Now that more news has surfaced about the game, coming to XBL for free, is anyone else looking forward to the game at all? It's certainly something new and different, giving everyone a chance to play in a game show and win real prizes.

New previews and hands-ons today paint really promising pictures of how this could turn out so I'm definitely looking forward to this. Winning MS Points or a free Arcade game? Awesome! :D

Kotaku:

Microsoft's plan for 1 vs 100 is for the multiplayer game show to run for 13-week seasons. Each season will offer players the chance to gain 200 Achievement Points. New season, new Achievements.

Because 1 vs 100 is free to Xbox Live Gold subscribers (who have to pay annually for Gold, of course), these will be some of the cheapest Achievement Points achievable on the system.

No word yet on what the Achievements will be.

Hero Of Time will love this, free achievments :P

This IS coming to Europe, right?

Thats a good question. We do seem to get screwed out of most things in Europe.

Yeah, it is. They have local teams of writers for the questions regions too which is nice. Ireland, UK, Canada, N. America, France, Germany and a few more I've forgotten. Dunno what they'll do about the timezone difference aspects though. I wonder if we might have our own UK host?

Was wondering where the hell this had disappeared too. Remember this being a big selling point for NXE, I thought it was going to be integrated to that in some way at launch. Better late than never.

What's to stop you sitting there with a laptop and wikipedia?

So those who are forced to renew their subscription are the ones who can get it for free or is it any type of Subscriber?

The impression I get is that it's just free for anyone with XBL Gold in any form.

From what I read the answer have to come quick so you apparently don't have enough time to search for answers. Is what I read.
But there's nothing stopping two people playing, one on a pc, the other on the game. Depends how quick they want the answers to come.

Pretty much guaranteed to get saddo cheaters on this. It seems quite fun and I for one would actually prefer to play it fairly. Unfortunately most people aren't like that and will just google...

Dyson

Kotaku's impressions of the game stated that you just wouldn't have time to google the answers. Guess that means there's a pretty severe time limit.

There's a Joystiq video (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/06/1-vs-100-gameplay-footage-previews-prizes-advertisements/) which gives an idea of how things will work. Personally I'm pretty suspect about the prizes in the demonstration, though; they seem a bit generous to me, unless there's only one "showing" a day or something.

Dyson
07-05-2009, 10:04 PM
There's one "Live" event a night, two nights a week (Friday and Saturday). It lasts for 2 hours and they get through multiple rounds of the game, not sure how many. This lasts for a season of 13 weeks. The Extended Play events or whatever they're called don't have a live host and there are no prizes as far as I know - but playing it gives you a higher chance to be picked for "The Mob" in the Live shows.

Aimless
07-05-2009, 10:13 PM
Ahh, in that case I rescind my scepticism. About the prizes, anyway; the game's biggest problem will most likely by the Live audience, unless Microsoft will be issuing bans and such for being disruptive.

To be clear I think this a really good move on Microsoft's part. If it works out I can see them having a different programme on every day of the week in a year or so.

Dyson

Can you imagine it? I'm genuinely shocked there's no entry fee though. I certainly wasn't expecting it to be free at all, especially seeing as there's prizes. I guess the advertising and revenue in new subscriptions will make up for it.

Giant Bomb (http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-1-vs-100-beta/17-555/) have over 30 minutes of footage from one of the live Canadian Beta shows. Albeit not that live, but it at least shows you how everything works.

I actually watched the entire thing, and whilst it's fair to say I was pretty bored at 7AM on a Sunday I think this could be an excellent thing to play with other people in the room so that you can pool your knowledge. I found it strangely addicting to watch, so I can see myself regularly trying to take part when there's actual MSP up for grabs.

The BETA starts in 2 hours time, who else is gonna have a go? Is the beta region specific?

Pretty crap. There was something like 70,000 people playing and vying for 101 places with a chance at a prize.

Aye but that's 101 places each round and in the rules I'm pretty sure it says you can't be in the mob more than once per session. Must have been at LEAST 25 rounds played... soo around 2500 spaces? 1 in 28 chance of getting picked once over the entire two hours? Still kinda crap odds. I guess the total number of people playing will vary though and with this being the first day it's likely it was unusually high.

Seems like there are shit loads of prizes given out though to be fair. A good couple of hundred XBLA titles must have been won in that session.

Emerald Emblem

Only twice was it when the mob won they didn't win anything because the one got disconnected, that is sorely unfair to those 100.

SPAMBOT4000
10-07-2009, 09:32 PM
Yeah but the mob doesn't win anything anyway unless 40 (30?) of them are knocked out so it wouldn't have mattered anyway. The rules regarding prizes are too confusing!

So... if you're the one and a sore loser you could just turn your 360 off when it goes pear shaped?

I had a little go, it was ok but you're basically just a spectator, the chances of actually being one of the 101 are slim so you'll likely just sit around wasting a few hours watching lifeless animations win lots of MS points despite doing worse than you.

Aaarrrgh, I am annoyed I forgot about this tonight! Though my internet was temperamental at best so I probably wouldn't have held out :(

Hence why this is a Beta I suppose - I'm sure they'll work out the kinks.

Had a go for about half an hour and seemed to get into the mob fairly easily, didn't get selected as 'the one' as I had my privacy settings set to private initially and I believe that prevents you from being selected (other than the fact that the odds are slim).

Seemed OK for a beta and still needs work obviously, but I reckon this will get an occasional look in.

Adverts/breaks were a little too frequent but that is more preferential than paying to play.

Prizes aren't active at the moment, but if the indicators were representative of how frequent they will be given out when it does go live, there should be plenty of opportunities to grab some goodies.

Played the 1 Vs. 100 Extended Play last night for the first time. And did I get a crappy category. Bloody football! Didn't do great, think I got just over 30% correct, but I did get a half decent amount of points because quite a lot of people got some really easy questions wrong. Anyway, it's interesting to say the least but I doubt it's something I'd find myself coming back to over and over again.

Pantsu Man!

So how exactly do you get to be in the mob or the one in 1 vs 100. I can't believe how easy some of these questions are at the moment, and also at what some people are getting wrong...

Dyson

So my sister was in the mob tonight! Put a totally different spin on the game. Was pretty exciting as well - unfortunately the One took the money on question 3 or 4 (leaving with a measly 1200 MS Points) so my sister didn't get anything but it was still awesome seeing her avatar up there with the dotted background and everything :D

So much fun. Who'd have thought general trivia would be so exciting? *shrug*

Played my first game yesterday evening. Quite entertaining, feels like Buzz in a way, but fighting the rest of the country to get those points. Can never get as high as some of the other people, even when I've answered all the questions right. CRAZY FAST PEOPLE!

Yea, lots. I prefer the non-prize shows (there is little chance of winning a price), as you get more than 3 questions before a long break.

This was fun the first 3 or 4 times. It just got a bit dull though. I had the same questions come up a couple times.

I'd only play this if they added local play as well.

And if Live was free. I really do see less and less point paying for Live.
