Standing In The Way Of Control by The Gossip.
I loved the single, it had such energy, and such a voice, but then the rest of the album is so dull and boring (apart from Yr Mangled Heart, which has some sort of life).

How was it that the original PD was so brilliant, yet Zero was absolutely horrendous? :shakehead

SotC was awesome on the other hand.
I didn't like ICO at all! I think it was the girl that put me off. She was too much of an idiot, and I didn't feel compelled to save her in the slightest.
The art style of both games was epic though ;_;
Donkey Kong 64.
Donkey Kong 64 > Super Mario 64 (But Banko-Kazooie/Tooie >> Donkey Kong 64...so in a way it was disappointing).

You don't understand....I was young, lots of spare time, spent practically every minute looking at my copy of NOM (lol) with the huge PD preview over and over and over again. I even pre ordered the damn game and got my older sister to buy it for me whilst I was at school. I was THAT hyped for it.
I admit, I got so hyped for the game that it would be nothing but a let down.

All the Guild Wars expansions. The PvP scene was great until they messed up the balance and mechanics with the new games, letting it slowly die until it got to the stage that it was no longer fun.
Also Halo 3, Black and White 2 and that GC Starfox game come to mind.
Jonnas
19-05-2008, 09:48 PM
Super Mario Sunshine, since I expected it to be less linear, and more varied in terms of ambience. I thought it was fun, until I noticed how linear and repetitive it became.
Twilight Princess, since it was...pretty bland, and it seemed to lack effort (despite the ginormous amount of time in development).
Baten Kaitos, not as good as I thought it could be. Bad voices, bad story and ridiculous names quickly became tiring, and annoying.
Starfox Adventures, because it has ZERO side-quests. Are side-quests too much to ask for in an adventure game?

Twilight Princess...sucked

well mario & luigi partners in time was a let down, good but aint got shit on the origional.
mario part 8. god that was dull.
cant see where the no more heros hate is from, its a very fun, silly game.
i see the TP problem, its a bit slow but compaired to oot, it dosent do alot wrong. imo, people compaire it to a nostalgic veiw off oot. its a better game when compaired, but lacks the impact or the rose tinted vision.
mario galexy was a very slight let down, some of the missions were dog shit, but 99% were atleast good.
apollo justice hasnt got hold of me in the same way PW (specificaly 3) did. so a little let down.
outside of games, the transformers movie. i expected an awsome action packed blast down memory lane via kick arse ally. instead i got a trip to bad film town.
Any mario party game, starfox adventures, buck bumble, dk64, smackdown vs raw 2008 wii (2009 has more match types so hopefully that will be a huge improvment)

specifically realizing that after finishing kororinpa and twilight princess, i had nothing to play on the wii.

Probably the Wii, bought it on release..then 6 months later realised it had gathered ALOT of dust. Sold it.
Buying it at launch was a big mistake, all the big titles got delayed, 3rd party developers were shifting out party game crap, and I'm not a fan of Zelda.
GTAIV - A bit boring and too easy.
Mario Galaxy - Fun but essentially nothing new. Peach can go save herself next time.
Twilight Princess - Soulless.
Warhawk - Just couldn't get into it.

I have two that I cannot decide between.
LEGO Star Wars 2 - DS - I made a vowe when I got my DS to never sell or trade in any DS game, so that I had a formidable onslaught of titles to play when I got bored/reminising. God this game was so fucking buggy, glitchy and horribly controlled that it made me break my vowe. Ugh.
Spectrobes - Had potential to be amazing. And aspects of it were. The whole fossil bit is soooo good and soooo cool, and it has physical cards which is an awesome Idea. About 1 hour and a half in I realised how awful the combat system was and it ruined the game. You do all this really awesome stuff building up to a really crap thing. Also think the graphics would look better cel-shaded. Sequel looks to be keeping the battle system, so that sucks.

SSBM was one of the best games on GC for me. Spent many hours on the multiplayer with my bro and sis. Good times.

Oh yeah, Metroid Prime 2. Why, oh why, did they decide to spell the whole plot as if it was some generic game? And how come every single section of the planet involved doing the same thing? Couldn't we at least explore the area before already knowing there were 3 important keys there?
MP2 is a good game, but damn, it totally pales in comparison with the original.
And how come people bought the 3 Metroid Prime games when they didn't like the first one? I didn't like Mario Kart: DD, and I ain't buying another Mario Kart anytime soon.

What? Why is Wind Waker good or was is Twilight Princess bad?
Wind Waker was a solid, fun title that occasionally showed a little bit of genius. The dungeons were too small, easy and there weren't enough of them, but they were pretty fun and well designed for the most part.
Everything in Twilight Princess is uninspired and dull.
What I loved was people were really bumming the fact that "Mario could walk round entire planets!" Yay. If they weren't as big as my house I could get behind it.
I know. It was fun but it only was only a minor twist on the whole thing.
Biggest let down: you.
Yes, you.
I tell myself that every day.
The question is: Can you walk round your house as if it were a small planet? Can you do this in other games? :heh:
Now seriously, I haven't played Mario Galaxy, but that is a very weak argument. You certainly didn't convince me that what you said is a flaw.
I can't do a lot of things I do in video games, doesn't mean I want to. The whole gravity mechanic isn't a flaw, it's just not that amazing.

I can list a few.
DK 64 is probably the biggest I can think of. From the heady heights of the DKC's to this rot?? How did they do it? Well, they used Banjo Kazooie as the template basically, which ruined it all. For the record, I didn't love B-K before DK 64, but I've come to loathe it since.
Others are Forsaken on the N64, all Metroid games except Fusion... and maybe Prime 3 but my expectations of it were so low it probably could do nothing but be better than I anticipated.
There was something else, but I can't think of it now. I'll leave you with news that Kid Icarus is overrated. :)

Don't know if anyone has said it...but F-Zero GX I frankly found pretty dull. I know it was incredibly fast, and I read several reviews giving it 90%+...And I loved the idea when I was reading about it (and seeing it on Smash Brothers...) but I just didn't get it at all. What was the appeal of it? I tried so hard to get into it, but I found that basically all it included was holding down A and trying desperately to avoid falling off the edge. There seemed to be no excitement in the game until you crossed the line, and only then was it to see if you had managed to boost past people. The whole race was just dullness leading to three seconds of excitement.
And not only that but nobody else that I know can play it and stay on the track. Even friends who play more games than me find the whole thing incredibly hard. I wanted a game that would give me lasting appeal and then when it started to get dull would keep me amused in multiplayer. Sadly it did neither. Once you get past the fact that the game is really fast and very pretty, there just isn't much else going on.

Fair enough.

I'm not talking about stuff they took out (Enemies, rooms, etc.), I'm talking how they didn't seem to have time to properly beta-test the game.
Those great new items, like the Chain Ball and the Spinner, they're used for one dungeon, and barely anything more. It's like it was the last thing they added.
The excess of rupees. Your wallet is small as hell, and there's so few things you can actually spend them on. I can't believe they didn't notice this huge imbalance.
Plus, those last dungeons were horrible. And don't tell me it's because they took out some rooms. If they really took a few rooms out of those dungeons, then they were bad to begin with.
No shit.

I'm really suspicious about TP. They had loads of stuff planned like a fully realised forest, the ability to talk to animals and such. The game we got was a pail imitation of what was shown and promised. They delayed it, took stuff out and I think that is what ruined the structure.
The game feels like potential good bits of a game really awfully put together.
I don't believe it was the testing that went wrong. Nintendo's testers are very good at their job. This is the first major Nintendo title I can remember that has fallen so flat.

What with Zelda:TP and SMG hate?I'm sure almost anyone can appreciate that Zelda:TP did very little for the series. The only way it really detached from teh previous titles was graphically. I know my biggest annoyance with the game was that the world didn't feel real. You were out in some unrealistic field that apparently nobody else used, there were no carts or travellers, nobody moved into Kakariko village or anything, there was only one little town in the whole 'Kingdom'. Frankly it was just too small and there was too little going on.
The gameplay itself was great fun to play, like any Zelda, I just needed it to do a little more.
As for SMG, I have no clue, I thought that game was inspired and brilliant :) it was basically what Zelda:TP was not, in terms of innovation.

But it wasn't really that big. I think the layout was a lot better, with the ranch in the middle.
In TP it is virtually useless. It's function is almost to just be space.
Also, OOT was an N64 game, TP is one of the last games to be released on the GC. I'm not sure there is much more they could have done on OOT.

The only way for them to best the Zelda series is to scrap it and do a do-over... but Nintendo would never do that.
Get rid of the Triforce story, ditch Zelda, ditch Ganon. Give it a stupid twisted story line and don't make it a third person collect items and go onwards-'em up. Make it something down right stupid.
But this is Nintendo. If a cheap buck can be found, they'll do it. Just like they'll bleed Pokémon to death.

I think they'd need to do three things to make it decent: give it an extremely good story (with Triforce etc. optional and if present used originally), and drastically alter the gameplay, yet make it clear that it's still a Zelda game. But most fans would complain, so yeah, it isn't going to happen.

Wow this thread is full of lulz. I don't really get disappointed by games as I think I enjoy most of them for what they are i.e. try to find something good about them, and most of the time I don't really take risks as I know what I like and what I can see past. That said, Drakengard was a bit of a let down as the graphics could be horrendous, the combos downright boring, and it made dynasty warriors look like the most varied game ever.

Lets see for me, it would be Enter the Matrix, Star Fox Adventures, F-Zero GX. I would also add Forza 2 to this list, but it is ok i think. Gets a little repetitive when racing on the same track for the 4th time in a row mind.
The others however let me down in many ways. Graphically, they were good but Star Fox was let down by Rare adding Fox into the game and making it too easy. Enter the Matrix was plain boring after a short time playing it and as for F-Zero, don't get me started on that. I could rant all day about all three games, but alas time is not on my side.

I didn't find it that difficult, I mean I completed the game (apart from the last few cups on expert which frankly were never meant to be won by any normal human - you needed some sort of genetically engineered fingers or something) and did the story mode and everything. It wasn't that I found it too hard, it was that nobody I knew could play it at all, and when I bought it I expected a single and multiplayer game, which was why it was a let-down.
I do enjoy mario kart, purely because when you get all your mates round and they've never played it before they can easily get into it, but with F-Zero they all got sick of falling off the edge within the first 30 seconds of a race.
Yes it was fast, and yes it looked great (as I said first time) but to me there just wasn't much about it that kept me wanting to come back after I had gotten all the ships and unlocked all the cups.

Well, there was that one time, in one of the Master Cups, where I just needed to finish the final race (The second Big Blue one) in a decent place. I was in 7th, in that final narrow passage, and I used my last booster, to avoid being hit by the guy behind me.
The guy also used his booster, and poked me in the back, breaking my car. I cursed.
A few more cars passed me by, when suddenly one of them hit my dead carcass, propelling me with great force, surpassing several other cars, and crossing the line, finishing the race in 9th. My jaw dropped, as I managed to win the championship with such a lucky break.
It's still my favourite finish ever, though.
But yeah, it's mostly skill. :heh:

You got a point there. The single-player is awesome, but the multiplayer was poor, and should've been better.
But the whole "falling off the edges" thing is a bit odd. It happens in every racing game. If you go off the road, you get far behind. When you go off the road in F-Zero, it happens the same as in Mario Kart, except it's faster.
Also, most people I know could control their cars somewhat fine (as long as they didn't use the booster).
But yeah, I can see your point.

Oh no I totally agree with you Jonnas :) Seriously I'm not saying it was a bad game, and I imagine that if all my friends had the game too and could practice and stuff it would be really fun and a great multiplayer game. But sadly very few people actually have the game so nobody I knew could enjoy it.
I'm not saying it's a bad game, or a badly made game, just that for me I was expecting more from it. The hype was a bit too much for me.
