GoNintendo are reporting from the US conference that Nintendo will launch the WiiSpeak Channel November 16. Allowing owners to speak to 4 groups of people and send audio messages, those who buy a WiiSpeak unit will recieve the channel free via voucher redemption.

If you listened to the podcast, you'd know that I was the person who first made up the Wii Speak channel ages ago. Bow before me :heh:

Hum, 4 Groups of people? What does that mean?

Wouldn't be fun to get a N-Europe party? Like, having 20 guys talking to each other?

*Drools*

I just hope the Wii Speak isn't expensive, something like 20 euros

/stops dreaming

Was hoping (stupidly so) that it would be implemented into games :( Guess not!

I was also thinking that :(

I was thinking that aswell, they could easily get it run in the background

of course u can talk to ppl in games, thats the whole selling point for animal crossing, its just extra for ppl to talk outside of games.

I think they mean running it when already playing in offline/games that don't use Wii Speak.

Sounds good. How does it work with games though. Would you have to load up the channel before playing it or will the game have to have it built in already?

Diageo

ahhh, well i dunno about that then.

There's barely any info on it just now. It would be good if it ran in the background so you can keep it up and play offline games will talking aswell as online with games that don't have VC.

I don't think the Wii is set up to run two channels at once. I really doubt we're going to get voice chat in Brawl and Mario Kart.

Though It'l be cool to speak to you guys! : peace:

I don't think so, I think it can be done easily by running in the background. Launch it through the channel so it's set up and running and have a WiiSpeak menu at a corner to change rooms/people in it. Then everything else can work fine and normal.

If they don't do it right away, then can change it through a firmware update.

Even better, have it as an option in the Home menu.

Yeah, I think I said that in the podcast, would make things so much easier.

Actually, you might be right.

I looked it up and Linux (The Wii's OS is Linux based) has multitasking built into it.

So, it could work. Though, I don't want it in Brawl, its already laggy enough. Mario Kart maybe though.

Four groups of people?
I think Nintendo should drop this entire "protect children from predators"-bullshit and give us a propper community channel that lets us see each others miis, what games we have, chat with each others and challenge each other on multiplayer challenges. If you wanna protect the kids, disable that feature via parental controlls.

For this to be worth the bother it has to be able to run in the background while you play other games, though I doubt it will. The 360 interface for private chats, other than not having a group chat, is pretty awesome. Nintendo should pretty much copy paste it, imo.

It would seem pretty pointless if it couldn't run in the background, you might aswell speak on Skype or MSN or something...

5th December release date confirmed for Europe.

Nintendo has said the Wii Speak Channel will be available in Europe from 5th December - the same day Animal Crossing: Let's Go to the City.

The service will be free, but you'll need an internet connection and the Wii Speak microphone, obviously. And for the moment, the only way to get said microphone is as part of a bundle with Animal Crossing.

The Wii Speak Channel lets four people chat or share pictures and text messages after Friends Codes have been swapped. Because this makes it safe. Is it safe?

Miis will also join in, and move their mouths to replicate words picked up by the microphone, which should be interesting.

Retailers are yet to set a price the Wii Speak Animal Crossing: Let's Go to the City bundle. We'll let you know when they do.

Sorry about the bump, but it didn't really make sense to create a new thread just for this.

I purchased a Wii Speak today, in time for The Conduit. I tried running that test with the Wii speak channel, but the test fails if the Wii is set to do anything but Mono sound. For those who have tried it with Animal Crossing, will it still work properly in game with the Wii set to do surround?

I didn't know this happened, are you sure you have everything else correct, like your distance from the mic and how loud your TV is etc...

Emasher

Yes, it said in the channel's manual that you needed to have everything on mono for the test to work.

My test didn't work either, but I've had some decent conversations with my friend and I'm always loud and clear in my messages.....you can ask Beverage about that

A few got it early on with Animal Crossing.

Yeah I got mines with the animal crossing bundle then later on I heard the conduit was coming out and when it did I got mines off E-Bay for $2.00.

I got wii speak last week and only the conduit interests me for it,friend codes are amazingly stupid and time consuming,i haven't even used Wii Speak yet because of it.

The only saving grace is the news that company's are taking note and that the only code we will all need in the future is the Wii console's code.
Guitar hero 5 is the first one to use this and for godsake people keep moaning about it untill its the norm!

We deserve better.
