past the point of no return, into a lackluster endgame scenario before I'd had time to finish up all the business I knew I wanted to take care of. Not finishing those few tasks significantly affected the way my ending turned out, and left my version of Albion in such a state that, despite having a stack of side quests and achievements to finish up, I kind of don't ever want to visit it again. I know this sounds like the world's vaguest complaint (getting more specific would require me to detail most of the story's major plot points), but the way the game wrapped up in the last few hours really lessened my experience with the package as a whole.
Sounds worrying about the game ending.

Indeed, it does look great. Beats the Fable II co-op down to the floor and doesn't let it get up. I think this is one reason why Molyneux said Fable II was a glitched mistake, he and Lionhead are trying to make up for the fact Fable II was glitched, had crap co-op and crashed consoles.
Yes, Fable II was a good game and i was pleased to have played that game.

Il post some snaps later, just got mine now. Along with all the pre order bonuses inc villager tool codes.
I like Game, always giving me extra. With trade ins, i payed £20 for all.
Nice :D
I love it, so pretty, I was giggling badly when I got it this morning, it's cost me a fortune (£52) but it's totally worth the extra bit for everything.
So.... What are these 'packs' im reading about on websites...
Landlord Pack
Family Pack
etc etc.....

You get them in the Road to Rule. The family pack lets you marry and have children and the landlord lets you buy houses.

Anyway, here are the snaps of me unboxing it all.

Village Maker code worked first time, i know of people whose codes didn't work. I probably won't meet my villager until Brightwall anyway, thats where i said she was born.
Wow. Even after those pictures, the stuff managed to spoil me. The quality of everything is superb.

Damn you people for making this sound good! I can't really afford it and really shouldn't buy it given the amount of work for Uni I have to do... but I think I'll go and buy it tomorrow when I'm out. :nono: I really must stop spending money.
okay so some probably stupid questions regarding the collectors content...
1.“A new quest: Uncover the mystery of the haunted forests of Silverpines and earn the legendary sword, Wolfsbane, deadly against wolves and balverines
-- So i guess this comes along throughout progressing along the towns / locations etc.... ????
2. location: Unlock a new region, ideal for settling down with a family and discovering new treasures.
-- same as above??
3. One unique outfit: Unearth one male and female outfit from the mysterious, faraway land of Aurora, a new destination in your “Fable III” adventures.”
-- also same as above...
see i thought all the goodies would be available from the off like fable 2, but i assume this isnt the case?
or.... am i doing something wrong? (yes i've redeemed the codes, and downloaded the items.) I've got the highlander outfit... dont know if thats actually collectors DLC though?

I think i ought to stop spending so much myself, just these past 2 days i've spent £140 on stuff.
And for them people who havn't got it yet, well. Its excellent, well worth the wait for it.
First thoughts, well. Remember the player movements in FII. Well, they've been improved drastically. Moves more fluid than ever.

Does the character actually walk this time or does he/she still move about as though they're running around on ice? While it didn't annoy me in FII, it did feel very strange that it played like that.

First impressions
- The movement is better
- The options are a lot better, I find it's more fun to choice to be good or evil
Con
- The dog is still slightly all over the place.

Fable III is awesome! :D I've barely played it... well a couple of hours but I'm taking my time and it's just so much better than Fable II in terms of improvements that have been made.
Oh yeah... I completed Fable II - about fucking time right? - as well lol and yes... I got all three choice achievements the immoral - or should that be sensible? - way (dashboard, then rinse, repeat) as one playthrough is enough for me.
Fortunately the achievements in Fable III seem to be more geared towards doing everything in one playthrough... well... one thorough playthrough, which is just how I like it, single player bliss :) the added decent co-op is just the cherry on an already lavishly iced cake as far as I'm concerned. ^^

Well done for FINALLY beating Fable II.
I agree with you, with Fable III being so much better than II. When i played II, it was a good game but something wasn't quite right about it and i couldn't put my finger on it. It seems that Fable III has this thing fixed, of which i couldn't figure what it was but i know it's been fixed. (if you get what i am saying)

Pretty much everything about this game is all-round awesome atm though there are a few small technical negatives such as the dog being all over the place still - as you mentioned Wolfy - I feel that could have been solved by using the 'back' button to warp your dog to your side - like in the 'bodged' Fable II co-op mode - which would have at least meant that if your dog kept falling off the edge of some land and into the water that you could quickly rectify the problem.
The other thing is that the game seems to 'hiccup' rather infrequently possibly due to the immense amount of 'stuff' that it has to load, I'm installing the game now in the hope that this will lessen the problem.
Other than that though, much fun is currently being had. :)

Does being evil limit what you can do? In my opinion being evil in Fable II wasn't worth it. I want to be an evil king without being avoided by my citizens or having trouble getting quest and dates from ordinary people. If I want to be evil, should I avoid all "good" quest?

I know that. I'm just two gates away from ruling the kingdom myself. I'm saying you might have to be king and then marry. King Henry VIII didn't marry his six wives as a prince you know. And the achievement says "as ruler". But I don't know, maybe it works anyway.

I have to say I love this game, the story is great, the characters are lovely and the road to ruin is by far the best way to level I've seen.
My only con right not is there is no inventory, trying to keep/make a character eat and therefore make he/she thin is hard!
I also would like to know - I bought a book for my dog, how do I use it? I can't even seem to access it unless I go to a pawnbroker.
also I am now Queen - yay! But I'm curious, I forgot how much money I need to get? Also when you aren't doing your chores at the palace do the days that pass in between those (say you spend 5 days making pies) count towards the final year?

I finished the main story ten minutes ago as good, I'm not really sure what to think, I'm pretty sure I like it, but as no-one has really any info online it's hard to get questions answered. I may play co-op this week and re-play as evil as see how it goes.

Bought this yesterday and have played a little bit of it (about 2 and a half hours). Just left Brightfall to go to the mercenary place. Enjoying it so far and while there are clear improvements over the second one, there are plenty of problems with this. The frame rate issues I can deal with, although there have been some truly bad ones so far, but it's the constant pop-in of graphics that's beginning to bug me. That and constantly snagging on bits in the environment.
And I'd like to know: does anyone else's 360 sound like it's trying to chew their Fable 3 disc when they load it up? When I first put the game in last night, I thought that it was literally chewing the disc to shreds. Sounded like an electric drill drilling into the world or something. Really loud and it's not a problem with the console as every single other game I have boots up normally and gets nowhere near this loud. Similarly, the disc is fine so I don't know why it's doing that.
And one last thing: The one where you choose either Elise or the other people to be executed. What did everyone else pick? I picked Elise but for some reason wish I hadn't. I'm guessing he is now dead or does she reappear later in the game when you overthrow your brother? Did that choice last night before heading to bed and I've been mulling over whether I should have chosen differently, even though I presume I chose the good-guy option
Jimbob

I don't have the issue of the disk churning, as i installed it on the HDD.

IGN Editoral on Fable III fails. (http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/113/1130705p1.html)
That's probably the biggest disappointment in game design terms in Fable III, but it's by no means the only one. Let's go through a few. The conversation system has taken a big step back and is now – frankly – laborious and clunky. You must actually enter into conversation now, instead of just performing emotes in front of people, and the timing system from the last game has been replaced by a very plain mechanic that requires no skill. There's less choice, it's less interesting, it's not as well designed and it actually feels far less social. Dealing with people in general has been dumbed down too. Sure, you can still get basic stats on each person, but the more involved information from the last game are nowhere to be seen.

I found my disc drive is failing, it took me 20minutes to get any game to load..I finally managed to get fable loading to complete it.
My review of fable 3 won't be complete until I get to the rest of the areas, make a family, enough money and get the DLC.
When you choose to be good in the end and you manage to kill quite a few of the townsfolk..do they repopulate eventually? My town is quite empty..

I'm taking my sweet time on this, practically seeing what this game has to offer. Exploring every single nook and cranny, just like i did in Fable II. Learning where things are, and all that.
Got myself a little fortune, from both houses and shops. And of course, jobs. Loving the new way to complete jobs as well, much more interesting to complete. I'm currently
In Bowerstone Industrial, just past the Reaver encounter but before finding the Bowerstone revolution. Doesn't Morrowmind Woods remind you of Westcliff, well it does for me anyway. And i'm married, with a child. Wife's location, Brighthall.
Anyone else liking
The Pawnbrokers being what seems to be the only way to sell stuff. And the new lay-out to the shops as well.
As i said, i'm not rushing this, even though i know i'm not even at the half-way mark yet.

Patch coming: (http://lionhead.com/blogs/fable_2_development/archive/2010/10/31/some-fable-updates.aspx)
I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend, be it because you're celebrating Halloween (PUMPKIN TIME!!) or because you've locked yourself indoor with your videogames and bought the supplies to last you. I'm playing Fable III (obviously) but also some Medieval Total War II and Game Dev Studio on my iPhone. Yesterday I made an amazing vanilla custard pudding. Anyway, I'm drifting off...
So Fable III has been out a week / couple of days now (depending on where you live) and hopefully you're having a blast with it! Our forums have been on fire since the last week; the posting of reviews, reactions and impressions, other folk are looking for hints and tips (I've spend the whole day searching for gold keys today, already have 3!) and of course as with any videogame there are some people with technical issues. That's bound to happen of course with a game the size of Fable, our poor testers worked flat out but if something slips through the nets, then don't panic!
We've set up this reporting page where you can fill out a short form with a description of your problem. Please be aware we are monitoring this on a daily basis and the test, development and community teams meet on a regular basis to try and repro issues that come up, so the development team can fix it for the next update we'll release. There is no ETA on this, seeing as the process of game development is a slow, long and lonely one, so please bear with us. I hope to be able to update you in the near future. If you do experience a corrupt save game and there is no work around, then all I can personally recommend you do is start a new game and apologize for any stress this might cause. We really do feel for you if this happens!
Please don't spam the forums with issues you've encountered, if you fill in a form it will get looked at! Also some things aren't "bugs" or "glitches" so don't presume automatically something is wrong.
Other people have been asking about Kingmaker gold (or why they currently can't log in to their Kingmaker account), so some tips and updates on that as well.
* First of all, we’re aware that the Kingmaker App is currently not allowing players to log-in. This SHOULD NOT affect your ability to transfer any Gold you have previously earned in Kingmaker. We are working feverishly on this issue and it should be fixed soon.
* Ensure you have linked your Xbox LIVE account to your Kingmaker account. Go to www.Fable3Kingmaker.com, log in with your Kingmaker username and password, then click the ‘Profile’ link on the left hand side (under your coat of arms). Then select ‘Link my Fable III: Kingmaker account to my Windows LIVE account’.
* Once you’re sure your accounts are linked, start playing Fable III. You will not receive your Kingmaker Gold until you have played a little while into the main game – specifically (mild spoiler warning), you will need to have defeated Saker in the Mercenary camp and returned to Brightwall, then met up with Sir Walter in the pub again.
* At this point Jasper will call you back to the Sanctuary to explain how you can help villagers. It’s at this point that you should see a gift waiting for you on the gift pedestal (to the left of the Sanctuary, right next to your dog’s basket).
* Approach the gift (which should say that it’s from Lionhead) and press A to receive it – the Gold will then transfer into your in-game account!
* If you do not see the gift at this point try continuing until you are back in Brightwall, then press Start agai to return to the Sanctuary and look for the gift again.
* Next - get out there and spend all your lovely Gold!
* Once we have the Kingmaker app allowing log-ins again you will be able to continue earning Gold in Kingmaker until January 1st and it will transfer to your Fable III game every Monday. Again, you will see the Gold appear as a gift in the Sanctuary.
We truly hope that helps you get your hard-earned Gold. We’re working hard to get the Kingmaker App up and running again and once it is you will be able to continue earning Gold by planting flags and finding treasure.
Thanks for your patience and for supporting Fable III and Kingmaker!

I finally got time to fire this up this morning and so far im enjoying it.
I decided to play as a female character so people could get the co-op achievements ( get married, have a kid ) but then I realised you probably could do this with 2 male characters, this being Fable and all. Still, I stuck with being female and set off on my quests.
I've just got to the section where the sidequests have been explained by Jasper, so there's still a looooooooong way to go.
I accidently jumped into Linkified's ( ZeldaFreak ) game. I couldn't figure out how to quit so I just had to dashboard my xbox. I apologised to him and he was kind enough to send me so grain and potatoes. :D

I'll be writing a review for my blog this weekend when I have a little more time to finish things off but so far..
Pros:
- The storyline is brilliant, I love the characters and how in-depth being a queen/king gets
- The road to rule is a great way to level, I love how the chests worked and I definitely thought the characters as ghosts as you travel are a nice touch.
- The new areas, everything looks shiny/dull depending on the industrial and whatnot
- The monologue is dirtier, funnier and down right awesome
- The characters look better
- The housing system/ buying system is good - I like that I can now repair any damage to houses
- The new mini-games are better, I like that you press different buttons rather than just one
Cons:
- It can be glitchy, they obviously have a few issues as it's been mentioned there is a patch to fix certain things on the way.
- I don't like that the weight of my character hasn't changed from fat since I've eaten about 50 pieces of celery..whether that's a glitch or not I don't know
- I sort of feel it was too short a story, but comparing it to Fable 2 it's about the same.
- The ending, although good I stupidly did this:
I was good as my queen, I knew this would leave me with hardly any money but I would be popular. In the end this kills quite a lot of my town, so my town is pretty vacant and those left hate me. So recently I turned evil and started killing everyone haha.
- The dog is still a pain, sometimes it wanders round for about 20 minutes trying to find it's dig spot, specially the one near hunter's lodge.
Overall although I preferred it to Fable 2 I would say there is a vast room for improvement, I have heard that there will be a lot of DLC and patches for it, so hopefully instead of trying to churn out Fable 4 they'll focus on fable 3 for quite a while.
I've heard that in the earlier stages of the game it's worth trying to earn alot of money / invest in properties for income.....for future decisions (if you're choosing the good path?)
is that something worth considering? if that's the case i'll get my pie making on get me some properties.

If you want to be an all good king you should have _a lot_ of money ready before becoming a king. If you don't , you have to make some hard decisions to get the money from elsewhere. But you don't have to be an evil king if you don't farm money beforehand, you just have to prioritize some things over others, make some people very happy and some not.
I want to be liked by those people who I want to spend most time with, the people of Bowerstone areas. So I pick the good choices for them and then collect money from the people living elsewhere, such as making the people of Aurora slaves.

After feeling weird about that first big decision you make, I started again, opted differently and I'm now supposed to be on my way back to Dweller's Camp after getting the people of Brightfall on my side, but I'm going to hang around there more and finish off the quests available.
Had a nice little surprise when I opened the silver key box in Brightfall though. 50k gold. Score! Needless to say, I've bought pretty much all of the property and rented it out, bar one which is housing a wife and kid. Still need to get the Entreprenuer pack which I'll hopefully find next time I venture into the Road to Rule as I've only been in twice so far and both have been when the game makes you go in. I've been too busy collecting guild seals.

Have you had the occurance when the sceen goes grey, that is when the game has made me return to the road.
I have 3 doors left to go through, 2 before the castle itself. I feel as if the game is rushing me to get through the doors, and i am compelled to not let it rush me.
Anyone else having trouble with the flit-switch in Driftwood. Having completed a quest to expand Driftwood onto the islands (of which i am convinced it is the old Brightwood, some very obvious clues lie within (well, if you look at the FIII map and the FII map, there is a difference in size. Like, where the heck has Bloodstone, Brightwood, Westcliff and Wraithmarsh gone. My guess is flooding/global warming)). I saw the switch near the shop caravan, hit it a few times and now it appears on a rock which is on a ledge i cannot reach. I heard there is further quests to expand Driftwood, and allows me to get that switch.
Also, anyone who had purchased the Limited Edition. Have you done the Silverpines quest for the Wolfsbane Sword. Looks friggin sweet when it morphs, that is what i say to that. The quest wasn't too bad, took me 20 minutes. Liking the more power it gives compared to the Hero Sword.
do you think it'll be possible to get all 3 achievements for killing 500 people by magic, guns and melee attacks?
I've just done the magic one, and am about 100 into the guns one. And i'm at the part where i've just got to fort mortar.

I got the gun and magic before becoming king and the sword while I was a king.
The gun achievement is easy if you wait until later in the game or do a spesific sidequest where you both will meet hordes of easy enemies

I'm pretty much purchasing all shops before moving into the real-estate areas. Reasonings, it gives me more income to be able to play with and be able to pay to fix properties. Earning a nice 13,800 income from shops (and i've got all the big ones still to buy, the small ones are mine so far with 2 pubs and a few main places in Bowerstone). Got 2 places left to buy in Brightfall, and about 4 or 5 in Bowerstone. Then the real-estate.
As i heard about needing a hefty amount of gold for the latter part, i thought it would be in my interest to get the majority of that gold now before i become King. Because i've decided i'll be keeping to the promises i have/will be making to the people of Albion. Hey, they supported me in my progress to becoming King so the least i can do is give back to them.

You don't have to earn all the money before becoming a king unless you plan to rush through that stage. A couple million will do if you plan to do sidequests and achievement gathering at the same time. Alltogether I estimate you need about -9 million
I could be an all good king if I wanted to, but I wanted to make Mourningwood really pay for having to walk the length of Russia everytime I have a mission there. Also had some fun with Aurora

Im on doing the same at the moment. I've found that the Blacksmith level 5 minigame is a great way to build up a fair bit of cash, once thats done I bought alot of shops and houses and watched the cash pour in. I still have ALOT more to buy but im getting there. :D
I read an achievement guide and it said that if you want to be a good king and help everyone you need 6-7 million. Thats gonna take me a while...
Im really enjoying the game alot, probably more than I did the second one. There's just so much to do and collect, at times I get kinda lost as to what I should do next.
The only complaint I have is that the gold line still knacks up sometimes, which ends up sending me off in the wrong direction or it just doesn't show up at all.
Tales

The gold line must be one the most broken gameplay element ever. Once it wanted me to go to Bowerstone Market, then to the castle, then back to the market and so on.
But I have noticed if you run into enemies or do something else so the line disappears, you can make it come back if you run into more enemies or do something else like digging. Think it works if it doesn't show up to begin with, so just run in the direction you think you need to go until it comes back. Don't follow the line that appear behind you when you run, it's usually not that way.
EDIT: Is anyone interested in helping me with all the online achievements? I need to buy an one-month card to get online. Last time I bought it online(for Fable II) I had it for well over year more than planned because I couldn't be bothered to make the call. Not doing that again. Also I can't play online and be online on my computer at the same time and I don't have a headset.

Anywho
Just did Aurora, thought i'd get a break after each new gatherer to be honest. But it seems not, i am in the midst of the Albion battle taking over and becoming King. I know i can postpone the end of the game, by not completing the check-list. Of which i think i shall, in order to gain more funds to make Albion a better place. Plus i have 11 chests to open on the Road still. And i will do that btw, before i finish the game.
Yeah, the gold line is damn annoying. Had a fetch quest to do. It told me to go to Millfields, which i did. Then it turned me around and took me back to Bowerstone Industrial. Then back to Millfields, twice before letting me finish the quest required.

Tell me about it. I was trying to get one of the rare books for Samuel and the gold line just disappeared. It then reappeared so I followed it only for it to stop and then lead me back the way I came! I still haven't found the book yet. :(
Im now the ruler of Albion and having bought nearly, if not all, the houses and shops im just sitting back and watching the cash roll in. I will wait til I have about 7-8 million and then get to fulfilling all of the promises I made. :D
How's everyones Legendary Weapons collection going? It would be great if we could all put all of our weapons together at some point and dish the achievement out for each other.

I'm working on this quest now, between doing the Henry VIII and Chicken King achievements.
I am now officially King of Albion. One of my friends has gifted me 9 million gold, of which i didn't know. Reason why i didn't know
I was busy fighting in Bowerstone, then opening Demon Doors before i went back to the Sanctuary. There was no need, there was a map in the Castle i could use.
I sent 8 million back, and raised the rest myself. I got enough to full-fill my promises now. And, found the hidden gold key and have a new, more powerful Sword. More powerfull than the Wolfsbane i must say.
Anyone want to do some co-op achievements later??

Anyone else's partner died
You move them into the castle. I did a quest to get the huge diamond, got a sewage works built and allowed more alcohol in town. Next thing i know, a message comes up saying "Your wife has died, and your kids are sent to an orphanage". What, how did she die?. I never killed her. I wouldn't have minded, but this was my created villager.
Funny thing is, your kids are in the orphanage. They even have the dummies above their heads so you know they are yours. Then i go to adopt then again once i got a new wife, and they are gone.

I was very surprised when I entered the orphanage. I had a little girl with someone over Xbox Live fairly early in the game. We got divorced straight away (they were spending all our money on stupid things).
After I finished the game, I discovered the orphanage. To my surprise...the little girl I had earlier was there. I adopted her straight away.

On Topic - I'm still not ruler yet, i'm doing my utmost to own every property before becoming King, i want that 6.5m or what ever the figure is in order to fulfil all my promises.
Also does saving that much money, and fulfilling promises count towards the 'tough love' achievement?
Jimbob
08-11-2010, 12:12 PM
Well, this is what i discovered
You can save the money in the treasury, of which you will need around 6.5 million to save all the citizens of Albion. And a further 4 million(ish) to ful-fill all promises you made, you'll need a total of 11 million (ish) to save Albion and keep the people happy. Or, you can make the tough choices and be the most hated person in Albion, where Reaver gives the opposite choice to your promise. You'll make money on this choice, but Albion will be wrecked. Trust me, it will look bad.
The Tough Love achievement, you need to save everyone to get it. Raise the money as you wish, but i did it the honest way and kept the people happy at the same time.
My only issue at the moment is raising all the Guild Seals needed to open the last 3 chests, over 350 needed. Anyone willing to let me come into their game and earn a few??. I can help you with the co-op achievements at the same time.

There will be more stuff to buy in Aurora, but only
You pay to restore Aurora as part of your King duties, other-wise it remains a waste-land for good, with nothing to purchase.
You know about the Driftwood side-quests do you??, they are the only way to get Driftwood built into a nice community.

If anyone is looking to get the 15,000 Gold Bounty achievement, well the game auto-saves as you enter each region. So, if you don't want to tarnish your good hero. Enter, say Bowerstone Old Quarter. It works, because i did it myself. Saves going into a random co-op mode risking corruption of your save file. Proof of this, i have a new file which i did the achievement with and i am still classed as a god. It's the only file i got, as my King account got corrupted (i went into a random game and ka-pow, corrupt).
I recommend either Brightfall, Bowerstone Market, Industrial or Old Quarter for this. But make sure the game has saved before attempting it, and shut off the console as soon as the achievement comes up. Don't leave the area either, or go into any building.
But, you have to do this bounty achievement BEFORE you become King, other-wise it is impossible as the guards treat you as ABOVE the law.

It opens the old Gypsy Camp bridge, as the bloke says. There's 2 more quests inside Driftwood (each occuring over time) and 1 elsewhere to get Driftwood back on the map.
Edit: I was browsing the Lionhead site, and someone said all the Day 1 DLC is back on the marketplace. Unfortunetly, 2 items are not available which are the new region (Understone) and the Hair Pack. Looks like Lionhead took them down. But everything else is up.
Pity really, all i require is the new Quest pack. Not fussed on the other items, as most of them came with my LCE.
I'm the king of Albion, and in my treasury I have a wopping 1.2m gold.... not good, not good at all, i've kept one promise so far of building a school rather than re-instating child labour.
What i'm going to do now is nothing related to the main questline, i'm going to continue earning money be-it though pie making, lute playing or at bowerstone Blacksmiths, and all my earn't money will go onto more properties for more income which will be transferred to the treasury....
also going to make 20 friends as that's an achievement and should take quite a while so the money rolling in every 5 mins should be nice, and should get me a few easy guild seals by interacting with villagers and completing quests for them.
there need's to be more stuff to do that can bring money in than the 3 current jobs.

As for the last one, the clothes achievement. Once i have all i can get, i'll have a look around and see if anyone has the missing items i can "borrow". Same for the weapons, i don't wish to keep them. I only need them long enough to get the achievement.

yeah got the million from the demon door, that went straight into the treasury. When I first became king there was only 400k in the treasury, don't know if that's my game being glitched or if that's standard for everyone,
forgot about capturing criminals for 1k. also puts morality up too, so may do as many of them as possible.
for the 'make 20 friends' achievement, you've got to interact with them till you have to do a quest for them, that turns them to just 'friends' doesn't it? cause if you continue interacting, they require a 2nd quest to become best friends.... it just has to be normal friends for the achievement....
(all i could think of while typing the above was Inbetweeners... "Friend, Football Friend!" heh )
You can use that million to buy most stores. You'll then get nearly 50,000 every five/ten minutes.

There's no need to farm guild seals. If you are going to get all the achievements anyway you will get plenty guild seals along the way. I have all 54 keys, 30 flowers and 50 gnomes and I have 85 guild seals to spare.

I didn't know you could do that for so long... I figured that you stopped earning money the moment your controller automatically disconnects... is this not the case? If so I'll leave Fable III running while I go afk more often.

Fancy letting us in your game, i need to get 1,000 gold henchman achievement. I can help with your Treasury fundage in return or something similar.

Or, a Plug and Play charge kit. It acts in the same way as a Wired Controller, and won't turn off the controller.

Yeah that's fine dude, if you add me tonight. I'll be on at around 7ish.
and yeah I used the play and charge kit. But just to make sure i also put an elastic band round the left analogue stick, so my character was running around in circles in Bowerstone Market.

What do you have to for the henchmen thing? I'll probably buy a 48 hour code tomorrow around 8pm or so.
I've got around three 48 hour codes somewhere in my room if anyone wants one.

To be honest I have no idea.
I've tried it with my friend where he came to my world and did the pie making job till he earned 1000 gold from that, but that didn't seem to unlock the achievement.
I guess it's something to do with how long you spend in someone else's world and doing quests and such. I don't quite know.

I did a little searching around, it has something to do with earning money through quests along with the player whose game you are in.

How long did it take for people to get the establishing Driftwood Achievement?
I've done the following...
1) Built the bridge (give 750 gold)
2) Killed the Hobbes
3) escorted Rusty from Bowerstone to Driftwood
4) delivered a letter to a carpenter
then i just continued about my business in other places across albion but with no achievement popping up.
I've heard that if you sleep it'll pop up. not tried that yet, as i only read that today.
anyone else struggle with this?

I'm considering re-starting my game, but transferring all these weapons over to a new file. For the reason being, i think this file i have is corrupt. There are a few quests i remember seeing/doing in my original file but since re-starting and having this update, they haven't returned. Which means i cannot get all the Silver Keys, Gnomes or open the Gold Door in the Requim area. Which is a shame really, i was really enjoying the game so far.
The Sam and Max achievement has yet to pop-up, and i've done the quest(s) days ago. I think i know where the corruption took place, and that was in Bowerstone when i saw an orb and it spoke.

First wave of DLC is on it's way.
Understone, the first batch of proper Fable III DLC, will be released on 23rd November, Microsoft has said.
It'll cost 400 Microsoft Points.
Microsoft's Live community man Graeme Boyd tweeted that Understone will be set in a secret underworld beneath Bowerstone. Could this be linked to the gargoyles in Fable II?
Also coming are the Fable III pre-order bonuses: the hairstyle pack for 160 MSP and the five-star dog potion for 80 MSP.

At least there is news now, which is good. Probably be a patch to go along with it, because people are screaming for one to fix some of the big issues.
Achievements with the DLC?
guessing it'll be up to 1200g now? Was it an additional 200g per DLC for Fable II? I Cant remember,
Hope it's a little more interesting that Knothole Island and See The Future (what ever it was called)
and NO MORE COLLECTABLES PLEASE :(

Cheers H.O.T, much appreciated.
And this Henchman Achievement, jeez it is taking the mick. 10 gold per 5 or so minutes in the co-op mode. Lionhead certainly didn't think of this properly.
But i have heard that you can do it offline with a 2nd account, which i may try. Save the internet really.

Bit of a bump
Understone is up on the Marketplace, for the 400 points it costs i have to say it's good. The Mercenary Shooting Range and Reavers Wheel of Misfortune quests can be re-done at anytime, you just don't get the seals again (except the combat ones that is).
And in case anyone was wondering, no new achievements.

No new achievements... that is random?!
but you say that you can get seals to go towards unlocking all the chests on road to rule?
Hmm.. debating weather it's worth a purchase without the achievements.

Reaver's Wheel of Misfortune and the Mercenary Camp Shooting Range definitley feel like they were ripped from the main game. Especially the shooting range, that feels like something that should have opened up after you become King.
I havn't visited Understone yet, but i will return my thoughts of this once i do visit.
Murr, the WOM is repeatable. Which means you can earn seals after getting the initial 40 (yes, it's worth 40 seals). So is the shooting range.

Hmm so I finally got the 'Kaboom!' achievement for beating the Mourningwood fort mortar mini-game... only problem is I tried to play the game today and it doesn't get past the loading screen.... it just freezes and all I can do is turn off my Xbox 360. :(
Naturally I Googled it and other players have had the same problem so Lionhead are most likely aware of it, so in theory I could just not play the game until it's patched and then I'd hopefully be able to carry on from where I left off right?
I was toying with the idea of starting again but tbh... I don't really want to, so am I best waiting it out for the patch in the hope that will solve my problem or will I most likley still have to start again

There's still no news on a release of a patch, but there is one in the works that will address many problems with the game.

I've just been playing this game a short while and I'm wondering... does it get better? I am so far a little disappointed... Some things have been over-complicated (changing clothes, will, the pause menu, playing with your dog has become a mini-custcene complete with its own fade-to-black) whilst others have been over-simplified (expressions) and yet on the whole everything is far too familiar. Hollow men, belching, flourishes, fireballs, dog that finds treasure, giant spade that lives in hammer space (where did I get that from this time??). I really feel like I'm just playing some DLC for Fable 2 with slightly dumbed-down controls.
My g/f is currently playing through Fable 2 so I'm getting to see them side by side quite clearly and Fable 3 definitely feels the worse of the two. It even seems inferior graphically. As soon as we got the trailer for this game I was worried it was going to be a rushed cash-in, and now I'm feeling that my doubts were accurate.
It's not that it isn't a fun game, I will keep playing, but I'm just wondering if something's going to come along soon and reassure me.
Funny, I think I posted almost the exact same thing in the Black Ops thread shortly after getting that.
As a side note/question, what are these abilities that pop up on the d-pad? A moment ago I got some bugs which I summoned to my side, and now D-Up seems to be offering me some Time-related ability. I have no idea where these even came from...

They're items, I believe. But there's no inventory so you can't actually see what you have until it appears on the d-pad.
I was really disappointed with Fable 3, it was one of the only games last year I couldn't be bothered to finish. Not that it was a terrible game, but as something of a fall from grace — and having heard the ending is the worst part — I didn't have any desire to continue with it.
All I wanted was Fable 2 but tighter: less performance issues, snappier combat, generally positive tweaks across the board. Instead I found the third game to be a laundry list of bad design decisions, even if they were made with good intentions. It's a real case of simplifying rather than streamlining, a lot of things about it being so 'simple' that they end up being more unwieldy than ever.
The D-pad is used to activate potions. Which are essentially the slow down time and summon dead spells from Fable 2.
I found stuff like changing clothes to be a lot easier then using Fable 2's incredibly slow and clunky pause menu. It also looks (graphically) like it belongs on this generation of consoles (unlike the rather ugly Fable 2).I agree with expressions - it would have been nice to be able to choose what to do. I enjoyed it a lot more than Fable 2, even though it is very familiar.

It is just like fable II, it is the same world essentially, 40 years on. Yes there is a stupid dog that glitches and a spade that appears from nowhere,
I'm playing through again for a second time after making some 'rash' decisions but all in all I do enjoy playing it.
Those abilities pop up are potions that the dog probably found, you can only view them (I think) when in battle and don't have any control of them in menus, also you can't buy wine and beer, only one type, I not sure why but I think they are trying to simplify everything. I never enjoyed the 'start' menu to begin with but then I started getting used to it.
Don't rush as well like I did the first time round, kinda ruined it for me.

If you don't rush it, it is a great title. Otherwise the whole game is done (without collecting everything) within the space of 9 hours. Probably less as well, if you go quicker.
It felt better at the beginning, but the game definetly rushes you through it. I was dissapointed with the end as well. There are parts which are better than FII, but there are parts which are worse than FII. Like for example, why take away the expression wheel. Why do i want to dance with a bloke NPC.

Yeah I didn't get why the took away the expression wheel. Was one of the good aspects of fable II.
When upgrading weapons doing certain thing's i presume you have to have the weapon equipped? also is there anyway to see how far you are to completing the challenges for the weapons?

You need the weapon equipped. You have to go to the level selection to see how well you're doing.

Some of the upgrade augments do take the mickey to earn, i only upgraded 2 or 3 fully. And that was to only earn double, if not triple guild seals.

I don't miss the expression wheel, but that's probably because I've always hated interacting with the non-plot-essential NPCs in the Fable games.
*Patty-cake* "Get this item for me" "Yay, now we're friends!" *Cluck like a chicken* "Lead me by the hand to that place over there" *Kiss* "I have never loved anyone like I love you"

That achievement is for interacting with 20 people. You don't have to shake their hands.
