so....Gears, only not as good.
hum.
Looks pretty cool.
It's a film tie-in so I'm not holding my breath. I hope it is good though.

I don't think they can make games that boring.

The cover system is very Gears like. Hopefully it won't feel as heavy to play as Gears though. Terminator has the potential to be a great game. It's just never been executed well enough to be that great game. Not sure whether this will get it either. We shall wait and see.

I've heard the arcade game mentioned fondly.
I dunno though- has anyone ever really tried?

Not really. They sort of cobbled something together and hoped that the Terminator name will move it for them with minimal effort. Hasn't really worked so far. It's like most crappy games. If the developers try hard, you'll get something.

I am looking forward to this...The Terminator franchise is one of my favourite out there, Terminator 3 was an unfortunate mis step...but Sarah Connor Chronicles has shown the premise and idea can still be a winner.
There have been very few good Terminator games....Terminator 2; The Arcade Game and T2 on the amiga are are just 2 that spring to mind...

there's a T3 cash in but I think those are the only terminator games.

Nah there are tons more;
The Terminator (on NES and SNES, only played the SNES one)
Robocop VS Terminator (average side scrolling shooter)
Terminator; Dawn of Fate
Terminator; Redemption
Terminator Future Shock/Skynet (made by Bethesda)
Something a specialist subject I will admit...as am a bit of a Terminator geek!

You can't be that great of a specialist then. :heh:
You've missed out T2: Terminator 2 Judgement Day, on the SNES. (think it was on Gameboy, too.)
And the first Terminator game also appeared on the Master System and Megadrive, too. :)
The Master System game was solid. Never got past the first level.

I remember buying the master system terminator by accident once. I bought a mega drive game on a market in Felixstowe, opened the case 10 mins later to find a master system game had been stuffed in there instead.
Random story of the day.
This new game looks pants.

The Master System was absolutely rock hard. Took me a year or two to reach the last level...only to die as I had NO DAMN IDEA how to get the terminator to crawl into that thing so I could crush it. SO DAMN annoying, so of course I never got the satisfaction of completing :(

It's the new King Kong. (Although I really enjoyed that game at the time.)
I'll rent this with hope that it leaves a sour taste in my mouth to off put the cancellation of TSCC.
I hate Fox.

Sigh, why oh why do movie tie-ins fail 8/10 times.

I think they are trying to get sales from making it an easy platinum. And they were right in the review, they should make terminators scary, not just a random robot that can take a bit of lead.

There has been a lot of coverage on movie tie ins, largely that came as a result of Wanted. That we should look at licensed games as the B movies/straight to DVD's of the industry, they are created on much shorter development cycles and perhaps not with an A team lineup etc...
If they were thought of as such and perhaps sold at cheaper RRP prices, say £30 perhaps even less then maybe they would fair better, but then companies pay a lot for these licenses so they are unlikely to.

I think it's cheek that they ask £30-£40 for such games, and I don't think we should be obliged to accept the kind of shit they pump out. At least make an effort.

It's disappointing to see it getting a low score but it was to be expected. You know, there is a considerable amount of depth to the Terminator story that would allow for a decent enough game should the right developers take the helm. The GT review brings up some good points such as the fact that the robots need to be scarier. Terminator is by no means a horror genre title yet the idea of the Terminators is that they are supposed to instill fear in the humans and create a tense atmosphere (some of the ending episodes in TSCC second season showed this perfectly such as the submarine clips from the future).
I think they said something about there being a sequel to Salvation in terms of films so I can only hope that they decide to get a better developer who won't skimp on modes and content to create a decent tie in to it. But I also hope that they sit and look at what has made not only the original Terminator films (excluding 3 as it wasn't quite the same sort of atmosphere as the first two) but the Sarah Connor Chronicles so good and translate that atmosphere and tension to the game. It's doubtful it will happen but you never know. It's a shame that there has been no stellar game license carrying the Terminator name because there is room for it (there have been decent titles though)
Salvation is the first part of a trilogy, I think.

Apparently so sigh...I'm gutted shite game and apparently the film isn't too hot either...
Yeah, heard the film sucked. So it's wicked. They cancelled the awesome TSCC and release a rubbish reboot.

Salvation isn't a reboot.
Salvation isn't a reboot.
After the holocaust that was T3, I'll consider it a reboot.

From what I've heard, Salvation isn't a whole lot better.
Still, luckily they can be ignored, thanks to TSCC erasing T3 (and therefore all the Future War films).

For the most part yes T3 was tosh compared to the other 2 but I think one thing it did really well was the ending. I thought it was quite poignant and John's realisation was a great moment. Although its premise that Judgement Day is inevitable did unwrite all that was created in the second film...
I think the biggest problem with Salvation is it misses the point of what made the terminator films great. Yes the odd flashes of war in the other films were awesome but it was the fear the potential of this war created that made the films so great. That suspense that what was being played out now had an effect on that awful future. Salvation kinda plays its hand with this from the start with it being in the midst of the war. The trailers all look shite as well...
Don't even get me started on the scrapped leaked ending to Salvation either...what a canon fucker that would have been...

After the awesome first terminator film the followups became too politically correct / mainstream lots of shooting but no (edit little ) killing. A bit A teamish. Better special effects but no soul.
the same happened to Robocop after the 1st film.

What's political correctness got to do with it? I can see the arguement for mainstream though. Although I do not agree with, the nuclear holocaust overtones and the relatively bleak endings to both T2 (Arnie getting lowered into the pit of molten steel second greatest tear jerker after ET "dieing") and T3 stops them from quite being mainstream. The popular cult rise of the terminator as a figure did lend itself to this more mainstream idea.
I get the sense Salvation is trying to be a war film in the vein of apocalypse now or something but really it is just a dumb action war film with some Terminator lore shoved in.

Surely T2 left open the idea that it was inevitable? The T2s arm is left in the machine the factory, and the original ending (a peaceful future with an old Sarah and no Judgement Day) was cut and replaced with one about the uncertainty of the future and the line "if a machine can learn the value of human life, maybe we can too".
Still, I think T3 ruined everything about the series.

Well I guess so...but they technically did rewrite history with their actions...I know the ending left it ambiguous but there was a sense that they were truly altering events throughout the film, something that T3 lacked as there was never a sense that events would change. I'm not trying to say T3 is a great film I want to make clear, just it does have some merits however slight and think one was the poignant ending.
That guy in T3 was an awful John Connor.

Well got this off lovefilm this morning for 360. Just completed it now. Bad game, i'm not going to miss this at all! Was easy to complete on hard though, only one or two sections had to re-try a few times which made a easy 1000G!
I recommend that no-one buy this. Rent it if you really want a go.
