Its kind of hard to decide where to put this thread since the Fire Emblem series has been on Consoles and handhelds alike. So move the thread elsewhere if you think its necessary.

Basically this is the thread to go to for anything Fire Emblem related. Whether its talking about the old, Japanese exclusive games (that will hopefully come to Revolution), saying how much you love the handheld games (and soon the Gamecube version), or just bragging about how good you are with Roy on Super Smash Bros Melee, it all goes here.

So who else is buying Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance in November?
Me definately. Some people predict it may get AAA at Gamespot/IGN. I've never played a FE before but am willing to try this.

I'll be getting this and Sacred Stones. Its conveniant that they're both released on the same day (4th November 2005).

I've never played a Fire Emblem game either, but may give this one a go when it's released.

It's a shame that Roy and/or Marth do not feature in it because they are who i associate with the series (because of Smash Bros.)!!
How does the Fire Emblem story work? I believe Marth is in FE 3,5 and Roy in FE 4, is that at all right?
Have they never met in the series?
Who are the series main characters?

Marth stars in Fire Emblem 1 and 3, while Roy stars in Fire Emblem 6 (plus gets a brief mention in Fire mblem 7). The two characters are from different worlds, so they have never met eachother.

The Fire Emblem story can be confusing, because, like the Final Fantasy series sometimes they take the series to different worlds. I'll try to explain the best I can.

Fire Emblem 1 and 3 take place in Akanea and Fire Emblem 2 takes place in Valencia
Fire Emblem 1 (The Dark Dragon and the Sword of Light) is the first in the series. It stars Marth.
Fire Emblem 2 (Side-Story) is a side story to Fire Emblem 1. It stars Alm and Celica. This game is also considered to be the Zelda II of the family.
Fire Emblem 3 (Mystery of the Emblem) not only contains the sequal to Fire Emblem 1, but has a remade Fire Emblem 1 too. Marth stars as the main character for this one.

Fire Emblem 4 and 5 takes place in the continent of Jugdral
Fire Emblem 4 (Genealogy of the Holy War) is the first in this new world. It stars Sigurd and Selis.
Fire Emblem 5 (Thracia 776) takes place inbetween chapters five and six of Fire Emblem 4. It also overlaps a bit with chapter 7 and ends where Chapter 8 of Fire Emblem 4 begins. It stars Leaf

Fire Emblem 6 and 7 takes place in the continent of Elibe, which is in no way related to the worlds in any of the previous Fire Emblems.
Fire Emblem 6 (Sword of Seals) is the first in this new world. It stars Roy.
Fire Emblem 7 (Blazing Sword) is the prequel to Fire Emblem 6. It stars Lyn, Eliwood (father of Roy) and Hector.

Fire Emblem 8 takes place in the continent of Magvel
Fire Emblem 8 (Sacred Stones) is the first in this new world. It stars Eirika and Ephraim.

Fire Emblem GC (Path of Radiance) takes place in the land of Tellius.

Hope that helps a bit.

Wow i feel i've caught up with Fire Emblem from that!

I guess Fire Emblem 3 (FE 1 & 3), and Fire Emblem 6 and 7 would be the best to get them for Roy and Marth.

Is there one FE game considered to be the best?

Also, who stars in 'The of Radiance' ?

I've got an import version of FE7, awesome game I love it. I won't be getting 8 though, I've heard in comparison to 7 its not as good, and is basically the same game.

I am very interested in the Cube game and I definitely will be buying it.

Played a few of the other FE's and I highly recommend 7 to anyone who has never played it before.

Chances are that we may see Fire Emblem 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 as downloadable games on the Revolution, so I wouldn't try getting Fire Emblem 3 just yet, since Japanese is the only language you can play it in right now. Fire Emblem 6 however, is a GBA game, so you most likely won't be able to see it as a downloadable game for Revolution. Roy seems to be stuck in Japan only for now (minus his brief mention in Fire Emblem 7)

Apparently, Fire Emblem 4 (Genealogy of the Holy War) is the best game of the series, plus the most imported. But I'm sure you'll find them all to be thoroughly enjoyable :).

I'm not too sure about this, but the star of Fire Emblem 9 (Path of Radience) is called Ike.

You're welcome. :heh:

If i do get around to getting this, it'll be the first Fire Emblem game i've ever played. I think Super Smash Bros.Melee did a lot of help for the series because it introduced newer gamers to the likes of Marth and Roy.

Loved playing the first English one for the GBA and enjoyed Sacred Stones as well. I hope that they will bring out remakes of the other games on to the DS or something.

I'm getting the Cube version when it's finally out. I'd be mad to miss out on a cool strategy RPG.

What is Fire Emblem about exactly?

It is a popular strategy and role-playing video game franchise, developed by Intelligent Systems, and published by Nintendo. It is from the developers of Advance Wars.

Command a fantastic army of heroes in this turn-based strategy battle! After many years, the rightful heir to the throne of Rikea has been found. Now, she must be defended against usurpers and assassins as she makes her way to her homeland. Take control of an army of loyal soldiers, but use them wisely. Each of your soldiers possesses unique skills, but if they fall in battle, they're lost forever. Test your skills as a military strategist as you guide your forces into battle. Strike from above with your Pegasus knights, or guide your armored footmen in close combat. You'll need to gauge your enemy wisely and use the terrain to your advantage as you fight across hostile lands and restore the lost heir to her birthright. With dozens of soldiers, weapons, and magic spells at your command, you'll have everything you need to dominate the field of war. in that game).

A truely fantastic game, even when yo ulose you keep turning it back on a doing it again. I must've lost a battle five times and kept on doing it again. It is that addictive. A nice brain engager

Intelligent Systems are fast becoming one of my favourite developers. Paper Mario: Tttyd and the Advance Wars games are so fantastic that the thought of being the same developer of them alone makes me want Path of Radiance. I'm a massive fan of RPGs, and I'm a big fan of Advance Wars, so logically I should like it, but i have that worry that for some reason I won't

I've played fire emblem on gba, the one with hector and eliwood and i finished the sacred stones a few months ago. sacred stones was fun but it didn't have enough side quests. But i like the tower of valni and the lagdou ruins training spots. I welcome the fact that we're able to train characters as much as we like in sacred stones.

I hope they put something like the lagdou ruins in the path of radiance for GC because i'd hate to advance through the game with some characters really high and some really low. I like to keep it all even.

Anyways, i'll be damn sure to check out Path Of Radiance when it comes out in Australia.

I just hope it won't be too hard because I was never good at strategizing and planning ahead in these games. That's why I don't like the feature that your characters never come back if they die.
I hope I can play this through without restarting every mission a lot in the later half of the game because someone died on me.
That could get annoying and it's the only fear I have that could go wrong with this game.

I have the game now! I recently got Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones and that was so freaking cool (even for a GBA game.

Theres 2 quests so in total I have a sweet 70 hours in it (yes I'm also slow and left it on for about 6 hours then fell asleep) But still well over 50 is quite remarkable.

I just got alot of secret characters which i wanted to unlock before playing the Cube version.
But I played it for abit before going to bed and so far I'm very impressed.

The graphics are quite nice, and the intro is awesome. Theres great characters so far and alot of humour too. Playing the GBA version was a good choice too cause now I already understand the game (or series for that matter) the Cube version has alot of familliar things but also alot of new features which I'll soon learn more about n_n

great game, great game indeed!

Well Stocka...it's an rpg in a way...and I like it...and a game has to be pretty amazing for me to like it...

I'm not sure if it was Sprout or Deku Nutz who told me to play the GBA game first, but I did and that really helped. I mean, if a GBA game can keep me busy for over 50 hours 0_0 it has to be good (Of course there is a chance that you still may not like it)

As for the Cube version, I'm now in Chapter 14 and hoping it has lots more, hardly any of my characters are class 2 so I'm expecting lots to happen yet n_n.

It's really starting to get better and better everytime, and alot harder too than the gba version, but thats good n_n

You should at least rent it or borrow it first if yer not sure, and maybe play the gba game first n_n

Great thread this one. I'm joining in with the fun :)

Intelligent Systems definately is one of my fave developers. In the NES/SNES era I always wondered what the fuss was all about the Famicom Wars and Fire Emblem games. I remember when the N64 was doing the business a new SNES game was announced. That game was Fire Emblem 5: Thracia 776. "That's just crazy" I thought.

With the arrival of the GBA I finally could get my hands on the Advance Wars and Fire Emblem games. They're just freaking awesome! They even rival Zelda as my favourite game franchise.

Anyway, I just love 'm! Shame we Fire Emblem 6 was never localized, but they made that up by releasing Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones and Path of Radiance yesterday :)

Got my hands on Path of Radiance yesterday, will get Sacred Stones as soon as possible. Though Advance Wars DS has got my hands full already...

Well once again I get screwed out of playing a game straight away. My Nintendogs got lost in the post so I decided to not use Gameplay for this and just get it at my local games shop instead. I went to get it yesterday and they said it would be in today. I then went up today and still no game as their Nintendo shipment has been delayed. I clearly have the worst luck when buying games. true, but you can get many characters. Theres also one for if you finish it 3 times and then some other random numbers, but they can only be used in special maps. But you cant level up in these special maps so its hardly anything to keep you busy.

The main game is awesome enough and the extras are just a bonus. But the main game should keep you busy for enough.

They even go so far as to say;
"Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance is a game that definitely should have been released at the beginning of the GameCube’s life; it could have easily become a killer application of Final Fantasy VII proportions had it only been given launch-window recognition. Really, it’s that good. Go out and buy it, folks, this could very well be the GameCube's Game of the Year."

This is my fire Fire Emblem game and WOW it is bloody fantastic and I mean it, this isn't an hyperbole.

The characters, they way the develop, mature. Not long ago rolf was a weak little boy, now he is one of my best.

I'm 12 and a half hours into the game - chapter 15 and I'm loving it. Surely my favourite game on the cube so far.

Oscar, Titania, Ike, Boyed totally cool characters. This game, I don't what it is but you really feel as if they are real. Such as when they all support Ike as commander, the music hits in and they words of encouragement surely will boost anyone's morale, well mines at least.

Even when some of your forces, Gatrie for example, leave your crew because they can't accrept you as commander you kinda think "Ah well, as long as the rest stick with me" but then, when you later catch up with him and his new employee you are kinda pissed off at him. Hahah I know, I know, its only a game but still.

Here's a question to anyone who has this game: is Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance worth getting?

I'm now just over 24 hours into the game. Chapter 26 I believe. So far, I have lots of charcters and up until now none of them have died. The storyline is one of the best part of the game and to be honest it kind of surprised me. Nintendo being Nintendo rely more on Gameplay that storyline, Nintendo games usually have weak storys but this time, Path of Radience I believe has a really strong one plus great gameplay. A great game, you must get it now - everyone!

Finally arrived yesterday (thank you to the ever reliable gameplay) , and have put a couple of hours into it - just starting chapter 3 - and I think I will enjoy this game immensly.

Obviously , a little slow to start with , but the proposed depth on offer has me eager to explore this game a lot more. A worthwhile purchase.

Incidently , a word of warning to you all , avoid CDWOW at all costs , not only did they botch up my order for this game , they have also buggered my order for the new SOAD album , avoid them like the plague.

Just completed it about 5 mins ago. Top quality strategy RPG game. I took me past 26 hours of gaming to finish it.

Last battle I lost a couple of my guys but because it was the last it didn't really matter, I just wanted to finish it and see the ending.

Now what do I play?

Now that you've finished it you need to play all over again!! That's what you do to a game that's so addictive. I thoroughly enjoyed Fire Emblem 7 and 8 (though I don't own them) and I have spent a few hours on 4 and 5 but didn't get so far because of the language barrier.
Finally, this weekend, my sis is gonna drop down from the US with my very own copy of FE: Path of Radiance!!! I can't wait!! It's been a long wait (the trouble with living in Africa) but it's been worth it. Think (Gladius x 2.5 x teH MEGATON!!11) = FE:PoR!!!!

I got mine from CDWOW by Nectar Points redemption. They are quite slow, though I found out the game shipped from Hong Kong, so that is why it takes so long.

Can't complain too much I guess for not paying for it.

The game is brilliant, I've rarely been so hooked on a game. I literally play the game for 3 or 4 hours a time, because some of the battles require quite a bit of strategy and planning.

I'm on Chapter 20 and played for nearly 40 hours already. And that doesn't include the 5 or 6 times i messed up and restarted chapters.

Must buy for sure. Miles better than Advance Wars.

It's bloody brilliant. So far, I'm up to chapter 15, and I'm loving every second of it. So far, my Soren, Boyd and Oscar have been given class upgrades, and most of the units are close to upgrading. Not Marcia and Jill though. Flying units are such a pain to raise...

The storyline is as great as you'd expect from a Fire Emblem game. Certain support conversations can be hilarious, and the cutscenes you get are absolutely amazing.

You've done it again Intelligent Systems. Keep making the awesome games. Now, chapter 15 awaits me. To battle! Hiyaaaaa!

Ive got back to this while having a brief pause from Baten Kaitos. Its needed the getting back to cos I was only on mission two or three! Then in one sitting, what do you know but the game becomes unputdownable and Im up to like mission ten atleast now. Its my first Fire Emblem game and its great... I kept hearing the graphics are fantastic in this but in my opinion they coulda done with some work to some characters - the pirates looked horrendous. One other thing is maybe the running patterns coulda been smoothed out a bit? The directions people run can be very angular.

All in all its a great game and Im definitely thinking seriously about getting one or both of the GBA games now... the only thing is Im using my time to game to the max at the minute and get caught up with these games and I dont know how much longer Ill be able to do this... so much to do and so little time!

It's like Advance Wars but in Medieval. More complex, more RPG, more story-based and normal characters with their own personality. All in anime style. For me too this is my first Fire Emblem and believe me not the last. I will definitely buy the Wii's Fire Emblem.

This convinced me to buy Fire Emblem:

Hey all!

Ive just completed this about an hour ago, what a game! A great and complicated political, racist story... good tactical gameplay, lovely cutscenes - poor in game graphics - but that didnt matter because I kept playing and playing. It took about thirty hours and Id add a good few onto that to account for all the restarts I had to do.

I thought I was pretty thorough in this but your archer guy, Shinon, didnt rejoin me and ** MILD SPOILER ** there were two other "??????" on the artwork list at the end... hmmm.

Anyhow, twas my first Fire Emblem and it comes greatly recommended.

Im on chapter 19 now. I managed to recruit Shinon back as hes awesome, also on chapter 19 I thought you had to kill the Raven King but I just read you have to let Reynson talk to him to allow him to leave the battle field and take his men with him. This little tactic should make the battle easier, also Soren still ownz all with perhaps the exception of Stefan.

Well I finally finished the game and I have to say that I wasnt that impressed. The gameplay was solid enough and enjoyable but it was the presentation that lets the game down.

I wouldnt call myself a graphics whore but the ingame graphics were pretty poor. Also when playing a game with a decent storyline ( which this has ) music helps portray various emotions. Now this is where the game falls flat on its face. The game has very little speech in it so you cant get the emotion from the sound of their voice so you try to listen for a change in the music to get a sense of what you are supposed to be feeling. The music that is used is very flat and not inspiring at all and in some cases the music isnt even present!

What started off as an enjoyable game turned out to abit of a disappointment, the only saving grace is the the story is really good with many a meaning to it.

do i have to do something with my epilogue file?

Do i just go to a blank file and choose "new game"?

And is it possible to copy a file with the last level and just complete it over and over, successfully cheating to get the secret characters?

Yeah, so apparently, this thread exists:laughing:

Anyway, I just wanted to say that, as I've been spending time with The Sacred Stones, this game is incredibly addictive and I'm having trouble putting it down once I get started.
I can only imagine how awesome the other games will be.

Also, is it normal to quit the game after you've lost one of your loyal teammates after you fucked up with your strategy?:red:
I just can't get myself to continue when that awesome chick or that suave dude dies, so I just start over.:hehe:

Another question: when a character advances with a certain weapon type, is that advance bound to that type, or is it bound by that weapon?
It has to be the type, no? Because there's no way to save a weapon from deteriorating.

Anyway, consider me hyped for Awakening!!! :D

(I must say, after having been dissapointed by Zelda, this, Okami and Rayman Origins are good for one hell of an awesome gaming time:D)

Bound to the type, you can see your current levels in the characters stat screen somewhere. The rank on the actual weapon just means what rank you need to be able to use it.

This is not just normal, it's practically mandatory  The only time I let someone stay dead, it was my first-ever playthrough, on a very difficult map (which I had restarted multiple times), and it was a character I wasn't using much, anyway.

But never again.

Another question: when a character advances with a certain weapon type, is that advance bound to that type, or is it bound by that weapon?

It is bound by type. Check one your character's 3rd screen (the one with supports on the lower side, and weapons on the upper side) and you can see how your character's doing. There's a small bar below each weapon, you can see roughly how far it takes to get to the next level.

Basically, what weapon ranks allow you to do is to wield better weapons. For example, Joshua's Killing Edge? C-Rank. I'm betting Franz can't use it yet, because he's not C-Rank in Swords yet.
(You can see the rank of any weapon by checking its stats. "Prf" means that weapon is exclusive to a certain character)

Ah, you took the Eirika route, then. The merchant nation was...Carcino, right?

Yeah, Carcino (almost like Casino, that's how I should've remembered it).

I started the game with Eirika, so I thought I might as well follow her path.
She grew on me, along with the characters you meet in the beginning.
You just keep encountering more and more characters who then join your group, which made me form a sort of core group of 'originals' so to speak:

Eirika, leader
Seth and Franz, cavalier
Gilliam (heavy-armoured spear guy) and Garcia (Tough axe man) as my main force on foot.
Ross (son of Garcia, upgraded to a Pirate), Lutte (fire mage) and Neimi (archer) right behind them
Moulder (the priest) oversees all their injuries :)

I believe all of them have some support going on, but some take more time than others....at least I think so.

Garcia and Ross bonded quite quickly, but maybe that's because they're father and son, but it took me ages just to get Gilliam and Garcia to armwrestle
I do keep those last 6 close together because of this whole 'support' business. It's good fun:D

Ike
16-05-2012, 03:33 PM
Seth

Try not to use Seth too much, he's a promoted unit so he doesn't get much EXP from enemies which other units would benefit from more. He's useful if you get in a bit of trouble though. It's less of a problem in this game due to the extra maps but it might save you some trouble later.

And you're enamoured with the supports already, too! :hehe: Good going, these supports are one of the main reasons I keep replaying these games. Just remember that each character has a maximum of 5 supports, so if you want to reach A-support with someone, don't go overboard.

And you're right, Ross/Garcia is one of the fastest supports in the game (11 turns for C-Support and 20 turns for the others). Meanwhile, Gilliam/Garcia takes...40 turns per rank, according to my sources.

Fused King

Damn, no wonder it took so long.

But I am determined to keep my main group supporting eachother.

Also, I thought there were only 3 ranks in the whole 'supporting' business: C -> B -> A.

Jonnas
17-05-2012, 03:19 PM
Yes, what I meant with "5 supports per person" is that this combination is not possible:

Ross

A Garcia
B Lute
B Amelia

Because he supported three times with Garcia, twice with Lute and twice with Amelia. 3+2+2=7, which is bigger than 5.

This is to balance the supports you choose to have, and it also preventss a character from getting two A-Supports in a single run. It also means that something like a Garcia that looks like this:

Garcia

B Ross
B Gilliam
C Seth

2+2+1=5

Means that he can't get an A Support anymore. Unless someone dies :(

Fused King
19-05-2012, 10:04 AM
Finally maxed out Garcia and Ross's support, and got Moulder and Gilliam talking for the first time.
My rendition:
Moulder:'Do you hear that Gilliam, I totally hear something'.
Gilliam:'I've fought more battles than you, but I don't hear something, you're getting old'
Moulder:'But I really hear something, can't you hear it, Gilliam!'
Gilliam: 'You're a bit tense, old man. You've been touchin' to many young boys as a priest of Frelia.'
Moulder: 'But I really hear something...'
Gilliam: *Goes and talk to Garcia*

Seriously though, 't was a strange conversation:laughing:

Also, I have a question regarding the 'evolution' of characters.

You see, Ross 'evolved' when he got to level 10 without any attribute, yet all the others up 'till now need something: A ring, A crest, ....etc.

How does this work exactly, and what happens when you 'evolve' a character who's at level 13? Will het go to level 3 in his new form?

Jonnas

Ross is a "trainee", like Amelia and Ewan. It's sort of a "Tier 0" that only exists in Sacred Stones, so they simply promote to "Tier 1" at level 10.
(For clarification, Franz, Lute, Neimi, etc. are "Tier 1", while Seth, Saleh, Innes, etc. are "Tier 2")

When you promote someone with a crest/seal/whatever, they are upgraded to their promoted form, Level 1, no matter at what level you promoted them. The maximum level is Level 20, so some players prefer to let them grow to Level 20 before promoting, but you can promote them at any time.

Let's take Franz for example. Letting him grow to 20/20, involves him gaining 38 level ups, for huge stats. Promoting him early at Level 12 means he only has 30 level ups to grow.
I think you should promote your units whenever you feel like they're lagging behind, and could use that extra boost.

O.K. I get all that, but what I also want to know is how limited are these crests, rings etc....

Most of the time you find them or get them from a main enemy, right?

That is almost correct. While their number is meant to be limited, there are Secret Shops in the game that sell them at 10000 Gold each. Additionally, there is a "Master Seal" that can promote any unit (except Pirates and Thieves)

Sacred Stones usually has more than enough, but there's only one Orion's Bolt (Archers) and one Ocean's Seal (Pirates and Thieves) that you can get for free. If you missed one of these, you need to buy it.

The benefit of the world map in SS means that you can always tower abuse to strengthen up weaker characters if their levels are falling behind - obviously can help unfortunate level ups though.

Anyway, after finishing off Blazing Sword, I've started on Sacred Stones now and am up to Chapter 13 I think on Ephraim's route. I'm playing my original cart as the ambassor GBA games are either too blurry or too small, depending on what you choose, and the colours are all washed out. The GBA cart in a DSL is the best way to go.
