the point of this thread is because it would be greatly appreciated if people would give me some some help on deciding on what subjects to take at college.
i have no idea on what to take, i want to go into computer games software design/ creation and all that jazz. what i would like to know is what subjects to take at A level to help me get a place at Bolton/ Salford/ Manchester Uni to go on a computer games sotware development course.
the only subject i am clear about it Computing, and possibly Graphics. im wondering what 2/3 other subjects to take, the good thing is that i can drop one at the end of AS level, and only study 3 at A2 level.
So please help.
Edit: im going to Holy Cross so if people know what courses they do would help mealso rather than randomly saying course that theydont do.

You can never go wrong with Maths when your gettin into IT.

I'd reccommend Media, it's just a free AS/A level. Piece of literal, total piss.

i though about that but the thing is the are saying you need to have studied higher maths, and im not studying it. i might apply for that anyway
i was also considering media, not sure about it though.

Media's actually alright, but choose wisely, for not every media department is good media department. It's a quite new subject so it's still finding its feet I guess. Not to put you off or anything, if you're teacher is good, it's brilliant.

AS business is only good if you are good with numbers as AS level is more numbers than analysis, and A2 is more of the analysis that comes from the numbers, just thought id let you go.

You're wasting your time with a computer game course. Just do a computer science, it's much more respected by employers and leaves you more options when you graduate.
You'll need a Maths A Level to do that. For your other choices, just choose subjects you enjoy and you're good at, although unis may prefer you to have a bit of a bias towards science-based subjects. For the love of god, avoid crap subjects like 'Media Studies', the universities will just laugh at you. Then just get the best grades you can and go for it!

Well I've just applied for 3 Computer Games courses at three different Uni's. None of them specified any A levels. But Computing in my opinion is a must, you will learn fundamental things that will ultimately help you. I took Maths up to AS Level and then I dropped it because I sucked. I now take Computing, Physics and Electronics.
Each of my subjects help each other really, my Physics knowledge allows me to understand my Eletronics, and Electronics allows me to understand the hardware side of Computing.
Basically what I'm saying is take Computing, maybe Maths, and then take two subjects you'll enjoy and pass.

From your choices, I would go for Maths, Physics, Computing, then something else. They're very science based, perhaps choose something contrasting like English Lit or History? Oh and I may be biased (being a geography student and everything), but Geography is a very good course.

the national dimploma in media sounds reaallly tempting, like ALOT of fun. but im still not sure i want to get into media, so i'll stick with an a-level...
(im in the same situation)

I haven't read all the thread, so this may well have been suggested, but I would just get in touch with the Uni's and ask what they'd be looking for in order to take the course.

the only problem is that the application has to be in by today/tomorow and if i send an email now then i wont get it back for like 2 days. thats what happened when i asked Bolton uni something. ill have to make a decision today, why cant they just do a gaes course, bastards

look, youve probably already haerd this, but just look on the internet and see roughly what courses youd need to take to get in to the uni course you want (you wil need ict, but usally they only want a high number of UCAS points or good grades), and im betting that it probably doeset mater too much on your other subjects other than ict , you may also need a creative subject, likephotography do, but only if you are desining the game or game characters, but again its not compulsory i dont believ (dont quote me on that though im not sure, so pick 2/3 other subjects that you are good at or like, also check greenwich out as i hear that they too do courses in computer games starting next year.

There's no need to lock a thread just because it's served the original purpose. Some just fade away and die of their own accord.

Can I just say good choice with computing, I did it for A Level and really enjoyed it (despite, shall we say, 'teacher problems'), it's an excellent course. If you already know a fair bit about computers/programming you should breeze through it too!
