What were your standout moments of 2008?

Mine were...

Metal Gear Solid 4

It looks so good it shames everything else.

Returning Mirror's Edge

A shambles of a game. (I'm not going to explain myself. If you enjoyed it then that's my loss.)

Getting Hired by Square

Bit of a weird choie this but it is related to gaming. :heh:

3. super smash bros brawl

specificaly, the fan-gasim i got from the sub space cut scenes.

2. metal geal soild 4

possibly as it was my first ps3 game, but this was truly unbelivable, the best lloking game on the market, with a greeat story, and brilliant gameplay.

1. fallout 3

stepping onto the wastes for the first time. thats my top moment of 2008 gaming.

3. Brawl - so much Nintendo awesomeness on one disc

2. MGS4 - so much quality Snakkkkkkkkkkkkke on one Blu-Ray

1. Rock Band 1&2 - so many astounding tracks on two discs and a hard-drive.

3. Okami on Wii - Never experienced it on PS2 and it had me hooked from start to finish.

2. Finally picking up a 360 - A slight disappointment in the direction Nintendo has taken meant I felt I needed something more substantial for my gaming needs. Just need to finance the back catalogue somehow now.

1. Fallout 3 - Related to number 2 and the reason I took the plunge. Hasn't disappointed me in the slightest and although I am still early in the game , I really can't wait to find more time for this.

1. The Wiimote - Zack and Wicki, pro Evo, Mario Kart, Ghost Squad, HotD 2+3, Boom Blox, Tiger Woods 09. Wouldn't be so awesome and cheap with it!!

2. Mario Kart online!! I've had so much fun with this, especially now my girlfriend has got it too!!

3. Downloadable games - pixel junk, Wipeout HD, Braid, Lost Winds, World of goo, Bomberman, Tetris!! LOVED IT!!!

I completely forgot about those. There have been some awesome downloadable game.

Grabbing all the trophies in SSHD was a highlight for me. First game (and probably last) where I have gotten all the achievements/trophies. :heh:

Ok...

The ending to Braid
truly jaw dropping. Sublime in every way. It's everything narrative in gaming should be, and puts every other attempt at story telling in gaming to shame.

Realising the potential in Farcry 2
I absolutely love this game. It's the most free I've ever felt to play a game as I choose, creating a unique experience that nobody else can quite relate to not through arbitrary narrative choices (though they do exist) but through emergent gameplay, real player choice and action and the little stories that come out of every hour of play that I've traded with friends like we're swapping scar stories. Amazing. Game of The Year. Shame nobody noticed.

Rez HD

my first time.

1. Super Smash Bros. Brawl - So good that I bought it twice (you should be bloody greatful Nintendo seeing as you're the reason I had to buy it a second time).

2. Okami on the Wii - Got rid of my PS2 before the good games started to show so missed out on this. So glad I picked it up because it was an absolutely fantastic game.

3. Will have to go with Mirrors Edge. I thought it was fantastic, looked great and was just a breath of fresh air from all of the murky brown coloured first person titles getting released,

Of worthy mention: WiiWare kicking the arse of many Wii retail titles, Rez HD, Zack and Wiki, No More Heroes, Mario Kart Wii, Rock Band 1 and 2 and The World Ends With You (Which I will be picking up after xmas to play properly).

For me, hmm....

1. GTA4 - astounding presentation, great experience throughout, not reliant on an increasing amount of gimmicks like say San Andreas but instread focused on as good a storyline and level of immersion as possible.

2. Mario Kart Wii online - had a lot of fun playing this with a bunch of guys I know. Really fun track selection, was great to have full access to all the tracks as opposed to the limitations with DS.

3. Playing Brawl for first time. Played it on the NA release date as I was in Canada at the time it came out. Was a very memorable trip for me as a whole for lots of reasons and playing Smash Brothers in those circumstances enhanced the experience a lot. Got to play a bunch of the SS in co-op which was a laugh and a lot of fun.

Not really played any of the next gen console games much personally this year though. I have a 360 but I don't really buy any games on it.

Braaaaaawl
All of it, even though I played the jap and usa version before, every single moment of it was just pure awesome.

Chrono Trigger DS
Fuck yeah. Don't care if it's a port. Just... fuck yeah.

Mirror's Edge
Now, I haven't finished it yet, but so far so awesome. Really fun, really original, it's precision first person platform done right (at least so far). The first 360/PS3 game that had me really interested and seemed conceptually ambitious (not talking about XBLA/PSN).

Honestly it's kinda hard to say, I was still playing lots of 2007 games in 08 like the best of all, Mario Galaxy, and lots of great games came out. But those are noteworthy.

In no particular order:

- Brawl is more fangasm on a disc than any other game in the world ever.

- The World Ends With You challenges Tales of Symphonia to fisticuffs to determine who is the Greatest Game Ever

- Sin & Punishment 2 announced

I think I actually have too many to mention and condense in to 3. I'll try, though.

Geometry Wars 2 Leaderboards Wars
I'll get you next time, Domstercool / Dan Daaaaaare..........!

FIFA 2009's surprisingly good, lengthy gameplay
If it weren't for FIFA 09 I wouldn't be getting along with my flatmates as well as I am now.

Rhythm Game Excellence
So much DLC for Rock Band and GH3. On top of that realising I'm actually bloody good at Guitar Hero and being able to wow my flatmates and neighbours with my skills :heh:

1. Braid's ending

Right. The ending of this game was absolutely sublime, i couldn't believe what I had witnessed. Never have i EVER felt so attached to the story of a game, but i think what made the ending just THAT good was the fact it makes you realise mistakes you've made...I felt like young Tim (that was his name right) for a brief moment. Didn't help that the music was so beautiful it made me cry at the end. Wow.

2. Bioshock
The first game I completed once I got my 360 and it was sublime; loved it from beginning to end. Once I completed it, I started again on my HD set and it was even more brilliant. What I loved the most was the atmosphere that was created by the music and enemies, but most of all the audio diaries. brilliant addition to the game. Oh and Atlus. What a legend. <3

3. Getting the RROD
Yeah I got them. Well for about 20minutes. I popped the 360 into my fridge to cool it down and 20 minutes later I was playing Bionic Commando again! wahey!

Banjo-Kazooie on XBLA
I couldn't remember the last time I played this mint game. It was years and years ago, before I let the N64 get all dusty and stuff.
It took me back.

FIFA 09
The first FIFA game I bought since FIFA '99 is just as good as '99. Be A Pro mode is stunning. Plus seeing Aston Villa in fully-licensed glory is brilliant. Finally felt like I was playing as Villa.

Rock Band & Guitar Hero: World Tour
Rock Band is a brilliant game, and it doesn't get stale with the amount of quality DLC it keeps getting. World Tour is also very good, too.

Rhythm Game Excellence
So much DLC for Rock Band and GH3. On top of that realising I'm actually bloody good at Guitar Hero and being able to wow my flatmates and neighbours with my skills :heh:

You don't wow me, though. That time we played GH3 over Live; you sucked! :heh:

1. Burnout Paradise
8 people working together online, while also trying to be the first to complete the challenge. Best online game I've ever played.

2. Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts
Completing challenges in odd ways is great. Creating crazy vehicles is also a lot of fun.

3. XBLA
I've played lots of XBLA games this year. Most were awesome experiences. Although I really should get round to playing them all again.

SS2THDRemix- I consider myself a mediocre street fighter, and you PSN guys that have seen my record can attest, so i was thrilled when i barely won an 8-man tournament with a last-second desperation Ochio Throw

Fallout 3- The Chinese Infiltration sequence in Vault 112 somehow freaked me out more than any survival horror game ever could

GTAIV- the scope and detail of Liberty City, making even the most mundane mission a treat to play through

1: Fable II

First RPG style game i've played, and it is brilliant. Still playing it now as well, quests are taking up most of the gameplay so far.

2: Banjo Kazooie: XBLA

It was great to be able to play as the bear and bird duo after a long wait this time in HD and in 16:9 aspect.

3: Mario Kart Wii

Finally, a proper Mario Kart title (minus the DS version) where online play was capable on the big screen.

The fish

Most of the games I bought this year were oldies on the cheap. As such, my choices are:

3. Halo 3
I have many fond memories of this during in multiplayer with mates during free periods at school. We'll still quote things we've said whilst playing it, and still find them really funny/relevant.

2. Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare
Stupid racist homophobic Americans also tend to be shite at CoD4, making raining molten lead of death down upon them both highly satisfying and reasonably easy. A couple individuals who play like I do on the opposing team kept things satisfyingly challenging.

1. Mass Effect
I picked this up earlier in the year for a tenner having heard it was 'my kind if RPG'. That's a phrase I've heard before, and often been disappointed with. However, my scepticism was proven wrong with this title, as I was sucked straight into a Space Opera with a well thought out story, a plausible future setting and combat (my normal bugbear with RPG's) that wasn't only tolerable, but actually enjoyable. Hell, this game is one of the few where I've actually become scared. Early on, I jumped into a sidequest far too deep for the puny weapons I had at the time, and found myself with both team mates dead in an isolated maze of corridors, and the knowledge that somewhere between myself and my ship where roughly two dozen aliens with an unflinching desire to see me dead. One you finally get out, very little in a game will be thrilling again.

In no particular order... And it's too hard to limit it to 3, sorry :p

Mirror's Edge
The Atrium. Holy shiiiiit that was amazing.

MGS4
As a MGS fan, this game was pure fan-service. Act 2 was my favourite I think.

Dead Space
Gorgeous and scary as fuck. It's what you get if RE4 and Metroid Prime, two of my all-time favourites, had a baby. Too many incredible moments too pick just one favourite.

No More Heroes
Awesome characters, great music, good story, and an actual message too. The gameplay was a little rough at times, but doesn't hurt the overall experience at all. Loved the last few fights.

Cube

Gah! How could I forget Dead Space? The food storage unit was probably my favourite bit. It looked absolutely stunning (on my PC which could only handle it in [Insert widescreen resolution here]x480). I want it on the 360 to fully experience it.

God quite a few really.

1. Getting my girlfriend an Xbox 360 for christmas, cos she's so excited for it :-)

2. Little Big Planet and the level editor. As soon as you start on that level you just can't stop!

3. The hardest one really, cos there is quite a few, but Fable II has to go in here. Loved the entire game. Played it for around 6 hours the day I got it, which is the first time I've done that with a game in ages.

Special mention has to go to Banjo Nuts and Bolts and vehicle creator, World of Goo (not played enough yet, but loving it so far), Boom Blox (Can't wait to get this out over christmas), and Price of Persia (again, only just started but really enjoying it so far). Left 4 Dead would no doubt make this list as I absolutely loved the demo, and I'm getting it christmas eve :-)

An excellent year of games in my opinion. I just wish i had chance to play those games I still haven't got round to finishing. Still need to play Zelda PH, Okami, GTA4, Half Life 2, and god knows how many others. it's never ending.

3. HD Gaming.
I bought the PS3 this year, and switching it on for the first time. To be treated to the XMB and then playing Uncharted Drake's Fortune in all its High Def goodness, truly blew me away.

2. Online Multiplayer
Nothing beats playing with your mates on the sofa, but I have been doing that since the eighties. The realisation that I could play with friends, who were on a different sofa, quite possibly thousands of miles away, will never cease to amaze me.

1. Family Games
There is nothing quite like playing Mario Kart with my five year old Daughter, I get so much pleasure from Wii gaming with her. I used to let her win on Brawl, but now I honestly struggle to come out on top. She can even play the Drums and Guitar on Rock Band now.

kyletherobot

3. Mirror's Edge

By no means perfect, but I did really enjoy this game. Frustrated the hell out of me at times but I think we could be seeing the start of something special if the niggles are ironed out. I really hope that enough people bought this for another to be made.

2. Rock Band

Only bought this recently, and I was a little bit sceptical about spending £100+ on a rhythm game as I had been burnt by the boring single player of Guitar Hero before. But the singing, drumming and obviously, guitar(ing?) add so much more life to the single player aspect of the game, but as anyone who has played it knows that the game really comes to life when playing multiplayer. I can't remember the last time I had so much fun playing a video game.

1. Selling my Wii

After playing and completing Mario Galaxy, Zelda: TP and Metroid Prime 3, I felt it was time to part company with the little white console. The prospect of playing Wii Music and Baby Party 42 really didn't appeal. I enjoyed my time with my Wii in a bitter-sweet way but the future release list had nothing, I really mean nothing that I wanted to play.

(Also, FIFA needs a mention, I doubt there will be a game that I've played more over the past year, or that I will play more over the year to come.)

(More honourable mentions have to go to: GTAIV, Bioshock, GOW2 and Tomb Raider Underworld.)

Baby Party 42? Yey! I love a good inane comment!

Did Zack and Wicki, De Blob, Wario Land, Mario Kart, World of Goo, Lost Winds, Animal Crossing, Boom Blox, Pro Evo, Tiger Woods, Shaun White fit into the Baby Party category? How about the ultimate versions (if you've need played them) of Res Evil 4 and Okami? Bargain awesome lightgun games in Ghost Squad, HotD, Links and Umbrella Chronicles!!

You didn't want to play ANY of them?

That is the most unconvincing list of games I've ever seen...oh dear lol. I mean, some of those are good but have better counterparts on other consoles (I mean, World of Goo looks great and so does Lost Winds, but Braid, Geometry Wars 2 and Bionic Commando...yum).

Yeah Daz that games list isn't very convinving.
Wario Land is capable on a GBA and Umbrella Chronicles is hardly amazing. I'll give you Resi 4 but that's a port (an awesome one at that). The other titles are neither here nor there for me, ones I wouldn't get if I still owned a Wii.

If none of those games appeal to you, you DO have limited appeal in gaming. And the fact you just mention waggle shows how much of a fanboy you actually are. There's nothing wrong with it, don't worry about it, but don't deny it. I'll admit my musical taste is limited, I don't like music and LESS than someone else, but in terms of why types of music I like it's not very broad!

I know people who hate foreign films, or only like horrors, hate dramas and animation and so on. This is a limited viewpoint, a great film is a great film no matter what genra or style it's in.

Same with games. There's clearly a WIDE variety of games that you don't like, thus, a very limited appeal in games!

How is selling a console the number one top moment? It's not is it? It was pure flame bait! I listed a few games that surely he would like at least one of, he didn't, only then did I say his gaming was limited and stated quite strongly that this wasn't a bad thing at all.

Of course it can be considered a top moment to him. If he didnt like the console and then got cash for it then yeah its a win. Lets get back on topic otherwise some form of mass deleting of messages will be done to ensure that it does.

Whats the problem?! I don't like the Wii, and I sold it. I played the games on the console that I wanted to. Because I don't want to play any of a limited list of games (sports, platformers and a couple of light-gun type games) that you mention, I suddenly have limited taste in gaming. And I get accused of flame baiting posting this in a non-Nintendo part of the forum. I despair!

1. Braid ending: My brain all over the ceiling and the wall

3. Fable 2 The dog dying

In no particular order, with extras. It's too hard to limit it to three choices, lol...

Finally getting a PS3 with GTA IV

Okay, so I'm not a huge GTA fan, but I loved being able to finally play games online with my best mate (as he only has a PS3.) I still remember our first drive-by in GTA multiplayer. It was hilarious.

Metal Gear Solid 4

The story was incredible! It had me hooked right up till the very end!

Discovering LitteBigPlanet

I do suck at it, but the originality and community made levels really sold this to me. I've still yet to actually make a level, but I have quite a few ideas down already. ^^

Getting a HDTV

Seriously, I can't believe how much better games look in HD. I really was missing out here!

That's all I ca think of for now. I'll add more in a later post, if I can think of any.

1. Banjo Kazooie (XBLA) - enough said about that one.
2. Mario Kart Wii - easily the best multiplayer game that even casual players can join in on. Fantastic.
3. LittleBigPlanet (PS3) or Lost Odyssey and Eternal Sonata (360). Platformer and RPG fun on a cake.

To be honest most replies were the usually ridiculous and also fanboyish replies of "those games suck, the ones on console Y are much better, what a ridiculous list". He's the only one who can't let go :P
And thanks God we have mods that like stiring up even more trouble and the only users who are reprimanded or warned are the ones who like Wii. Funny.

Funny...I don't think I would have ever have seen something like this 5 years ago :indeed:

1. Not selling my Wii

2. Securing a backup 360, i just know it's going to RROD on Resi 5 release day

3. Not needing a PS3.

No seriously

1. Fallout 3 Awesome game, huge & to get even bigger in 09 with DLC.

2. Mariokart WII loved local & online multiplayer & regular competitions online.

3. Pro Evo Wii it's all about the controls.

2009 looks good to with Resi 5, Madworld, Fallout 3 DLC Alan Wake (hopefully), Monster Hunter 3, The conduit & Pikmin 3 just for starters.

Unlucky mate if you think that is a gaming moment of the year you have missed out on some of the best games this year that you won't be playing elsewhere anytime soon. :heh:

Back on topic;

1. Fallout 3 - specifically witnessing the greatest videogaming birth ever and then stepping out from the Vault for the first time.

2. MGS 4 - A beautiful game in so many ways from start to finish. A fitting end for Solid Snake.

3. Burnout Paradise - Criterion showing everyone else how it is done with free DLC galore and making trading in this game just not an option. First paid for DLC looks set to continue building on this fantastic game next year.

Stop the arguing, or I de-cloth.

I think we're all agreed we'd rather not see that? Okay.

--------

My how the anti-Sony, Nintendo fanboy has fallen! My top three are all Sony! :blank: :heh: :( :heh:  :shakehead :yay:   :shakehead : peace:

3. Super Stardust HD - Sick fun. Crazy awesome on leaderboards, and I'm not amazing at many games, and I'm pretty good at this so yay! Its just oodles and oodles of fun.

2. Uncharted Drakes Fortune - Gorgeous game. Stunning environments...no no...FUCKING stunning environments. Amazing gameplay, cool combat, and the awesome acrobats and jumping around/climbing and cool puzzles...and weird twists that hit me for six! I adore this game. Its like what the Tomb Raider team were wanting to acheive, but with good gameplay.

1. Disgaea PSP - zaaaammmmgggggzzzz. This is just amazing. How many games are there where you can sandwich the chapters of the story between 20 hours or however much you want of FUN levelling up (do they call that grinding?) and its just amazing....you find a cool weapon...you want to level it up. Make a new character, taylor that character to your sick needs...make a gun wielding X or an Axe slamming Y. I can't say how much fun Ive had with this! And still havn't completed it! :blank: I think I might play it today actually. :)

What the hell did I do?

I believe it was me. You know, if I wasn't taking the piss.

Pointless argument anyway. Some people like the wii, some don't. omg or something.
Personally, I've not seen anything on the wii that interests me in the slightest but I don't give a rats if you're really in to it . What annoys me is the assumption that having a 360 or ps3 is somehow indicative of 'limited' taste. That's bollocks: I just want my games to be cutting edge, technically. There are things possible on both machines the wii can never aspire to and for me, those things are the future of gaming- not waggle controls.

Ok... lastpostevarregardingthis!

I think theres just a bit too much "passion". I don't like the Wii much based on whats on offer, you and many others do - thats fine. The problem lies where people don't accept ones opinion and make it seem like one (lol 'one') has "issues". The funniest thing is someone just HAS to copy and paste ANOTHER list of Wii games as if to try to 'persuade' anothers opinion lol... The LOL thing is, the list is never astounding or groundbreaking! Just a generic list of games... LMAO! ^^

I never said this. Show me where i said this. I listed games that someone said they had no interest in, the games were many and from a multitude of genres; I was just saying if someone wasn't interested in ANY of these games they have limited tastes. And again I will say I never once said this was a bad thing.

This board has a great habit of picking the bits that suit them and then ignoring the rest of your post!!

as if to try to 'persuade' anothers opinion lol...

I wasn't trying to "persuade" anyone. I was just saying "none of these games appeal to you?"!!

Hehe King V is right

The Wii is still the future of gaming I think in terms of how we should play - The controls are better and are only limited (for the moment) on the number of buttons.
Thing is, it really should have tried better with the graphics. Yes graphics aren't THE most important thing, they are well up there and when I owned the Wii, I was looking at the competition in agony. Nintendo could have put in a bit more effort.

The thing is the developers have changed tac on the Wii - some people like the change that has happened, some don't and some are indifferent.

I didn't like the change and I believe there aren't enough games that I like so I sold it. You cannot deny however that there are brilliant games for each console.

I concur, well said, ReZ.

Top three moments?

3) Wiiware
Kinda counterbalanced by this whole cleaning the fridge malarky, but Wiiware has been a great option. Toki Tori is where its at.

2) Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer
I was cautious about getting this one, I read up on it and opinions on it range from being ice cold to being red hot. I took the leap of faith and found a fantastic little game. :)

1) Pro Evo 2008 on Wii
The controls make this game what it is, and what adds to the package is the online, which while laggy, it has generally been great to compete over Wifi. There are kinks that need ironing out, meaning the 2009 version will probably be even more silky smooth when they are done tweaking with it.

(An honourable mention has to go to WiiFit. Seeing friends and family mess about with it has been fun to behold in the same way it is with Wii Sports. : peace:)

Twas humour my dear but it's true, i haven't needed a ps3 yet, too many games on Wii & 360 to keep me occupied, may get one down the line when they are cheaper.

There's been quite a few this year so I'll try to keep it within limits.

1. Console buying.

This year I've had the chance and managed to bag both a wii and xbox after waiting pretty much since their release dates to get them..it paid off! I love them both. I also managed to get a ds in january this year and that's been awesome too!

2. Zelda

I'd never touched zelda before 2008, bought both the wii and ds versions, although I really should buy other versions. Definately an eye opener in gaming and made me realised what the fuss was all about!

3. Fable 2

I've been wanting this to happen since I found fable..which if my memory serves right was about 2004/2005? To finally have it to myself with my own xbox...well it's every girl gamers dream ^_^ love love love.

1. Smash bros Brawl
All moments. Freeloader moments were probably the most nerve racking, hoping that it doesn't F-up. Flowing across the stages with Sheik was so awesome it was inspiring.

2. Metal gear Solid 4
Now I haven't even played this game yet, but even to this day I'm watching some of it's video scenes on Youtube. ALL Raiden moments were awesome, and once again the (cyborg) Ninja stuff inspires me.

3. Command & Conquer3: Tiberium Wars
Released in 2007, I still played it well into 08 till about last week when i felt I had to drag myself away from the addictiveness of this game and throw it out. Playing as NOD, sending in a barrage of Vertigo stealth bombers on a flock of Juggernauts or creating Avatars and acquiring the Flame Tank secondary weapon, while giving them stealth ability and sneaking them in a base WHILE activating the radar jam then cause havoc is nothing short pure PWNage - toooo addictive online.

The Wii is still the future of gaming I think in terms of how we should play - The controls are better and are only limited (for the moment) on the number of buttons.

Oddly, the controls are one of the main things I don't like about the Wii. Too many games will generally be reduced to waggling randomly, especially the ever-unresponsive nunchuck. Shooters are especially bad, as the moment you point off screen at something that is even just reflecting a reflection of sunlight, or other IR source, and you spin round in circles. The IR, even when on screen, is a little too sensitive - claims of realism fail when a slight wobble that wouldn't have an effect on something of the mass of a real weapon sends your aim roughly two clicks wide of the target. Nintendo haven't done enough in my eyes for the console.

Now I think about it, they've done a reversal on their performance with the 'Cube. With the previous generation, they didn't market the console well enough, or gain enough third party support, but the hardware was flawless and the first party games were exceptional, with several gems from other studios. This time around, they've created a media frenzy and got all the big players on-side. However, the console still lacks a DVD player, the online still sucks (although, in fairness, exists), the first party games are few and far between (and normally, to me, aren't as good as similar offerings on the 360) and the third party offerings, whilst many, range from flawed potential to a little bit better that rubbish.

It's been a bad year for Nintendo in my books, and 2009 doesn't look like it's going to help them at all.

Yeah but you can't say all that here Fish so you have to make a comment like my one so that everyone stays happy and to make you seem philosophical :)
In all seriousness though, I agree with most of what you said - there needs to be more Wii games and I think no matter what shit was put on the Wii, the boards would still be relatively happy.

I think bitterness for the Wii stems from the fact that a New Gen console is getting a lot of Old Gen stuff. Twilight Princess, Okami, RE4... Ultimate editions of the game but still last gen games nonetheless. If it wasn't for the Wii remote, what else would really justify a Wii purchase? Even so, its a shame most people seek out their old Gamecube pads to enjoy Wii games.

All I really want to see on Wii is software being taken to that next level - and I don't just mean graphically. Compared to the deeper advancements companies are making to games like: RE5, Final Fantasy 13 and MGS4... The advancements in games such as TP, Super Paper Mario, Mario Kart, Brawl, Metroid and even Galaxy seem minor in comparison. Some may just not understand what I mean by "deeper advancements" but to each his/her own... But I'm guessing a lot of 360/PS3 owners know exactly what I mean. I guess I'm more on the side of advancing software rather than innovative hardware, you know, a game where you KNOW the developers really went to the drawing board with this one.

But to be a bit 'saucy', if I am entirely honest, selling my Wii(s) in 2007 were actually great moments. Remembering when CEX were taking them in for £200+ and that didn't even include Wii Sports, that was the greatest bit of profit I have ever made and I always left the shop happy. :)

1. Beating a random guy in HMV at a game of Soul Calibur 4.

It was awesome. I destroyed him at 3 rounds. In front of a few people waiting to play. I hope he was sufficiently humiliated.

2. Finishing DMC 4.
I know in terms of gameplay, it was mediocre, and in terms of storyline, it was awful. And I definetly know that in terms of dialogue, it was absolutley poor. But being the fangirl I am - I /loved/ Nero. So sexy >.<

having played world at war today i could make a list of 2008 greatest gaming moments based entierly on the opening few levels of that.

and i will

3. guilt. after a battle i was survaying that damage, saw a group of dead nazis, all horribly disfgured by the grenade id hit them with, seeing there mangled bodies made me feel like a bastard, and realise once again just how awful war really is.

2. shooting a flamethrowers fule tank. that was increadable, and took out a small group of em

1. bayonetting a japanise guy. he ran at me, trying to stab me, i got there first. un belivable to see a man stopped, a look of shock on his face, then drop to his knees dying, only to have me bayonette him again. anouther god war is awful moment, mostly due to stuperb animation.

3. Playing Oblivion
Begrudge the game a little bit now because of how long it is taking me to complete but when I was playing through this initially I just couldn't stop playing it. So many different quests to get on with. Shame that they only use about 5 voices in the entire game.

2. Bioshock
Just in here becuase I thought it had a lot of character. Nice to play and extremely atmospheric at times, though not without it's flaws. Difficulty curve springs to mind.

1. Getting Xbox live
Was never too fussed for online gaming until I really tried it. Very easy to use and adds a lot more value to existing games. Makes me so glad I sold my Wii to get a 360 :) Wii fanboy incoming alert

Honourable mentions

Fallout 3 - One of my favourite games this year, just a QUALITY game. VATS still hasn't got old and there's always new things to do and kill.

LittleBigPlanet - brilliant user-created content and I especially like the MGS add-on stuff.

Uncharted: Drakes Fortune - some really funny moments and beautiful environments. 'What's wrong? Never seen a U-Boat in the middle of a jungle before??'

One thing I loved about MGS4 is I swear that the graphics actually get better as you progress.

The bit when you finally get through the microwave tunnel at the end and the ending fight just looked amazing.
