I thought that this would be a good way to find new bands that we might like. We all post a list of bands we like and then if somebody sees bands that they like on your post then they could see another band that they don't yet know and can start listening to them.

Well here goes:

Jet
Oasis
U2
Kaiser Chiefs
Starsailor
Razorlight
Zutons
Snow Patrol
Embrace
Killers
Gorillaz
Muse
Kasabian
Stereophonics
The Thrills
The White Stripes

Those are a few.

5. Pachelbel (Classical music counts k')
4. Babyshambles
3. The Libertines
2. Buzzcocks
1. The Clash

Yes, it's all very British punk rock at the moment. I've fallen in love with London calling all over again.

Trying to classify stuff is only going to lead to handbag waving.

Yay! Another post of mine nobody will ever read. Oh well:

DJ Hype, Roni Size and Tali, Future Prophecies, DJ Shadow, DJ Furax, DJ Decay, Le Peuple de l'Herbe, Snow, Pendulum, Central Mechanism, Kombinate, Konsheen, Rammstein, System of a Down, Asian Dub Foundation, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Saint Germain, Soulwax, Prodigy, REM, DJ Tiësto, Lasgo, Tenacious D, Squarepusher, Pantera, The White Stripes, Daft Punk.

That's all I could think of off the top of my head. There's quite a bit of drum'n'bass and techno in there, a dash of metal and a bit of a whole lot of other things.

COCOROSIE - sorry for the caps, but they're the most amazing band i've ever heard, everyone should give their albums 'la maison de mon reve' and 'noah's ark' a few listens. they make a kind of pseudo-folk and electronic music, they draw a lot on their cherokee heritage. one sister has a really creepy, gypsy-child voice and the other has had operatic training. portishead on acid, if you will. i've probably just put you all off ever wanting to listen to their music hehe, they're definitely worth your time if you like challenging music, though. by the way one of them is in my avatar courtesy of athriller :)

also listening to - DFA1979, annie, diane cluck, aretha franklin, MIA, the go! team and the pipettes

hmm mundane lists that noone will read? OK!

Right now, Brand New are on repeat in my head. I gave these guys a 2nd chance a few months back when i discovered that five of my closest friends all loved them AND so did my girlfriend... And boy, am I glad I did. Most people will know the track Sic Transit Gloria but everyone should check out their tracks I Will Play My Game Beneath The Spin Light, The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot (a nice sad song) and finally Ok I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don't, which is an awesome parody of the very music everyone says the band plays. To be honest, I think it's worth listening to most of their Deja Entendu album for the lyrics alone.

The Used vintage stylee, Jimmy Eat World with the albums Clarity and Bleed American pwning up.

Heard a band called LCD SoundSystem last night and saw a couple of videos.. they seem pretty damn cool.

That'll do. GO!

Good good. Nice to see you've started to explore the genre. I assume you're going to see Gorgoroth & 1349 on the 30th then?
My favourite bands currently are as follows:

Beherit (Gritty, droning Black Metal),
Burzum (The finest Black Metal ever created),
Death (Incredible Progressive Thrash/Death Metal),
Devil Doll (Unparalled Orchestral Rock with Speed Metal influences),
Sigh (Their early works are Black Metal with heavy East Asian influences whereas their newer material is more Progressive Thrash),
Master's Hammer (Unique sounding Czech Black Metal),
The Chasm (Death/Thrash Metal with Aztechian influences),
Xasthur (Nihilistic USBM),
Mütiilation (The best of the Les Legiones Noire Black Metal scene),
Moonblood (Darkthrone influenced German Black Metal)
and Sarcofago (Early Brazilian Black/Thrash Metal).

Tendo returns.

I'm afraid this post is a respite from Metal, so you lot might want to skip on down.

Recently I've been listening to a lot of Sigur Rós (http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk/media/) — props to Indigo for the recommendation. I'd say 'Takk...' is their most easily appreciated album, although personally I think 'Von' is great in an eclectic/perverse kind of way.

Speaking of eclectic, I imagine most of you are acquainted with the varied delights of Gorillaz (http://www.gorillaz.com/). So that's all I'll say bout them.

I find Frou Frou (http://www.froufrou.net/)/Imogen Heap (http://www.imogenheap.co.uk) constantly listenable. Ironically, Let Go just doesn't; it's fresh and familar at the same time. Shh is another favourite of mine.

If you're in to Trip-Hop, you should definately give Lamb (www.lamb.tv) a look. They've split up now, but there's still four albums left in their wake, not to mention a maelstrom of remixes. As I've mentioned before, I love Gorecki, a track from their debut album. But you can't really go wrong as far as I'm concerned.

On a similar note, Massive Attack (http://www.massiveattack.co.uk) is a classic. For some reason I'm not really in to much of 'Protection', but I enjoy the other albums, including the OST for the film 'Unleashed'.

This of course brings me to Portishead (http://www.portishead.co.uk/) who are apparently in the process of making their much-belated third album. I'd say they were an acquired taste, or at least they were for me. Repeated listenings are the key, in my opinion.

And now, as if to suggest I was working in alphabetical order, we have Zero 7 (http://www.zero7.co.uk/), crafters of fantastic background music: serene, unobtrusive, yet doesn't crack under the pressure of a concentrated ear. I believe their third album is also in the early stages of development.

I'm not really that much of a music buff, so those are the only bands I care to mention.

my artists/bands...well okay mostly artists would be:

-daft punk
-K system
-Ayumi
-ATB
-A-ha
-Kosmonova
-Oceanlab
-Just about anyone from www.ocremix.org

You're pretty much the most unique music listener who's listed in this thread.

Everyone else has a lot of their bands shared with other people.

Do you not have Agætis Byrjun? It's just that I'd say that it's their most easily appreciated album. That album's got to be in my top 10 somewhere.

Speaking of Sigur Ros, I saw them live on Sunday night at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. Amazing. I was completely blown away.

Anyway, back to metal chat and weirdly-named genres.... ;)

I only picked 'Takk...' as it's the tiniest bit more conventional. 'Ágætis Byrjun' is more... operatic, making use of a lot of extended string sections and ambience, whereas their newest album is more melodious. Marginally.

It's a very close call, and I can't say I particularly prefer one over the other.

Run to the Hills is slightly boring now. But its a good song to listen to when you first get into Maiden.

Maiden songs I'm liking at the moment are Fear of the Dark and The Wicker Man. Fantastic songs, my favourite Maiden song would be The Trooper, nothing is better than the guitars in that song.

Does anyone have any good foreign music they'd recommend? I say Hombres G, Molotov, Manu Chao, Mano Negra, Soda Estereo, Mana, and Enanitos Verdes. You guys really ought to listen to those bands/artists.

You might wanna give the Nip/Tuck soundtrack a listen through, its got a nice spanishy vibe to it in places (with the show being set in Miami and all). Songs in particular:

Lonely - Bebel Gilberto
Elvis - Alpha
Following - Chungking
Pride - Syntax

I think, havnt listened to it for a while and the songs kinda blend. Its not full out foreign, but as I said, has a spanish vibe.

anyone heard of gogol bordello? a friend lent me their album today, and it's frigging amazing! it's like a fusion of gypsy and punk music, and not half as bad as that may make it seem :) the album "gypsy punks : underdog world strike" is produced by steve albini aswell, and i think it could well be a cross-over hit much in the same way as the scissor sisters did last year.
