The orginal was little more than a tech demo - short and sweet, but not much depth. Wii Sports is the closest thing we're going to get to a Luigi's Mansion Wii.

Luigi's mansion was something that, as far as I understand, was thrown together in three months when some team had nothing better to do.
I don't think a new Luigi's mansion will happen.

Woulda made a pleasent enough launch title, but I can't see it at this stage in the Wii's life. Oh god, unless Nintendo are cheap enough to re-release the GC version with added waggle in an attempt to satisfy core gamers :indeed:

As lovely a title it is, and as much as I crave Luigis campness I can't see it happening neither. When they created it they never hinted at it being a "series", just their (at that time) mantra of "shorter games". Which, now Wii titles (due to last gen tech) take a lot less time to develop (over their rivals) I don't think these kind of titles will be released on the market.
Nintendo SHOULD bring a title similar to LM to wii but the setting/tech demo likeness (demonstrating lighting, transparency) reeks of a one-time title.

Tapedeck makes a good case against it so I'll throw in some ideas in the for category! If they could throw in some original ideas (more upgrades for the poltergust?), more ghosts and a bigger mansion... then why not make another? Some Wiimote pointer controls would be really good too for the hoover + torch. What about some motion controls like in Prime 3 for reeling in the ghosties to add to the struggle of catching them?

And then changed it as it wasn't my intention to put "you".

Never happen. Its simply not natural to use the pointer for a torch. Makes no sense. Take the torch i use when walking the dog, its superb- hold it vertically, and the beam of light slowly ascends. Even better, i'm physically unable to use my arms while using this torch either- i have to turn my whole body to point the beam somewhere.

To be fair, Fatal Frame 4 is alot more similar. The fact that you can even get a luigi costume in it, I think, probably means Luigi's Mansion Wii isn't going to happen.

I've been holding off on buying a 4th remote until I can get a black one. Though I guess with the massive sales and 3rd party skins, they didn't need to see a need to do it yet. Didn't the N64 get a whole bunch of new colours near the end of its life?

Yeah. And a Pikachu edition. But the N64 controllers were available in several colours from the go. The Wii was originally showed of in several colours (of which White was strangely not included).
I guess we'll see a few more colours when Nintendo get the chance. As it is now they have churn out as many Wiis as their machines can produce.
My father has a factory where I sometimes work, and a task as simple as changing colour is a pain. I know so because I once worked when he just was swapping colour on the machine. The first 30 units were in the old colour, then the next hundred was polluted, and then for the next 50 or so the stuff was too polluted to be sold. And we're talking about plastic parts for aircon systems that won't be seen by the user, so there exists a certain tollerance for pollution. People would be pissed if their blue Wii would have even the smallest of impurity in its colour. In other words, Nintendo would have to be able to stop their machines for at least a day.

I more meant the consoles with the N64, but I could be wrong. I wasn't much of a console gamer back then.
If they gradually did one machine a day or something like that, I'm sure they'd be fine as long as its not during the christmas rush or around the release of a major game. But I do see your point.

Personally I have wanted to see a sequel to Luigi's Mansion for ages...I have played the original so many times its a bona fide classic.
I think a ghostbusters style game would work...Luigi's tried to profitise from his mansion adventures but not really succeeded and is down on his luck running a business losing money, but suddenly King Boo is back and causing havoc all over the mushroom kingdom and only Luigi can safe the day! But ahhhh! His poultergust doesn't work anymore on this new superbreed of Boos!!! So for the first level of the game you play using the wiimote and nunchuk with no motion controls until you find the Professor who upgrades you equipment. The game would have you visiting various locations with each one being a proportion of the size of the old mansion...perhaps even the last level could be a faithful reworking of that mansion!
Well thats what I have come up with for now anyways!

Would be great but I really don't think it will happen. I've already given enough info as to why not but a DShorror would be great.

Love you lots!
I loved Luigi's Mansion. Pretty good use of the Gamecube controller, very nice artistic style, and it was mostly fun to play. I'm glad the length of the game was quite short, otherwise it could have felt a bit more repetitive, so wise decision that was.
There was also some great humour in the game. Naming all the Boos something different "GameBoo!" was a nice little touch. Its daft humour, Nintendo style, I loved it.
Would I buy a Wii version? Provided it controlled well (which I think it would do rather awesomely) and provided they kept all the great things from the first game and expanded on them, then it would be a definite purchase from me.

I really wonder what the sales will be like for Wii Music. If they think it'll do well and it bombs, wonder what they'll say about it. Every "Wii..." games has done well, so I think inside they're expecting the same.
But I doubt it'll make expectations, really wanna see their reactions.

I do believe people have jumped the gun with WiiMusic. WiiSports was marketed as a game to bring gamers and non-gamers together, to create an even playing field. I've played tennis and bowling against so many, many people. You can't do that with many 'traditional' games. WiiFit was marketed as something else as well, for people who want to get into shape, whilst having fun at the same time. Again, gamers and non-gamers, since its a non-game.
The same applies to WiiMusic. Its a non-game, right? Who knows. I don't think its meant to be the "next big thing."
I would love to see Luigi's Mansion on the Wii, I reckon it would go well with the controls, shame that it probably won't happen :(

Eveyone hated it back in the gamecube time so what has changed? Nothing. much sure the install base in bigger but I don't see sony trying anything since the "rear view mirror" ridge racer thing.
Yes it would be good but overall it's not worth the hassle for the core gamer and so nintendo will never do it again.

Considering the ammount of time Wii music has been in development, and what the end results seem to be like, it's been a waste of time and money. Like I've said, Nintendo should invest a few bucks of what they've earned the last 18 months and create a few new teams, and make them make games like these to begin with, so that the good teams that allready exist can churn out high quality ones.
I find it highly unlikely that Luigi's mansion will get a sequel. EVER. Maybe a port for the DS 2 with a few bonuses along the lines of Mario 64 DS. The reason is that the game was a tech demo, created within a few months, and because it sold badly. And I really don't know why everyone wants this, since noone wanted the original.

You know, I bet most of the people who've posted in this thread do own the original.
Plus, all the Wii sports/play/fit/music games were developed by one team Nintendo EAD 2. Animal crossing was also developed by them.

I don't think LM would work on a handheld because of the controls. There's no way you could play it on a touchscreen when you need 2 joysticks.
Anyway, didn't Miyamoto say at somepoint he'd be interested in a sequal or something to do with LM a while back?

My initial thought as well. Plus that the DS2 might have an analogue stick, like the Neo Geo Pocket and PSP.

Oi, this thread hasn't been used for a long time, but I just read this interesting article (http://wii.ign.com/articles/934/934078p1.html)over at IGN. They, and some developers, give their penny about a Luigi's Mansion Wii. It's from november 2008, so not exactly new.
I shouldn't have read it. Now I'm all pumped up about a sequel. Again. Curses, this had better be in the works somewhere. :heh:

As IGN pointed out in the podcast this week, it wouldn't work as the suction and blowing motion on the vaccum required the analogue control of the L and R buttons of the Gamecube pad. The Wii has no analogue buttons so it would be very tricky to pull it off well, unless nintendo have something intuitive up their sleeves.

True, I've made the same reflex when I was considering Luigi's Mansion for New Play Control. Still, does it really need analogue input? Hardly used it in the original, and I'd happily sacrifice analogue input for the Pultergustfor Wii-controls.
I haven't heard said podcast, so maybe I'm missing something. Hey, can't blaming me for dreaming, can you? :D

No I can't blame you! I'd love to see this on Wii, it's one of my favourtie GC titles. I'd prefer a sequal but it would be good if more people could expereince it through new play control. I'm happy with the GC version though so I'd personally give it a miss.

Probably not, actually. Tugging with WiiM+ could quite easily replace the analogue input, with perhaps time sensitive blowing for further distance? I think that makes sense.
